Rob Butcher, the PR guy for Team USA, e-mailed this photo tonight.

It’s Joe Girardi, circa 1985, when he played for the U.S. collegiate national team.

  20. jennifer March 2nd, 2009 at 10:12 pm

wow those are great pictures!! Can’t wait to set foot in the new stadium!

  21. Stephen March 2nd, 2009 at 10:15 pm

I’m heartbroken…are those Pepsi logos in the new stadium? The Yankees are a Coke team! Leave the other soda to the other team!

  22. RGR March 2nd, 2009 at 10:16 pm

Joe Girardi, with that hair looks like he was a lost

    Joe-ness Brother

  23. Ham Fighters March 2nd, 2009 at 10:17 pm

stephen, you do know that pepsi is a new york company and coke is an atlanta company dont u?

  24. Stephen March 2nd, 2009 at 10:21 pm

    Ham,

Sure. And I also know that I hate the taste of Pepsi!

    ;)

  25. Zell March 2nd, 2009 at 10:28 pm

I like the pepsi logos, but I’m mad that they needed to put three in a row. is that needed?

    Kevin

  26. J March 2nd, 2009 at 10:29 pm

That takes me back… reminds me of this all-time classic: http://www.checkoutmycards.com.....02/09F.jpg

  27. Sean Serritella March 2nd, 2009 at 10:33 pm

    Cool picture.

  28. Ham Fighters March 2nd, 2009 at 10:34 pm

no difference for me, im not much of a soda drinker anyway. im sure they take whoever holds up the most dollars, but you’d think pepsi would be willing to fork over the most dollars.

  29. gayle March 2nd, 2009 at 10:38 pm

Looks like no more Earth Wind and Fire for the G-men ward signs with Bucs

  35. Brandon Witnessed Dwayne Wade pull an MJ March 2nd, 2009 at 11:30 pm

‘Is Wade pulling an MJ tonight/’

LeBron had 42 pts 4 asst 4 steals 8 rebounds
41 pts 9 asst 7 steals 7 rebounds srsly if he ever had a right wing man and a competent coach he’s the league MVP hands down. That was a hell of a game and me being a Knicks fan can’t believe this stat Dwayne Wade has shot over 50% in his last 7 games, they double him he still does it like LeBron only better.

  36. Betsy March 2nd, 2009 at 11:34 pm

Wall, meet Nick, Nick, meet wall, lol. I guess Swish has never met a wall he didn’t like – that was a neat little article on NJ.com – the guy is doing a good job with the blog. I will say that Jorge has to think some more – I’m glad he caught himself, but boy, for someone who is recovering from surgery, he’s sure not careful, lol.

Cut pic of Joe – he looks exactly the same, with just a tad more hair. I sure hope no one ever digs up an old pic of me and post it on the internet – my hair is from the 80′s and my eyeglasses are cokebottles, lol.

I always get giddy reading this stuff……..However, that is really spooky about fans following him home. It’s like stalking – fans are pathetic at times. Can these players please just enjoy a little private times? Sheesh

Katie Couric on Letterman… just finished recounting the A-Rod interview

  40. X-Mann March 3rd, 2009 at 12:11 am

yeah, I just turned it on

She was pretty gracious– said she had no reason to doubt ARod when she did the interview but would still like to sit down with him again because she thinks there are still some inconsistencies with what he has said with the information that has come out.

Hey, it’s Sully, your non combative Red Sox fan.
Sorry I’ve been out of it.

I had a completely random thought tonight as I turned off that horrific Jimmy Fallon show:

Can you imagine how baseball history would have been different if on January 1973, George Steinbrenner and his group of investors did not buy the Yankees but instead bought their home town Cleveland Indians.

He keeps Gabe Paul as GM of the Indians and also keeps their core of players (including Chris Chambliss, Graig Nettles, Dick Tidrow and Oscar Gamble)

And then builds up the Indians team through shrewd trades and embracing free agency

An Indians dynasty would be as unlikely as an A’s dynasty… but they had one in Oakland.

Cleveland would have been a team of champions while the Yankees would have tip toed through free agency with penny pinching CBS running the team.

No doubt Steinbrenner would have fired and rehired Frank Robinson a bunch of times

And no doubt that ESPN would make a miniseries called “The Cleveland River is Burning.”

It’s just a strange thing that entered my cranium.
    And I’m not even high

  44. RustyJohn March 3rd, 2009 at 1:51 pm

Has Girardi’s neck always been wider than his head?
