Peter Abraham

The Yankees today sent out this release with their minor-league rosters. Scranton gets started on Thursday, Trenton on Wednesday, Tampa on Thursday and Charleston on Thursday.

Minor League Baseball.com has stories, stats, rosters and schedules for ever team.

If you get a chance, go see one of the teams. For fans in the metropolitan area, Scranton and Trenton are easy to get to, the prices are reasonable and you’ll get a first-hand view of players who could help the Yankees this season.

Here are the updated rosters:

Notes: Based on this, it appears Dan Giese cleared waivers and was outrighted to Scranton. … If you don’t see a particular player, it likely means he is on the disabled list or was left in extended spring training in Tampa. The Yankees have short-season minor league teams in Staten Island and in the Gulf Coast League that start up in June along with teams in the Dominican Summer League

    Thanks, Peter.
    But where’s Wilkins DeLaRosa?

  2. The Riddler

Where is Wilkins De La Rosa?

  3. Doe

Could have a SS, C, and top of the rotation Pitcher all come up at the same time. With a CF coming a few years before them.

What does that remind you of?

  4. The Riddler

    Whoa. Great minds…jake

  5. Rich

    Where’s Jario Heredia?

  6. Clay Buchholz Loves Laptops - Latest Blog Entry: My Interview With Bill Gallo

Lots of experience on that AAA pitching staff!

  7. Giuseppe Franco

Keep in mind that guys like Christian Garcia, Alan Horne, and Humberto Sanchez are all staying for extended spring so they should be added to the Trenton and Scranton rosters within the next few weeks.

  8. EvoLuTioN

    where is angel berroa

  9. frankiedue

Anyone know where Horne will be assigned when he comes of the DL? A+, AA, AAA?

  10. GreenBeret7

I can’t understand why they jumped Snyder from Low A, Charleston to AA Trenton. He’s got a good bat, but, he can’t play defense at any position.

  11. Phil

Heredia and De La Rosa are missing.

  12. Miles Roche

Weird. Expect Jairo Heredia to open in Tampa. . .

  13. S.A.--It's a marathon, not a sprint

Kay talking about the Yanks game now-he is actually making sense. Basically chill the heck out people

  14. Free Booze

For all the fans worried about CC and the season look at the ESPN front page poll. The majority of the entire nation (even Boston!) believes the Yankees should not be at all worried about Carsten Charles.

Mike Fran just interviewd Roy White – pretty good.
They usually have them availble for replay.

He has a book out “And then Roy said to Mickey, the best Yankees stories ever told”

  16. Dennis

any news on De leon from his production in DSL i expected him to start in Low A not short season.

  17. Tim N.

Where’s the Staten Island Baby Bombers?o

  18. Miles Roche

I can’t believe you guys are actually talking about some concern that’s out there about Sabathia.
Whoever does harbor any kind of such concern is a complete doofus. . .

  19. John in Ohio

    Prediction:

First pitcher called up will be Melancon. (Nah, probably Tomko, but SHOULD be Melancon.)

  20. Miles Roche

LMFAO when my friend muttered to himself “Here we go again” during the game, then turning to me he says “I’m feeling it. The Yankees are not making the playoffs this year.”

  21. bodhisattva

    Dennis,

Looks like both De Leon and Eduardo Sosa will be manning the outfield in Staten Island. I’m assuming Urena goes there as well, but not sure.

This is beyond exciting for me – it’s only about 45 minutes from here. I will be a frequent paying customer.

  22. Phil

Also, I think Amauri Sanit has been released.

  23. tampayank

man as a fan an off day after opening day sucks, all the excitement yesterday to get into that daily routine then you wait again ha

Yeah, thanks, Ellie. Just watched it. Mr. White hasn’t changed a bit. Still the ultimate in class and humility. Hard to believe that if Jerry Kenny, Roger Repoz and Steve Whitaker had blossomed, the Yankee infield of the 60s and 70s would have been Kenny at 3rd, Murcer at short, White at 2nd and Bloomberg at 1st base. Outfield of Whitaker, Repoz and Spikes in the outfield, with Munson catching.

  25. John in Ohio

My golf league was scheduled to start today, but it’s 38 degrees, and was snowing sideways awhile ago. Postponed.

  26. Drive 4-5

Mich Hilligoss hasn’t made it above A Ball yet? Is he really considered a prospect at this point?

  27. bodhisattva

Always loved Roy White. We used to call him Royito Blanquito.

How about Francesa asking White what his favorite moment as a Yankee was. And whenn White answers “Chambliss”, Francesa cuts him off and doesn’t let him say another word about it.

  28. Phil

    Where is Jorge Vazquez?

  29. Doug

    bradley suttle?

  30. Dennis

    thanks bodhisattva
that’s what i figured a little surprised considering the type of numbers both Sosa and De Leon put up but i guess they want to take things slow with them.

  31. Joker

What about Pat Venditte?(the ambidextrous guy)

  32. Oh no he didn't

Tex trying to play to the Baltimore audience.

  33. Doug

    joker, venditte’s in charleston

  34. Uncle Ellsworth

I watched Roy White and Willie Randolf play Donkey Basketball in my hometown in the 70’s – good times

Michael Kay railing against the Knee Jerk reaction the media had to yesterday’s game. good for him.

  35. GreenBeret7

De La Rosa and Suttle will be in Tampa and Venditte will be in Charleston. I would guess than Vazquez will begin in Trenton and move up to Scranton.

  36. randy l.

… so who are the 7-8-6 guys that everyone else is there for so those guys have someone to play with ?

  37. kd

There was a lot of hype around Carmen Angelini when he signed. Anyone know if he lived up to the ‘going to replace Jeter’ status?

I don’t care what their ratings are, all I know is that Randy Levine and those fatcats along with YES engineers had better figure out a way to better present Yankee Stadium come opening day than shooting through that protective net, or I will refuse to watch a single Yankees home game this year if that is not fixed. Would rather listen to the game than watch that amateur, bush league presentation of a game to the fans. YES loves to tout themselves about this and that award I notice, yet they can’t get a decent camera shot, that shows the beauty of the new stadium from behind home plate.

As one fan exclaimed, I am sure I am not the first, nor I will be the
last to complain about the new stadium home viewing situation. I have been a Yankee fan for 45 years and always look forward to the spring and the start of another baseball season. So when I sat down
the other day to watch the first televised game from the new stadium, I was immediately disappointed.

    The camera is
behind the SCREEN! All you see is the SCREEN!. Every infield
play the camera has to refocus past the SCREEN before it picks
up the play. On every home run, all you see is the
SCREEN, and as the camera follows the ball, more wires are
seen. There are wires all over the place. It’s completely
UNWATCHABLE! I guess when the engineers and architects
designed the new stadium, they anticipated all the players and
fans needs and catered to their whims. Except they forgot one
segment of Yankee fans-THE HOME VIEWERS!

I guess we’re not that important to you. I mean all we do is buy all the crap that is advertised, and boost your ratings so you can
charge more for commercials. I don’t understand how this screen problem was omitted from the new design. Every game now will look like a spring training game.

The old stadium screen was draped over the fans so that the mezzanine camera was above it. Why wasn’t that done now? Oh, I forgot,THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT THE HOME VIEWERS,
WE’RE INSIGIFICANT. Whoever is responsible for this atrocity
has already ruined my enjoyment of Yankee baseball
for the year. It looks like now I will be watching only
road games and listening to home games on radio. I know no one
is going to answer this letter. Anyway,

THANKS A LOT YES AND YANKEES.
You’ve ruined a once proud tradition in the Bronx.”

Quoted for Truth! God Bless you Cal, that net was horrible. I’m still waiting for Pete’s story about how much people hate it and how the Yankees are going to fix it!

  39. tampayank

my Shields vs Beckett prediction since there is no Yanks baseball today: Shields gets rocked, Beckett runs into a little trouble but gets through 6 innings

  40. jake

Suttle is on the DL now, EXT ST. So is Jairo Heredia.
Thanks to GreenBeret7 for the update on DeLaRosa.
Carmen Angelini is still a prospect. He has the best raw tools of any of the Yanks’ SS prospects. Time will tell if he puts it together.

  41. Laura - Plug it in, change the world!

According to the YES website, the Yankees chose the fan’s safety over the presentation of the game. If the choice is between someone getting killed by a foul ball versus a “not so great camera shot”, I’ll chose the “not so great camera shot” every time.

  42. kd

    thanks jake.

  43. SJ44

    Laura,

I think that’s spin on the Yankees part.

In this day and age, there really is no excuse to botch up the camera angles in a new stadium. Especially when the Yankees own the network that televises their games.

I don’t think its an issue of fan safety. I think the issue is, they screwed up and aren’t yet willing to admit it.

I too hope they fix the problem because if they don’t, it makes them look like a minor league outfit.

  44. Christina

Great interview with Roy White. I wish I could have seen some of those games back in the day.

  45. Laura - Plug it in, change the world!

“I think that’s spin on the Yankees part.”

Perhaps. I’m just reporting what I read.

  46. Patrick

“I don’t think its an issue of fan safety. I think the issue is, they screwed up and aren’t yet willing to admit it.”

What a joke. Are they saying that in the old stadium they chose presentation over fans safety? I highly doubt that. I also don’t remember anyone dying from a foul ball in the old stadium. It is obvious they screwed up.

I can’t think of any other stadium in the league that has the same foul ball net problem as the new Yankee stadium. YES and the Yankees have to make every effort to correct this, it really is embarrassing.

  47. hokiehill

Yeah, that has to be their spin on the situation after the fact…there’s no way they were in the planning stages and said, “this will look like crap on TV, but the fans will be safe!” A definite mistake that needs to be addressed.

  48. Chris

    Poor Steve Strausbaugh.

  49. Rich

What’s the point of a new stadium when

    A. Most people can’t even afford to go to the games
    B. The TV feed is substandard so the fans at home get screwed

  50. Christina

Not sure how much of an impact this has, but the net doesn’t extend above the field level seats, as it did at the old stadium. It allows for more people to catch foul balls but also gives those rich people more of a chance to get bopped in the head, as I am sure they probably wont be watching the game.

  51. Uncle Ellsworth

This is 2009 – You can keep the fans safe and have unobstructed camera views!
    Someone messed up

  52. Uncle Ellsworth

Who has the blog that has all the Stadium pics???

    ————————————————————

I guess Hilligoss will stay at third base in Tampa. He was hurt a lot last year and the season was just about a total loss. He can hit, though, and has outstanding speed. He’s another that has a terrible defensive flaw. Suttle isn’t much better, but, what power potential. Those living in Tampa are in for an offensive treat with Montero, Romine and Laird. Outstanding young starters and a young Trevor Hoffman type. Jonathan Ortiz has a good low 90s fastball and a Bugs Bunny change-up and pinpoint control of all of them. Strikeouts and ground balls all day long.

  54. raymagnetic

    Where is Carmen Santiago?

  55. randy l.

rays/red sox underway in fenway. beckett sharp in first inning .

  56. Benny ( it's Game time) Blanco

anybody else watching the bosox tampa game? Damn I wish the yankees were playing today.

  57. Baseball Fab

Wow, TG Beckett was injured last year the Sox woulda won the world series.

  58. Bronx Jeers

I saw that there was a camera set up on the field level concourse. I am assuming that is the camera that is looking through the net.

Where was this camera last season. Mid loge next to the press box? Most likely / Can they not just move the camera ?

  59. tampayank

Shields is going to have a rough outing, just the gut feeling

  60. Pauly

Don’t look now but Gil Meche is shutting down the White Sox. 7 IP, 1ER, 6k’s.

  61. McG

Jeters Edge – I completely agree, It feels as if I am watchign spring training highlights. THE NET MUST GO!

  62. tampayank

    montero is a stud

    that scrappy Pedroia

  63. Bronx Jeers

    Pedroia HR.

  64. Benny ( it's Game time) Blanco

pedroia is a beast…he just took shields over the monster.

  65. Baseball Fab

Little Pedroia with the Yanks would have been a super dooper upppper star, VERY hard to dislike the kid

  66. Benny ( it's Game time) Blanco

welcome to the everyday grind tampa! in the belly of the east.

  67. Benny ( it's Game time) Blanco

    mike might take him deep

  68. randy l.

    “mike might take him deep”
    good call.

  69. randy l.

benny, the red sox are looking kind of blanco.
    what’s up with that?

  70. Benny ( it's Game time) Blanco

    LOL…beckett retired 6 straight on 16 pitches.

  71. Vince

And all this time I thought this was a Yankee blog What’s with all the Boston stuff? What’s to envy up there ?

  72. Matt

Just a note echoing Peter about the joys and affordability of minor league baseball. I live in Salt Lake City (a displaced New Jersey Yankee fan) home of the AAA Salt Lake Bees, the Angels are the parent club. My son gets a student pass in his Easter Basket every year. Cost $35 for the season. Excellent Field Level Box seats are $12 and that’s up some. It’s a thrill to see the guys make the show, and then make an impact. Chone Figgins played here for two years. John Lackey for a year. Biggest name was when they were still the Twins AAA club a guy by the name of David Ortiz played here. Great stuff and a bargain price.

  73. Ryan

I like the look of these young rosters!!!

I’ll be in Manchester, NH on 5/23 to watch Trenton play. would love to enjoy the game with some fellow pinstripers…
