Why even bring up Claggett to begin with? Any chance someone’s call got over-ruled here, or is this just about the weather?
That was a good move. Especially knowing how patient the Sox are, as we know Hughes and Joba can throw 100 pitches in 5 innings. I hope they keep him up here and it wasn’t just for today or tomorrow incase of a rain delay.

Thank you God in heaven and baseball gods. I was calling for a long reliever before the Yankees broke camp. I don’t care what reason they had for not having one, only that they finally got one.

Ok, so Aceves is up.
I would think Alfredo would spot start if there’s a need, but who’s next up should the Yanks need an extra pitcher?
CMW is in dry-dock and so is Ian Kennedy, so I’m somewhat curious if we’d get the Ghost of Kei Igawa or something along those lines…….
Nice to see a “long reliever” in the pen. Let’s hope his services won’t be needed anytime soon!!
What I mean is, I am all for our starters taking us into the 7th or longer on a consistent basis.
Aceves impressed me last year with how he pitched. I hope he can continue that and help our pen put up more scoreless innings.
OK, Someone Please Explain this to me, And Maybe there is something I don’t get or not smart enough to get, and if that is the case, I will as Alex Emanuel said “Take my Medicine”
Why are the yanks unwilling to part ways with Veras or Ramirez? I know that they are out of options… but what would be the big deal about losing them? What is the risk? Yet they will waste options on guys like Clagget and Jackson, who are untested and unused but have a higher ceiling then the aforementioned Veras/Ramirez side show. Please someone explain that logic.

Who said the Yankees are unwilling? Then again, we are 1 month into the season and the Yankees have to give these 2 players(who contributed in 08) a chance to correct the flaws and pitch better.
To give up on them now is NOT the right move. Yes they have pitched terribly and yes they are giving up many runs, but there is a chance they will improve, turn this around. If they are, they must be given the opportunity.
Maybe Alfredo has a rubber arm.

AD-Who’s to say the pitchers being sent down or not called up have higher ceilings??
There is obviously a good reason why Veras & Ramirez made the team this year.
The “kids” who have not yet been called up or who have been and struggled might not be superior to Veras & Ramirez.
The prospects that some people want to see in the pen, in the games when it’s close could also fail and have very high ERA’s. If and when that happens, who do we turn to next?

So when Melancon and Bruney(again) start having arm problems(overuse) cause veras and ramirez cant hit the side of a barn, I guess it would have been a good idea to stick with them because Jose and Edwar were good for a couple of months in early 2008?

great point about which players have options remaining.
it seems like those numbers are rarely made public, so for the fans like us, we can only guess about who has options and how many options a player has remaining.
this could be a case where both Veras & Ramirez are out of options, so sending them down would expose them to waivers, thus losing them all together!
i have not given up on either pitcher. if we have someone else that excels and gets outs, then i support that pitcher joining the team
Aceves unscored upon in his last 14 innings. he was very scored upon in his first eight, but he’s the best available option at AAA. Claggett gets paid for the one day back in the bigs, right?
And Scranton’s pitching has pretty much been milked to its limit now, unless you want Igawa back or Casey Fossum

what does this mean “waste options”?
the options have been used whether or not Jackson or Clagett pitch in the majors this year.

also, Jackson does NOT have a higher ceiling than Veras. not sure where you are pulling that from.

It is not a big deal.
They still have two years of options.
If they do not make it in two years, they will not be on 40 any way. It can happen as early as this off-season when they have to protect more talented pitchers.

I’d have chosen Tomko, especially because he has an out clause in his contract. So does Fossum. I’m sure Tomko sees some writing on the wall. Forgot about him in my last post
