Yankees lose by a safety, 13-11

Peter Abraham

On a windy day in Sarasota, the Yankee lost 13-11. There were eight home runs, maybe more. I stopped keeping score when we went to the clubhouse. The Reds scored in every inning but the second.

Two injury updates:

· Jesus Montero (strained right groin) was injured sliding to track down a passed ball. Joe Girardi said it seemed like a “moderate” strain. Given his status and youth, they’ll be cautious bringing him back.

· Jon Albaladejo caught a ball off the back of his left leg near the ankle and has a bruise. He’s day-to-day.

Seems like the 2008 reg season pitching staff is out there

  2. Betsy

Thanks for the update, Pete – the injuries could have been worse, that’s for sure.

  3. Betsy

I’ll be interested to see what Joe has to say about the horror show out there…….

  4. Erik A

Thanks for the injury updates, I hope everything’s alright with those two.

    Pete –

minor point, and I may have missed this, but any word on Humberto Sanchez?

He’s the only pitcher in camp that hasn’t pitched about which I don’t know. Others are the top 4 starters not yet getting going, guys with physical issues (Mitre, Johnson, Edwar), and Mo – biding his time in rehab but he usually starts late in camp anyway.

  6. Erik A

Good point, Betsy – he’d better not still have that annoying habit of understating injuries. =P

  7. crawdaddie

Sanchez has a flexor issue of some kind.

    PETER!

Do you have any idea on who will be pitching for the Yankees on Tuesday against Team USA, given their current rotation schedule? (just a guess…?)

    Thanks so much!!!!!!

tHANK god the game wasnt on tv and thank god we re-signed andy. The young pitchers seem to be struggling pretty bad. Its still early though. No reason to think tomko will be the long man ……. yet.

  10. Soul

dave – Hughes and Kennedy actually have been the only pitchers who have pitched well so far

It’s the relievers and long men who are struggling

PAT M, I’ll try answering the rest of the Coleman/Martin question for the third time. Martin was traded to KC with W0-0dy Held and Ralph Terry for Ryne Duran and Harry (Suitcase) Simpson
Filters were trapping message for whatever reason. I’m guessing it was Held’s first name.

i meant the young relievers but i dont really think kennedy or hughes would have been our fifth starter to start the season. I think aceves would have taken that spot in april unless he did terrible in spring.

Anybody have an idea of how much playing time is lost for the Yanks playing in the WBC?

  15. William Buckner

    Pel,
depending on how far they go, as much as 3 weeks

  16. Lambchop Louie

Gotta love it when somebody says a player is listed day to day. Isn’t everybody ?

  17. geO.

why does the MLB Network say Jose Montero instead of Jesus?

  18. Abuchawo

Does anyone care about Montero? Uh-oh.
