I had a torn hip labrum that caused a cyst in my hip - I had the surgery at Special Surgery here in NYC. It was arthroscopic, I was put to sleep, it was a huge tear (Dr. uses it in classes) BUT, if they allowed me to I could have walked out of the hospital. I started PT on the 2nd day and basically was not only walking but doing everything within 2 weeks. True, I am not/was not a world class athlete but this is not bad news - at least not compared with what it could have been. I had the tear for a couple of years (which created the cyst) but felt much better following the surgery.
I don't think they are doing the right thing by having him wait and get PT (I tried that and the tear got bigger) but I didn't think they made a good decision with Jorge last year either.
Anyway, it will be very surprising if he doesn't get the surgery later on. They give cortisone for the "discomfort" which also causes cysts...

"What is most concerning is what Pete brought up…. why was this not checked out at the end of LAST season????"

Boston Dave - we've already discussed that one. It is NOT concerning when you think about the fact that a torn labrum can present without symptoms or with stiffness (like Girardi said about Arod where it was reported to him at the end of last season.)

Stiffness in a joint after a season of baseball isn't necessarily a reason to sound the alarms!

Don't look for problems where there aren't any.

I'm tellin' ya:
that guy from the Lotto commercial that bought the team and played 3rd base is available.

well, it's no stupider than the people talking about putting Swisher or Nady over there...

yeah ray,

both the Yanks and Sox have some injury risks.....let's see if the Rays stay healthy all year, they were pretty healthy most of the year, especially w/ their pitching

Fans of both the Sox and Yankees can point to the other team and maintain that it has major injury risks, but I honestly think both teams have some considerable health issues.

JD Drew is complaining of a sore back with spring training hardly underway. Penny is missing this week's start because of a tired shoulder. A tired shoulder in the first two weeks of spring training is not a good sign. Who knows how healthy Ortiz and Smoltz will be.

As for the Yankees, I would be concerned about Posada being healthy. Arod is said to be missing at least ten weeks. Sometimes 10 weeks turns into more weeks. Rivera has a lot of mileage on that arm. Will Burnett stay off the DL this year?
