The many expressions of A-Rod
Hopefully this will be the final entry of the day as I am worn out. Thanks to everybody for reading for commenting on the press conference.
The first full-squad workout will be tomorrow, which means we’re closing in on exhibition games and hopefully a return to normalcy. Or at least normalcy as far as the Yankees are concerned.
Check back for more from Tampa tomorrow.

Wow. This is important.
hmmmmmmmmmmm
What a shock, Pete Abe with a gratuitous cheap shot on Alex Rodriguez.
jason, honest to god, how is that a cheap shot? I published a series of AP photos without comment. Give me a break.
Great, last post. Now you can start concentrating on the other 103 guys.
Pete, I’m calling fair ball on this one, I see no harm and you know I’d let you hear it if I did.
I admit it, I laughed.
Maybe I’m just so sick of all this, I’ll look for humor in anything.
Pete, at least own up to the fact that you hate A-Rod even though he’s a big part of the reason so many of you fantastic arbiters of moral justice — I mean, sports journalists even have jobs in this economy.
Actually, some of those faces ARod’s making suggest that he was taking the needle in the butt right during the interview!
http://cache.daylife.com/image.....K/610x.jpg
So Pete-do you know who is that all the way on the right in the black shirt next to the red headed person. Sanchez?
Who knew “Identify that Yankee in street clothes” would be so hard.
carrying over from the last thread, is anyone familiar with the question of whether it is common for a team to hire a radio/tv announcer that bashes one of their own players (kay- arod)?
Come on – be honest – watching Alex’s facial contortions is mildly entertaining! This is not a cheap shot, IMO. It’s actually kind of funny.
He hasn’t really been like that until this though, Jonnycat. I mean he had a few players that he had some history with, that you could tell he really didn’t care much for them – but nothing on the level of this that I can recall offhand.
I always spot Pete’s dig but they are just pictures. Alex is a very expressive person. Every day he’s in public you can do something like this.
Thanks for the pictures Pete. Kind of makes me think of Bobby Knight (who has been pretty supportive of A-Rod) when he made those faces at a press conference. Classic. Game face!
Alex makes some funny faces-I giggled a little.
From previous thread.
“I really wish Jeter would have responded today. All this does is stretch the story out another day. I am so tired of it.”
I agree Jennifer. I think Jeter should have came out and said “look guys. Arod was stupid and young back then. I mean how would you explain the dumb quotes back then about me not being someone to fear on this team?”
“I don’t know what they were,” Giambi testified. “He didn’t really explain them. He just had told me to take them. And it had—he explained it has something to do with the system. … He just said to take it in conjunction with all the stuff.”
Does this make him Naive and Stupid
Let’s give Giambi a pass but not A-rod
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/...../BALCO.TMP
I bet he’s really bad at poker.
He definitely doesn’t have a poker face, thats for sure, lol.
sorry, this has probably been asked and answered already-does anyone have the translation of the spanish question/answer?
thanks!
I read it earlier, Max. It was somewhere in the thread during the press conference. I know thats a lot of comments to go through, but someone on here definitely did translate it.
LOL. What’s wrong with the pics?
At least Pete didn’t draw little pointy ears and an ugly beard on the dude.
The fishface one is pretty funny.
“Did alex steal PeteAbe’s bycicle?”
Speaking of exercising. Hows that tread mill streak Pete? Please tell us you have willed your way into keeping the streak going and didnt revert to Ill double up tomorrow.
Central CT Yankee -
In the same article you linked to, reading further on, Giambi also states that he didn’t really know if it made any difference. Interesting.
Whats the meaning for having these Photos.. is this another un-funny joke about A-Rod.. get of the guys baseBALLS!!
Here you go, Max. The jist of what was said…

February 17th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
The Spanish reporter basically commmented that the Hispanic fans had his back and then asked if there was anything positive that is coming out of this situation. Alex responded by saying that he gets to tell the youth that taking steroids is wrong. That’s the jist of it, I forgot exactly what else he said…
You can always point out the double standard the media, fans and baseball people have, but it will only get you accused to defending A-Rod or something else equally lacking in sense.
“In the same article you linked to, reading further on, Giambi also states that he didn’t really know if it made any difference. Interesting.”

I don’t know. When I got pulled over and told the cops I didn’t know if those beers made any difference they seemed to think that maybe they did…
LOL I actually think those are funny – but candid photos are always hilarious.
Yep, Lara. You’ll be the big A, A for Apologist. Go figure.
Talk about a misused word. I haven’t apologized for anyone in this whole mess as far as I know.
It looked like A-Rod, needed to pass a little gas and he was holding it in for 38 seconds. “Alex, hold it in (primo) too many people in the room”.
Great job Pete – now rest up and listen to Springsteen!!
Wednesday must have been apology day, he apologized to Hicks too. Hicks?! Please!
Thanks for all the coverage today Pete, Tough day for all of us.
Hicks said he made it clear to Rodriguez, “I was very unhappy that he gave the impression that it was all about the Texas Rangers. He said, ‘I didn’t mean that at all.’”
——————————————–
Well I hope Hicks has apologized for employing so many steroid users. Everyone wants an apology but no one wants to give it. Right along with Bud “I’m not taking the blame” Selig.
Pete, this does seem like a cheap shot. You might not have posted a comment but are the expressions even newsworthy? The very fact that you posted this implies a cheap shot.
Pete thanks for all the work today. I would be really great if we could have a no arod and steroids day on the blog. I think we would all be the better for it.
Guys
There was about 100 times you could have complained this week about pete taking shots at arod. And you pick this post to say it? Bad timing – this is one of the few posts that actually didnt do that.
Sa- Who would have thought it would be so difficult naming the Yankees! I thought I was pretty good at id’ing faces. I guess not.
I wonder if Bud Selig has ever heard of “the buck stops here”?
Alexander better start taking kaopectate. He looks a tad strained lol.

Yeah….all 18 million of them. Imagine getting 18 mil a year to be inept.
Keep up the good work Pete. As you well know the arm-chair bloggers here don’t represent the vast majority of your readers.

I love this photo – it gives me an idea what it would’ve looked like if Mo, Pettitte, Jeter and the gang were all in high school together.
I wonder if Bud Selig has ever heard of “the buck stops here”?

Angel
You still think Bud Selig is mostly to blame?
Get a clue. The player’s union has to pass any proposed testing procedures in collective bargaining. The union has been by far the biggest obstacle to real advancement here, not nearly so much ownership or Selig.

this game is fun
SA,
i cant figure out the guy whose standing next to CC, not on the right side of him where joba is standing but on the left, the guy with the hat lol

====================================
LOL! I know and it’s gonna bug me if I can’t figure out exactly who is who. I didn’t think it would be that hard.
Golf clap golf clap
me too, i took pride in the fact that i knew my team inside out….. i guess not. lol
Don’t know GB7. But if its good enough for a president’s accountability, then its good enough for a Commissioner of Baseball.
Wow, Richard Justice just said on Countdown (paraphrase here):
“Keith you and I both there were GMs in baseball who looked down on guys who didn’t try steroids”
Wow.
you gotta- I think that is Bruney.
I have went from really enjoying Mike F to liking him to not minding him to getting annoyed by him to avoiding his show to despising him to I cant believe I ever llked him, What in gods name was i thinking? Mike says he is a yankee fan all the time which at first, made me like him more than i would have otherwise but I think mike just says he is a yankee fan and does absolutely nothing to talk up the team, help them in any way or even appear to root for their success.
hE TAKES every opportunity to make sure everyone who is listening knows who his team is in baseball but then, does everything he can to appear either neutral or against anything the yankees do. He tore this thing and arod apart today and why? Because arod is trying to apologize and get back to being a baseball player rather than the circus the media has made him become.
You would think with all these reporters hating on arod and the yanks, the few who actually express their yankee roots would defend in their public forums rather than criticize or at the very least try to remember neutral (if that is possible.)
Mike F felt it a better idea to be the loudest opponent against arod making sure even people who hate him and his show know that he despises arod.. Well, thats great Mike – nice to see the fans in the media are there in a yankees time of need. He has no lost whatever respect and credibility I still had for the guy and become a useless waste of space in my mind. I was glad dog left and I think I will be even more ecstatic when mike and the fan are no longer one. Thank god there is 1050 because I dont think I am ever listening to that idiot again. So I say goodbye to that arrogant, conceited, self-centered, know-it-all, no talent, traitorous, disrespectful, insipid, hack and I cant wait to hear the news your fired.

That didn’t stop him from crawling all over Sosa and McGwire, though, did it? If the season had lasted another week, we would talk about the three of them as a love triangle.
I’m still working on it SA. I’ve got the full 40 man roster out here – some of the faces are still a mystery though.
Hey Pete help us out!! Re post the picture with names under. PLEASE!!
you gotta have faith-I agree with jennifer. I think that’s Bruney. But I’m not too sure.
Also, is that Veras behind him(whoever he is)?
24 players, plus 1 on the podium.
Business as usual.
“Keith you and I both there were GMs in baseball who looked down on guys who didn’t try steroids”
I bet this does not get printed or mentioned anywhere else
Angel
And just how is Selig going to confront Sosa or McGwire without any evidence because they didn’t have a test?
If he had nailed them on suspicion alone then you’d have a right to call for the commissioner’s head.
Just ignore it, GB. Not worth it.
I think i’m spying Chien Ming Wang’s hair.
Did someone tell him and Matsui to be the token Where’s Waldos?
jennifer,
nahh cant be, bruney is standing slightly in front of wang with the hat on, that one i know for sure. oh well. lol
Just looking at the picture, who is between Joba and Bruney in the black tee?
GB
Though the thought of a love triangle involving those three puts a troubling picture in my mind I hope I can recover from.
that is Brett Tomko
who’s the big guy in the black shirt along the fence.the photo with all the players
What is Brian Bruney wearing? I can see Joba, but I’m having a hard time picking out Bruney cuz he’s not as burly as he was.
Just ignore it? lol angel.
You truly are an apologist and on top of that you don’t have a clue. Sorry.
“hE TAKES every opportunity to make sure everyone who is listening knows who his team is in baseball but then, does everything he can to appear either neutral or against anything the yankees do.”
It’s called ‘objectivity.’ It’s what someone in an opinion forum is supposed to achieve. It’s what everyone on this blog constantly calls for from Gammons. If he spent all his time on the Yankees just praising everything about them, it would be boring and his show would not achieve the ratings that it does.
Angel
Black jacket, black hat in front of Wang, Hughes, Nady
Angel,
i believe bruney is the guy standing infront of wang with the black hat on. but who knows, with out the uniforms they all look like strangers lol
GreenBeret7: I wonder if Bud Selig has ever heard of “the buck stops here”?
Yeah….all 18 million of them. Imagine getting 18 mil a year to be inept.
—————-
Imagine getting $30 mil a year for 10 years to embarrass your employer.
I have nothing to say to you. Someone who is going to spend their time twisting my stance on something to infer that I have no problem with any drugs – just isn’t worth my time.
Sorry.
GB7
How do you think A-ROD did today?
I think he was, for the most part, truthful and remorseful. He did beat Young and Stupid to death though.
So let’s see
From right to left
mystery dude-Johnny Damon(mohawk)-Wang in from of him-Bruney-Hughes((behind Bruney’s right shoulder)-Nady(red)-Tomko-Tex-Joba-CC(white shirt)-Matsui(behind CC’s left shoulder)-mystery dude
Is that right?
Okay, Nady is in red. I see who you mean. Hmm.. I’m not sure on that one.
Angel,
You have to be kidding me? Selig’s job hinges on the ability to be able to negotiate with the mlbpa and instead of actually winning an argument, he barely even tried until the spotlight was on him. hE MIGHT as well have climbed under a rock he did so little to stop the pervasiveness in the sport. Not only that, but he did nothing to prevent bonds from passing aaron. And he did nothing but try to evade criticism and take any responsibility when all of the other players were being exposed.
The first time he actually confrtonted one of these situations for real was arod and then, this arrogant $^&^ says he is thinking of suspending and that he disgraced the game of all things. I think selig should look in a mirror when he uses words he doesnt understand. I think the steroid rules are still too lenient. 50 games is nothing and selig makes it sounds like an eternity. The first offense should be a year plus and the second should be kicked out of major league baseball. Selig constantly says he is the first comiss to ever make any headway in this debate – again, its because he was forced to and didnt even do his job instead pawning it off on congress using tax money.
Selig is also making 18 million per season and how did he get that kind of salary? Because baseball sprouted while he was commiss and in the midst of the steroids era and the homerun chases, selig made massive profits along with the owners and off the backs of guys like mcgwire and sosa. inSTEAD of condemning them, selig should thank them as they have made him tons of money in the past.
Out of all this hippocracy and there is a ton these day, selig’s comments to arod takes the cake as being the most hippocritical and laughable of the bunch. Of everyone involved in this saga, it is selig that has contributed most to this disgrace and his legacy will be a scar on the face of baseball for centuries to come. I hope selig can live with that little fact but the first thing he shoud do after ten years of pointing the finger at everyone but himself is take some fricken responsibility for his actions, be a man and own up to his part. He still denies that he did anything wrong to contribute to this mess- that is delusion to the extreme.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRhCD6MYdvM
This was found on You tube and shows just how easy it is to buy these things from pharmacies in mexico.
Pettitte looks like the gang leader, Mo the kid that could snap any moment, Jeter the laidback tough kid. Posada the kid that just there because they know him their whole life. Then we have Johnny who is the weird kid nobody wants to hang out with
It could be Ransom and Matsui’s hair behind Joba.
Confuscious,
Its not being objective. He objects to everything the yankees do – he never compliments or supports anything, What kind of fan is that? And no reporter in sports is objective especially those on radio. You cant be so naive to think anyone who spend 6 plus hours a day talking about sports can maintain their objectivity. Maybe if you write a column, its doable in sports but why do you think we know the favorite teams of all the major hosts on 880? Because they are very open about it and support their teams endlessly because they are passionate about sports. If that is objectivity, I dont want it. And why is he the only yankee fan on the fan, the only one that even tries to be objective (if you can call it that)?
The other thing is that he voices his opinions with so much certainty about EVERYTHING else. If he has an opinion, he wants it written into the consitution, he thinks it has so much credibility, The guy will not listen to people this strongly disagree with him for any length and becomes obnoxious, opinionated and arrogant about anything he feels strongly about. And your trying to tell me he maintains his objectivity with the yanks and nothing or no one else on his show? Im not buying it. i just think he loves to complain about the yanks and so he does all the time.
balboni
nice find. yeah, with the way mexico is running i suppose running down steroids in stores is pretty far down their list of priorities.
probably could come up with a pretty good list of what it ranks behind… lol.
where are Heckle and Jeckyl?
The real question is “Should we care?”
And the real answer should be “No.”
It was part of baseball, much like every other sports, and we have to accept it. It doesn’t make those who took it bad, those who didn’t good. There was a risk/reward to both. The numbers are not tainted, it is what it is.
my post with my conclusion on who the guy standing in front of CC is isnt going through

————————————————————
He did alright. I’m satisfied with the answers, even if the media isn’t. There are just some that didn’t need answered, because #1, they weren’t anybody’ business and #2, he gave up everything but names. Anything else, and it’s fuel for the Feds, and, it still might be as far as how the stuff was brought through customs.
I assume that from what he said, that he and his cousin must have talked it over and the cousin must be ok with it. Not sure if the cousin lives in the states, now or, not. That could be sticky if the Staute Of Limitations hasn’t run out, which, I believe is 5 years.
Perhaps, he could have said that any other questions about him or this incident be directed to him and not his teammates, coaches or manager.
Confucious -
Objectivity does not involve histrionics. Or should not. It seems to me it’s more a case of thinking he has to prove he’s objective by actually going overboard the opposite way.
But at least Francesa isn’t a Yankees booth guy. And I think most people realize he is more entertainment than reporter, or anyway, that’s how I think of him.
Kay is a different story, though.
just becuase you dont like arod confuscious does NOT mean that all yankee fans who despise arod are being objective in doing so. In fact, a feeling like that has no place in an objective forum. Any amount of hatred towards something is by definition not being objective so i dont know what you are talking about
Okay-The big dude on the right in the black shirt-Mike Harkey?
(I just saw someone mention it on the nyyfans forum)
Here is a picture of Harkey:

Alex admits it all… and that is it?
No penalties for having cheated to fans, baseball, the Rangers and the Yankees?
I´m surprised that the phony commissioner of baseball has not considered a suspension for the number of years Alex cheated, plus eliminating his cheating statistics of those three years.
That sure would be an example to cheaters and plain justice for the athletic competition in all baseball.
there we go, its definatly mike harkey. now ill pretend i’ve heard his name before. lol

Do you have any idea what a petulant child this makes you sound like?
You’re using the logic that I (or insert any media figure) can’t be objective because I hate A-Rod. But you arrived at the conclusion that I hate A-Rod because of opinions I voiced while trying to be *-click-* objective. So your logic just goes in circles and there is no way to illustrate a point to you.
Changing the subject. Did anyone here Gammons yesterday say that Penny has regained his velocity? Is that Gammons being Gammons or is that true? Anyone think he may be another tough pitcher in the east to wreckin with if its a fact?
Dave, I just think that they all share blame. Players union, the commissioner, players and those covering the game that turned a blind eye to it. All of them. Without exception.
Listening to Bud Selig deflecting right left and center – never taking accountability for anything except the good things – well it kinda sticks in my craw.
S.A.—He is one big SOB. Wouldn’t wanna run into him after one of Edwar’s bad days. Eek.

When you don’t have an intelligent reply, always resort to a juvenile personal attack. Neener neener to you too.
Plenty of blame to go around. MLB, Players Union, players that took steroids. Players that did not take anything also can share in the mess.
No one spoke up for years.
“I keep looking for people to blame, and I keep looking in the mirror. I blame myself.” Arod.
He accepted responsibility, he said what he took and how he took it. Not much more that he could do. Like or dislike Arod, that’s more then anyone else has.
I respect what he’s done to make things as right as he could. I hope the Yankees can get back to as normal as it ever is for them.
The many expressions of ARod –
Smug, smug, smug
Smug, smug, smug
Some nice variation there. He looks even more conceited on espn’s homepage.
