We’re gonna play some pool, skip some school, act real cool

I can’t take credit for this headline. Noted Springsteen fan Connie Schwab of the Yankees media relations department suggested it.
You should be able to identify everybody in the photos. That’s Phil Coke with Mariano Rivera in the next-to-last shot and Jose Molina leaning over the shoulder of A.J. Burnett. You can also see Andrew Brackman behind Chien-Ming Wang.
Brackman was paired with Kei Igawa in the first tournament. Now there’s an unlikely duo.
All photos courtesy of the Yankees.

Great pictures
Love it!
My head is about to expl
Oh, man, Pete, these were the best! Thanks! (Great header line, too, Connie!)
That is the first shot of Phil Coke without a hat. Good looking Yankee!
Did the Yankees rent out the entire hall, or were there other customers there at the time?
Great pictures, With this kind of fun stuff, Girardi may not be behind the 8 ball this year.
What I wouldn’t give to be working at that pool hall and suddenly see these guys walk in.
Pete, can you see if you can get some photos of Jeter, Tex and A-Rod?
Melky + Nady vs. Swisher + Gardner
Jeter + A-Rod vs. Cano + Tex
CC + AJ vs. CMW + Andy
it’s actually more of a bar/club than pool hall. that looks like peabody’s, up by usf
“What I wouldn’t give to be working at that pool hall and suddenly see these guys walk in.”
If it were me, I probably would have fainted.
You can see Robi behind Molina in that AJ/Molina pic and Shelly Duncan lining up a shot (good luck cue ball
) behind Mo/Coke in that pic.
WAAAAY too many $250 t-shirts.
Otherwise, GREAT pics!
LOL. Just noticed Girardi giving Duncan instructions in that Mo/Coke pic with Nady/Robi/AJ and other looking on. Wonder what he’s saying???
Good gravy. Mariano Rivera dresses like he’s ready to move into Phase 3 of Del Boca Vista.
cool pics thanks for posting them
Shelley is about to send that ball out the window!
Thanks Connie and Pete.
Joba rocking the Wasted Space T-shirt in tribute to the Big G
Pete but you WOULD HAVE thought of that caption but she beat ya to to, right? Say yes or your Bruce Fandom will be called into question
LOL, great post Guy Incognito.
I put the over/under on Shelly’s broken cues at 8
I put the over/under on Shelley’s broken cues at 8
aj burnett = dale ernhardt jr…
where is arod …amd jeter …and my favorite cc…
playa between Cano and AJ looks too big to be Melky… Humberto?
Good lord Brackman is a giant. In a couple of years, the rotation of CC, Burnett, Wang, Joba, Hughes and Brackman (pick 5) will have to be the tallest/largest in the league, right?
I think this is a good team building exercise but, come on, does the squad really need a day off after just a week of spring training?
I think Joe is telling Shelley – “that pocket in the corner not the one on the next table.”
My god Brackman is tall. Can’t wait to see the guy pitch. Yes I know that has nothing to do with height, and yes, those are two separate thoughts.
AJ Burnett: I’d hit it
oh my god, I just snarfed coffee over the Del Boca Vista comment. LMAO!!!!
But doesnt Mo get some youth points for pitching like he’s still 25 and coming out to Metallica though?
these pics are awesome! im loving the burnett/molina picture
i had to open this page in a 2nd window to avoid over-scrolling…
Giving the team the day off and having them spend it together was a smart move by Girardi. Why am I not surprised that Mo would win. He’s like Jordan-good at everything and never wants to lose.
“Mariano Rivera was the afternoon’s big champion, winning twice — once with Phil Coke and once with Andy Pettitte. The pairing of Rivera and Pettitte defeated the tandem of Nick Swisher and Hideki Matsui in the final tournament.”
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com.....8;c_id=nyy
oh man i would have loved to watch that battle lol
Thankfully Matsui has his, uh, collection to cheer him up after that tough loss. lol.
I don’t think Joe is telling Shelley anything, he’s yelling: “INCOMING!!!”
Headline on yahoo sports:
Source: A-Rod hires same lawyer as Sosa
Funny he is also the same lawyer as Pettitte. But that doesn’t sounds as sensational.
pete those are great piks cant wait for the season to start
Thanks for your overwhelming response to Fantasy Baseball. Over 70 people responded. I have sent invites to the 10 people who were first.
For the others who are interested, you can go to ESPN and open up some more groups. It’s free and every 10 people is a private league.
Girardi’s a genious. About time someone put some fun back into being on this team. All work and no play makes the Yankees get in 3rd place in the east.
DAMN… I can only imagine the reaction of the pool hall’s owner when they all finally walked in the door lol
“Teixeira on the worst pool player: “There were plenty of bad ones. Brian Bruney takes the cake today as the worst pool player on the team. He’ll take the heat for that one.”"
http://bombersbeat.mlblogs.com/
Joba looks lean and mean
I guess he meant it when he said he was in the best shape of his life.
lol, Bruney looks like a guy that would be a good player.
I love that they called this a “field trip.” Very kid-like. I think it makes so much sense, especially when you think that all species of players (pitchers & position guys) got to spend time together, plus some guys will be going to the WBC.
No matter how the season unfolds, this is a great start.
i think i’ll suggest this to my boss as a team building activity. we usually do one a year. last year was mini-golf.
Great idea by Girardi. Stroke of genius.
I can see this becoming a tradition…. the yearly spring training pool hall field trip…
Yea if this team loses 3 games in a row in April, Lupica will refer back to the lackadaisical camp where they played pool and had fun rather than working hard.
Yeah, Joba does look pretty good. Much better than those pics from MSNBC or CNBC or whichever of those NBC’s it was who interviewed him in the offseason. I guess it was just a bad angle then, sighs of relief!
Bruney and Burnett aren’t so tough. They have wash-off tattoos and glue on nipple rings.
Interesting, Coke throws lefty but shoots pool righty.
Hey Pete, Happened to come across a recent clip of A-rod in the parking lot in Tampa on youtube. I believe it’s Paul Blart, Mall Cop zipping by at the 14 second mark. Is that him? lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAwFKfTpR18
Few questions i need answered Pete.
Did Igawa wear his shades while playing pool?
Did Riveras ball naturally cut?
What was the sign that Molina gave A.J. before he hit it?
Did Molina purposely lose games to get the pitcher a winning attitude to start the season?
Can Brackman touch the other side of the pool table without his feet leaving the ground?
Was Ching Ming Wang hitting for Brackman because the wall was too close to the table for a big guy?
Was Pettitte telling Joba to ease up and go with his off speed stuff?
There can be no doubt what was heard before Mariano chalked his cue for his 1st shot on the table . . . . .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRYDetbwegs
Great pix, Pete. Thanks!
Mo should’ve been disqualified for uncool footwear.
jeans and sandals… love the MO
Was there room for 64 players?
Doreen
My mistake the other day about seeing you in ST.
It was Claire that I met…I realized it last night, then I saw that you posted that you have never been to ST.
My bad.
I just noticed behind Rivera and Cokes picture. Girardi is pointing to the ball Duncan is about to hit and all i can think of is Girardi saying ” If you cant get this pressure shot in, theres a one way Britton (ticket)to Scranton with your name on it.”
Teixeira, CC, AJ and Swisher are really adding a lot to the team and they haven’t played a game yet.
Thank you for the pictures, Pete! They are charming.
Wow this team is awesome. So much chemistry and a laid-back atmosphere.
“Everyone wants to say that was the Joe Girardi ban. That was an organizational rule. Everyone wants to say that was Joe Girardi, the health freak. The diet does not come from me. It comes from the trainers and the coaches and the strength coach and the doctors and Mr. Cashman. Do I put chocolate Kisses in my mouth? Yes, I do.”
Girardi also said that once in a while, he’d see players sneaking food not prescribed by the diet — I remember Mussina finding a few jelly doughnuts in Detroit — and he never blew the whistle on anyone for that.
http://bombersbeat.mlblogs.com/
————————————–
Everyone owes Joe an apology for calling him a militant.
“” If you cant get this pressure shot in, theres a one way Britton (ticket)to Scranton with your name on it.” ”
SoS – hahaha, this reminds me of a 2 or 3 yr old Moose quote that was recently published all over the place when he sounded off about the Torre book. Something to the effect of, “We have too many pitchers on the 15 day Pavano.”
So in the world of Yankee vernacular,
Pavano = disabled list
Britton = ticket to Scranton
can anyone think of any others to add to the list?
Shelley Duncan = sore elbow?
Joba = fist pump?
Yankees having fun ? who woulda thunk it
Sad that Cashman tried to hide behind Girardi and allowed his manager to take all those bullets in the media for being a control freak and dictator, when it wasn’t even his rules.
And manager’s should decide the team rules, not the GM, trainers, etc.
wow, is joba really the shortest guy on the pitching staff?
them’s some big boys there.
Is it just me or does Pettitte look bigger than Joba?
Great! Now if they don’t win #27 it will all be blamed on a less than serious Girardi approach to spring training, can’t win.
i meant in the rotation
Alco–
Maybe Torre was right in his book when he said Cashman had changed. Torre was right about ARod and he appears to be right about Cashman.
Torre is the new Jose Canseco… everyone tried to slam him and dismiss him, when in reality, his perspective was 100% accurate.
Utility Man -
No problem. I sure wish it HAD been me!
Maybe one of these years….
BBB,
Igawas(shades)
Wanger(sinker)
C(will be the new K for strike outs)
Canoed(first pitch swinging)
Jeter(Maxim changing its name to that)
Mo Jo(Riveras cutter)
“wow, is joba really the shortest guy on the pitching staff?”
And he’s 6’2 not short at all.
“Everyone owes Joe Girardi an apology for calling him a militant”
anyone who criticized Girardi or called him a militant, over a few candy machines/candy bars, is an idiot anyway.
In the last pic… Burnett looks like he is in deep thought in observing Mariano, trying to take mental notes of his greatness lol
JOba is the shortest listed pitcher on the starting staff at 6-2
AJ looks like he wants to kill Mo in the last pic, lol. He’d better not because Mo will be saving a lot of games for the guy….. Molina’s giving AJ tips on how to line up his next shot – it’s obvious they work well together. Molina as AJ’s personal catcher -anyone for it? LOL
Anybody have any clue what brand tee AJ is wearing?
Is Joba even done growing yet. Must not be!
I’d say that AJ and Joba would fit best with Molina
Posada has experience catching Wang/Andy, so its no problem there. Posada has been CC’s primary catcher this spring anyway, so that looks like a pairing as well.
I love AJ’s wardrobe… he needs to ditch the hat though and spike his hair up.
This is why baseball is still the greatest sport to me. If this was a football team, most people could identify about 4 or 5 players per team in their street clothes. But everybody can identify the bullpen pitchers, bench players, and even some minor leaguers as well as the stars.
AJ has a cue ball in his left hand. So it must be before the break.
So i was glancing at what some of the ladies in the Oscars were wearing and i was hoping that this year would be different. With these tough econimic times we’re having. With the job loses and forclosures. I was hoping that for the first time the Actors going to the Oscars would all agree on wearing clothes from our not so fancy places like Wallmart,Kmart,Target etc.and use the other money to helping the people in need. I believe Michelle Obama shops at some of those places. If she can do it, why cant they for a change. Again, just to send a message for this year. Thoughts?
Anyone notice how similar Joba looks to Fred Durst?
Can someone w espn insider post the arod story thats running on their front page please.
Natalie Portman could wear a garbage bag and paper clip earings, and it would make no difference 2 me!
SoS,
Did you see Miley Cyrus? I think it’s cool that she wanted to go ‘off the rack’. But jeez, did she have to go to the north pole to do it? Her dress looked like a f’in christmas tree.
So excited about AJ. I think the dude is going to thrive here if he stays on the mound.
Just got home from work. The fascist IT people blocked the blog, but I read about the pool tournament on the yankees.com site. I think it’s great idea, and it seems Joe is serious about making some changes this year. Bless him! It seems like the guys loved it, and it buys you some good will for the long season. If Joe turns out as successful as Tom Coughlin the Yankees will be lucky indeed.
It was a welcome change from the PEDs scandal that us fans have had to deal with.
Go Yankees!
i always feared the IT people would block this blog one day. then i noticed the folks i work for sponsor this blog, so i’m guessing it’s staying.
“Natalie Portman could wear a garbage bag and paper clip earings, and it would make no difference 2 me!”
I feel the same way about Biel. Im looking at the grades and they gave her an F! She would get an A- wearing that garbage bag your talking about. Hell, if it wasnt a Hefty bag and something that rips or breaks. I would change that to an A+.
M,
Havnt seen her yet. Give me a link to it.
BTW,Portman got a D.
saucY,
So are you a bouncer or a dancer?
andrew brackman is ginormous.
SaucY, you work at stiletto and lace?
Pete a guy just mentioned the blog on WFAN.
Do u have Biel over Alba?
I apologize if this was posted earlier, but I am trying to catch up after a long day at work:
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com.....8;c_id=nyy
I wish I could have been there as the announcement was made – it’s like kids being told by the teacher that they are getting out of school early or that they are going on a field trip to an arcade. I think Joe made a lot of people happy today……
What kind of scale ranks theese beautiful women as D’s and F’s. My god, what do u have 2 look like 2 get an A??
Sos, I realiz you’re kidding, but, have you seen Cano’s numbers on the first pitch (.357) 1-0 count (.342) and 2-0 count (.373)? I’d just as soon that he wales away early in the count. The deeper into the count he gets, the worse the numbers are…by a lot.
Yes,Beil(JUNK IN THE TRUNK)over Alba.
Yes,Beil(JUNK IN THE TRUNK)over Alba.
http://www.hollywoodgrind.com/.....car-dress/
Nicole Kidman was elegant as usual. (ahem, Sean Penn. Get a clue on what’s elegant)
guess i walked right into that one…
Biel didn’t look good last night. Here’s pics from the Vanity Fair party of lots of people.
http://www.wireimage.com/ItemL.....038;nbc1=1
Jessica Beil over Alba anyday of the week
But Jeter dated both, he didn’t have to pick just one lol
saucy,
How do you have time to read this blog with all the Silletto eye candy at work?
GB7,
Amazing stuff! All i keep remembering is men on and the pitcher is wild,Cano swings at the first pitch and grounds out weekly to second base. What adjustments was he working at then in the offseason to improve his hitting? Hell with those numbers, I would be telling him to have more of a sense of urgency to make contact.
I’m not a big fan of Biel’s enhanced…uh…teeth.
Aniston looked good… Michael Kay would be proud
“Canoed(first pitch swinging)
Jeter(Maxim changing its name to that)”
My favorites!
Alba > Biel
Anniston > Minka
Pete > Kim Jones
haha.
Biel is a bit of a butterface compared to Alba imo. Alba over Biel by a wide margin for me.
also,
“Aniston looked good… Michael Kay would be proud”
ugh, no wonder I hate Michael Kay. Team Jolie all the way! I was so bummed she didnt win Best Actress but she looked gorgeous as always…much better than Jen (also as always)!
UtilityMan,
So you’re confusing me and Doreen? That’s kindof hard to do – she’s the nice one.
Yes, I’m going again this year – I’ll be there Thursday through the USA game.
In terms of Jeter’s women (on a scale relative to all his exes) Minka is probably about a 5 or a 6. Alba is way hotter than her.
BBB,
Sorry, but Jolie loses points for enhanced lips, weird stuff with brother, and being a homewrecker.
But, she was very cool in “Wanted”.
anyway, back to baseball….this has probably already been discussed in here, but I’m watching MLB Network’s Yankees Spring Training preview and the stupidity is making my head hurt already. They spent at least 5 minutes on the Joba in the bullpen garbage. And said he was fastball/curve when coming out of the pen, nothing about his slider??
sigh. Bruney really has the weight of the world on his shoulders. we need him to be effective enough this year to put this idiotic chatter to a merciful end.
and, wait, oh lord….Dan Plesiac just called Bobby Abreu a good defender in right field. Word for word. Time to switch to 90s sitcom reruns. You know, shows made in years when Abreu might have actually been a lg. avg. fielder….
Something about Biel annoys me… I can’t put my finger on exactly what.
Alba on the otherhand, is flawless
What’s wrong with Girardi’s hat?
“I’m not a big fan of Biel’s enhanced…uh…teeth.”
Im sorry but i think a mans opinion trumps in this arguement. I say Biel all the way.
Women with enhanced teeth
Beyonce
Biel
Jlo
I saw Cyrus dress, it looks like something you can play the she loves, she loves me not on.
Jolie is becoming a bit bony if you ask me. She needs to get back to eating some carbs.
“Anyone notice how similar Joba looks to Fred Durst?”
ACK, MY EYES!!! lol, the comparison of one of my most beloved ‘celebrities’ to my all-time most hated…hurt my soul a little bit!
Actually, I’ve always thought Hank Blalock slightly resembled The Man Who Ruined Modern Metal. And I’ve always loathed him for it!
Knicks are close to signing some guy named Cheikh Samb
That move should put them over the top
Those pictures are great. But don’t you think that if Joe really, really, wanted to get on the players good side he should have been some Hooters’ Girls playing pool.
Speaking of Fred Durst, there was a blurb somewhere that him and Wes Borland have reconciled and Limp Bizkit is coming back
oh my…
the boys definitely look hot in regular clothes.
thanks for the pics Pete! love the thread title.
The 07′ champ Giants did this but with bowling. Maybe that’s a good sign for # 27.
Teixeiramvp – I mentioned yesterday that there were parallels between Couglin and Girardi insofar as connecting with the players. Good observation.
How do you predict the Yankees are going to be tied for 2nd? Why did they use the B-squad to cover the Yankees training game?
“As great as Rivera was today in the pool hall, and it’s amazing what he did..
he has accomplished nothing in comparison to what he accomplished in the pool hall before 2001″.
Mike Mussina
Man, they are shooting pool at Peabody’s! What the f! I moved from Tampa less than a year ago, they have the World Series, Super Bowl, and now the Yankees are shooting pool at a bar I use to go to all the time! Someone hates me
what?!!
90+ posts and only 1 Igawa joke?
What’s this world coming to now that Pavano is gone?
http://www.wfan.com/pages/3902.....2095#imgXR
Sorry if this has been posted -
Love the Po/AJ pic, but I love any pic with AJ,lol.
LOL at Damon/Tex!
Alba > Biel
Minka >>> Aniston
Jolie >>>>>>>>> Aniston
Aniston loses major points for still being hung up on a relationship that ended FOUR years ago.
This is all the proof I need that I read this blog too much…when I heard about today’s events, my first thought was that Pete would pull the line from Bruce’s Rosalita for a blog posting.
Yup…midseason form.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_9VI9Dswhw
Yougotta have Faith – thanks for posting that link!

saucy,
How do you have time to read this blog with all the Silletto eye candy at work?
GB7,
Amazing stuff! All i keep remembering is men on and the pitcher is wild,Cano swings at the first pitch and grounds out weekly to second base. What adjustments was he working at then in the offseason to improve his hitting? Hell with those numbers, I would be telling him to have more of a sense of urgency to make contact.
————————————————————
I meant to mention that those were career numbers and not 2008. Those were well below his career….first pitch (.290), 1-0 (.293) and 2-0 (.250). I know he had more than a few ugly at bats, but, he also had a lot of rockets that were flagged down. Not sure if the off-season was because he didn’t take pitches, or, because it was bad luck.
There’s actually a really short poem that I think Bruce may have ripped off. It has an epigram that says “The Pool Players. Seven at the Golden Shovel.”
We real cool. We
Left school. We
Lurk late. We
Strike straight. We
Sing sin. We
Thin gin. We
Jazz June. We
Die soon.
I don’t know why I felt compelled to share that, but there you have it.
not exactly my sweet lord/she’s so fine is it?
I don’t think Bruce is questioning the validity of his existence the same way the the protagonists in We Real Cool are questioning theirs. Bruce is celebrating his existence.
Bruce is unbelievably overrated. Never understood his appeal at all.
Uh oh Joe talking in the third person.
Teixeira on the worst pool player: “There were plenty of bad ones. Brian Bruney takes the cake today as the worst pool player on the team. He’ll take the heat for that one.”
NickSwisher today was amazing! We all went to play pool and it was so much fun. What a great idea. Andy and Mo are the champs
LOL CC is going fishing tomorrow for the YES Network
I’m just now watching the last inning of Ken Burns’ Baseball that was broadcast on MLBN this past Thursday, and my wife DVR’d it for me because I couldn’t make it home in time…It’s starting off with the demolition of Ebbets Field, February 23, 1960…Forty-nine years ago today.
I grew up in Brooklyn and my father used to worship the Dodgers. It must have killed him to have to take my brother and me to Yankee Stadium in the 60s. Right now I am overcome with memories.
Yankees playing pool while others are getting prepared. How typical for such arrogant turds. Apparently, Girardi and his FO believe the season’s already won.
This season is going to be a hoot. 3rd or 4th, take your pick. It will become sensational TV.
jennifer you beat me to it! lol i love nick swisher’s twitter its so much fun to read everyday.
bdog375 if you’re still around, or anyone who’s been to spring training. I’m still trying to cobble together a trip to Tampa. Can you tell me if there are any areas I should stay away from, in terms of staying in the Tampa area? Are there any areas that aren’t very safe? How about St. Petersberg? Am I better off staying around there?
Thanks in advance. Never having been there before, I don’t want to have to pay through the nose, but I don’t want to stay in any crime-ridden or flea bag area either in order to save a few bucks.
trish, why don’t you read Pete’s posts on going to ST in Tampa? I found them really helpful last year when we went.
I can personally vouch for the Spring Hill Suites and Embassy Suites.
Joe, thanks for that info! Not to sound real dumb, but where are Pete’s comments about going to ST?
Trisha-
Check out tripadvisor.com for reviews on hotels. Has a link to cheap rates also.
Trisha
We stayed in Clearwater a few years ago when we went. Commute to Steinbrenner Field wasn’t bad and the Phillies, Tigers and Jays Stadiums were also near by. It was also nice to be able to hit the beach either before or after games.
Thanks Ytrader!

Thanks pat. I’ll check clearwater also!

Trisha,
I stayed at the Mainsail Suites last year which is good if you’re going with 2-3 people. Think corporate apartments. It’s close to the airport and the Yanks complex. There is not much going on around there except a lot of strip malls. Ybor city downtown is where you go out at night. If I went again I would try and stay around that area as it was expensive to cab it there and back.
St Pete is far and with lots of traffic to and fro. There is the biggest Dali museum outside of Europe there.
You must rent a car in Tampa. There is no other way.
Yeow guys, thanks! And thanks DT. I have to be honest with you. All the legwork really takes a lot of the joy out of this. (Since I am going to go to Atlanta after Tampa, I really have to watch what I spend in Tampa.) On the other hand, planning this kind of trip one week in advance of going isn’t the smartest way to do business.
“Yankees playing pool while others are getting prepared. How typical for such arrogant turds. Apparently, Girardi and his FO believe the season’s already won.”

Arod – all the time:
Henry Ford once said:
“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
Somehow, you are the kind of person that misses the point of the “road trip for a pool tournament”.
Joba is so studly
Can’t believe nobody has asked but were they drinking? Looks like Brackman could be holding a beer?
“Aniston loses major points for still being hung up on a relationship that ended FOUR years ago.”
Do you lose any points for knowing this? Rodg8
Sorry all, I can’t help but feel this pool holiday move by Girardi is somethong straight out of the “Office.” I can just see Girarsi as Michael Scott, Johnny Damon as Dwight Schrute, Derek Jeter as Jim and ARod as Angela. All rolling their eyes behind their boss’ back and saying “How lame!”
“Teixeira and A-Rod were teamed up, and, “Alex and I got ousted early,’’ Teixeira said. But when new partners were drawn up, Tex and Robby Cano were paired and made it to the ‘Sweet 16.’ Who was the worst pool player? “Brian Bruney takes the cake,’’ Teixeira said. “He’ll take the heat for that one.’’ ”
http://njmg.typepad.com/yankee.....again.html
Brackman is a little to close to Wang’s ass.
Oh those guys on MLB – Dan Plesac: Joe Crede REALLY bumps the Twins up… sheesh.
I’m LMAO @ the fact that Phil Coke already has bloggers calling themselves his future wife. *coughyankeehottiecough*
I taped Prime 9 tonight – Greatest All-Star Moments and Players who should be in the HOF but aren’t (only those eligible – thus, no Jackson or Rose)…..
From what I saw, here’s a partial list:
All Star Games:
Bo Jackson (forget what year)
Rose/Fosse (I’m too young to have seen that, but that makes me sick. People use that incident to glorify Rose’s hustle, but ruining someone’s career in a meaningless game is hardly something to be proud of).
HOF:
Luis Tiant
Ron Santo
Bert Blyleven
Mark McGwire (he’s #2)
Andre Dawson
That’s all I caught – food for thought, though.
the twins were staring at a black hole at third base, but unless crede circa 2006 shows up, hes not that big of an improvement
saucy -
lmao. Fair point.
LOL, rodg.
Jennifer’s not hung up on Brad. She’s just pissed (and rightfully so) that Angelina said in a magazine that she wants her kids to watch Mr&Mrs Smith when they grow up so that they can see when their mommy & daddy fell in love. How smutty of Angelina. But who did she think she was fooling? “We were just friiieeendds.”
That is awesome. Now I am convinced that the Yanks will win the World Series or at least the Super Bowl.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....r_embedded
i saw this video earlier and den i saw it again on riverave
these pics are awesome great to see them having a good time
Brad Pitt was at that Yankees/Mariners game in 07 that Hughes started in September… I was there.
Devin Harris with a spectacular buzzer beater:
http://espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=290223017
It’s good to see the Yankees chilling off the field as a team. I think they have been somewhat fractured in the recent past, in terms of their clubhouse I guess. While baseball is extremely individual performance driven and teams can win it all with some questionable characters/relationships (Manny?), team chemistry and the guys simply liking each other can really go a long way. It seems like this version of the Yankees might be closer knit than in the past few seasons. You just want teammates to be pulling for each other.
So who saw that Devin Harris PG today
larry hughes booed in his 1st home game lol
no comment on Larry Myth
What they needed is a barfight for team unity. The Yanks vs a bunch of florida rednecks.
Seriously great idea by Joe. Wonder if the mainstream sports media will even write a blurb about it. The Yankees getting along is their worst nightmare. What will they write about without Yankee drama? Heyman and Gammons can only write so many Sox fluff pieces in a season.
“LOL CC is going fishing tomorrow for the YES Network”
Wow the media is gonna love this guy.
Is it just me or does Pettitte look bigger than Joba?
It’s hard to detect, I’ll need a urine sample to be sure.
in the end, the cheaters win and baseball fans lose
http://www.newsday.com/sports/.....224.column
Marc’s right, a bar fight would have been great for team unity!
It was the cheaters who helped bring baseball back. The fans knew what was going on just like the owners, players, and media did.
That’s why I’m tired of the sanctimonious BS by all parties who want to draw and quarter those who did cheat.
yeah, and stupid me, i just hate the cheaters
they tried fighting the rays last year. how’d that work out?
it wasnt arod’s fault, selig filled the needle, ozra held him down and and fehr injected him.
yeah, its true. arod had no choice but to take steroids. its everybody else’s fault.
Selig didn’t seem to mind too much about steroids when the fans started coming back in record numbers in 1998 and guys like Rick Helling was telling people for several years that the problem was rampant around the game.
Nope, Selig only cared when the heat was on him when Congress stuck their noses in this after the Canseco book.
selig shot arod up?
did he shoot up bonds too?
it all got started when w shot up canseco….in dealy plaza on the grassy knoll. the players who used were all forced to
Drop the sanctimony. It’s moronic. And stick to one name.
Everybody is at fault for the entire era – not just A-Rod. The players, coaches, managers, owners, media – and yes, the fans.
Who in the world didn’t know McGwire was on something during the 1998 season?
How about Bonds in 2001?
Give me a break. Either people knew what was going on and didn’t care or they were too stupid to find their arses with both hands because it was obvious.
But you go ahead and stick your head into the clouds if you wish.
BTW, it’s safe to say that you weren’t an A-Rod fan before this revelation so you’re not going to change your mind about him now.
“they were too stupid to find their arses with both hands ”
so thats why they couldnt shoot themselves up and they needed selig to do it for them?
so i guess jeter was just too stupid to know he should have been juicing the whole time.
i always said that guy was an idiot.
Whatever you say, dude.
My IQ has plummeted 20 points in the last 20 minutes just reading your comments.
did selig shoot up arod in 2007? (i know, it wasnt his fault, though)
go read the definition of sanctimony, then reread your comments guisseppe
Are you guys really that dense? No one is suggesting ARod is blameless for what he did to himself and that game. The completely accurate point being made by Giuseppe is that everyone in the game shares the blame for the steroid era. If Commissioner for Life Baby Doc Selig had publicly denounced McGuire for using Andro in 1998 steroid use would have been on the way out.
If the media had investigated it thoroughly instead of lambasting the guy who noticed the Andro things would have changed. Had “clean” players demanded their union crack down on “dirty” players things would have changed. Had owners not lavished riches on one-dimensional muscle heads who hit homers things would have changed.
Players have tried everything imaginable to “get an edge” for as long as there has been sports and they always will. Some of us accept that reality and put PEDs in their proper place with pep pills and so on. Others like to live in a make believe world where the PEDs are the only tarnish on a practically perfect game.
Can we just move on?
baby doc shot up arod?
As long as the people at the ballpark were having a good time, enjoying the game, how were the cheated? If you only watch the game to see records broken, then, okay, maybe the records aren’t “pure.” I’m not saying PEDs are okay; what I’m saying is the players cheat themselves and their co-players more than anyone else.
all i want to know is that since its not arod’s fault on here the he used ped’s, then who held him down and who shot him up?
and all i get is an oliver stone type drama about the forces at work and blah blah blah.
cause if nobody was holding him down and injecting him, then i dont see where else the blame can lie.
is that sanctimony?
ARod is to blame for ARod; he is not the only player ever to have used PEDs. What he is right now is the current face of the problem.
Of course it comes down to individual players making their individual decisions to use or not to use PEDs. But if their union and MLB had been more proactive, the risk connected to their choice may not have been worth taking the chance.
And as long as the money is rolling in, and the fans are coming out to the games, and the sport is financially sound, what is the motivation for “cleaning it up?” The only time there is a huge uproar is when a particular player is caught up in the story. Otherwise it is a dull buzz in the background.
Plus Americans are notorious for saying they feel one way but showing by their actions (the way they spend their money) that they don’t really care. It’s not a perfect world.
ok arod is to blame, thank you. then you gotta go all oliver stone like everybody else on here.
What Oliver Stone? No conspiracy, but there is a bigger picture here. And ARod is NOT to blame for the ENTIRE steroid problem. That’s short-sighted and really just silly and it’s not what I said.
i didnt say anythin abou the entire steroid problem, you did. i said who shot up arod.

I’m LMAO @ the fact that Phil Coke already has bloggers calling themselves his future wife. coughyankeehottiecough
First off its future EX wife, secondly its a joke. I detect a little jealousy there, you want him raymagnetic?
Well at least it looks like the clubhouse is 90% Cancer free, with the exception of Aroid of course.
fight fight fight!
(i noticed the “ex” and thought it was funny)
Based on these photos and the one from ARod’s press conference, I conclude that the Yankee players wear some ugly graphic T-shirts.
LOL I noticed that too. I bet it is also because those companies probably ship them freebies so they can be seen wearing it. In my opinion anyone in their mid 30′s should be forbidden to wear a graphic tee (not that I’m thrilled about ANYONE wearing them, there shiteous.)
Oh Miley….My heart bleeds for your achey breaky heart!!!
That certainly is Peabody’s bar and grill by USF. In the one picture you can see the big ” P ” on the wall. How would you like to be the person behind the counter just hanging out with the New York Yankees. Go NY 2010 #28
