Alex Rodriguez has an injury and could miss the WBC.

Derek Jeter was a hit as an opposing player yesterday. Even Dustin Pedroia loves the Captain.

Phil Hughes looked sharp. This notebook also has news from Mariano Rivera, A.J. Burnett and others.

Sam Borden has an interesting column about how A-Rod leaves even Dominicans conflicted.

nice, quiet camp now that the circus left.

I like that article by Sam, especially how it showed how everyone, not just Alex, seemed to get in a tizzy over who he played for. So people were critical no matter what? Interesting.

Have a fab day people! :)

“It is typical for Rodriguez. As it always seems to be with him, he represents a perfect dichotomy. Somehow, the most talented player in the world has come to stand for all that is right with Dominican baseball, while at the same time embodying all that is wrong with it, too.”

Hey, what about the Washington National’s scandal with the kickbacks young players had to pay to scouts. To me, that is much more of a black eye, extorting young men & boys, than someone doing something not good to his own body. Given all the other MLB teams with baseball academies in the DR, are the Nats the only one with some shady doings? I don’t buy that. Nor do I buy making Alex the punching bag for DR steroid use/misuse/abuse. It appears that there is intense pressure on players from there to better themselves and escape poverty, and that at times they cut corners by using easily obtainable substances that baseball only outlawed — with specific punishments — in 2004. I don’t defend Alex’s use of steroids, but there are a lot more rotten things in Denmark than just one fish.

just curious if Girardi had any comments about Jeter playing the whole game yesterday. I’ve read that “he wasn’t pleased” with it, but haven’t heard any direct quotes?

I’m assuming what they found was a subchondral cyst which is a tell tale sign of osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is your most common arthritis from wear and tear and over-use, especially when there is a stress in an area of a joint that is not equipped to handle it.

What concerns me is the next 9 years on his stay in the Bronx. If he’s got signs of arthritis in his hip now, it will get progressively worse. Hopefully, this MD will give him specific exercises to cut down on the amount and wear and tear and take the stress off the area of the hip that developed the cyst.

I know ARod works out like a beast on his lower body and his legs are tree trunks. He is going to have to change something if he is ever going to live up to this contract.
