A big year for A-Jax. He really needs to show the Yankees that they can trust him to be their CF of the future. I guess worst case they make him a corner OF guy with Damon gone next year.
Burnett considered an offer from the Atlanta Braves before deciding on the Yankees. Part of the appeal, he said, was staying in the AL East.
“I think I only really started paying attention to the game of baseball two years ago,” Burnett said. “I’ve become so much more of a pitcher than I ever was before. I don’t want to get away from this league and this division just when I’m getting to that point. This feels like my calling.”
Burnett then hung his head a bit and laughed.
“I also don’t like hitting,” he said. “I just want to pitch.”
*** Most pitchers are desperate to get away from the AL to the NL – the fact that this guy wants to stay not only in the AL, but in the AL East tells me a whole lot about him. A healthy AJ will absolutely thrive here – I feel certain about that.
I love that he and CC can lean on each other because, for both of them, this experience will be unlike anything they’ve ever had. It’s not just a one time thing – the pressure to do well in NY from fans and media will be a constant presence in their lives. It will be nice that they can go through this together.
I’m hoping the Braves announce they signed Griffey today so we can end up keeping Nady and Swisher. Everyone seems very high on Swisher, and I like his potential, I just can’t completely forget yet what a terrible year he had statistically last season. I know it seemed to have a lot to do with luck, I would just feel more comfortable with both of them around.
the problem is the feds also confiscated the major league urine sample from every player. there was something like 1100-1200 samples.
bonds was not one of the original 104. he passed that test. the feds recently retested with newer testing procedures and bonds now tests positive.
so now there are 105 positive tests. the new york times has outed bonds just like roberts outed arod.
the feds are in the process of retesting every sample. if 200-300 players test positive , there is no way this story goes away.
the fact that bonds test was leaked to the new york times when only the feds knew about it, kind of narrow down where the leak came from.
doesn’t this also give a clue where the arod leak came from?
i think pete suffers from PTARODSD (Posttraumatic arod stress disorder)
common early symptoms are the feeling that ones brain has turned to mush.
after early symptoms boredom may set in.
later symptoms are a the compulsive desire to see real baseball games and hear the sound of wood bats meeting real baseballs.
And, speaking of AJax, Kevin Goldstein released his top 100 prospects at Baseball Prospectus last Friday and AJax is #46. Montero is #38 and the only other Yankee in the top 100.

Pete,
Any sign of Mark Teixeira?
Pete, great article on AJ.
I love this part:

Ugh – I don’t know why my comments ended up in that box…….
Hey Pete,
can you get some pix of A-Jax up today?
He’s my favorite prospect and I’d love to see some shots of what he’s doing.
Thanks.

How are AJ and CC at holding runners on base? With Jorge’s recovering shoulder, that could be key.
A-Jax needs to have a really good year this year.
If he is paying attention to the ML team at all, he should know next year, we literally have one outfielder under contract.
We better be making the right move with this kid. Seems like we are putting a lot of our eggs into one OF prospect.
Wish A-Ja the best. Show us what ya got!

Good to hear AJax is there early. I have high hopes for him.
