Some of you are either being intentionally hostile ('cos that's for fun you, I guess) or are just ignorant.
The Yanks have great depth in certain positions, not in others. No ML team has depth all around.
An extraordinary number of injuries would be devastating to any team. And the Yanks have had, so far, an extraordinary number of injuries and/or guys rehabbing. A-Rod, Matsui, Bruney, Wang. What team could sustain injuries to such key players and still hit on all cylinders?
$200m buys you quality, but it doesn't buy you any guarantees.

dennis-

it is a beautiful day here and those damn red sox fans walking around have an unusually happy look on their faces. it's really annoying :)

yeah last week , while i was watching he got drilled right off the helmet, fairly solid. there was no fisticuffs or anything. just a few histrionics from youkillis ,but nothing major.

my point is he seems to get hit a lot. he dives in ( just like jeter does).
the yankees can't take up and in off the table because red sox nation is going to overreact when a yankee pitcher offends youkillis by going up and in.

jeter doesn't overreact. he knows it's the price he pays for diving in and taking ownership of the outside corner of the plate. youkillis reacts like a stuck pig and red sox nation is screaming for blood.

here's the deal. the yankees have to ignore the irrational overreaction of youkillis and red sox fans at the ballpark and go up and in with youkillis just the way the red sox do with jeter.

joba needs to go up and in. every yankee pitcher needs to go up and in against youkilis. he's locked in and that's how you get him not locked in.

other teams do it. the yankees need to also. had they done it the whole game youkillis may not have ben so comfortable for the walk off.

not trying to rattle the sabers, but youkillis can't have the whole plate just because he squeals like a stuck pig when he doesn't get it.

"maybe randy l was right about Cashman"

jax gmen-

i'm backing off from the personal blame game because i've found it's not productive. the yankees are an organization and it's just as easy to make the same points without getting into personalities.

i do think there's some problems with how the organization solves problems . the red sox got matsuzaka out of their starting rotation quicker and replaced him in a more effective way than the yankees have handled the problem of wang.

it's a matter of damage control. stuff is going to go wrong. the question is how you deal with it and also how proactive you are in preventing it. if you notice, papelbon , even at his age went one inning. he could have gone another.

but he red sox measure his shoulder strength and they have rules about his use because of shoulder issues. rivera is 39 years old. 4 outs and a high 30's in pitch count. especially early in the season, that just doesn't seem smart.

Randy-

Amy spoke with her Mom in Orleans this AM and she said it is a beautiful day on the Cape. Only about a month+ until the Cape Cod League starts..All good.

The Sox played Balt and then a DH with MN last week. I was not aware that Youk was hit in the head. I was traveling all week for work.

Hope business is solid at your store.

CB.

Pretty well played game except for both teams having trouble with RISP. I thought Joba battled well w/out his best stuff. That is a great sign in his development. The DP's were no fluke.

Good point on Pedroia. He is a much better athlete than people give him credit for IMO. He just does not look the part...

How long do you continue to hit Ortiz 3rd? IMO, he is no longer 3 guy until he proves otherwise.

randyl

There has to be someone in the Yankees system (Contreras, Connors?) who was around when NA taught Wang the sinker and should have a clue on how to get him righted.

You know more about this than most here, does this hip abductor diagnosis hold any weight with you as to velocity and if Wang was toying with the longer stride to increase velocity?
