Here’s the video chat we just did from Tampa. There were 460 viewers on at one point including people from Scotland, India and Aruba. Thanks to everybody for participating.

UPDATE, 4:03 p.m.: Yes, the questions are screened in the office. But not for content, more so just so I can read them as they come in. Otherwise it would be a mess.

If you have some question, feel free to e-mail me and I’ll do a mailbag on the blog when I get a chance.

Thanks Pete! Really enjoy the chats.

I think the live video chat went well. So well we can pull a player to ask questions of.

I’d love Johnny, Nick, AJ. Guys that seem fun.

Are these locations verified? I suspect not.

I noticed that when Pete clicked off the chat the screen immediately defaulted to an earlier chat in which Pete was wearing a shirt with yellow stripes. The first question was about Arod and steroids; I took a couple pictures and then closed the window.

Nick- Next chat we’ll see someone from Antarctica.

    Nick in SF

The Scotland one is because that’s me.

Why can’t the Yankees let people be who they are?

CC was asked to shave his beard?!

Come on. you want good team chemistry, let guys be themselves.

If a guy wants to have longer hair, let him.

I feel like these rules should go out the window with all those grievances against Joba showing emotion.

IMO, the organization needs to stop treating their players like boardroom business men and more like the baseball players they are. Nobody wants to be told how to carry themselves.

Let the speculations about Cruz/Hudson begin. This should keep the little buggers busy.

MLB To Lend A Hand To Type As
By Tim Dierkes [February 16 at 1:32pm CST]
MONDAY: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports has more on the topic. He says:

Major League Baseball, the players’ union, the Diamondbacks and Cruz’s agents are in discussions to facilitate a sign-and-trade involving Cruz that adheres to the collective-bargaining agreement. Free agents cannot be traded before June 15 without their consent, but the union will permit Cruz and other Type A players to waive that right, according to Rob Manfred, baseball’s executive vice-president of labor relations.

Rosenthal says the D’Backs are not discussing this kind of scenario with Hudson’s agents, and it’s unknown whether Cabrera and the White Sox are talking about it. Rosenthal says there would be a window, perhaps 48 hours, for the team to make a deal. If no deal is made then the player would remain a free agent.

Is there any way to read a transcript of the chat? If not, anyone care to summarize the interesting (non-Alex) points?

As to the facial hair rule, while I understand it for cases like Johnny Damon circa 2004, I think it’s rather silly. Personally, I think AJ looks extremeley cool with his little goatee thing going -it’s more like 5 o clock shadow than a beard. It sucks that he had to shave it….same with CC.

No pics of Tex? Poor guy must be feeling unloved, lol.

I’m glad to hear the new guys will be at the press conference…..solidarity is a good thing.

Jennifer, I had Kay on for a few minutes and heard what you heard. I couldn’t believe it when he ranted about how Alex has to respond to some ridiculously unfunny joke from SNL. What’s he supposed to say? Also, why doesn’t Kay ask Jeter and Posada why they have been so lousy in the post couple of post-seasons. Why are our post-season failures falling on Alex’ shoulders only?

I hope the rest of the day is mostly baseball talk – tomorrow is going to be rough.

“The Scotland one is because that’s me.”

Cool. Are you an American living in Scotland or a Scottish Yankee fan? I’ve had the good fortune to visit Scotland four times. I can elaborate on that if you’re curious, but I don’t want to bore the good folks here with such details.

  11. jennifer February 16th, 2009 at 4:23 pm

I would love to visit Scotland.

  12. Betsy February 16th, 2009 at 4:24 pm

Tex already off to a good start….except he can throw out that Angels bag now, lol

    Teixeira arrives in camp

I was chatting with Brian Bruney downstairs when Mark Teixeira walked in, an Angels bag slung over his left shoulder. Bruney shot up and the two exchanged pleasantries, with Bruney welcoming him to the team and Teixeira saying he was glad to be here.

“This team,” Bruney was saying later, “is going to be the best one, personality-wise, since I’ve been here. These are all good guys we’ve brought in.”

Teixeira certainly seems to fit the part. He shook hands with every single reporter within the county limits and swears that he’s going to try to learn all of our names. The fans should enjoy having him around too – Teixeira said that he is going to have the best year of his career in 2009 and is determined to get off to a fast start.

He’s also ready to get a crash course in the Yankee three-ring circus when Alex Rodriguez takes to the podium tomorrow. Teixeira said he is among those who will be on hand to lend A-Rod support.

“I’ll definitely be there,” Teixeira said. “I’m going to open my arms to Alex.”

Then there must have been two of us from Scotland watching in that case!

Where abouts are you from TartanNYY? All set for another few months of no sleep when the season gets going?

  14. Erik Agard February 16th, 2009 at 6:10 pm

Thanks for the chat Pete! It’s extremely satisfying to know what’s going on down there in Tampa.

  15. Yankeehottie February 16th, 2009 at 9:21 pm

Next time I hope my questions go through Pete. Now I am forced to harass you via email!

  16. TartanNYY February 17th, 2009 at 10:05 am

In response to the questions that were asked:

Nick in SF – Not american, just a long time scottish yankee fan. Hope you enjoyed your visits to Scotland

Jennfier – Scotland is a good place to visit. I have an american friend who is currently studying over here who loves the place

Neildo – I’m already suffering from lack of sleep from watching New York Rangers games. Looking forward to what I hope will be a more comparatively productive year from the Yankees.
