Joba a bad influence on nation’s babies

Peter Abraham
March
17

Sadly, you knew this would happen. Joba Chamberlain’s terrible fist-pumping celebration has led to a generation of babies adopting his ways.

Check out these two photos. One is of 4-week old Akari, the daughter of one of our readers, Ansky. The other is of Joba.

As you can see, the baby is pumping her fist much like Joba. Just wait until Mike Francesa and Goose Gossage find out about this. Something has to be done.

Hey, Ansky, that is one cute kid. Congrats.

What a cutey! Congrats Ansky I’m glad to see the youngin’ already dressed for success :)

  2. Rishi

I so thought this was going to be a post about people naming their kids “Joba”…that would a be tough for a kid to live down!

  3. Uncle Ellsworth

    Rishi it’s better than “7″

  4. ANSKY

Thanks Pete … at least Joba hasn’t influenced her into sneaking down to the local tattoo parlor yet.

  5. Betsy

    What a cute baby……..awww

  6. Doreen

    Rishi -

    Me, too! (naming kids Joba)

    Ansky -

What a sweet picture. Best of everything with your little girl.

  7. Rishi

good lord – 7 is a number, not a name!!

Ansky – she is beautiful! Congratulations…

  8. Mark in Tampa

A pink Yankees jersey? I’ll bet it even has a name on the back! Obviously she is not a real fan! Just kidding, she is very cute. :)

  9. Benny Blanco

Pete you think you are so slick. You get us “arod apologist fans” revved up about arod’s photo and then you totally turn me into a sucker again by posting that beautiful pic of that adorable cutie pie. She is precious, your not pete. I hate you…lol just kidding.

  10. S.A.-The 2009 MLB season is almost here

What an adorable baby! Congrats Ansky!

  11. ANSKY

Thanks everyone … my brother is a Red Sox fan who raised his sons as such. I plan to raise my girl right though. ;)

  12. Garym(yanks and More)

What a cute pic, good luck Ansky, my babygirl is 11 weeks, it is a great thing.

  13. Ram On

Fantastic post, Pete. Wonderful and funny.

Congrats, Ansky. Much happiness to you and your family!

  14. pat

    Ansky

    Very cute. Thanks for sharing.

Encourage her to throw lefty, teach her a fastball and change-up and 20 years from now we can all say we saw how talented she was since she was a baby.

  15. NoYoureATowel

    What the hell is Ansky?

  16. Tom

That is one cute kid, I’m betting she gets her looks from her mother, ANSKY.

  17. kd

very cute kid ansky. i feel your pain about your brother, my sister married a red sox fan and that’s ruined thanksgiving ever since.

  18. raymagnetic

    Pete,

I don’t know why you HATE Joba so much but it’s sickening. This is such a non story but you of course have to make a big deal out of it.
I guess Joba is to be blamed for every fist pumper in the US right? I get it Joba’s pumps his fists, so what? If Papelbon pumped his fist this would be such a non story, but since it’s Joba’s that’s all we hear about.

Enough is enough you Joba hater.

  19. Jorge (México)

Ansky: Congrats on your beautiful girl. You made me remember when my son Jorge (now 21) and my daughter Natalia (now 18) were lying on their cradle, wearing baby Yankees pajamas. Now, of course, they still wear Yankees T-shirts, jerseys, jackets, caps and everything. They are die-hard Yankees fans. So, I’m glad to figure out that it worked. Surely the same will happen with lovely Akari.

And Pete, thanks a lot for the huge laugh.

  20. Al from BK

And on a baseball note Joba is starting to look like Joba so all the “Should traded him for Santana” people have gone away.

  21. Nick

Jobber is such an easy guy to root for. The guy has become an overnight celebrity.

Going to enjoy having him here for many years

  22. Jeff D

Cowherd has actually done a good job these past couple of days. He’s not as awful as he was in his 1st go-round on 1050

He is trying a little too hard to be New York-centric through.

  23. DarthArod

    What the hell is ansky?

There was a great MSG network commercial way back when the Yankees were broadcast on there. A bunch of guys are stuffed in the cab with letters painted on their chest. The cab driver looks back and asks “What is ANSKY?” They look at each other and reorganize into “YANKS”. From then on, they had a bunch of commercials known as the ANSKY guys.

  24. Lara08

Very cute. Congratulations. Lets do something about that pink. :)

  25. Yanksgal07

Absolutely adorable …oh and the baby’s cute too…haha. Seriously..Akari is just too darn cute..but…aren’t all Yankee fans … :o )

My daughter had an authentic Yankee Jacket …size 6 months and set her aunt back $45.00 bucks …25 years ago !! That was big money at the time for such a tiny jacket. I saved it for when she has her baby …good thing Yankee blue never goes out of style. She also has grown into a nutty Yankee fan like her Mom. Her father was a Met fan …no need to explain why we are divorced ..lol.

I raised her right tho’ ..pinstripes all the way.

    Go Yankees 2009 !!!

  26. ANSKY

Akari’s mom is from Tokyo and her grandad is a big Matsui / Yomiuri fan. We have to get her some of those threads too.

    Oh, DarthARod …

I think he knew about those commercials … he typed exactly what the taxi driver said. The Brooklyn accent is too tough to type. :)

  27. jennifer

AUHHHH too cute!! Wish you all the best.

  28. CB

Congrats Ansky. She’s beautiful. And well dressed… 4 weeks old – never too soon to adopt the pinstripes.

  29. jennifer

    Ansky

Ask her if Joba belongs in the pen or starting rotation. :)

  30. Jeet Skeet

great pic..but i just saw that AROD post and i didnt read any comments but Pete you get worse and worse with this AROD hatred every day. The guy isnt kissing himself in the mirror and thats pretty obvious. Just because that is what you do in your spare time but any way it just looks like he is about to go toe to toe with himself. Just like what boxers do at weigh-ins or in the ring before they fight..no kissing..just staring. Get a Life and stop dissing this guy

  31. rbj

    LOL! And congrats Ansky.

Sorry to hear about your brother. Couldn’t that be considered child abuse?

  32. saucY

    congrats ANSKY!!!

    adorable

  33. Nick in SF

    Congrats, Ansky!

  34. trisha - As long as you're in pinstripes, Kei, I've got your back.

    Ansky, she’s beautiful.

    :)

  35. EricS

Ansky, congrats – she is precious!

  36. m

    ANSKY-san,

Omedetoo Gozaimasu! Akachan wa totemo kawaii desu!

  37. DT

    Cute pic Ansky.

Better to have her emulate Joba hand-gestures than BlackJack McDowell.

  38. DT

    Cute pic Ansky.

Better to have her emulate Joba hand-gestures than Jack McDowell.

  39. Brandon, 'Watching Jorge Vasquez in the WBC & Wade go MVP in the NBA'

Some people will tell you that’s bush league & the baby needs a fastball in the back. :)

  40. Angel - A tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing

“Thanks everyone … my brother is a Red Sox fan who raised his sons as such.”

I bet family gatherings are interesting, lol.

    She’s gorgeous. Nicely done, Ansky.

  41. li

Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl. I bet she is smart, too.

  42. Lori

Ansky – In case you’re still checking this thread. Congratulations – she is absolutely adorable. Raise her well!

  43. Jermaine D'Twan Monroe-Gibbons

pwhaha Ansky!! WTH kinda name is that?!
who would torture their kid with that kinda name?
    HHAHAH

  44. o'jennifer

Um what happened to the game entry?

  45. Uncle Ellsworth

where do the game thread go?

  46. jack

    Is this the new gamethread?

  47. Jermaine D'Twan Monroe-Gibbons

    Is this the new STFU!!!

  48. Uncle Ellsworth

    jack

  49. trisha - As long as you're in pinstripes, Kei, I've got your back.

    Glad to see people here!

    Just in time too.

    Okay, new game.

  50. o'jennifer

hmmm strange, it is back, but there is no box to post.

  51. trisha - As long as you're in pinstripes, Kei, I've got your back.

Meanwhile the Yanks are killing Pittsburgh. Happy that Pitt has done well in ST. I don’t have to feel quite so bad.

  52. Peter Abraham

Sorry guys, some sort of technical glitch. Not sure what happened. Game thread works now.

  53. trisha - As long as you're in pinstripes, Kei, I've got your back.

yeah jen, I can’t get it to do anything.

  54. bodhisattva

    That baby is too cute.

  55. lymond shankenheim

Joba, Limbaugh. Same guy. One can pitch, at least in late relief. The other farts a lot.
