Alex Rodriguez went to Colorado to get his hip examined. Joe Girardi said yesterday that the issue first came up last season. That being the case, why did they wait to send him to a specialist on March 4?

Mariano Rivera will throw in the bullpen today. This notebook also has news on Ian Kennedy, Hideki Matsui, Chien-Ming Wang and Dan Giese.

smelling fishier and fishier every day. 5 days to get an appointment? started having problems last year? no word after the exam?

sounds like arod’s ‘advisory team’ is running this show.

So no word on the rabid elk theory?

Is it odd that the Yanks, after knowing about this “injury” since last season, wait till now to send him to the doc?

Obviously they can’t be too happy with him. Is this just them flexing a bit?

How do we know Arod is in CO if there are no reporters covering him?

Shoot – why post the WBC score here? – I was going to watch the game when I get home (it’s being broadcast here at 7pm). Very irritating..

“Joe Girardi said yesterday that the issue first came up last season. That being the case, why did they wait to send him to a specialist on March 4?”

I’m going to take a guess at this one. Because all players have aches and pains during the season and there apparently didn’t seem to be any overarching need to send him but since the same ailment obviously cropped up in spring training they thought it might be prudent to check it out?

I think a VERY good guess is that if you truly believe your top-paid bread and butter player needs to be checked out, you have him checked out. As was the case right now.

“That being the case, why did they wait to send him to a specialist on March 4?”

Maybe because they thought it was a normal ache being that it was the end of the season and 162 games is a lot? Now that it is recurring the doctors know there is something wrong and hopefully will take care of it.

patrick and trisha, I hope you guys are right on why the Yankees waited.

I’ll admit my first thoughts were that this just seemed like a way to get him out of the WBC, despite the fact they’ve let him play/practice all through early spring training. i understand being careful with star players but if it hasn’t effected his play thus far and likely wont in the future they need to let him play. Otherwise he will be attacked as a quitter, even if it’s the Yanks that make the decision.

as far as Kennedy goes, I’m not going to read too much into this because it is just ST but his one bad inning yesterday was the same problem he had pitching in the majors. every game i saw him in he would be cruising and all of sudden have one terrible 3-4 run inning where he just couldn’t do anything right. he/the yankees need to figure out what’s causing that and find a way for him to get over it.
