The Babe settles in across the street

Peter Abraham
February

Via the AP, here are a couple of shots of the new Monument Park. They moved the Babe Ruth monument into place today.

This is what it says:

GEORGE HERMAN “BABE” RUTH
1895-1948
A GREAT BALL PLAYER
A GREAT MAN
A GREAT AMERICAN

I’m really looking to getting a look at the new Monument Park. It’s truly one of the coolest places in all of sports.

Pat M — What’s the name of that joint for all you can eat oysters? I drive down to Florida a couple of times a year and wouldn’t mind a good lunch someplace on the way.

Cant argue with that, the main reason why my screen name means Sultan of Swat.

    Pete,
Are they going to put the monuments in the same order as they were in Old Yankee Stadium?

  8. Michael Kei (Igawa)

In b4 “Traber is a Sock”

  9. DT

If Babe Ruth were playing today, the media would eat him alive.

Of course, he’d be 114 so maybe they’d cut him some slack.

Bobmac – Is the SF Examiner really closing? Maybe I’m really just a 20th century guy, but I really like holding and reading a newspaper in my hands. I guess is is a brave new world.

Ohhhh….so that’s what that means? Me and my dirty mind. Being in the military for so long, I was thinking it meant something else.

    Exactly!
    well hopefully not exactly.

It hurts less when Traber is giving up runs in a Sox uniform.

  16. SRSI

Saw the pictures and started wondering how much room they left in the new monument park for the future.

Who do you think will make it out there from the Championship teams of the 90’s? Plaques? Anyone get a monument? Discuss…

Yeah Joe,they are trying to sell it but there most likely won’t be any takers. The NYT is trying to sell its piece of the Boston Globe and that will be real tough.I’m with you on having a real newspaper but the whole industry is on the rocks.

Not surprised GB. Glad we got that cleared up.

So who’s your grandkids favorite sesame street character?
When i was a kid it was the cookie monster. My kids growing up loved Elmo. Damn Elmo and that expensive price tag on Elmo toys. They always needed batteries shortly after buying them as well. Cant tell a little one wait till i go to the store again. Glad those days are over. Now its Star Wars toys.

They love all of them except Count Count. I always wanted to go where ever “Elmo” and “Barney” were at and just beat the crap out of them. I always thought those two were a bit strange, anyway. I will admit that I loved the Muppet Show, though.

“Saw the pictures and started wondering how much room they left in the new monument park for the future.”

If they ran out of room, they would probably put the monuments right in front of the seats and charge extra to sit there. If they can place a restaurante in a spot where it takes away from fans seeing baseball. Then we probably have room for all the Yankees players in the 90’s.

    IMO
    Rivera
    Jeter
    Williams

“I always wanted to go where ever “Elmo” and “Barney” were at and just beat the crap out of them.”

Thats pretty funny. I would think you liked watching the movie 9 months with Hugh Grant, Robin Williams and Tom Arnold. Where Tom and Hugh beat up Barney.

  24. GreenBeret7

Yeah, I think I saw that. The dinosaur stole those scenes.
