Swisher set for return tonight

Peter Abraham

Two things:

• Joe Girardi said on WFAN that Nick Swisher is tentatively in the lineup tonight.

• Several people sent me this link about A.J.Burnett’s home theater, which is literally a theater. It’s worth checking out. He even has a lobby.

Meanwhile, I have no idea whether the game is going to be played. I’m here, the tarp is down, it’s not raining at the moment. Once I know, I will let you know. Promise.

    game will be canceled

  2. Tex's Friend (CC, Phil, Joba, Pettitte and AJ are best starting 5 ever)

    or we will win 22-0

  3. Bad Scooter

I hope Swish is close to 100%. We all know that Da Gardy at 100% is better than Swish at 50%. I think.

  4. sjufan

    play baseball

  5. DonnieBaseball

We need Swisher back. Not that he is the savior but our depth (once a strength) is just terrible right now. If we can get Swisher healthy, Nady back, Bruney back, Wang back, ARod back, and Tex healthy then look out. But there are a ton of “ifs” there…

  6. D

    Game will not be canceled.

  7. AJ

I saw Swish walking on the Upper East Side yesterday. He had his elbow wrapped in an ace bandage and was yapping away on the phone. Rock star.

  8. Bad Scooter

I’m pretty sure they will not cancel the game. Postpone maybe, but not cancel.

  9. D-Train

    Kay making some good points

I don’t think Joe said anything wrong, but I can understand what Kay is saying— he isin’t resorting to sensationalism like Sherman and Wally Matthews did.

  10. Bad Scooter

Swish was just getting into one of his hot streaks, too. Hope he can pick up right where he left off.

  11. Grey 44

Gardy is raking the ball.. hitting almost as well as Teixeria is.

  12. Yankee U

The game won’t be cancelled this afternoon. Maybe after people get there, pay for parking and but a few beers and Hot dogs but not before the gates open.

  13. Mark

These types of games are when you need a long man.

What if the game starts and there is a delay in the 3rd inning? Then who comes in when the game is resumed? We have to burn through the bullpen.

  14. CaptainsCorner

Hopefully the real Tex comes to the stadium tonight…

  15. right center gap in NY

One postponed game is more than enough. Another today would be terrible.
Depending on the forecast, if the game tonight is “washed out”, perhapy they might play 2 tomorrow!!

  16. C

swisher will probably go into a slump

  17. Mike R

The media (Pete in particular) constantly whined and complained that Girardi wasn’t open and honest enough with them last year.

This year Girardi speaks his mind about his opinion on the book, and all of a sudden he’s out of line for being honest.

It’s a good thing Girardi and A-Rod are Yankees, otherwise the media people would have to actually write stories about…BASEBALL.

  18. Hokiehill

the best part about that theater is the bar with the pub-style seats in the back. looks like a good spot and you have elevation over the first row of recliners…whenever I win the lottery I plan to use this design for my own theater. thanks AJ.

  19. D

swisher will probably go 4-4 tonight and start a long streak

  20. Mike R

“Michael Kay is the biggest loser on earth. I would rather listen to William Hung sing the HMS Pinafore than Michael Kay.”

Of course you would rather hear William Hung. Why would anyone want to hear Michael Kay sing the HMS Pinafore?

  21. AJ

I think Kay is a lot better on the radio than he is on TV. A little less sensored than he can be on the YES Network.

  22. Betsy

Someone posted in a previous thread that Tom Verducci said he’s willing to give a pass to Joe as he was not thinking straight? Huh? Joe sounded perfectly lucid to me. This pavlovian reaction by the media to protect their free speech is ludicrous. I doubt they were even listening to what Joe said. Not once did he ever suggest that tell-all trashy books shouldn’t be published; he just questioned the motivation. I’ve said it before, but this is one time that the media won’t be able to lead the people around like sheep. People with brains will understand exactly what Joe said; people with ears will hear those words Joe said (and not pretend he was trying to censor a book) and people with hearts will feel for what Joe was trying to do (back his player, who could use some support). The media is nothing but a pack of vicious hounds on the scent of a new story. They really are making themselves look bad.

  23. YankeeDiva

I’m confused…aren’t we suppose to dislike players for spending outrageous money like AJ did on his home theater? Why are you promoting it Pete? I mean we were “suppose” to dump all over Arod for driving a 6 figure car around when he could clearly afford to drive a simple $30,000 car. Can AJ watch is movies on a $1,000 32 inch flat screen?

  24. Zach in Port Jeff

They’ll try to avoid a double header with Boston at all costs. Too many reasons why.

Since you asked, I think the only occasion when Kay is tolerable on TV is when Paulie is in the booth with him.
    Do you agree?
    Disagree?

Paulie brings out the “real person” in Kay. For whatever reason the joking and ribbing that Paulie has a knack for doing on air enables Kay to just be himself, and not some persona that most of us have learned to dislike.

Makes some very good points about the whole Arod fiasco.

I hope they get the game in or this will be my second game rained out so far this season.

  30. AJ

I love Paulie, but I actually think it’s more distracting when he is in the booth with Kay. The two get tend to joke way too much and forget about the gmae going on…which I guess is ok when losing by 7 and the bullpen not looking good.

Tom Verducci probably still hasn’t gotten over getting kicked off YES’s Hot Stove show for being too negative about the Yankees. He’s done a good rip-job of all things Yankees since then, so I’m sure him defending Selena Roberts and ripping a) people who doubt her book’s legitimacy b) Joe Girardi c) the Yankees are all no-brainers for him.

As for tonight’s game why don’t you people wait until around 5 to start bandying about your predictions about whether the weather will cooperate or not.

  32. Doreen

    I love the lobby!

Actually, HGTV had a show on (forget which one) where they showed people putting home theaters very similiar to AJ’s in their basements. Was very cool.

  33. Henry Chinaski

I can say this about Burnett’s system: whoever put it together knows their top-end gear.

Pairing B&W speakers w/a McIntosh amp would create a sound field to make you weep.

For those who don’t have the $$$ for B&W, I’d recommend investing in Paradigm speakers. They are Canadian gems.

Equipment from Canada is always a wise route as it can be up to 30% cheaper than its American or European counterparts. This is attributable to the fact that the Canadian government foots the bill for R&D.

  34. Andrew

So, Pete, you ready to give up on Selena Roberts yet? She’s getting more negative criticism for this book than ARod.

Chilling exchange on WFAN today between her and Craig Carton, in which she wouldn’t apologize for her public lynching of the Duke Lacrosse players.

Pretty clear she’s a very sick individual. More sick than ARod. Link below.

They won’t cancel the game until at least an hour after start time, just like Sunday.

I was there – the field was soaked and the rain forecast called for non-stop all day.

The greedy Yanks just wanted to get people into the stadium for a couple of hours to spend money and then cancel the game once the coffers were full.

I am starting to wonder why I still like this team.

  36. RS

Just thought I’d mention this for those of you who are upset about ticket prices at the new stadium.

Last Saturday, I bought tickets to the Yankees/Angels game just hours before gametime. The seats were in section 111 (field level) that sell for about $100. I bought each seat for $30 on stubhub. Those are the seats which are big and cushioned, allow access to every part of the stadium, and even offer in-seat service. Each seat had a little menu in the cupholder and a “waitress” came to take our order and deliver our food.

Pretty neat considering I spent just a tad more than the regular price of grandstand seats. So basically, you can find great seats for great prices if you look in the right places.

  37. thunderbolt!

I’d be a lot less upset if he had been accused of cow-tipping

why couldn’t it have been cow-tipping?

  38. swisher's guru

are her sources for the whole pitch-tipping thing as weak as her excuse for not apologizing to the duke players??
she needs to get a life.

  39. Rose

    AJ

I agree. Paul and Kay joke around too much. The worst thing Paul does is talking when the pitcher is delivering the pitch.

I like the job Singleton and Cone do when it’s only the 2 of them doing the game.

  40. Tantron Willoughby

I wonder if A.J. can justify his theater with a few more victories? Must be nice to have guaranteed money for sub par production?
