He can see clearly now
Jose Molina had PRK eye surgery in October and is happily experiencing spring training without contact lenses.
“It’s great,” he said. “I was always getting dust in my contacts when I was catching or they were moving around. This is going to help me as a player.”
Molina said he is prepared to catch as many games as the Yankees need. “You know me, whatever they want,” he said.
Given the uncertainty with Jorge Posada, Molina could prove to be an important player this season. At worst, you have to figure he catches at least 40 games.

jose, jose, joseeeee.
I’ve been wanting to get that surgery myself. I just see the people who end up with their eyes all screwed up to which they cant even wear contacts and that freaks me out. Must be nice not worrying about contacts or glasses though.
Obviously, I want Jorge to come back strong, but I’m glad we’ve got Molina. He’s a great catcher. While his bat may be light, you don’t have to have a .300 hitter at EVERY position. I’m looking forward to seeing him play.
No way would I ever get that laser eye surgery. One small slip up, and you could be blind.
While I think you have to like the way Molina handles himself and what he provides defensively, we’d do well do remember how he just murdered the offense last season over nearly 300 plate appearances. Here’s hoping his role is primarily as a late-inning defensive replacement and that he doesn’t see half that many plate appearances this year. And that if it turns out that Posada can’t catch as much as we all hope he can that the Yanks recognize that Molina’s not a legitimate major-league starting catcher and act accordingly.
Jose has a performance enhancing surgery…just what the Yankees need.
The tabloids tomorrow will read “JOSE CAN YOU SEE?”.
Michael, ouch. And you’re probably right.
Jose!
I’m hoping to get that surgery in a couple of years. I hate wearing glasses, and I tend to leave my contacts in way too much. On the bright side, if Molina isn’t getting dirt in his contacts, maybe he will see a tad better at the plate. I know he won’t come close to average level offense, but maybe he will come a little closer to replacement level when he needs to play. And lets not forget, he hit the last Yankee Stadium home run!
