I’m not saying Ramiro Mendoza was THE key to the championship Yankees. But a long reliever who can spot start and keep his ERA around 4.00 is worth his weight in gold.

Well that’s true too, and I chuckled when the guy said Melky “only started hitting at the end.” The end is when the pitching is getting stronger.

The irony of that argument was that Gardner won the job and started the majority of their last seven games or so.

Melky did much of his late surge offensive damage against the other teams’ minor leaguers after Gardner had already been lifted in the middle innings.

Not really, especially since Girardi said that neither was going to win the job in the first week or the last week of ST.

Melky has blown several chances to take that job and run with it.

Why do people feel he deserves yet another chance when he clearly hasn’t earned it?

Go check the stats if they are still available.

Melky spent most of ST hovering around .200 – .250 until the last 10 days or so and finally woke up.

That’s a fact.
