A few notes from the workout

Peter Abraham

Joe Girardi announced his lineup for tomorrow:

Jeter SS
Damon LF
Teixeira 1B
Matsui DH
Posada C
Cano 2B
Nady RF
Ransom 3B
Gardner CF

Joe said he gave the team a brief talk today that was mainly, “keep doing what you have been doing.”

Joba Chamberlain threw in a minor-league intrasquad game today in Tampa. His line:

5 innings, 3 hits, 1 earned run 3 walks, 5 strikeouts, 76 pitches / 50 strikes.

Girardi said he is waiting for Alex Rodriguez to return a message so he can find out how his rehab is progressing.

The team took a special train to Baltimore from Penn Station. “I had never been on a train before,” said Nick Swisher, who grew up in Ohio and played most of his career in California. “Pretty cool.”

The players were all trying on their new caps with the Yankee Stadium patch on the back.

I would have preffered if he had switched Nady and Posada. That way we dont have 2 righties back to back and we also dont have a lefty, switch, lefty, switch, lefty going

  2. Psyluk

Nick Swisher had never been on a train before?

You learn new things every single day :)

  3. Stephen

    Pete,
Does the team normally travel by train from New York to Baltimore? And to Boston too, for that matter?

  4. Brandon ( I Love Me Some Me), Clyde on Mike Taylor: "Round and round I go, where I stop nobody knows..."

Had this been Arod we’d all go crazy.

(please be advised, I can’t even look at it)

The first time I was on a train I was 17 and in Spain.

However, now I love trains and take them every chance I get!

The weather tomorrow appears iffy….seems like most of the rain will be in the morning / early afternoon. The game doesnt start til 4:05pm, and as of right now after 4:00 the chance of precipitation drops considerably each hour….by 7pm it’ll be a 10% chance of rain. I expect perhaps just a rain delay tomorrow if weather.com is anything to go by.

  7. Psyluk

It’s unusual for a ballplayer who travels so often to have never been on a single train before. But I guess these days all the team travel occurs by way of bus or plane.

  8. Ed H.

I love trains. It’s such a civilized way to travel. If only the food that they sell onboard tasted better …

Back in the ’50s all baseball team travel was by train. The announcers and writers traveled together.

  9. tampa yankee

I heard john rocker loves riding the subway.

  10. Betsy

I didn’t know Nick had never been on a train…well, there’s a first time for everything.

I would love to be a fly in the room as the players all tried on their new hats, trying to break them in, lol

It’s not a big deal, Betsy. Remember? This is a team of individual stars. They’re not a real team according to the faceless espn roundtable.

  12. Betsy

You’re right, M. I figure all of these guys had their own separate train compartments. They may even have their own floors in hotels on the road so they don’t have to see or speak to each other. I remember the time that AJ invited all the pitchers on his fishing boat so he could throw them overboard. It just didn’t get reported, but I know it happened. I also believe CC tried to push Joba off of that ride at Disney World – I don’t have a picture of that, but do you doubt that it happened?

Forget mid-May. Alex Rodriguez is showing signs that he is going to return to the Yankees well before that.

Hitting coach Kevin Long, who speaks daily with A-Rod, told The Post that Rodriguez has begun to hit and reported that he “feels 70 percent.”

A Yankee official told The Post that he thought the rehab was going so well, in fact, that if the organization wanted to it could have Rodriguez back on a major league field by late April.

Rodriguez remains in Colorado Springs rehabilitating from hip surgery. The plan is for him to head to the Yankees’ minor league complex in Tampa within the next 10 days to further step up his recovery program.

Who are the “Scrappy, Resilient Sucks”?

Is that the name of a band?

  15. Betsy

I almost hate getting Alex news, even great news like this, because it brings out the worst in some people.

In any case, I know Alex wants to return as soon as possible, but I hope he’s not pushing it. The Yankees have got to err on the side of caution. That said, it’s fantastic that he’s feeling so good.

What the post above me said. ^

  17. Benny ( it's Game time) Blanco

again…again. “on the field” this is a good thing. He helps the team. If Cody goes (1-12) in the tampa series, yankee fans will be begging for arod to come back.

  18. Jeter in LF

I’m psyched. I just hope it doesn’t rain.

  19. jennifer

Nick has never been on a train before? Wow.

  20. Dave L.

Perhaps Alex wasn’t really injured at all. Just needed to get out of the limelight for a bit and avoid dissing the DR in the WBC….

    Just kidding.

    Maybe.

i really haven’t been on a train, except a NJ transit to bernardsville a few years ago. (and unless you cound the subway, which i don’t). it’s amazing how much you can see that you could never see from a car. that trip though jersey was beautiful. sure beats the interstates to bernardsville…

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your what you’re saying.
