OOH, Do we get to name the topic?

  2. Tseng February 19th, 2009 at 1:37 pm

Maybe some kinda motivational speech like “I don’t know how many years I have left, but I want at least one more world championship before I go… I have faith in you all to carry the team to the Series.”

  3. JoeyA February 19th, 2009 at 1:39 pm

    Who is this Walter Silva?

Anybody have numbers on the guy, or a look at his stuff?

Any insight at all is most appreciated.

A bidding war between us and the Padres is a funny thought. That’s like a bidding war between US and Malaysia

  4. Statsney February 19th, 2009 at 1:40 pm

    Big Stein rallying the troops!!

  5. Potch February 19th, 2009 at 1:41 pm

JoeyA, more like bidding between the US and Aruba. But could be desirable locations, but the US will get you WAY more money.

The Boss is in a wheelchair? Is it just because of frailty/old age or is something wrong?

And here’s the big question, will he be able to stick his foot up A-Rod’s butt from a sitting position? (KIDDING…)

  6. rbj February 19th, 2009 at 1:41 pm

    Final season for Big Stein?

  7. jennifer February 19th, 2009 at 1:41 pm

It is probably going something like this.

“I want to double to ticket prices in the stadium, the only way I can do that is if you win a world series, so you better win!!”

    For NBA fans

*According to the Chicago Tribune, the Bulls have sent Larry Hughes to New York in exchange for Thomas, Jerome James and Anthony Roberson.*

  9. m February 19th, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Do the group members have rings or not? This is like Idol.

    saucY,

Thanks for the rankings. This stood out: *and hustle Jennifer Aniston into camp to watch her “good friend” Derek Jeter take batting practice.* (i like her much better than minky)

This was pretty cool: Sometimes I wish our country were run as intelligently and efficiently as the Red Sox are. Then I remember that I’m a Yankee fan. … They could win 95 or they could win 80, depending on the shaky health of the everyday guys. David Ortiz and Mike Lowell return from significant ouchies, and the group of J.D. Drew, Rocco Baldelli and Mark Kotsay is unlikely to remain upright for more than a few weeks at a time. … They do, of course, have the prospects to go out and fill any holes when low-performing teams start trying to shed big contracts (Magglio Ordonez?). Here’s some wild speculation hatched in my brain and not based in reality: If Lowell can’t get it done, they’ll deal hitting-machine prospect Lars Anderson and other goodies for Miguel Cabrera.

Why would anyone give up Anderson for Cabrera? :) I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but Cabrera has a little bit of a stench still.

JoeyA – judging from what I read, doesn’t sound very good.

  42. dave February 19th, 2009 at 2:07 pm

About the ticket plan: The yankees could have been smart, realized they have broken ticket sales each year for the past few years and that sales are only going to get better and built a stadium with any many if not more seats. Instead they decreased the number of seats, drove prices up more by doing so and forced fans out of their seats and plans. Its pretty $hi^^% in my opinion. I have one of those weekend plans and have had them for the past eight seasons. I dont even know if we are going to continue to go esp if they cant even offer us sunday games.

  43. m February 19th, 2009 at 2:08 pm

    rodg,

Phoenix holding out for Wally. At first blush, I thought, “oh no, they’ll be really tough to beat”. But then I realized that having Shaq in the paint would really restrict LeBron’s around the rim game. As it is now, Nash won’t even venture in there. He couldn’t operate with the offense running through Shaq.

Lebron’s a little different than Nash because he’s so much bigger. Shaq’s a pretty good passer so I think he and Lebron could play a lot of two-man game with Mo Williams spotted up as the shooter. How crazy would it be (and I’m really hoping it never happens) if Kobe, DWade and Lebron all won rings with Shaq??????

  60. dave February 19th, 2009 at 2:15 pm

of course, they stronly suggest that we take whatever plan they give us because they want to sell out their weekday seats too for every game and this is a good way to do it by forcin single day season ticket holders from a weekend to a weekday. Do they not realize that people go to work and school during the week or they just dont care? Either way, its so easy to tell the fans to just accept the weekday games or nothing but not nearly as easy for the fans to actually be able to get to weekday games.I knew they were changing where we sit but this is the first I am hearing that they are changing when we go to the game. And Im sure they are really helpful at that number ha!

  63. m February 19th, 2009 at 2:17 pm

    rodg,

Haha. What I really meant was that Shaq would literally get in the way. Lebron drives a lot. Would the big shaqtus get out of the way fast enough?

Where’s AJ, we haven’t heard much about him. I got stuck watching a new show on A&E. It’s a reality show called “The Exterminators”. It’s like Orange County Choppers but they’re a family that eradicates pest in Louisiana. It was pretty hilarious. But anyway, the main character reminded me of AJ. Tall and lanky with the really wild, blonde hair & tats.

  64. rodg12 February 19th, 2009 at 2:21 pm

    m -
That definitely would be the question if the move went down. Would Shaq clog the lane too much. I’d lean toward no.

  65. Brandon (CC/AJ/Marky Mark..4 DAYS& PEDS !) Now batting #6 Alex Rodriguez February 19th, 2009 at 2:22 pm

‘Poor Tim Thomas… gets traded to the Knicks and Bulls twice. First for Eddy Curry, now for Larry Hughes.’

Truely that deal is a wash, Chris Wilcox is the first deal that makes sense for the Knicks in a long time. Now they need to figure out how to deal Nate and Lee for something while they can. You can always sign them as FAs and the market isn’t that outrageous might as well get something for them first.

  66. Nick in SF February 19th, 2009 at 2:23 pm

“i hate how CC and Joba wear their hates”

But do you love how they wear their loves?

  67. dave February 19th, 2009 at 2:24 pm

The team really must be working hard because these guys look exhausted and girardi looks about 100 years old. I love how out of everyone on the team, I think only Johnny, Matsui, CC and Cano were smiling.

  68. m February 19th, 2009 at 2:24 pm

    rodg,

Probably not. But LeBron gets about 80% of the touches. And the Big Dog likes to be fed.

But, on the bright side, we get to hear about how LeBron (or Mo Williams) is the best player he ever played with and how Mike Brown is the best coach he ever had.

Could the Knicks make three deals today? Sources say the Kings have offered Kenny Thomas for Nate Robinson and Jared Jeffries. If the Knicks could move Jeffries, it would clear another $6.8 million in the summer of 2010. The Knicks would have to give up the talented Robinson and eat Thomas’ $8.7 million salary next year … but it’s probably worth it to the Knicks. Especially now that they’ve shored up their offense with the Larry Hughes and Chris Wilcox deals.

Hughes is a waste, he can’t shoot, he’s a glamour player that thinks he’s T-Mac. He’s basically just a guy that will come in and look a bit better than Tim Thomas at first then the broke back Larry Hughes shows up. Today the best move they made is for Chris Wilcox which signals the end of David Lee in NY because you have to trade him now.

Pete, could you ask our new pitchers (CC+AJ) how they plan to deal with the team’s mediocre defense (old guys and bad prospects in key defensive positions)? Obviously they can’t say, “I don’t know. Man, Jeter has no business at short.” But maybe at least they can talk about how they handle errors or something.

as for anniston vs minka, on looks i’d probably pick a different one each day. star power/resume: anniston, without a doubt… dating Jeter *is* Minka’s claim to fame

It is pretty funny that dave posted the longest link on here I’ve seen in a while. You gotta admit that dave….

“Larry Hughes quit once he got his contract”

Hughes is supposedly a high character guy. He passed on scholarships to all the big schools and went to St.Louis so he could be near his younger brother who was serioulsy ill. His brother ultimately passed at age 20, back in 2006. That’s probably had as much impact on him as his contract did. Doesn’t impress me as a quitter.

This place has a lot of rules all of a sudden – oh the sacrifices we make.

    Arod fan,
I dont know what you expect them to say. They will probably just talk about all the positives of the yanks defense – like tex and the solid OF if melky/gardner plays center. Also, arod, jeter and cano are not THAT bad of a defensive infield or at least CC would never say they are. He will talk about how good they will play behind him next year. Honestly, the defense is worlds ahead of what it was last year with nady/swish taking over for abreu and the best defensive first baseman in baseball for giambi. If cano has a good year defensively and posada holds up, this team has a decent defensive unit all of a sudden.

Some of those pics are downright bad.

Pettitte looks like somebody just handed him another subpoena.

Joba looks like he just got released from the drunk tank.

I hope these aren’t the pics they’re going to use on the scoreboard.

They should look menacing, not nervous!

rodg- i honestly didnt even notice how long it was until after i posted it and m commented on it nor did I know it messed up the formatting for people. And i have never used tinyurl until now but i guess you learn something new every day. I have been doing aright with the length of my posts over here – lets try to take it one blogging problem at a time.

  112. dave February 19th, 2009 at 3:06 pm

meanwhile, I have gotten a few responses about the size of the link and no one mentioned a thing about the picture I was linking to. I thought it was a pretty cool picture no?

Steve B does it really matter, you can’t tell me you see Larry Hughes and blush about it. He’s not a significant player anymore, the best thing about today is JJ Fat is gone and Malik I pull chairs for a living Rose netted us Chris Wilcox..an actual big that defends, rebounds and blocks shots. He’s the poor version of Amare Stoudamire but can when he wants to drop 16 + pts. 10 + rebs and block 4 shots..I can’t believe I’m actually saying block shots w/ the knicks. 8O

    nice pic dave.

you’ve taken some abuse recently, but come through with shining colors.

trisha can attest, it can get a little chippy in here, but no ones out to get you. good job making adjustments.

any thoughts as to when the melky/gardner decision will be made?

  117. Doreen February 19th, 2009 at 3:25 pm

    Wow -

Pictures were pretty bad. These guys (except Damon & Cano) look like they’re going to the dentist or something. Pettitte’s was just weird.

  118. DT February 19th, 2009 at 3:56 pm

If Joe G. would just let ice cream and candy back in the clubhouse –

all those player frowns would be turned upside down.
