Well, I’ll give it a listen until 9PM.

    What happens @ 9PM?

  6. JoeyA

Are you plugging on your own blog Pete?

    Shameless

As soon as I read suzyn waldman I decided against it. I need the off season to take some time away from listening to her and I haven’t quite recuperated fully yet. I need about three more weeks or so. Even then, only for emergencies like in my car when there is a game on. I still haven’t quite figured out who I like least of that duo. Its like trying to decide between drowning and being burned alive. Decisions, decisions.

  8. Joe from Long Island

Thanks for the hint about Suzyn’s show. She usually runs a pretty good show, in my opinion.

Dave – if you’re reading – where do you go to school?

  9. dave

i didnt even read down far enough to see that you were on it pete. I got so hung up on suzyn, I may turn it on and if i had a radio in my room i definitely would.

  10. Nick in SF

Pete, given that you’re a media bigshot, is there any way that you can arrange to have Barbara Walters and/or Tom Brokaw say the name “Bob DuPuy” into an open microphone?

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Uncle Ellsworth

    Dave
Can you expound a little on that fire v drowning thing?

  12. Phl Parcells

    Dave-

you posts are too short. you need to fill them out.

  13. dave

    Joe,

Robert wood johnson medical school in piscataway, NJ. Suzyn usually runs a good show? Do you like her with the games or just the show? i CANT stand her on the games but sterling isn’t much better if any. Its unfortunate considering they represent the yankees. I dont know maybe some people like them. But i read an article a few weeks ago that had sterling as one of the worst announcers in the game so I dont think Im alone in my disdain…

  14. dave

haha. No matter what I do, I cant win with you guys – Who do I look like, arod?

  15. Frankie speaking . . .

Kevin Kennedy recently signed on with the Rays as a TV analyst.

  16. GMAN

Moyer not the only former Mariner with an opinion

Another former Seattle Mariner and current Phillie Right Fielder – Raul Ibanenz – forgives Alex and says he is definately worthy of the HOF.

Jamie and Raul are going to settle the Seattle connection once and for all!

Ibanez vs Moyer in 3 rounder at Phillies Camp in Clearwater.
Oddsmakers have Ibanez in a KO over Moyer in 2 rounds!!!

  17. dave

    SJ,

Did you just compare my posts to a scar? Just wondering. its great, I spend twenty minutes meticulously thinking and feverishly typing and then, people see them as scars. lol.

  18. no.27

If you were going to compare A-Rod to a basketball star, Karl Malone would probably be the guy.

No major injuries. Consistently one of the best players in the league. Multiple MVP trophies. Great at offense AND defense. Good from his first year in the league. Never won a chip. 2nd for career points.

  19. dave

Someone on 880 was comparing alex to wilt chamberlain. I dont remember who or why,

  20. Jeremy

    no. 27,

I think you’re on to something.

Malone and ARod are also known for saying weird and creepy things.

  21. Jeremy

If you’re a former ARod teammate and want your name in the paper, your ship has come in. All you need to do is say whether ARod belongs or doesn’t belong in the HOF, even though he’s got at least 9 years left in his career.

I’m sure we’re all dying to know what John Mabry and Chris Widger think on this pressing issue!

    Tex got a new bag!

  23. Joe from Long Island

Dave – I know many have other opinions, but I really like listening to John and Suzyn. Part of it maybe that I have a lot of respect for Suzyn and what she’s accomplished in her life – I believe she’s a breast cancer survivor, and I remember when she broke into the NY sports scene as a beat reporter for WFAN – and had to put up with Russo’s abuse. I kind of get into their shtick.

  24. S.A.-The 2009 MLB season is almost here

dave-how did the rest of your exams go?

Good to see that Tex has a Yankees bag.

  25. Doreen

In fairness to Suzyn and John Sterling, they have so many darned commercial messages and sponsored at-bats to get through, I don’t really know what it would be like if they got to call a game without all the interruptions. I think that’s what I like least about listening to a Yankees game on the radio.

I like Suzyn and I think, unfortunately, she is reduced to a sidekick on the game broadcasts. John’s mis-calls drive me up the wall.

  26. YankeeJosh

On the salary cap issue, if MLB wants to keep the best talent worldwide it needs to remain capfree.

A salary cap artificially caps the money players can make, obviously. That limits the ability of the league to lure the best players from around the world. Money becomes a huge factor for all teams and that means that fewer chances can be taken. The Yankees wouldn’t have had the cap room to make offers for Matsui years ago or the Red Sox for Matsuzaka in 2006. Those players wouldn’t have signed for less to come to the states and would have remained in Japan, and MLB would be an worse league for it.

We’re already seeing some of this in the NHL and NBA. Some basketball players are playing in Italy, and European hockey stars are being courted by Russia’s KHL. As a worldwide sport, MLB would likewise be impacted. The NFL can keep a hard cap in place because there is no competition from leagues overseas and the majority of the talent is American. That isn’t true for baseball.

The quality of the talent in the league will suffer. Will it be enough to make MLB an inferior league to those of other nations? No. But it will have a noticeable impact on the quality of the league. How can MLB lure Asian talent, when its teams can’t pay for the talents? With MLB committed to developing China and other Asian nations ino baseball hotbeds, instituting a salary cap would be the worst possible idea.

  27. GMAN

Speaking of former Fightin’ Phils…Larry Bowa calls out Brad Penny!

Per Tony Jackson of “Inside The Dodgers” website

“You mean the same guy who was never on time, out of shape and has one complete game? He has more stuff to worry about in the A.L. East than me. He has to worry about getting people out. He was never on time, was out of shape and never helped the kids out. Put that on the (expletive) dot-com. Put it in the headline.”

    Wait, there’s more:

“He never watched the game (when he was on the DL). Jason Schmidt watched the games. Nomar Garciaparra watched the games. Mark Sweeney watched the games. You go right down the line, everybody who was on the DL watched the games. But not him. He was out of there.”

    And finally, there was this:

“I’m in everybody’s corner when they work. When they’re lazy and don’t work. I could give a (well, you get the picture).”

Joe Torre and Ned Colletti basically declined comment, but Joe did say something funny.

“I don’t want to talk about that,” he said. “I’ll write about that in my next book.”

Hmmm maybe…not so laid back L.A.

  31. JoeyA

I’m sure Gammons won’t be commenting on Bowa’s revelations.

    OR, we’ll get this:

Larry Bowa’s comments, according to Terry Francona, couldn’t be further from the truth. Penny has been great with the young guys and works like a horse.

  32. E-Man

    Pinstripe bible blog?

  33. Uncle Ellsworth

GMAN What did Penny say to get Bowa so hot?

  34. Laura - Standing behind Alex!

“Another former Seattle Mariner and current Phillie Right Fielder – Raul Ibanenz – forgives Alex and says he is definately worthy of the HOF.”

Okay, can someone please explain to me why Raul “I totally ripped off PHI with my current contract” Ibanenz thinks that he’s in a position to forgive Alex? These comments by the players are borderline insane. Alex needs to seek forgiveness from one organization: the New York Yankees. Alex needs to be forgiven by his current teammates, of which Ibanez is not. Alex didn’t do anything wrong to Raul or any other former player that he needs their forgiveness. I really wish that these people would focus on their jobs (which should be baseball) and leave Alex alone.

  35. Laura - Standing behind Alex!

“if Griffey goes to Seattle, does Swisher/Nady get traded??”

vinny, you need to buy a newspaper every now and then. Griffey is signing with ATL.

So Francona got Bowa’s nightmare (Penny) and Bowa wants Francona’s nightmare (Manny)?

Clare, here is a bit of a follow-up to your post on Brien Taylor.

    ————————————————————

    GreenBeret7
    February 18th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
There’s a lot of bad misconceptions about what happened with Brien Taylor. He lives about 40-50 miles from here and was “The Name” back in 1990. His name was right there with Shannon and Sterling Shatpe, who are from Glennville, Georgia, about 25 miles from here. Taylor wasn’t involved in a fight in a bar. It happened away from the bar and he was at home and a cousin came by to say that his older brother had been sucker punched by 2 guys outside of a bar.

To make a long story short, Taylor swung at a guy with a left fist and missed. He tore the labrum in his shoulder. The kid was amazing. He moved his family out of an old trailer and had a house built for his parents. That’s where they all live now. He also bought himself a new Ford Mustang. He’s still driving it. He works as a brick layer, and has custody of his 5 daughters. His career should be winding down now, instead of never starting. He’s the same age as Andy Pettitte. Oh, yeah…his agent was SCOTT BORAS.

  40. GMAN

    Uncle,

Basically, Penny wanted out of L.A. and Bowa was one of the reasons…

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports caught up with Penny yesterday in Red Sox camp.

Penny said he was hurt all of last year and the Dodgers expected him to pitch anyway. It has been well-documented that the Dodgers thought he was being soft.

Anyway, the big right-hander also says that Dodgers third-base coach Larry Bowa — the only actual member of the Dodgers organization Penny mentions by name in this story — used to talk about him behind his back to other players.

  41. Uncle Ellsworth

    Thanks GMAN

Does anyone know if the Bleachers in the New Stadium will be connected to the rest of the park. Or will it be like the Old Stadium- an island unto itself.

  42. Reggie C.

Nady and Swisher are going to stay in pinstripes. Pete has Girardi on record that he’ll use Matsui in the OF only in emergencies. Yanks need Swish to ride the pine. Not saying he won’t grumble, but Swish getting traded would seriously deplete the bench. Keeping Swish only leaves the loser of the CF job out in the cold. If Melky loses it to Gardner, things are going to get interesting ’cause he’s out of options.

  43. Chris

Hey what happened to the ticket plans!?

  44. Chris

Ah nevermind they’re still there but hidden on the left side ticket menu. AH go on sale already!

  45. Phil

    Swisher is better than Nady.

  46. Jeff NJ

I’m trying to get into my Yankees account to see what my new package is, sounds like the Saturday plan was a popular downgrade from the 81 and 41 game plans. The site is to busy to get on.

  47. CENTRAL CT YANKEE

We recieved our Relocation plan toady. We have had a Sunday plan since 1998 in tier box 11…Our new Sunday plan is in section 305….We are out around the fould pole, but we are in the ball park

  48. GMAN

    What is going on!!!

Former Phillie 3rd baseman and Hall of Famer…
    Michael Jack Schmidt…forgives Alex!!!

“I’d welcome him if he got elected to the Hall of Fame,” Schmidt said Wednesday just outside Bright House Field.

“I always seem to walk down the middle of the fence. I understand the old hard-line guys that use the words, ‘He cheated. He cheated.’ And the other guys that go, ‘It was a culture thing back then.’ If you played then, you would have been tempted, too. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. I don’t want to get that wrong. We’ve all got some things in our closet.”

Would Schmidt have gotten caught up in the steroid culture had he played in that era?

“Most likely,” Schmidt said. “Why not?”

Jamie Moyer must not be happy.

  49. Laura - Standing behind Alex!

    “Swisher is better than Nady.”

He’ll need to prove that in ST to get the RF job.

Hey what happened to the ticket plans!?

Chris, did you get your plan today? How did you make out?

  52. Jeff NJ

Swisher and Nady will both be playing 6 games out of 7.

  53. Alfred

Wow thanks for sharing a great story Greenberet. Imagine if he had succeeded during the dynasty years. Maybe could have kept it going, at least in 2001, maybe, but we will never know.
Are there any players in the yankee org who possess the stuff that Brien taylor had? ex. betances, if he gains command and control?

  54. Uncle Ellsworth

I had Saturday package last year and am pretty sure I’m screwed out of it this year. Lucky if I can get the 12 game weekday pack.
I have suspicions that most of the packages were taken by brokers

  55. no.27

The outfield rotation is going to be interesting. Right now, it looks like Melky or Gardner will be in centerfield. At the same time, I could see Damon or Swisher playing CF when Molina is behind the plate to avoid having 2 weak bats in the lineup.

Because Damon is the leadoff hitter, he’s not going to sit if he doesn’t need a day off. He won’t miss more than 25 games without a serious injury. The big question is how the Nady/Swisher split will go.

Swisher is a better hitter than Nady, he’s younger, the Yankees are committed to him long term, and there’s no real difference in their defense. In my opinion, he should be a full time player on the Yankees. I’d like to see him get 100 starts in RF, 10-20 starts in CF, and 5 starts at 1B. That would still give Nady about 85 games in a corner OF spot.

  56. Steinbooga

Anyone listening to the Hot Stove show? What is this gatbage? Why are they talking about steroids??!!!

    STOP IT YOU ANNOYING WOMAN!

    what-up Laura

    newspapers = outdated

MLBtraderumors.com says it is Seattle or ATL

    Harold Reynolds reports the same.

  59. Laura - Standing behind Alex!

    “STOP IT YOU ANNOYING WOMAN!”

The worst part was when she asked Girardi what he tells Dante. I could be wrong, but I really don’t think that kids are slitting their wrists over this.

  60. Laura - Standing behind Alex!

“MLBtraderumors.com says it is Seattle or ATL”

Interesting. On ESPN’s Baseball Podcast, they said it was ATL.

  61. no.27

“Swisher and Nady will both be playing 6 games out of 7.”

It’s hard to see that happening unless Damon or Swisher play a good amount in centerfield. Damon isn’t going to get too many games off because they need him at the leadoff spot of the lineup.

  62. Joe from Long Island

Well, we got notified about our ticket plan.

Instead of our Saturday plan, we got shifted to 12-game, weekday plan; ten weeknight games and two weekday afternoon games; and further down the LF line than we were. We don’t have to drive several hours, like Drive 4-5, but coming out from Long Island is still going to be about 1-1/2 to 2 hours each way; and on a weeknight. When you work for a living, this is an issue.

My friend and I left that we would have to “cogitate” for a bit. But this is not as good as what we had.

    Disappointing.

  63. csp

    Dave,

“The problem is – i was always the kid in the class that would write 10 pages when the teacher asked for five.”

    Now I see the problem:
My professor will stop reading at page 5, if he said “5 page paper” and he meant it. Of course you can write as long as you want.

Keep posting. keep it short. line break, space between paragraph…

  64. Clare

    Thanks GB7,

Did you get at chance to read the article? Interesting piece on the business and sociological aspects of drafting players. Taylor does sound like a good kid with just awful luck.

To the people who disparage Scott Boras, Brien Taylor is one of the prime examples of what Boras is trying to accomplish. He’s talked alot about raising signing money for draft picks, because for a lot of kids, it’s their one chance to make some dough.

It’s a shame Taylor got hurt, but he’d be in worse shape if he didn’t get that signing bonus.

  65. Laura - Standing behind Alex!

Why does the interview keep getting interrupted by commercials?

  67. Jeff NJ

I just got into my invoice. I’m a partial plan holder for 11 years, most recently the Saturday plan out in Fair territory in left field lower level. I got bumped up to the Terrace level, which seems to be the front of the top, or the old Tier Main. Seats are a bit closer in though. Guess it could have been worse.

    ————————————————————

Of those I’ve seen, the Yanks have a few, but, none are left handed. Chamberlain has that kind of stuff, Brackman, Betances. It’s hard to say who he could have been…a left handed Bob Gibson comes to mind, or Koufax. The Yanks have a lot of kids with great arms, that I’ve seen, but, they’re so young, and a few have had injury issues, it’s easy to hope they all make it, but, realistically, probably only four besides Chamberlain will make an impact as starters. The rest is guessing from an amateur.

  70. DT

Yes the Suzie show is getting interrupted with a bunch of commercials on the net.

Just pretend those interrupts are John Sterling and it will all make sense.

It seems to me that the cutoff for old weekend plan holders and those that got shifted to the 12 game pln was 2004 . SOmeone i know had a saturday plan with feb 2004 seniority and got the same plan. I had December 2004 seniority andgot shifted to the 12 game #1 plan. But like somehave said I am in the building with good seats so will just try and upgrade next year to the plan I want and if no luck keep trying.

  75. Uncle Ellsworth

Chad Curtis on Waldman – he does not sound excited

  76. Joe from Long Island

Gayle – my friend and I have had the Saturday 12-game plan since 2003, and we got shifted to a weekday plan. Though we might take your tact, and take the deal in the hope of upgrading down the road (next year?).

My pleasure, Clare. Yeah, I read that…I had read it a few years ago, too. Taylor was a huge deal here in the Coastal Empire of South Carolina and Georgia. Sports is a big deal…in paricular football. He was really liked by everybody. He worked two jobs after baseball pratice and, was a bread winner in a dirt poor family. His problem was his cousins and an older brother. The fight actually involved Taylor’s brother and girlfriend, who was the aunt of the guy they Taylors had the fight with. I’ll link a NY Daily News story to what the police reports and local news reported. The story mentions the road he lives on…Brien Taylor Lane.

Yeah…what could have been. He was selected as the best minor league talent in baseball before he even played…ahead of Pedro Martinez and Manny Ramirez.

Sorry, I didn’t see your post. My guesses…

Mel Stottlemyre, Ron Guidry and Freddie Lynn. Munson, had he moved to another position starting in 1980, may have made it. Somebody that didn’t get the chance because of race, and still put up some great numbers was Minnie Minoso.

SoS, yeah, your pix, too, along with Tony Conigliaro.

I can still remember the SI story about Conigliaro! That story really made an impression on me. I wasn’t even a teenager when that happened to him.

    Joe from Long Island,

Sorry to hear you lost your Saturday plan too!

We we offered the #1 weekday plan.I just checked out StubHub,thinking about selling at least half of our games. Those same seats for a lot of the games you & I were offered are selling tonight on StubHub for less than face value. Apparently there are a lot of folks in our predicament trying to dump tickets.

Seems it’s the ARod show in the Yankee camp and “waiting for Jr” in both the Seattle and Atlanta camps.
What IS it with those darned ex-Mariners anyhoo?!?!

p.s. believe me, there are plenty of Griffey-philes up here in the left corner that are monitoring the situation.

Jen, Clare, Kathleen – to all the girls (sorry, women!) – you’re very welcome. Tex looks pretty darn hot in his shades….Green Beret, I will try to find a picture of a more drool-worthy player for you, lol.

I’m trying to recall the prior thread – Clare, was it you that posted the article about Bettye Taylor (I think that’s her name)? All I remember about her is that, at the time (and I was young), I thought she was a pain. She demanded more $$ from the Yankees, who were already giving Brien a king’s ransom.

Steroids are illegal in this country.

So are greenies without a prescription, so doesn’t that make all the MLB players who took them the past 40 years cheaters?

The hypocrisy of it all is astounding.

In answer to your question from previous thread

Last year and 4 previous years had 2 seats for the Saturday plan in field box 100 row 2 pretty much on the field.

This year we have 2 seats in 232B main level row 2 on the 12 game plan #1.

I know I have posted this before but I had a rather lengthy conversation with Kevin Dart a few weeks ago after I wrote him an email about my unhappiness with how the Yankees have handled this. This was before I got my relocation. He was very cordial and tried to explain the situation. Here are what I think are the solvent points:

1, The Yankees at the end of last year had 32,000 season ticket holders in one of their plans.

    2. They changed some of the plans for last year especially the 20 game flex plan where it used to be that you could chose your 20 games this year they now assign you the games and these games included weekend games thus lowering the amont of weekend plans they could have

    3. The Yankees did the relocation questionairre so they could find out what the ticketholder wanted rather than just assign, thus why the process took so long.

I think that with so many people upgrading to 41 game plans and full season plans with no standard of seniority (for example some 41 game plans holder got shafted down to 20 game)that there were not that many weekend plans aailable to start with.

Like I have said this was not handled the right way but it is the way it was done so I guess we just have to deal, be frustrated andtry to move up next year.

    Well whadaya know?

My feelings are mixed, as I don’t want anything to tarnish those memories (cuz we all know the M’s are re-building and Kenny ain’t what he used to be)

But, here’s to an unforgetable Farewell Tour….

    Welcome back, Jr!

Most Yankee fans think Swish is better than Nady, yet the only ones who count, the Yankees, think the opposite. That is why Swish has to take Nady’s job away from him, not the other way around. I’m not happy about this particular development – Swisher should not be relegated to bench duties.

Bad move. ATL at least has a chance of being involved in a pennant race. SEA is looking at the cellar again. I would have wanted to finish my career on a high note.

    GB7,
I thought you would mention that pitcher from Cleveland that pitched way back in your time and hurt his arm in a couple years. He just died i think last year. Rodg12 said the name and it slipped my mind once again.

    Juan Gonzales?
    Albert Belle?
    Mo Vahgn?

    ————————————————————

No on those three. Herb Score didn’t get enough time in, and really, although his first two years were sensational, it’s hard to pick on just those two years. Mark Fydrich? Same with Karl Spooner for the Dodgers in 1954. Two complete game shutouts and 27 strikeouts in his first two ML games.

  105. Chris

Drive 4-5…I did not get any yankee tickets yet. I keep checking the site for info on the 15-game Sat plans and was surprised to see them moved off of the front ticket page and to the left menu bar. I hope they eventually go on sale and will continue checking to find out if any official date is set.

  106. Betsy

I posted this in a prior thread, but Prime 9 on Monday had a show devoted to “what might have beens” -I haven’t watched my tape yet, but here are a few guys on the list:

    Lyman Bostock
    JR Richard
    Tony Conigliaro
    Herb Score

I have a particular affinity for JR because my father met him once and I ended up with an autographed picture of JR. It’s disgraceful that no one believed the man was sick – he could have died.

  107. Phil

Bonds and Maddox and a bunch of other FA’s did that to the Yanks in the early `90’s. We ended up with Jimmy Key.

i saw brien taylor pitch at port charlotte(rangers) with my father. we were right behind the plate. the catcher had serious trouble catching him. he was high 90’s and struck out ,if i remember right , 13 in 6 innings.
it was the most dominating pitching performance i had ever seen.

my father who had watched yankees since the time of ruth said he had never seen anything like him. we left that night thinking we had just seen the next great yankee.

  109. Phil

Charlie Keller most certainly would have been a Hall of Famer had he not missed time for WWII then hurt his back when he came back. Tommy Henrich probably would have made the Hall, too, had it not been for WWII.

  110. Chris

Seeing Junior Griffey back in a Mariners uniform will be real cool. He’s got the nicest swing I’ve ever seen. What a shame all those injuries hampered his career.

    gayle,

Thanks for the explaination. We’ve had our 4 terrific seats in Sec 2 since 2004.I cant tell you the heat I took living in MA and buying Yankee season tix months after the biggest choke in history lol.

Granted, they were in Section 2 of the MVP Tier and we werent paying $100 per seat. But it was affordable family fun and it made the 350 mile trip worthwhile.

The bottom line is the bottom line. There was no need to tear down Yankee Stadium other than to sell luxury seats at prices the average fan can’t touch. The little guys are no more than collateral damage to the suits running the team now.

  113. Betsy

Darn darn darn about Griffey back to the M’s. Now Swisher is probably gone…

    ————————————————————

There are no drool-worthy baseball playes for me, unless we talk about the little blonde southern belle (Sue Ellen) in “A League Of Their Own).

In fairness, NYY did try lowballing Brien Taylor at $300,000 bonus. She knew that there were kids getting more. Brian Sabean also thought that 300,000 would get it done fast for a poor family. Scott Boras volunteered his services as an advisor, figuring that he would then be the agent.

  116. Vito

Doubtful that Nady or Swisher are traded to ATL. They will sign Garret Anderson instead.

  117. Joe from Long Island

gayle – Thanks for the insight on your last post.

I, like many people, am not happy with what we’re being given, ie, weeknight games instead of the weekend package that fit into our schedule as working people. As you have pointed out, it is what it is, and we must deal with it.

Though I’m not thrilled with it, the way I’m looking at it, between my friend and I it comes to 6 weekday games during the season, of which one is a day game. So, that’s 5 schoolnights which I have to suck it up to get to the game. Roughly one game per month, give or take. My hope is that by keeping the plan, we build up further seniority (for what it’s worth) in hopes of upgrading to the promised land of playoff tickets and a Saturday plan down the road.

Either that, or give them up entirely, and watch TV and pay for single game tix.

I’m leaning toward sucking it up for the year, but I’m not happy.

I think Nady and Swisher are staying in the Bronx, even though Griffey went to Seattle. The news that as of now Matsui can only DH means that the team isn’t convinced that his knees are going to hold up, so I don’t think having both Nady and Swisher is a luxury, as much as it’s a necessary amount of depth.

I also don’t think the Braves can afford to take on either guy’s salary (especially Swisher’s), and they wouldn’t give up much for Nady knowing he’s walking. Swisher is more valuable to the Yankees than anything they will get in return for him because they control him next year guaranteed, which you can’t say about any of their other corner outfielders at the moment.

Nady, you would be selling him for 10 cents on the dollar, so why not just keep him and see if he sticks to the walk year performance enhancer?

With Matsui and Damon as injury risks, Nady and Swisher will get 400+ AB’s easily. If Damon is plan B in CF in case the kids falter, they will get even more AB’s. I wouldn’t trade either of them. I think they keep Swisher because Damon, Matsui, Nady are all FA’s at year’s end with an aging OF free agent class next year:

GreenBeret, thanks for the info about the Taylor situation. When I have some more time, I will go back and read the article that was posted earlier……

Andrew, I hope you’re right about Swish and Nady. I admit I’ve taken a particular liking to Swish -what I’ve read here and elsewhere has convinced me that he is just the kind of player the Yankees need – but I am more than happy to keep both of them. In fact, I prefer it that way. Joe will have to be creative, though, in order to keep whoever doesn’t get the RF job happy while he rides the pine.

  127. S.o.S.

    Vito,
Lets not pencil Ajax in center field quite yet. He hasnt batted over .300, strikes out a ton and hasnt played a game of AAA. Melky batted over .300 and it didnt translate in the bigs. Im not saying he cant, just too early to tell.

  128. S.o.S.

    Betsy,
It looks like Matsui will not play any defense unless of an emergency. I would hope that would mean they are keeping both. Unless they are thinking of bringing up Baby Huey Duncan. Which would be a dissaster waiting to happen.
