Further word from Scranton is that Mark Melancon is on the way to Boston.

That can’t be good news for Brian Bruney.

  1. uh oh April 25th, 2009 at 11:56 am

wow. this team is self destructing

  2. Buddy Biancalana April 25th, 2009 at 11:56 am

Shoot, that sux about Bruney. Thankfully we have Melancon, let’s see what he’s got.

  3. Michael April 25th, 2009 at 11:56 am

While it’s not good for BIG BAD Bruney – This is possibly one of the happiest moments of my life. Melancon is the real deal.

  4. bodhisattva April 25th, 2009 at 11:57 am

Wow. Bruney hurt enough that the arbitration issue is rendered irrelevant.

  5. 2008 Hasn't Ended April 25th, 2009 at 11:57 am

I say again, 2008 has not ended. This season is a nightmare. I’m excited about Melancon but the injuries continue to pile up like last year. After a loss like last night, if they don’t win today I fear a slide coming on….hope I’m wrong…

  6. Ben April 25th, 2009 at 11:58 am

This is scary stuff. With no 8th inning man the team does not look great right now. How many bad things can happen in one night in Boston? I knew I hated that place for a reason.

  7. Trevor April 25th, 2009 at 11:58 am

I’m happy about Melancon but that might mean bad news from Bruney.
Which I suspected. It’s never good when a pitcher if feeling something in his elbow. And he’s never had Tommy John so…

  8. Rebecca-Optimist Prime...Staying to Write the Story April 25th, 2009 at 11:59 am

    Uh oh.

  9. bodhisattva April 25th, 2009 at 11:59 am

All these hysterical hannahs. Pitchers get injured. That’s why you can’t have too many good ones. Other teams have these issues, too. Glad – hope? – you’re not sitting in my Section.

    Bad energy people.

  10. Nicole April 25th, 2009 at 12:01 pm

As someone who’s seen Melancon pitch a good deal (I covered the Trenton Thunder last summer when he was their closer), I fully support this move. Bruney is too hit-or-miss, and Melancon’s got the goods to be the Yanks’ next Rivera.

Losing Bruney isn’t a bad thing at all.

  11. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:02 pm

    YES! YES YES YES!
Sorry, but I’ve wanted him up for forever…

  12. Coach6423 April 25th, 2009 at 12:02 pm

Easssssy with the sky is falling folks…

Melancon is the real dea, they were trying to save an arbitration year by waiting. Bruney is injured, and Melancon is better than everyone else in the pen. The time was now. Simple as that, Bruney hasn’t even been tested yet, RELAX.

  13. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:02 pm

My mood just got way, way better.

  14. R*d S*x Hater April 25th, 2009 at 12:02 pm

Haven’t I always been saying controlling that f*cking Jason B*y is the key to the series?

Remember, AJ, beat Jason B*y, you beat the R*d S*x.

    Good luck.

  15. G. Love April 25th, 2009 at 12:03 pm

I feel terrible for Bruney. He looked lights out this year and he really transformed himself.

    Hopefully, his injury isn’t serious.

I’m happy about this Melancon move for a lot of reasons. I didn’t want to see the Yankees being the Rays and Orioles and deliberately holding prospects who can help them win now in the minors to mess with the arb clock on the players.

That’s nickel and diming. That’s not going for it all.

If Melancon can pitch effectively in the bigs, he deserves to be here.

I hate that he has to debut in Fenway, but it is what it is.

As for 3b, they have to DL Ransom 60 days. They can’t waive a player to bring up Berroa.

  16. Jeter in LF April 25th, 2009 at 12:03 pm

I doubt they know what Bruney’s MRI revealed yet.

  17. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:03 pm

too bad bruney is hurt. this bullpen would be awesome with Mo, bruney, melancon, robertson, coke, albeledejo

  18. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:03 pm

Too bad for Bruney though, if he is hurt.

  19. Gus April 25th, 2009 at 12:04 pm

So Bruney is done and we are rushing a good pitcher up !!!!!! This sucks tell me why people are happy. Bruney has been not good but great . Now he is done tommy john just like that . This sucks

  20. Trevor April 25th, 2009 at 12:04 pm

And this is the second year in a row now that Bruney’s been hurt. His durability is questionable now.

  21. Coach6423 April 25th, 2009 at 12:04 pm

    Nicole

If you don’t think that if they were to lose Bruney is bad, you really don’t know much about the game. DEPTH makes a team better, for the same reasons people want to have Joba in the pen to shorten games, Bruney and Melancon in the pen together gives Girardi more flexibility in the shortening of games. Bruney is a very good pitcher, and has been for 2 years now. If he is lost, it hurts the team.

  22. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:05 pm

i dont know why robertson hasnt been here all year. there are only two guys in the opening day bullpen better than him….Mo and Bruney

  23. G. Love April 25th, 2009 at 12:05 pm

I want to say one thing about Marte…I know he gave up the HR last night, but he looked like a completely different pitcher and I liked it.

I’m not just talking about the emotion he was showing on the field. His stuff looked crisper and better. Fastball had more life.

Girardi needs to start trusting him more and making him a big part of the pen.

  24. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:05 pm

I love it, if this guy is half as good as they say he is our eighth inning will be UNSTOPPABLE!
If he’s lights out, the Joba in the pen debate is OVER!

  25. Luigi April 25th, 2009 at 12:06 pm

jeez what is it with the teams i root for, always decimated by injuries, this is the best team in baseball by a long shot when healthy in my opinion yet we never may see that come to fruition

  26. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Gus-A) We don’t know if Bruney is even hurt, and B) this kid is dupposedly a phenom, he’s not being rushed, the only reason he wasn’t up already is that arbitration thing.

  27. Coach6423 April 25th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

What a bunch of chicken littles you all are…

  28. Rebecca-Optimist Prime...Staying to Write the Story April 25th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

As good as this may be for Melancon, I feel awful for bruney.

He worked his a** off last year and this year to get that 8th inning spot and was pitching lights out. he doesn’t deserve this.

  29. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

    d is s in dupposedly

  30. bodhisattva April 25th, 2009 at 12:08 pm

    Teix,

Is anyone else having that “debate” besides Mike Francesa and George King? And aren’t they the only people on earth on its wrong side?

    LOL.

  31. R*d S*x Hater April 25th, 2009 at 12:08 pm

Also, didn’t I say yesterday that at least one Yankee will get injured in the series?

( But of course, the Yankees need to use body bags every time they face the R*d S*x. )

  32. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:08 pm

I wish we could have Bruney too, but Melancon up is great news.

  33. Betsy April 25th, 2009 at 12:08 pm

I agree that it’s probably bad news for Bruney – man, this stinks.

I hope Melancon does well, but when he struggles as rookies inevitably do, he’ll be ripped apart by fans.

  34. BGNYY April 25th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

Bruney was lights out about 60% of the time the other times not so much

  35. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

bodhisattva-SNY thinks he should set up, several people on the blog think he should set up, and Yesnetwork had poll where Joba as a set up man won.
If Melancon’s good, the debate is over.

  36. Paddy R April 25th, 2009 at 12:10 pm

rebecca – (from earlier thread) you can’t blame girardi, but i can. matter of opinion!

it’s not like mo has never gone 4 outs, no doubt. he’s done all that and then some. but that does not make it reasonable, at the age of 39, to bring him in to that spot for the first time THIS SEASON. because if you get burned, you probably don’t have him available today. which is our situation! it’s less about the blown save and more about girardi not stretching mo out in a better situation, not just for that game, be the next 1-2. give mo 4-5 outs on a sunday or wednesday with an off monday or thursday. so even if you get burned, at least it doesn’t affect the next day.

  37. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:10 pm

red sox hater….you are the man for calling that someone would get hurt this series. how did you know????? you are the coolest eva you must know so much about baseball to predict that

  38. bodhisattva April 25th, 2009 at 12:10 pm

Hey, I’m just thankful that collision at the plate between Joba and Ellsbury didn’t get Joba hurt. If that had happened, I might be in the doom&gloom group this morning.

  39. Coach6423 April 25th, 2009 at 12:10 pm

    BGNYY,

That cause Bruney wears sex panther

  40. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:10 pm

Betsy-Melancon may struggle at first, but if he loves up to even half of the hype he will be dominant more often than not.

  41. S.A.--It's a marathon, not a sprint. Calm down. April 25th, 2009 at 12:11 pm

Damn I feel bad for Bruney. :(

Well, many were wondering when we would see Melancon-here he is. I’m excited to see him up in the bigs. Not to mention nervous for him.

  42. talltenor April 25th, 2009 at 12:11 pm

Hoping Bruney is OK, but happy for Melancon. He’ll be doing what Joba did two seasons ago, blowing ‘em away.

  43. Coach6423 April 25th, 2009 at 12:11 pm

Mo is available today folks, unless something changed from last night.

  44. gurinder April 25th, 2009 at 12:11 pm

maybe bruney is not injured… dey callin up guys cause da bullpen got used up a lott…. veras pitched 3 inningg last timee ……. so dis can have somethin to do wit it

  45. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:12 pm

    talltenor-I really, realy hope so.

  46. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:12 pm

no one can blame giradi for last night. if you cant ask your closer for 4 outs in a big spot, than its time for a new closer

mo just blew his one save of the year…no big deal

  47. Trevor April 25th, 2009 at 12:12 pm

Most this blog has been screaming for Mark Melancon and he’s finally up but it sucks that it took a Bruney injury for it to happen.
I would have loved to see this pen:

    Rivera
    Bruney
    Coke
    Melancon
    Robertson

  48. S.A.--It's a marathon, not a sprint. Calm down. April 25th, 2009 at 12:13 pm

I have to agree. Yeah, the HR sucked. I’m over it.
But, overall I thought he looked good yesterday, which was nice to see.

  49. R*d S*x Hater April 25th, 2009 at 12:13 pm

    ” UNSTOPPABLE! ” ?

LOL. I just hope they won’t stunt his growth by throwing him against the R*d S*x.

At least he’s economical with his pitches, unlike those other young Yankee propects named you know what.

I agree, I fear the Youk and Bay combo; Bay has been coming up w/ huge hits for them; Big Popup might get something going against the Yanks b/c he seems to always kill us but he looks really slow at the plate, he might be on a big decline, I hope so…that’s Boston’s problem

  51. Rudy April 25th, 2009 at 12:13 pm

All you guys calling for Melancon will scream for his head if he struggles in the beginning because you guys all lack patience. Makes me laugh a bit honestly.

  52. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:13 pm

Trevor-Even with no Bruney it looks as if the pen is starting to get it together.

  53. SJ44 April 25th, 2009 at 12:13 pm

Feel bad for Bruney. Sometimes, life ain’t fair.

In Durham this weekend watching my nephew play Duke. Can only follow this series via phone updates.

It’s a shame the roster is failing apart and they are still putrid hitting w/RISP. But, that’s now an annual thing, isn’t it?

Here is what I would do. Joba back to the bullpen. Melancon, Robertson, Albie, Coke and Rivera to join him.

That leaves on spot open. Either Marte or Veras and be done with it. Neither guy is a positive. One just costs more than the other.

Hughes and Kennedy to the rotation. At some point, you have to play prospects and live with their ups and downs.

They have spent hundreds of millions of dollars to watch guys melt here to avoid what’s happening now. Why not go a different way for a change?

Can’t be worse than it is now.

  57. Matty C April 25th, 2009 at 12:14 pm

    I hate this team

  58. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:14 pm

Rudy-I give him this season to struggle a bit, then I turn on him.

  59. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:15 pm

SJ44, how do you feel bad for anyone who plays a game for a living and gets paid more for taking a piss than you make in a year???

  60. 2008 Hasn't Ended April 25th, 2009 at 12:15 pm

I always get a laugh out of the “good karma” people. How much did your “positive energy” work last year? Or 2007? Or 2006? Or 2005? Or 2004? Give me a break. This is terrible news. You can spin it any way that you want, but in the end this is terrible news. Melancon-Bruney-Rivera would’ve been lights out.

It’s NEVER a good thing to lose a reliever that has done the job so far this season. Then again, you are probably the same people that cheer guys like Juicin Cheater Giambi and boo’ed Derek Jeter a few years back. Yea, “real” fans….

  61. Marky Mark Melancon April 25th, 2009 at 12:16 pm

I would guess Bruney is out the year and done with this franchise if it’s Elbow

  62. Rudy April 25th, 2009 at 12:16 pm

dan aka god, it’s sad but true.

Those who comment on these blog are the most two-faced, vindictive fans ever. I barely read the comments for that reason – it’s good for a laugh though.

  63. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:17 pm

SJ44-And you were mad at me for being to quick to go gloom and doom.
We DO have depth guys. You think if this happened last year we’d even have Melancon to bring up? Or Swisher for Nady? Or anybody besides Codey for A-Rod?
It’s just that our backups are forced to play, making us lok like we haveno backups.
When A-Rod comes back you will see, and remember one game does not a series make.

  64. Patrick Bateman April 25th, 2009 at 12:17 pm

As good as Melancon is, he’s still only had a year of minor league play after coming back from the surgery. As much as I’d like to see Melancon, Bruney’s major league experience is really a huge plus.

Lack of depth may ultimately sink this team, ie bench and pen.

  65. Dan April 25th, 2009 at 12:17 pm

I’m so excited about Melancon pitching at the major league level – the guy has been absolutely filthy in Scranton this year.

  66. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:18 pm

2008 Hasn’t Ended-It’s never good to lose a reliever, but it is good to gain a great one.
You watch, we’ll win the series.

  67. Neil April 25th, 2009 at 12:19 pm

Do no worse than put Humberto Sanchez on the 60-day DL list to create 40-man space. He’s been the nearest thing to zero use since the Sheffield deal.
It’s not like the team doesn’t have up and comers on the way.

  68. Trevor April 25th, 2009 at 12:19 pm

SJ has traded sides and joined the other team: “Joba to the pen”.

Really I don’t care to see both Hughes and Kennedy in the rotation. One of them yes but certainly not both.
However adding Joba along with Melancon Robertson and Rivera does sound enticing. :D

  69. Justin C April 25th, 2009 at 12:20 pm

    what? lol

  70. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:20 pm

  71. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:20 pm

    Hopefully great one.

  72. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:21 pm

SJ44 has done a 180. Last time I talked with him he was yelling at me for no liking the pen when they blew open that seventh inning on Opening day.

  73. S.A.--It's a marathon, not a sprint. Calm down. April 25th, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Wait, you would put Joba back in the pen SJ44? Shouldn’t they just stick with the plan instead of this back and forth bullpen vs. starter stuff?

  74. R*d S*x Hater April 25th, 2009 at 12:22 pm

  80. Paddy R April 25th, 2009 at 12:24 pm

danno – no way my man. alby servese up a home run, with bruney unavailable, you live with it and i would not complain. personally, i don’t know why marte is on the team if he’s not coming in for albaladejo there, but that’s not the point. the point is that a 39 year old in april does not need to get stretched out to multi inning saves on a friday night in fenway. that’s not putting your team in the best position to win, even with someone with the track record of rivera.

  81. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:24 pm

hey red sox hater…are you sure your not a mets fan??? typically the mets fans are the idiots who give up on their team in april.

  82. Marky Mark Melancon April 25th, 2009 at 12:25 pm

Right because 10% into the season last year told us Rays vs Phils

I don’t know, he did that last year. Differnt situation, sure (Joba’s 1-0 win) but nevertheless I trust Rivera for over an out.

    That’s what I’m thinking

Is it too early to start drinking? :D

  87. Anthony April 25th, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Come on, everybody, this is not that terrible. So we lost a tight game, it happens. Ransom is hurt, well, it’s not a huge loss for the short term (I know he had a few good games lately, but let’s get real, he’s not a starting quality 3B). Bruney getting hurt is not good since he’s been great for us, but let’s hope it’s not too serious and just some tendinitis that he’ll get over. Robertson and Melancon may be two great pieces for our pen and outside of Mo, everybody else has pitched very well the last two games. Wang is not really hurt, we know that, this is nothing new, he just needs to rest and get himself back together. In the meantime, Hughes will be here in a couple days to start in Detroit. Look at the bright side, it’s only April, have some faith. Did anyone think we were going to sweep in Fenway? If we had won last night, it would have been a huge coup, but we didn’t and that was probably our worst pitching matchup of the series considering that Joba hasn’t been sharp lately. Let’s go AJ.

  88. Patrick April 25th, 2009 at 12:26 pm

SJ44, your plan is really stupid.

  89. Betsy April 25th, 2009 at 12:26 pm

I feel so badly for Bruney – if it’s as bad as I fear. He busted his behind last year to get back and help this team and now this? Melancon is no savior – and I can’t get excited about this. The only reason he’s up is because of injury and ineffectiveness in the pen – no way I am celebrating.

SJ, I can’t put Joba in the pen – and I don’t think the Yankees will, either. If they bring up Phil and put Joba in the pen (or do one of the other, very likely the former), it tells me that they do not have any convictions. Their “plans” for their kids get ripped to shreds when unfortunate things happen at the ML level – so much for learning how to develop pitchers. Phil shouldn’t be up – I’d rather see Ian. If Joba is put in the pen, that completely sets his devlopment as a starter back…..

  90. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:27 pm

Marky Mark Melancon-Yeah, by now everybody knew that the Rays would have no trouble taking the division with relative ease.

    same to you betsy

  94. Teixeiramvp (JobaCyYoung) April 25th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

Betsy-I feel bad for Bruney, and Melancon may be no savior PROBABLY, but he will improve the pen, even w/no Bruney the pen seems to be pitching better.
People forget the vaunted BoSox pen gave up two runs.

  95. Paddy R April 25th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

danno – you can’t plan for extra innings in a 4-2 game. you try to win that game within reason. marte to face a lefty is within reason. a 39 year old closer for 30+ pitches on april 24th is not within reason.

  96. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

melancon is the real deal…..as god i am sending melancon as the savior to completely contredict betsys point

  97. Anthony April 25th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

So, 2008 Hasn’t Ended, your position is that the only way to be a real fan is to believe that our 2009 season is over before April is?

  98. Cal April 25th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

“All these hysterical hannahs. Pitchers get injured. That’s why you can’t have too many good ones. Other teams have these issues, too. Glad – hope? – you’re not sitting in my Section.
    Bad energy people.”

I prefer to call them yellow bellied nellies, :) , but hey it could be wore we could be the Angels with their pitching issues in their rotation. So its not always as bad as it may look, about time other guys stepped up and produce, until some of these situations play themselves out.

We still don’t know the story on Bruney, but glad to see Melancon got the call. Kid is 24 and ready to pitch. That means Robertson, Melancon and Hughes, when he is called up will all be with the big club at once.

  99. Anthony April 25th, 2009 at 12:30 pm

dan aka god, sorry to hear that you don’t have even a 1 minute attention span. how is the burger flipping going? i hear this economy is great for mickey d’s.

  100. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:30 pm

he is your closer, have to go to him in that spot, i cannot be convinced otherwise. if you want to baby him, maybe we should make him a specialist and bring him in for an out at a time.

  101. Marky Mark Melancon April 25th, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Just a heads up since we are at 10% of the season no need to watch until the series begins in OCT…. Jays vs Padres

  102. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:31 pm

at least you took my advice…

  103. Paddy R April 25th, 2009 at 12:32 pm

danno – i guess. just not sure if it’s necessary this early when we have such a versatile pen. i think it’s situational. if it’s bases loaded two out and pujols is up, ok. but i think we need to look to save mo where we can. jacoby no power ellsbury is probably a spot we can save mo.

  104. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:34 pm

i think it was important to get the first win in this series in boston. it would ensure at least a 1-2 series record which ensures no sweep

  105. Anthony April 25th, 2009 at 12:34 pm

It doesn’t take many words to explain why you’re a moron. Actually, you handle the job yourself.

  106. Cal April 25th, 2009 at 12:35 pm

“Phil shouldn’t be up – I’d rather see Ian. If Joba is put in the pen, that completely sets his devlopment as a starter back…..”

Why would you rather see Ian Kennedy over Phil Hughes, because it will hurt his development. I don’t buy that Hughes has been in the big show before and so was Kennedy, we saw the two reactions to being ineffective and hurt. Hughes realized he had to work his way back, while Ian acted like the chosen one and made snide remarks about his performances. He is right where he belongs.

Maybe if Kennedy had a better “attitude” he would have been called up instead.

  107. Anthony April 25th, 2009 at 12:35 pm

More important to get the first win to avoid the sweep? Why they can’t do it today or tomorrow? Makes no sense at all.

  108. Paddy R April 25th, 2009 at 12:35 pm

fair enough. and are you ok with that situation being mo’s first multi inning apperance of the season? that is the bothersome part for me. would like to see that happen somewhere else with an off day to follow (the latter being the most important).

  109. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:35 pm

it hurts so much more when you use proper punctuation

  110. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:37 pm

anthony – you dont know what situation you will be in on sat and sun.
paddy r – it was only an extra out which i think is a lot better than 6 outs. i think too much is being made of 1 out.

  111. Nicole April 25th, 2009 at 12:37 pm

Cal – Coke up there with the others, too. Good to see the guys together again – and at the MLB level

  112. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:37 pm

anthony if that doesnt make sense, then i think we know who the idiot is..

  113. Cal April 25th, 2009 at 12:38 pm

“Just a heads up since we are at 10% of the season no need to watch until the series begins in OCT…. Jays vs Padres”

LOL, tell me about it, oh and we all see how those Marlins are now flying along with their 4 straight defeats. I try to tell people baseball is way too long to get worked up about 1 game, 1 series, 1 week. Its about consistency over a period of time, aka winning more than you lose in a week.

  114. Paddy R April 25th, 2009 at 12:39 pm

very reasonable. i’m not sold but i see your angle. would like to see some consistency from girardi. he didn’t do it 12 days ago in kansas city and then he does it last night. losing both in two different ways really hurts. i don’t think we lose both if he stays consistent (especially if he goes to mo in both spots).

  115. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:39 pm

i hope the yankees can get broxton eventually. by the end of the year he may be the best closer in baseball

  116. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:40 pm

yea – i am not the biggest giradi fan but i think any manager woulda done the same thing. if you wanna kill giradi for something, kill him for bringing CC out for the 7th in that 14 inning game. and then not coming to get him after he gave up a single, or after he gave up a walk, or after the sacrafice, or after the first run scored, or when matt freakin holliday came up

  117. SJ44 April 25th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

it’s not stupid at all. Unfortunately, Joba is needed more by the team now in the pen than he is in the rotation. If not, Veras and Marte are the 8th inning guys. Good luck with that.

CC, AJ, and Andy can log innings. They need to lengthen the pen and they need to take the training wheels off both Hughes and Kennedy and find out if they can get the job done.

In a perfect world, I’d keep Joba in the rotation. Unfortunately, the team needs him more in the pen than the rotation now.

Without the injuries, I would keep Joba in tv

  118. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:42 pm

im just happy torre is gone. that idiot has matt kemp batting 7th in LA!!! what an idiot. do you think he really believes that russel marting is better protecting ethier than kemp??

  119. Paddy R April 25th, 2009 at 12:42 pm

haha don’t worry about that. i had to gamecast that day and i almost broke my computer when cc was left in for holliday. i’m not a girardi fan at all, so i’m hypersensitive to every move he makes as it is, and this year has just been fuel for the fire so far with these blatant blunders. your thoughts on the inconsistency of not brining mo into KC and bringing him into BOS in the same situation (with us losing both games)?

  120. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:44 pm

because its kansas city and not boston. kansas city isnt your biggest rival and competition. they are playing boston for first place in the division. the game is just way more important than the game in kansas city. know what im sayin?

  121. dan aka god April 25th, 2009 at 12:45 pm

when i say playing boston for first place, i mean for the season not for first place last night, obviously toronto is in first place

  122. Paddy R April 25th, 2009 at 12:46 pm

i’m in on that. i just despise losing both using different methods to do it.

  123. pedro's the answer April 25th, 2009 at 2:21 pm

    heres the solution

sign pedro martinez – he’ll take over for wang until he returns – if/when wang returns pedro goes to the bullpen to be the long reliever or 7/8 inning guy (depending on bruney’s elbow)..you keep hughes and ipk and igawa and jackson and larry, moe and curly in the minors where they belong for the rest of the year

if pedro pitches like he did in the wbc you have a solid pitcher with balls of steel for the playoffs (unlike wang) – if he stinks it up you cut him and lose the $5 mil you signed him for…if the yankees are worried about $5 mil at this point in the history of their franchise then maybe we should become the florida marlins…

lets not make history repeat itself by bringing up not ready for primetime pitchers from the minors that aren’t going to do the job yet…

  124. Rick April 25th, 2009 at 5:07 pm

sj you are right….chamberlain in the pen is where the yankees can use him most…..hughes and kennedy deserve another shot
