Wrap-up (with Girardi audio)

The Yankees beat the Twins 5-1 this afternoon. Counting the games against Team USA and Team Canada, the pinstripes are 8-10-1 this spring. The Yankees have won three straight and five of six.

The good news today: Jorge Posada caught four innings and said his right shoulder felt fine. He’ll rest tomorrow, catch Tuesday, rest Wednesday and catch Thursday.

Joe Girardi said he thought today’s game was the best he has seen his team look so far. Here is the manager’s postgame interview:

CC Sabathia’s 5-year-old son, Carsten Charles III, was in the clubhouse. He was dressed head-to-toe in a Yankees uniform.

Meanwhile, once he got done pitching, Andy Pettitte had his crew on a back field working out. Josh (14), Jared (10) and Luke (3) were getting after it. Even Luke had spikes on.

“It’s like Andy was running a clinic,” Sabathia said.

It is positive news that Posada’s shoulder felt good, but lets allow him a few throws in game situations to assess whether his shoulder is truly healthy.

Short armed throws to second base during steal attempts, and quick throws to first while fielding bunts are far different on the arm then between inning throws to second base.

    Who has the bruised knee?

I didn’t catch who Girardi was talking about.

Where is the link for the audio? Or does my computer continue to be messed up? :(

  4. jennifer March 15th, 2009 at 4:13 pm

Darn :( I guess it is just me. I don’t know what happened to my computer. It seems ever since I uploaded adblock my computer is totally messed up!! UGH

Doug Bernier got blown up by a Twins runner breaking up a double play. Came away with a bruised knee

Lots of good tidbits – Jorge feeling “surprisingly good”..that’s the best news.

    I thought this was interesting:

*I should not go strictly off numbers in spring training in saying that Phil Hughes had a bad day yesterday. Cashman actually sounded excited about Hughes, not on the two home runs (though Bradenton is a home run hitter’s heaven), but the approach he took. Hughes is throwing lots of curveballs and changeups even when he might be able to get someone out more easily with a fastball. But he is supposed to be working on his CBs and changeups this spring, and he is doing that.
Said Cashman: “The thing I am liking about Phil right now is the process is going to get him better results in the long run.”
Last year, Cashman said Hughes prob. would have been more focused on results than process

CC’s son looks exactly like him – it’s nice in ST that the kids can hang around with their dads…..

so kids of players are allowed to come to the ballpark to visit their fathers?

  11. Dano March 15th, 2009 at 4:32 pm

    Any UK bloggers on here?

I subscribe to NASN, which has the odd Yanks game on but they show pretty much only the ones against Boston. I was wondering how anyone else over here gets to watch the games (IE do the online packages work over here in the UK)?

:( MY computer is still mess up. I guess I need to try uninstalling firefox and starting all over? This is so frustrating.

    Dano,

Try checking out mlb.com. You can pay $119 for the full season of all the games, audio & video. Or $19.95 a month. They archive the game within a couple of hours and there’s a great condensed game with all the action packed into 10 minutes.

    Highly recommend it.

Otherwise, you can try some P2P links.

    Chapman k’s Fukedome.

    did you see that curveball?

  17. Dano March 15th, 2009 at 4:55 pm

    thanks m.
a lot of the time these things don’t seem to work outside the US as they do in it. i’ll check it out.

  18. Brandon, 'Watching Jorge Vasquez in the WBC & Wade go MVP in the NBA' March 15th, 2009 at 4:56 pm

That’s a future pinstripe curveball

  19. Brandon, 'Watching Jorge Vasquez in the WBC & Wade go MVP in the NBA' March 15th, 2009 at 4:58 pm

I don’t care if they belt 15 on him, he’s coming to our minor leagues we’ll fix him.

  20. 4time March 15th, 2009 at 4:58 pm

Japan is legit… DiceK and Yu Darvish at the top of the rotation with that lineup is scary

  21. Brandon, 'Watching Jorge Vasquez in the WBC & Wade go MVP in the NBA' March 15th, 2009 at 4:59 pm

He’s a better fielder than El Duque too

  22. Drills March 15th, 2009 at 4:59 pm

Chapman reminds me of Brackman… gets hit around wayyyy too much for a guy with his caliber of stuff.

  23. Brandon, 'Watching Jorge Vasquez in the WBC & Wade go MVP in the NBA' March 15th, 2009 at 5:00 pm

    He’s 21 I don’t give a damn, we will fix that

  24. m March 15th, 2009 at 5:02 pm

    Dano,

Good luck with that. You would think it works, considering that they’re really pushing the WBC deal.

I’ve actually seen mlb.tv blackouts in the US with content only available to international subscribers.

Rooting for the Japanese, but not necessarily Dice-K.

  25. Nicholas March 15th, 2009 at 5:02 pm

Can’t wait till 2012 when we trot out Chapman-Betances-Joba with CC and Burnett coming out of the pen throwing gas.

  26. Betsy March 15th, 2009 at 5:05 pm

In response to Randy’s post from the previous thread – I’m not sure why it’s such a bad thing for Phil to be working in change-ups and cutters, along with his curve. Yesterday was his fourth outing, I believe -and it sounds like the only one where he was truly featuring these pitches (not that he didn’t use them on occasion in the other games…..

  27. Brandon, 'Watching Jorge Vasquez in the WBC & Wade go MVP in the NBA' March 15th, 2009 at 5:11 pm

‘Can’t wait till 2012 when we trot out Chapman-Betances-Joba with CC and Burnett coming out of the pen throwing gas.’

Chapman is rumored to defect soon. AJ in the pen in 12′ would be scary.

Damn Japan is starting to enforce thier will.

  28. trisha - As long as you're in pinstripes, Kei, I've got your back. March 15th, 2009 at 5:12 pm

Wow, is Team Cuba this bad or are they just playing bad today?

  29. trisha - As long as you're in pinstripes, Kei, I've got your back. March 15th, 2009 at 5:13 pm

Unlike Davey Johnson, the manager for Cuba at least gives his team a chance to win with pitching changes!

  30. Count March 15th, 2009 at 5:14 pm

Add Yu Darvish to the 2012 rotation if AJ goes to the pen

Or Brackman, Vizcaino, Banulous etc. could be there too

  31. m March 15th, 2009 at 5:14 pm

    trisha,

No. Japan is just that good! ;)

    Yakyuu!

  32. Brandon, 'Watching Jorge Vasquez in the WBC & Wade go MVP in the NBA' March 15th, 2009 at 5:14 pm

No infact it’s just that Japan is playing better. Cuba is a powerhouse, they’d smack any team but Japan is thier goliath.

  33. m March 15th, 2009 at 5:15 pm

    trisha,

Haha. The Japanese manager doesn’t have to deal with ‘garbage’.

    Just kidding!

  34. trisha - As long as you're in pinstripes, Kei, I've got your back. March 15th, 2009 at 5:25 pm

  35. jennifer March 15th, 2009 at 5:28 pm

Finally fixed, and I can view this page properly through firefox. I uninstalled and reinstalled my firewall. :)

m, I have a niece and nephew who are half Japanese. They are truly beautiful kids. But you want to talk about stereotypic genetic mutations? My sister met her husband when he played football for BU – He’s 6’5! My niece and nephew are both very tall kids (my sister is 5’8). My niece had a baby, and her husband, also very tall, is blonde haired and blue eyed. Well the baby has reddish hair and blue eyes. I have to tell you that it is really strange to see!

    :)

Hmmmm it’s always interesting to have a post get caught in the filter and try to figure out what word might have done it!

m, I had posted something to you so if something shows up with this same kind of info, it’s because the original post got caught in the censor and then let go!

I have a niece and nephew who are Japanese and Italian. My sister met her husband when he played football for BU. He’s 6’5 and built like a football player. That’s odd enough, right? I’m prejudiced of course but her kids are really beautiful. (Features wise they both favor the oriental.) And tall. My sister is 5’8. Well my niece just had a baby. Her husband also is very tall, and he is blonde haired and blue eyed. Her baby has blue eyes and reddish hair. I can’t tell you what a strange combo that is, but he is a beautiful little kid!

    :)

Okay I give up. I’m not going to bother trying to figure it out. I wrote a second post and it got caught up also.

“so kids of players are allowed to come to the ballpark to visit their fathers?”

It was staged and for publicity purposes only. That’s the only reason a player would have their kids there for publicity purpose only according to some sports writers in new york of course ;) double standards and hypocrisy at it’s best. ;)

Dano, I live in London & mlb.com’s TV service works fine for me. I have Sky broadband @ home, just the normal/minimum service (not super-high speed or anything special), transmitting from my lounge via wireless router upstairs to my office, & haven’t had any problems. During a live streamed game the video occasionally plays less smoothly than watching actual TV, but only for 10 seconds or so at a time. (For the previous 5 seasons I had Gameday Audio instead, as I was poorer, & it worked perfectly.) Good luck!
