The big moment approaches …
To the best of my knowledge, YES, ESPN, MLB Network and SNY will have the press conference on live.
I think we’re also going to try some sort of internet magic to stream it live on the LoHud.com main page.
In terms of actual baseball, the Yankees were on the field for two hours and 18 minutes today. It was a standard pitchers and catchers workout. Bullpens, defensive drills, batting practice at the end for the catchers.
None of the players have been told to attend the press conference. But I good number of them will be and I’m sure the cameras will get that shot.
I’m not going to be live-blogging the event as I’ll be there and want to pay attention to what is going on. But check back later. I’m also going to try and upload the audio.
So settle back with some cotton candy and enjoy the circus.

First!
Thanks Pete. Most of the time I actually do appreciate you and all you do for us.
I’ll be interested in hearing your take when this is all said and done.
Pete – How has the Wanger been looking in his bullpens, today and otherwise?
Nobody really cares about what steriod he used or if he did it for 3 or 4 yrs. if the media wants to look into the steriod matter more how about trying to find evidence if steriods helped a players performance on the field. U will be surprised at the answer.
Please lets talk about baseball after this week!
Hey Alex! Swing Away.
I wish I could watch, but alas, lunch ends in about one minute.
i’ve got my hip waders on, and im all ready!
MLB TV is having a pre-show to the show.
We’re in a global depression right now, maybe we should move on from a ball player’s past mistakes and focus on current issues that are more important.
Let’s play ball!
Anyone else think the press conference starts with the light’s going dark and Queen’s We Will Rock You building up the excitement (with the media clapping along to the song on their Macbooks) until it segue’s into We Are The Champions with all the Yankees showing up coming out one by one and Arod finally coming out last in spotlight wearing a tattered cape and crown with a strategically placed tear on his cheek?
Or is it just me?
A pre-show to the steroid press conference? Jebus, what do they think it is, the Grammys?
this has gotten more than a little bit OOC….
Can we expect special appearances by John Legend and Rihanna, too? And live red carpet coverage from Guiliana Depandi, only on E! ? I mean, honestly…
“MLB TV is having a pre-show to the show.”
Is E! doing a Red Carpet Show???
As with everyone else, I don’t know the number. But with reports of PEDS being used since the 60′s, and with the Mitchel Report, the ’2003 List’, and others already named… you have to guess the number of players who used PEDs is AT LEAST in the hundreds, and maybe over a thousand.
In life, you don’t have to actually say something for it to be a lie. There are unspoken lies… which are often the worst kind. For instance, if you are married and have pledged fidelity, and you had and affair, and you did NOT confess it to your spouse, this is a serious ‘unspoken’ lie.
So my guess is there are many hundreds of MLB players, past and present, who have committed the unspoken lie. As a small group, Bonds, ARod, Mac and a few others are being questioned ad nauseum about their ‘lie’, while hundreds hide in the wings.
Why should ARod bear his soul on this, totally open up, give dates, drugs and details about this… when so many others haven’t even admitted their lie?
Pete is being quite santimonious here. The more ARod says, the greater the chance of this continuing to snowball, and possible leading to legal problems. He should tell absolutely NO lies… but also, as few truths as possible.
Remember when Bill Clinton was asked about Monica? If could had said ‘It’s personal and has no effect on my job’. This would have been a truth. He didn’t need to give details, or lie to cover up the details. When asked about cocaine use, Bush did about the only smart thing he did in 8 years… he did NOT answer the question. He didn’t lie. He simply didn’t give any information.
Here is what ARod should say… which is what he has already said.
“I did steroids from 2001 thru 2003. I am clean now and tested regularly. I’m very sorry for waht I did. It was stupid, and I have let down a lot of people, including friends, family, co-workers and the fans. It was a huge mistake that I will have to deal with for the rest of my life.
In terms of days, specific drugs, where I was, what I was thinking, what I was wearing at the time, and other specific details… they are irrelevent. I am guilty of doing steroids for 3 years. Nothing I say can change that. Hashing over details, many of which I may not remember accurately, and may inadvertantly compromise others, serves no beneficial purpose.
I did steroids for 3 years. It was a terrible mistake. I have hurt many, including myself. So again, I offer my sincerest apology to everyone that has been hurt by my actions.
Please print that on the front page of every paper so everyone knows it. And then I will not have to speak about this again. After today, for me, this issue is done. This will be the last time I ever talk about my steroid use. I will answer no more questions. I have a bunch of World Series’s to get ready for, and I plan to dedicate all my energy to that.
In the future, if you have questions about baseball, ask away. Other then baseball questions…. please… talk to Jeter instead.”
Alex Rodriguez owes me, you, Pete and everybody else NOTHING. NOTHING.
Until you all start confessing every mistake you have ever made, right here on this blog, STOP expecting blood from ARod.
ARod is paid to play baseball at an excellent level. That is the ONLY thing I am concerned about.
Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged.
