Talking it over

Peter Abraham
February

Here’s Dave Eiland talking with CC Sabathia and Chien-Ming Wang.

Both looked really good. Wang got A-Rod to chase two sliders. CC is just crazy good.

Watching Phil Hughes now.

  5. S.A.-The 2009 MLB season is almost here

    Churn-Ming Wang?

Thanks for the Updates Pete! Great stuff.

    Churn-Ming Wang?

    ——————-

Did he catch what CC had?

  7. Betsy

Nice- fans are in mid-season form, bashing Alex for missing a couple of BP pitches. Lovely – and fans wonder why so many athletes don’t want to play in NY.

Thanks so much, Pete! I’m waiting to hear your verdict on Phil because I haven’t read anything about him this spring (I don’t mean here, I mean in newspapers, in other blogs, etc….).

I guess the flu didn’t take much out of CC – and is “Churn” Ming-Wang Chin’s twin brother? I love it…….!

Perhaps you shouldn’t take yourself too seriously, I’m pretty sure it was a joke.

And what athletes don’t wan’t to play in NY? Last I looked the Yankees and Mets have done just fine in free agency.

  9. Bronx Baseball Daily

It’s really not hard to get Arod to swing and miss at a slider. Especially if he threw it away.

  10. Justin {welcome to ny..tex}

Great i hope your not just saying cc is great because you like the guy lol..great s.t. coverage pete

  11. Kuang

    It’s Chien-Ming Wang.

    Peter Just typed wrong letter!!

  12. Doreen

This is all fun to read, Pete. Thanks. Can’t wait to see Melancon for myself.

  13. Larry

I can get A-Rod to chase 2 sliders with my 39 MPH Fastball/Slider.
The Mets may have a guy named Putz, But the Yankees have the real Putz,

  14. Jay

Not surprised… you can fool Arod with good breaking pitches. You can’t do this with Manny, Miguel Cabrera, Pujoles etc. but you can with ARod. I think it’s psychological more than anything else

  15. 66 stripes

Which athletes don’t want to play in NY? Most of the ones who don’t want to come here, don’t want any East Coast city, ala Maddux, Peavy etc.

    Overreaction, as usual.

  16. Phil

If Wang’s slider continues the improvement he showed with it last year, his K rate will climb.

You can fool any hitter with a good breaking pitch.

  18. Jeremy K -- Can't wait for April

    Predictions:

    Wang: 20-6

    Sabathia: 22-9

    Wouldn’t that be awesome??

  19. Jeremy K -- Can't wait for April

    A-Rod: .320 AVG, .438 OBP, 47 HR, 139 RBI

Totally random, but again, would be really cool

  20. klem

Hey Pete, thanks for the updates. Real baseball ROCKS! Besides, typos like Churn-Ming…is fun to read… Ha Ha Ha

  21. 7*7

That is either an indication of how nasty Wang’s slider has gotten or how out-of-it ARod is.

    Hopefully the former.

  22. Phil

People hammer hanging sliders, not good sliders. What we should be happy about here is that Wang’s slider is coming around to the point where he can gets swings and misses from a great hitter. Of course, the pitchers are always ahead of the hitters at this point.

  23. 7*7

But, yes, it’s a game, too. And games are supposed to be fun.

“We’re playing baseball, and we’re playing baseball for the New York Yankees,” Swisher said. “Seriously, what could be better than that?”

    love swisher

  24. DominicanYank

Wonder how Hughes is doing. Can’t wait for Pete’s update.

  25. Caps

Wilcox was a nice acquisitions… wish I could say the same about Larry Hughes.

  26. Nick in SF

Larry Hughes is going to be great, I can’t believe poeple are giving up on him. So short sighted. He’s still only 22 years old!

Oh wait, that’s Phil Hughes. Never mind.

  27. dennis-costanza(sox fan)

    Nick.

Happy Sunday. Hope you are having a good weekend.

Any hoop action today? I need something to root for..

    Take care -dennis

  28. JoeyA

    Pete-
Coverage has been more than we could ask for.

30 teams in 30 days on MLB network –

    Yankees tonight!

  29. Brandon (CC/AJ/Marky Mark..4 DAYS& PEDS !) Now batting #6 Alex Rodriguez

‘Larry Hughes is going to be great, I can’t believe poeple are giving up on him. So short sighted. He’s still only 22 years old!

Oh wait, that’s Phil Hughes. Never mind.’

Made me choke in laughter

  30. Nick in SF

Thanks, dennis. No hoops action as of yet, I’m going to be spending most of my day doing laundry, packing, and taking care of errands. I’m leaving tomorrow for 8 days in Mexico.

I’ll take a peek at the afternoon lines after I get another cup of coffee. ;)

  31. dennis-costanza(sox fan)

    Safe travels.

Let me know if you take any action. I am doing an expense report that I have put off for weeks and need a diversion..

    Good Luck. -dennis

If they don’t get zapped by the injury bug, this year is going to be really fun.
