Great catch practice

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Feb 21, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Mickey Rivers is running a drill in right field. Johnny Damon, Nick Swisher and Todd Linden are trying to catch balls thrown near the top of the wall.

It looks like something we did as kids up against the fence behind Campbell School.

Shelley Duncan is in the next group. I need to stay and watch. Good luck to the wall.

This will lovingly be referred to as the Abreu drill in the future.

Mickey Rivers, Johnny Damon and Nick Swisher.

How much fun do you think it would be to hang with that group for a while?:)

Not that I belive Wikipedia is the best of sources but here is what I found. Unfortunately it does not mention any relation to Hal

I bet bobby abreu would’ve called out sick today if he was a yankee…

  8. Wang Chung February 21st, 2009 at 11:41 am

hahaha this is definitely the new abreu drill. We need to make sure our outfielders are comfortable banging into the wall.

  9. lauren February 21st, 2009 at 11:42 am

    A-Rod on the Economy
    By Jack Curry
Alex Rodriguez said he did not have money invested with any companies connected with Robert Allen Stanford, an American financier accused of fraud. Unlike his Yankees teammates Xavier Nady and Johnny Damon, who have had money frozen by the federal government, Rodriguez invested elsewhere. The three players are represented by Scott Boras.

“What a terrible economy, huh?,” Rodriguez said. “Scary.”

Rodriguez has made almost $200 million in salary in his career. He is also in the second year of a 10-year, $275 million deal. When Rodriguez was playfully asked how people in much more modest financial situations are supposed to feel as he laments the distressed economy, he did not offer a direct answer.

The next question stumped Rodriguez too. Since the economy is so wobbly, what kind of concessions has he made? Rodriguez paused for a few seconds, pulled on his uniform pants and smiled.

“I’ve got to think about that,” he finally said.

In a stressful week that could blossom into a stressful season, it was one of the first lighthearted moments involving Rodriguez and reporters.

    ahh, too funny.
It’s definitely my laugh of the day.

Then Mickey’s gonna do a drill where he takes them to the dog track.

  15. DominicanYank February 21st, 2009 at 12:03 pm

We used to play that all the time at IS 61 in Queens where someone would throw the ball and we would try to “rob” a homerun. Fun times…

  16. SteveB February 21st, 2009 at 12:03 pm

    Rishi–

a-rod has no concept of the economy. You can’t knock him for that though.

As a business owner who is seriously feeling the crunch, I’ll tell you what I want a-rod to do—-

    SPEND.

  17. Rishi February 21st, 2009 at 12:13 pm

oh, Steve – I totally agree…didn’t post as a knock on A-Rod (not into knocking people who play for the team I support)…
I agree on the spending too – I think everyone making crazy money should be spending. I’m doing my part, but everyone else should, too :)

  18. Rishi February 21st, 2009 at 12:13 pm

    * not to imply I make A-Rod money…you know what I mean…

  19. SteveB February 21st, 2009 at 12:22 pm

    Rishi–
I didn’t mean to imply you were knocking him. My “you” was a kind of a “generic you”. I understood where you were coming from.

It’s a little nutty to think what an impact it would have on my business with the addition of just 1% of a-rod’s 2009 salary. Then again I don’t have 50,000+ people (plus those watching on TV, etc) examining my every move when I work, and seemingly millions examining my every act the rest of the time.

“Mick the Quick”. Damn I’d love to live in Tampa this time of year.

  21. hot karl February 21st, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Dude, I like the idea of pictures, but your bosses can’t spring a hundred bucks for a camera for you? You are working your ass off, and they can’t hook you up for having the best yankee blog around? Those far away pics are murder.

  22. MELKYFAN February 21st, 2009 at 1:28 pm

What about Melky, why isn’t he at that practice?

  23. lola February 21st, 2009 at 1:37 pm

  24. TT 15 February 21st, 2009 at 1:44 pm

I would love to talk to Mickey Rivers.I am not sure I would understand him. Ever listen to him talk to Dan Patrick?

  25. VT Yankeefan February 21st, 2009 at 8:35 pm

“Mickey Rivers is running a drill in right field.”

Mickey said after the workout he would be showing the younger guys the difference between a trifecta and an exacta.
