Mike (NJ): How much do you think the Jeter/Damon switch is going to help the Yanks?
Rob Neyer: (12:14 PM ET ) It’s a tiny thing, worth maybe three or four runs over the course of the season. But pennants can be won or lost because of tiny things.
the poll reminds me of the new MLB Optimism commercial where one of the Twins fans says the twins will lose 5 games…ALL YEAR lol. I expect 90% of this board to pic win WS.
I can’t seem to get any posts about the new stadium through the filter but I am going to post a link to a Stadium Insider review that also has some links to other blog stadium reviews including one by Alex Belth.
I feel the stadium does fall short in many ways even beyond the obstructed views and I think these reviews sort of sum up these issues.
1. Jeter grounds into less double plays
2. Splits up the lefties – Gardner and Damon
3. Damon maybe gets a few more singles through the hole between 1B and 2B
Maybe its only 3 or 4 runs but it could end up being more. Either way, I don’t see a downside to the move.
Love Pete’s predictions about the season. The best thing is that we know he is not a Yankees sycophant so he is coming from a totaly objectivd place. Brilliant guy that Pete.
I knocked the Sox to third place. It made me feel so good to do that. He he!
Anyone would be out of their mind to predict that any team will win more than 95-96 games. It’s borderline impossible to win more than 110 games unless everything happens to work out perfectly. By the way, if they do win 110+, then I hope they don’t turn out to be like the last team that did, the 2001 Seattle Mariners.
Okay kids, I said I was going to do this and I am going to. As soon as I find out how to link to a web address off my screenname, I am going to have an ongoing file for predictions for 2009 Yankee wins.
Psyluck (I know I didn’t spell that right but will get the correct spelling) predicted 96 wins. Rob Thompson is going with 110. I guessed between 99 and 103, but Rob’s prediction is causing me to go on the higher end and go with 103. If anyone else wants to chime in, feel free to do so.
I will try to keep track, but if someone notices I didn’t get their prediction, please just mention it again.
M – saw your post about the ESPN Predictions – I’m more concerned that Greeny picked the Yankees to win it all I’ve decided I prefer people picking against the Yankees…and then saw the MLB network predictions show this morning…a little too much Yankee love.
Well I can see that’s not going to work too well. It’s fine for the initial doc but any changes I make don’t take on the web space. Back to the drawing board.
I think the Yanks are going to win it all every year, even in the eighties. I’m feeling a lot more confident now though, I’m just hoping and praying they stay healthy and out of the negative headlines.

It’s the sum of the tiny things that matters.

Joe (Findlay OH): Do you think that A.J Burnett will hold up this year and get close to the same numbers that he did last year with the Blue Jays?
Rob Neyer: (12:22 PM ET ) I do not. But if he can start 25 games that should be good enough.

Joe (Raleigh, NC): CC Sabathia Wins, 19 over/under?
Rob Neyer: (12:23 PM ET ) He’s my Cy Young pick (duh), but I’ll go with the under … let’s say 18-8, 3.04.

I think the Jeter/Damon thing achieves 3 things.
1. Jeter grounds into less double plays
2. Splits up the lefties – Gardner and Damon
3. Damon maybe gets a few more singles through the hole between 1B and 2B

Tom K,
I am clueless. No need to rub it in!
I honestly don’t see the Yanks winning less than 110 games this year. No, this is not a misprint. They are THAT good.

Hey guys,
Took a pic from the upper deck at Friday night’s game — kind of funny placement for a warning sign… Hopefully get it on failblog…

ESPN has a poll: Where does Joba Chamberlin have the Brightest future:
In the Bullpen?
In the Rotation?
73% of Masachusetts voters say in the bullpen proving that he belongs in the rotation.

Are we a bunch of homers or what? Why even bother putting the other choices?

Psyluck, swear to God I didn’t see your post! So I did spell your name right.
hey Trisha!

I got the yanks down for 106 wins!
Well I’m so glad I wasted my time reading the Stadium Insider review. Talk about a waste of 5 minutes.
matt- If someone manages to get a bat up there that would be some feat.
#2 for prez – gotcha for 106

The Yankess will go 96-66 to win the Division. The Rays will go 91-71 and beat out Boston for the Wild Card in the last week of the season.
