Maybe he channeled his inner-A-Rod and decided he was going to pitch in am "image-concious" manner instead of his usual "anything-for-the-win" mode. I guess he cared too much about his career post-season stats, and thus blew the saves. Other guys play baseball as an avenue to make money and if they win, well that is great.
