    No pictures Pete?!

Thanks for all of the updates on the blog. I almost feel like I am at spring training.

  2. Mike R February 16th, 2009 at 12:48 pm

Tex owes Swish a few dinners for taking his place as starting 1B.

  3. Betsy February 16th, 2009 at 12:48 pm

I know they must be at the minor league complex, but some pics of Tex, please!

You’re doing a great job, Pete – thanks a lot!

Betsy, I think they’re at Steinbrenner field. Aren’t they reporting for physicals? Or is that tomorrow? When’s the first day of practice?

  5. JonMichel February 16th, 2009 at 12:53 pm

    pat,

Thanks. I guess I’m anxious for baseball to begin.

  10. Betsy February 16th, 2009 at 1:14 pm

M, I thought that position players weren’t allowed to report to the major league complexes until the official arrival date of tomorrow…….?I could be wrong. However, knowing how good the media is at investigating things, I would think they could figure this out…….In any case, more Tex please, lol.

Pete, Does Joba look like he shed a few pounds this offseason?

  12. Drew February 16th, 2009 at 1:24 pm

James Shields is confident, let the war of words begin…the Rays are a bit cocky…hopefully they get humbled once again this season. Funny if you look at their main blog on the st. pete times, the comments area is empty, that says a lot about their fanbase or lack there of…figured there would be more excitement and anticipation after last season for them(they’ll show up in September if there in it I’m sure) but here’s Shield’s declaration….

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Predictions for the Rays to finish beneath the Yankees and Red Sox in the American League East are common these days. They just don’t carry much weight in Tampa Bay’s clubhouse.

“We’re the AL champs, the whole 2009 season until the last day,” James Shields said. “They can pick us third, whatever they want. We proved last year it doesn’t matter what kind of payroll they have, we can win.”

Shields smiled when asked about all the money spent by the Yankees and Red Sox and the arrivals of such names as CC Sabathia, John Smoltz and Mark Teixeira to the rosters of the Rays’ rivals.

“I loved it, loved it,” Shields said. “Because it showed me a lot of the other teams in the American League East decided you really do need some pitching. I think that was kind of a compliment to us. That’s how I took it.”

But in the end, “we’re the team to beat,” Shields added.

Big Tex in the house, can’t wait to see some pics of him and hear what he has to say, he is going to make a huge impact on this team this year.

Here I’ve been anticipating taking part in Pete’s live chat this afternoon and now the wife wants me to take her to a museum. As if blogging about the Yanks isnt culture enough! I bet Derek Jeter doesnt have these problems.

  18. Nor'easter February 16th, 2009 at 1:39 pm

Thanks Pete! Wonder how the chat will work on my iPhone?

  19. JoeyA February 16th, 2009 at 1:40 pm

  20. randy l February 16th, 2009 at 1:44 pm

    drive 4-5

now if you had an iphone you’d be all set . since you have to go to museums i think it’s only fair for you to get an iphone.

plus if you start snapping photos of paintings, they’ll escort you outside :)

  21. randy l February 16th, 2009 at 1:46 pm

“Who’s wearing the thong this year?”

    hopefully not selena roberts.

  22. thanks February 16th, 2009 at 1:46 pm

Thank you, Pete. These posts are awesome !

  23. tampayank February 16th, 2009 at 1:48 pm

anyone else notice the New Yankee Stadium opener is scheduled for a 105pm first pitch? Thought that was odd for a Thursday, you’d figure it would be a 7 or 8pm first pitch on national TV..

  24. Thomas Robust February 16th, 2009 at 1:49 pm

We’ll all get to look back at today as the beginning of the championship teams again (I hope) so Introducing Tex and Swish. So all the new guys are here? What a dynasty. How many rings? (added by Mobile using Mippin)

“now if you had an iphone you’d be all set . since you have to go to museums i think it’s only fair for you to get an iphone.

plus if you start snapping photos of paintings, they’ll escort you outside”

Unfortunately, it’s a museum of modern art. They probably would think the iphone is an extension of the art and they would keep me,and my phone, as part of the exhibit. lol

“Tex owes Swish a few dinners for taking his place as starting 1B.”

  29. gayle February 16th, 2009 at 2:35 pm

    TampaYank-

Home openers are always day games

  30. tampayank February 16th, 2009 at 2:50 pm

    Gayle,

I know most usual Yankee home openers are day games but I thought this one would be a night since they’re opening the new ballpark….like last year w/ the Nationals where they opened their park on Sunday night baseball

No big deal would be made of it. They’d just assume that the Yanks reacquired Giambi.
