Clown, fraud or dork? Make up your minds

After Alex Rodriguez boasted about working out while other players took their kids to school, Trot Nixon called him a clown.
Then we learned that the Yankees referred to Alex as a fraud.
Now Derek Jeter’s new buddy, Dustin Pedroia, is adding his thoughts to the debate.
“That guy,” he tells Boston Magazine, “is a dork.”
The whole story is here. It’s elfin magic at its best.
(Thanks to River Ave Blues for pointing the story out).
Meanwhile, I’m headed to Camden Yards to see the club work out. I’ll try and take some photos.

yeah he’s a dork, but he’s our dork.
All these nicknames are getting too hard to remember.
It’s not easy to insult Arod these days with any sense of originality. Can we just start combining them?
Clown + Fraud can be Claud.
Fraud + Dork can be Fork.
Arod is a fork. See isn’t that easier?
As I said in the post before this one, the Hobbitt should focus on his brother’s legal problems and let the Yankees handle their player with special needs.
A-Roid is a dork, among many other things.
Timing on this “injury” couldn’t be any better, the team has focused on baseball.
this almost reminds of the Reggie Jackson days, another version A-Roid.
Pedroia shouldnt be talking. Yea he had one good year that doesnt make him great. Id still take cano any day over him. Cano in his second fll season had a better batting average than Pedroia last year. and despite being injured and playing over 30 less games than pedroia he had just 2 less home runs and 5 less RBIs. Pedroia got lucky that there was nobody who was a clear cut MVP choice last year and stole the award. Because cano has had better years than pedroia did last season.
Smurf calling someone else a “dork”? Ha ha
All of the above.
Loser is another one. Embarrassed he is on our team.
Pedroia has a WS ring, he certainly has more credibility than A-Rod, who is still trying to bat more than .120 in the postseason.
He also didn’t leave the All-Star game in the 5th inning.
An article saying Pedroia rises above the competition despite his short stature? Who does Boston Magazine think he is, David Eckstein?
stay classy arod h@ters
Ha, I remember that school/working out quote… What an idiot.
There is nothing left to say about this guy. Dork/clown, whatever word you want to use won’t accurately describe how sorry the guy is.
“He also didn’t leave the All-Star game in the 5th inning.”
Oh my God, Alex left the meaningless All Star Game early so that he could enjoy what little time off left he had during the break. Let’s burn him at the stake! What an empty controversy.
Pedroia has no credibility. Let’s see him do a little more in his career before he becomes yet another Arod “expert”. Don’t become a media parrot. You will end up sounding as dumb as some as they do re: Arod.
He can call him as many names as he wants. Arod is still a better player than Pedroia will ever be.
Alex is “misunderstood”. Right, guys?
===============================
Rishi,
Thanks for the rankings. I couldn’t stay up late enough for their debut.
Looks like I didn’t miss much.
I was dismayed that so many “experts” had us missing the playoffs, but we picked up some momentum as I scrolled down. LOL @ Gammons. Just once, just once, I’d like him to say Boston won’t make the playoffs. But how can you when you’re the President of Red Sox Nation?
And super lol @ the person(s) saying the WC is coming out of the AL Central.
“Pedroia has a WS ring, he certainly has more credibility than A-Rod”
I get it, everyone who has won a WS ring can talk trash about ARod. So if Geoff Jenkins says “ARod is a loser who has never hit a home run,” we have to believe him. This is impeccable logic on your part Thomas.
Also, go to dictionary.com so you can learn what “credibility” means. It’s a free service.
“who is still trying to bat more than .120 in the postseason.”
ARod is a .280 hitter in the playoffs. I won’t confuse you with other stats that you won’t understand.
Just for kicks, what would your dream midget MLB lineup look like?
C – Dioner Navarro
1B – Matt Stairs
2B – Dustin Pedroia or Brian Roberts
SS – David Eckstein
3B – Chone Figgins
LF – Joey Gathwright
CF – Brett Gardner
RF – Ichiro
RP – Tom Gordon
SP – Johnny Cueto
LOL Pete is awesome!!!
Arod responded by saying “I know you are but what am I?”
“Just for kicks, what would your dream midget MLB lineup look like?”
Hey, we’ve got to be PC here. You can’t say midget. They are vertically challenged.
It doesn’t take much courage to potshot A-Rod after everyone’s already done it about a thousand times.
“Pedroia has a WS ring, he certainly has more credibility than A-Rod.”
Don Mattingly doesn’t have a WS ring either, is he also less credible? Get a grip.
you arod h@ters has a sick obession of putting your own player down. is sad and pathetic
Alright Laura, what would your dream “tiny player” MLB lineup look like?
Pedroia has no credibility. Let’s see him do a little more in his career before he becomes yet another Arod “expert”.
—
With all due respect, winning ROY in his first season and MVP in his second qualifies as credibility in my book.
Alex is a clown, fraud and dork, no matter who says it.
I vote for fraud. His teammates agree, as Joe Torre noted.
(Before the Bowa spin that he used to protect Torre)
Dustin Pedroia should keep his mouth shut about our players and worry about his own team.
yet arod the best player on the yanks. then again these yanks fan rather see arod fail then hit a 3 run bomb. pathetic
“With all due respect, winning ROY in his first season and MVP in his second qualifies as credibility in my book.”
Please tell me what “credibility” means to you. Seriously. Because I think you have no idea what it means.
“Alright Laura, what would your dream “tiny player” MLB lineup look like?”
I like your lineup, but I’d go with Roberts at 2B. He’s cuter than the Hobbitt and has yet to talk trash about a Yankee player.
Pete,
Why on the eve of a wonderful season did you have to kill the mood with this thread? Someone posted this the other day and it died its natural death. We even talked about Alex rejoining the team last night and it wasn’t all rosy.
Something new and positive? Like who you think’s going to impact this team?
How about it guys?
I’ll start the list:
a. AJ-Going to bring focus, intensity on the field and a lightheartedness off the field.
b. Tex-Will bring a totally professional attitude on the field and pure class off of it.
c. Li’l G-If there were dirt in the OF, he’d look like Linus. Gritty & gutty is back in style.
d. Phil Coke-going to anchor the pen in front of Mo.
1. Alex is Alex – all of the above. So what? He’ll be counting his money for a long time. He’s also one heck of a baseball player. All that counts is that he produces on the field, and doesn’t pull a Plaxico Burres.
2. Pete’s column in the Journal News today is spot on – lack of pitching was the biggest problem last year. And not anything else. If Wang, and to a lesser extent Joba and Andy – doesn’t get hurt, the Yanks make the playoffs. C’est la vie.
3. Nice blogs by Kim Jones and Bob Lorenz.
I like Dork. It can be used almost endearingly.
Dustin Pedroia should still keep his mouth shut.
These people praising the Hobbitt aren’t real Yankee fans. No self respecting Yankees fan would ever side with a BOS player over their own. These are trolls just looking to cause trouble. That’s the only explanation that makes sense.
Pedroia is a winner and an MVP, he has the right to say whatever he wants. Resorting to jokes about his height show insecurity.
Everyone’s forgetting Mike Fontenot.
will be interesting to see what his career looks like at the end. It might end up that Cano has a better career when it is said and done. Guys like him are better at having a chip on their shoulder and keeping quiet.
now that he has come out of the closet so to speak lets see how he handles all the pressure as the “MAN” and with his big contract.
Personally I think he is a dork too………..
Big V
This was really necessary……..wonderful. Instead of talking baseball, this is what we’re going to get. M, I agree with you – it was dying a slow death. Now it’s been resurrected. Terrific.
Laura,
I hope you’re right. This site can look eerily like a Yankee news site written and read by Sox fans.
If Pedroia has the right to trash other players, then A-Rod or Jeter or Tex or any Yankee has the right to say that Pedroia is an overrated player who doesn’t deserve MVP and that Papelbon can’t carry Mo’s luggage.
It doesn’t matter what Pedroia has or hasn’t achieved in his short career, just goes to show that the Sox players, in general, lack class. Talking about other players? Tito better rein in his MVP. He’s getting too big for his britches.
Please. There is nothing more pathetic than whiny Yankee fans parroting more Anti-Arod swill from others. Now, it’s from a Red Sox.
Yet another reason why the world hates Yankee fans.
Here’s an idea.
Who cares what Dustin Pedroia says? If A-Rod is focusing on pithy comments like that instead of baseball and rehab, then we’ve all got a bigger problem on our hands than we thought.
I don’t care if he’s a dork, all I care about is having him jack homeruns into the crowd. Let Pedroia, the media, and the fair weathered fans say whatever they want. A-Rod’s heard it all by now, he (and we) really need to stop making a big deal out of small things.
m,
To be fair, A-Rod IS a clown. This is going to be an on-going story all year (and for the next 9) because A-rod craves attention and has bad judgement. He simply can’t just stick to baseball and be normal.
“b. Tex-Will bring a totally professional attitude on the field and pure class off of it.”
Thanks, m for trying to bring some class to a classless post.
I wanted Tex really bad during the off season and I am thrilled to death that we got him. I think that he and CC are going to be huge factors in the clubhouse and will do wonders for the team.
This whole thread is stupid.
The baseball season is starting, the Yankees have won their first two games at the stadium and this is brought up? Why?
We’ll see who the dork is when Alex takes out the little dust mite with a cleats first slide.
Typical Boston goof. Give him one MVP and a Dunkin’ Donut and he’s a voice of authority.
>Dustin Pedroia should keep his mouth shut about our players
>and worry about his own team.
His house is made of glass, and his brother aggressively volunteered to be the babysitter in that glass house.
Just sayin’.
And Laura’s right, Yankees fans that truly care about the team just care about how the players are doing and if they’re winning games. No one in their right mind would care about anyone’s comments, unless the comment happened to be something like “I saw A-Rod choking a homeless guy behind Yankee Stadium with a baseball bat”.
Play ball.
Teix – Absolutely. Our players can say anything they want about anyone, if they choose to.
Can’t kill Pedroia for speaking his mind.
“I don’t care if he’s a dork, all I care about is having him jack homeruns into the crowd. Let Pedroia, the media, and the fair weathered fans say whatever they want. A-Rod’s heard it all by now, he (and we) really need to stop making a big deal out of small things.”
As m said, we had addressed this issue a few posts ago and moved on from it. In search of blog hits, Pete posted it and unfortunately, this is what you get.
Laura-As you could see, the Tex signing was my favorite.
I love this guy. He hit 400 in the postseason last yr. vs. the Red Sox and he helped revamp a struggling angels lineup. Texeira will win MVP.
Despite Alex’s post-season foibles he has a better batting average, OB percentage and OPS in the post-season than Pedroia. That little twerp should just clam up CHOWDAH HEAD
“The baseball season is starting, the Yankees have won their first two games at the stadium and this is brought up? Why?”
Two words: BLOG HITS
Pedroia is like Jimmy Rollins– cocky and talks a lot, but backs it up everytime and the team takes their lead.
Trashing other players is classless. What did A-Rod ever do to Pedroia? I hope the Yankees wipe the smirk off his face when they knock Boston out of the playoffs.
“Texeira will win MVP.”
That’s one of the few things the ESPN nut jobs got right. Most of them picked Tex for MVP. This is one time that I hope they are right.
Peter, you had to bring this up, didn’t you? It doesn’t even count as news. Was the blog struggling or something?
joe,
I don’t know if you know me. I hammer on A-rod and I always back up Pete. But I had to put my foot down. After A-rod left town, things have been free and easy. A lot of us are hoping for great things for this permutation of the New York Yankees. They had a very successful debut of the NYS. This isn’t even news. Someone posted it and it fizzled. Pete posts it, and it just rips festering sore that was starting to heal.
Sorry, for the long rambling paragraph, but I guess that’s what rants usually look like.
Dork? Probably. Diva? Certainly. But who cares? His production is practically unrivaled.
He’s still the second best player in baseball after Pujols.
And whether you like him or not, he’s here for the next nine years. No one’s taking that contract. So get used to him.
This is a legitimate post. Pedroia calling A-Rod a ‘dork’ is thread worthy and Pete wanted to bring us the news.
Would you prefer that Pete hides this information from us and wears his pinstripes blinders? Me, I prefer the unfiltered news from Pete on the team.
I’m just going to start a new topic.
Who do you think is the key to the Yankees having a great season?
For me, that player is AJ Burnett. Everyone has sort of killed the Yankees for the Burnett signing this offseason, stating that he’s never pitched well in a non-contract year (somewhat true) and that he gets hurt all the time (true). Yet he murdered both the Yankees and Red Sox last year and seemed to be more efficient with his pitches. He’s said all the right things this spring about being a different pitcher and going out there to maximize his pitches instead of blowing people away. If he’s really changed and has learned how to pitch instead of throw, then the Yankees will have the best pitching in the league from 1-5. For the most part, Sabathia, Wang and Petitte will be the same guys that they’ve always been. Burnett and Chamberlain can really put them over the top, but Burnett moreso because he’s the 3. In addition, I’m all in favor of skipping Joba in the rotation as often as possible in order to keep his innings down.
What do you think?
too bad dustin won’t say to arod fce. when dustin complain arod gave an elbow, but didn’t say to arod face
Drain,
It’s not “news”. Some eagle-eyed poster put it up yesterday. People commented and moved on. Looks like Pete has, too. New thread. :->:
What else is there to talk about this afternoon?
Hearing AJ talk about Halladay mentoring him or Swisher being a clubhouse DJ for the 100th time?
Or maybe we can debate Joba to the pen or if Ramiro Pena is better than Angel Berroa.
Just some comedic relief the day before the journey starts. Lighten up.
A Sox player trash talking about ARod absolutely belongs on this site.
What makes the post depressing is not that Pedroia called ARod a dork (really, who cares?), but the fact that this site skews so heavily against ARod that 50% of commenters actually side with Pedroia.
trying again. :->:
Well, he’s our crazy dork.
I hope the hobbit has the onions to tell Alex to his face just how much of a dork he is.
Laura-While I would love Tex to win MVP, the best would be if Jeter just had this otherworldly resurgance and won. He deserved it in 1999.
*Laura-While I would love Tex to win MVP, the best would be if Jeter just had this otherworldly resurgance and won. He deserved it in 1999.*
And 2006.
M, actually Gardner would look like PigPen if there were dirt in the outfield……..According to some, Cano would be like Linus because he needs his security blanket (Bowa), lol.
The only thing I would say about Coke is that I don’t want to prematurely anoint him as anything just yet. He’s been outstanding this spring, but let’s first see him deal with adversity in major league games. I’ve seen the same kind of hype over Melancon, saying he’s the 2nd best guy out of the pen. He hasn’t thrown one pitch in the big leagues and he’s talked about as a savior in a way – way too premature.
I couldn’t agree with you more on AJ and Tex. It’s nice to have an honest-to-goodness power pitcher on the mound who won’t take you-know-what from any hitter. If a Yankee gets hit, someone on the other team is going down. AJ seems to have found a home in pinstripes (right time, right place?). He’s very comfortable and happy and he’s going to surprise a lot of people (who naturally expect him to get injured or don’t believe in his transformation). As we discussed yesterday, I think he is the key to the rotation. The Yankees will be very good if AJ is just good, but if he pitches up to his potential, then watch out. I honestly can’t wait for him to shut the fans in Fenway up.
Tex is almost too good to be true. He seems almost giddy to be in pinstripes. He also has one of the sweetest swings I’ve ever seen to go along with his fantastic D at first. I used to love watching Donnie play defense almost as much as I did watching him hit – it will be the same with Tex for me.
CC – huge impact. The guy is a stud (and an amazing person off the field as well) – and I’m still in awe of what he did last year. The Yanks need to take care of this guy’s arm and let the pen save him some wear and tear.
Jeter – I think he’s in for a big year. Too many obits have been written about him.
Cano – he’s just a tremendously talented hitter and I think he’s finally grown up. I expect him to have a great year – and I won’t kill him if he gets off to a slow start, either. Some players are just slow out of the gate, period.
Calling someone a dork hardly qualifies as trash talking. Saying you’re the best SS in baseball and that no one fears your “friend” qualifies as trash talking.
*The only thing I would say about Coke is that I don’t want to prematurely anoint him as anything just yet. He’s been outstanding this spring, but let’s first see him deal with adversity in major league games.*
Well, okay, but…he HAS pitched in major league games. Were you watching in 2008? I don’t like annointing players early or getting caught up in the hype like so many Yankee fans do, but he has proven he can pitch full innings at a big league level.
Betsy,
You’re right. Mixed up my peanuts.
The little fellow seems a tad angry and a bit of a dork himself.
m-I always looked at directly insulting someone as worse than saying that you’re really good.
I love Melancon. He will be the heir apparent to Mo. Coke is very good and can hold fort in the meantime, though.

Pedroia has a WS ring, he certainly has more credibility than A-Rod, who is still trying to bat more than .120 in the postseason.
He also didn’t leave the All-Star game in the 5th inning.
===================================================
Pedroia has a WS ring? Did he pitch, too? The Yankees have had no pitching since ARod got here. Yours is the most reductionist, unintelligent commentary.
Texeiramvp,
In sports, trash talking is insulting someone’s ability to play the game. It’s like sticking his thumbs in his ears, waggling his fingers, and sticking his tongue out like an elementary kid.
Did Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods ever feel the need to say how good they were?
Is everyone forgetting that Alex called HIMSELF a dork? Isn’t it possible that Pedroia meant it as an endearing remark? These men are ballplayers but they’re also just people. Isn’t it possible that they DON’T hate each other? That this “rivalry” is nothing more than an on-the-field boys’ game? And that most of them get along just fine off the field?
m-I guess. But calling someone a dork still isn’t nice.
A Rod isn’t smart enough to be a fraud. He is a clown and a dork. And, he is a graet baseball player.
On another note…Kim Jones has nice blog. There, I said it.
Elizabeth-It’s possible, but you’d have to be pretty stupid not to realize that the media would twist the you calling someone a dork into a negative thing. It’s not particularly difficult.
I don’t know, Elizabeth. From what little I read yesterday, Pedroia tried to take back what he said.
Tex,
No, calling people names isn’t nice. But Pedroia may have “little man’s syndrome”. Gotta knock others down to make himself feel bigger.
m-If he has little man’s syndrome, he shouldn’t. As much as Yankee fans hate him, he’s revered in Boston, even though he didn’t deserve MVP.
*I don’t know, Elizabeth. From what little I read yesterday, Pedroia tried to take back what he said.*
Probably because he realized that the media and the fans would blow it out of proportion. These guys have relationships–friendships–that media or fans will never understand and with good reason. There are inside jokes. Like I said, it’s a boys’ club.
Uh shouldn’t be a strike-through on “friendships”
Elizabeth you are right it is a boys club with the emphasis on boys that need mental maturity to go with their physical maturity
How is it that Eddie Gaedel was left off the all-midget team?
I’m a die hard Yankee fan, but for those that get all emotional about A-Rod, well, that’s on them. At this point I don’t care who criticizes A-Rod, it could be someone from Al Qaeda, my reaction will be the same. Ho-hum! I won’t defend A-Rod or even attempt to make an excuse for him, he’s a walking abortion that bring that all on himself. I’m done defending the guy, even if the criticism comes from a Sux player I despise.
I totally understand why anyone would hate A-Rod, it could be a Yankee fan or a fan from any other team. He does that to himself and he does very little to allow people to warm to him.
That doesn’t make him a bad guy, which is what a bunch of you think, it just makes him the least identifiable athlete on the planet. You can go nuts and say that this Yankee fan is a Benedict Arnold, then again, you are trying to stick up for A-Rod which probably means you’ll stick up for AIG and Bernie Madoff.
E-Boli-the13th-How’d he bring this on himself? He’s done nothing to Pedroia.
That Pedroia, he’s a dwarf.
Teixeramvp, He doesn’t have to, he makes it easy and understandable for others to say negative things about him.
It’s no different then someone saying something positive about Jeter. He respects others, never puts himself on some sort of pedestal, and doesn’t alienate people.
See, ARod isn’t exactly an Albert Belle type, he’s different. He’s like Tom Cruise, I’m sure Cruise does a lot of nice things, but he rubs a good number of people the wrong way. It’s the comments, it’s the inability to recognize your flaws. If you want to try and twist it, then fine. None of that, however, means that I won’t root for ARod when he’s on the field. Off the field, I understand all the negative press he gets, I understand the negative reactions by his peers.
I hope he can figure it out one day.
I saw this article earlier on Deadspin. Pedroia is really a class act in this interview. The entire thing is essentially about how he’s played with a chip on his shoulder since high school (where he played QB for the football team, he attended Lollipop Kid High, by the way) because he’s 5′8″. Good for you.
This kid has the balls to talk smack about someone who has been in the league almost 15 years and is arguably the best baseball talent any of us will see in our lives? He’s just another punk in professional sports who thinks he’s hot $hit.
Arod is quirky and can be called plenty of names, but it is professional courtesy and class that prevents people from sniping their own in the sport.
Good luck hitting that high-inside fastball, tough guy.
Someone get Pedroia a few phone books to stand on so he can talk sh!t to A-rod’s face.
Pedroia is a Red Sox. Enough said.
Calling him a “dork” is a little bit vanilla.
You should have been there to coach Pedroia a bit Peter. Maybe he would have come up with something a little more interesting.
lol @ dustin pedroia, of all people, calling someone a dork. has he glanced at a mirror lately? he looks like a little dwarfy chipmunk
Pedroia looks like his name should be Cooter and he should be living in Appalachia, starring in Deliverance II.
Pete, are you as confused as we are by the defense on behalf of and the excuses made for this cheat?
Bret:
Confused? No. Some people are so blinded by their loyalty to a team or player that they can’t think straight. It’s not surprising at all.
I understand that Pete and others don’t like Alex, but is it so hard to understand that there are some people out there who do, for whatever reason? I don’t mean defend him because of loyalty. I mean actually like him as a player.
Yeah honestly…people are coming to a blog written by a Red Sox fan and complaining that he’s BAAAW DISSING THE YANKEES BAAAW?
At the least, I give credit to Pete for being a truthful, honest mediot who unlike others doesn’t sugarcoat the fact that he’s a Red Sox fan who only writes for the Yankees because it sells, regardless of whether it’s entertaining or not.
He doesn’t try to justify himself…people knows he hates ARod, and he doesn’t hide it, and earns his paychecks by that.
Plus, posting these links always gets good hits on a blog with no quality in it, as it gets reactions.
ARoids or AFraud or ADork or AClown, all I care is that he produces.
Those using “we” for the Yankees and talking about team chemistry need to look in the mirror, as no matter how much they pray, the only place they can be a Yankee is in their dream.
You know, the one thing I have to give A-Rod credit for is that he never takes these petty shots at other players. (At least post-Esquire) There’s a lot A-Rod can say about other guys, especially since most of them aren’t even close to being as good as he is, but he doesn’t.
Oh no he called Arod a dork, what a big scary word coming from a balding hobbit.
How about
“Neo Maxi Zoom Dweebie”
I’d vote “fraud”, but at least ARod doesn’t come from a family of pedophiles like Pedroia does.
Q. What does the Pedroia family call M&M’s?
A. Bait.
Do I even care what some Red Sox punk with a napolean complex has to say about my team’s or its players?
<>
How about that AJ Burnett yesterday?
yet another pot/kettle/black moment…
