We have a surplus of outfielders. Why not use the preseason to reacquaint Nady with third base? Maybe you still have Ransom start, but what would it hurt to let Nady play there a few spring-training games?

Teahen isn’t a starting 3B, he’s a part-time 3B, part time OF who is expensive depth for Kansas City but affordable depth for the Yankees. I’m not just looking at him for the first month, but as a guy who could let Alex DH against LHP who have pretty much owned Matsui since 2005. I have only advocated for him or Wigginton.

I completely agree that dealing for a full-time 3B would be a waste of assets. Teahen doesn’t fit that category.

Anyone suggesting trading for another STARTING 3rd basemen is CRAZY. If they want to get a utility guy, then that’s fine but trading for Teahan, Figgins, Beltre or any of those guys is just INSANE.

Sorry you think its lame when someone points out the absurdity of your points.Cody Ransom is a long way from Brosius

Brosius averaged 16 HR and 70 RBI with the Yanks. Cody Ransom has hit seven HR in his life. Sure they can survive with Ransom for a few weeks, but why would they? Acquiring a legit major leaguer at a reasonable price makes a helluvalot more sense than crossing our fingers and hope a career journeyman can suddenly become a productive player.

Cody Ransom, although he has potential, is really nothing more than a good edition to the bench. Here are a couple of options that I thought of that would make sense for the Yankees now that A-Rod is out.

1. Trade Matsui and Swisher/Nady for Adrian Beltre – Beltre is an All-Star 3rd baseman, meaning that it would not be necessary to move anyone to that position. On top of that, he’s a sure handed glove and 20+ HR hitter. When A-Rod returns, switch him and Beltre for DH, giving A-Rod less stress while rehabbing his hip.

Potential Lineup (Without A-Rod): Damon, Jeter, Tex, Beltre, Posada, Nady/Swisher, Cano, Ransom, Gardner.

Potential Lineup (With A-Rod): Damon, Jeter, Tex, A-Rod, Beltre, Posada, Nady/Swisher, Cano, Gardner.

2. Further establish pitching staff- If the Yankees are not willing to sign for another bat, we need to make sure that our bullpen is solidified. With that being said, Chad Cordero (27) who has saved 128 in 6 years is a free agent.

Making a trade makes no sense. The Yankees won a World Series with Charlie Hayes at third. They sure the hell can make it a month into this season with Ransom at third.

It was a whole different scenario for the AL East in 1996 and completely different circumstances. The Rays didn’t exist and Boston was a non-factor.

The Yanks also won in 2000, when Scott Brosious posted an OPS+ of 70. SEVENTY!

Chone Figgins has a career OPS/OPS+ of .740/96.
His defensive UZR ratings for LF/CF/RF are -6, -6.9, -6.6. Defensively, he is only above average at 3B. He is versatile and a good bench player and can fill in at 3B in a pinch. Last year his OPS was .685. You really want to PAY for a below average defensive CFer with a .700ish OPS?

His VORP at 3B last year was 4.7. And that is above REPLACEMENT (someone from AAA), not average. Forget about the OF.

If he were CHEAP, he would be OK to fill in for ARod, ONLY because he would then be a decent bench player. But this
guy is not a starter, and nobody you want to give up much for.

Scott Brosius hit .300 19 HR,98 RBI his first year with the Yankees. Ransom would need about 800 AB to hit 19 HR.

And what did he hit the next two seasons?
