Hey, what about the Washington National’s scandal with the kickbacks young players had to pay to scouts. To me, that is much more of a black eye, extorting young men & boys, than someone doing something not good to his own body. Given all the other MLB teams with baseball academies in the DR, are the Nats the only one with some shady doings? I don’t buy that. Nor do I buy making Alex the punching bag for DR steroid use/misuse/abuse. It appears that there is intense pressure on players from there to better themselves and escape poverty, and that at times they cut corners by using easily obtainable substances that baseball only outlawed — with specific punishments — in 2004. I don’t defend Alex’s use of steroids, but there are a lot more rotten things in Denmark than just one fish.
