Wave Your Hat

You said:

Cashman had no choice with Jorge – that’s not a fair criticism. What catcher would you have signed instead?

Often — even usually — the best thing to do is say bye, bye.

A four year contract for a soon-to-be 37 year old catcher is a prescription for exactly what the Yankees got last year and are getting this year so far. If you like it, then you should want them to stay right on the same track.

This what happens when you give a catcher in his late 30’s a 4 year deal. I can’t wait till Cash gives Captain No range a 4 year deal which includes the right to stay at SS cause Cash is a wimp.

Ding, ding, ding!!!! Bull's eye!

Did anyone else notice that Girardi had Posada trying to steal second several times in games over the weekend?

I will bet you anything that Posada initially tweaked his hamstring pretending he was Carl Crawford. He then aggravated it further running the bases.

Looks like our boy Girardi has anti-Midas disease. He's the man with the fecal touch. I wish Donnie Baseball were running this team.

Why do people keep saying A-Rod is "the best player in the game"? He's not. Pujols is.

Average VORP since start of 2001 (Pujols's first season):

Pujols 84.21
A-Rod 67.55

Last 5 seasons:

Pujols 87.68
A-Rod 70.08

Last 3 seasons:

Pujols 86.3
A-Rod 68.97

"I know from dealing with them on a daily basis that the Yankees have some security people who are very aggressive."

Yeah, last year I wasn't leaving the stadium fast enough for one of the security guards. It was my last game at the old stadium and I wanted to soak it all in one more time (as were the other 1,500 or so fans that were still there). Anyway, he threatened to have me arrested if I didn't leave immediately. Great customer service.

I havn't read all the comments yet, but why can't the Yankees just call up Jesus Montero. I've seen this guy play numerous times and he seems like the real deal. Since Molina would most likely end up being the everyday catcher (Pudge was a bad idea last year), then why can't we have a young guy come up and get his feet wet?

"Because if we amateurs can think of these things, sure as heck SOMEONE in the Yankee organization sees it, too."

doreen-
don't be so sure the gap between what the blog knows and what the yankees management knows is as big as you think.

first of all there is a huge collective reservoir of experiences on the blog from an array of professions. i really do think the blog was collectively ahead of the yankees in analyzing wang's problem .

I just remember them doing lot's of sprints and always running with the pitchers, much more than the position players....Sarasota, I popped up vs. Tommy John there, back when he could bring it....

pat m-
there's a lot going on with catchers legs that you wouldn't think of. for instance, when you haven't caught for a while, the tendons and ligaments in your feet aren't stretched out and they burn like a b$%%%%% during early long periods of being in a crouch.

there's also a lot of running if the the catcher does his job backing up throws to first.

i once had a long talk with carleton fisk when he was with the white sox in sarasota spring training where he told me how he worked out after games and what he did. he did a lot of weight work with squats and lunges.

the point he got across to me was that you had to do extra rehab/prehab work or your legs if you wanted to catch at 40.
