Saturday night fever

The Yankees are 1-4 and have been outscored 59-30 on Saturday this season. That doesn’t mean anything, necessarily. It’s just sort of strange.

Here’s how the worst day of the week has gone:

April 11: Beat Kansas City 6-1

April 18: Lost 22-4 against Cleveland

April 25: Lost 16-11 at Boston

May 2: Lost 8-4 against Los Angeles

May 9: Lost 12-5 at Baltimore

Coming next Saturday: Twins at Yankees, 1:05 p.m.

Unfortunately, if they keep playing like this, they will not be stayin’ alive, and I’ll need a fifth of Jack, not a Fifth of Beethoven, to deal with it. The Manhattan Skyline is looking cloudy right now, because the last week has been one big Calypso Breakdown, and they’re all playing like they’re little More Than A Woman. But no one should ask any of them, “How Deep Is Your Love for the game”, because that’s nothing but Jive Talkin’. They just need to get their stuff together, put on their Boogie Shoes, and the end result? You Should ALL Be Dancing.

I have way too much time on my hands, and I am REALLY not sure how many people are even going to appreciate that.

I’ll be attending next Saturday’s game. After the price I paid on StubHub, they’d better not drop it.

If there are any bright spots to this season so far it comes from the offense – damon has been absolutely electric so far this season and matsui since draining his knees is hitting about 333 as susan waldman pointed out tonight. Cano is in a slump and is still hitting well over 300 for the year and swisher isnt doing too bad himself with an obp over 400. Despite all tex’s troubles early on, his obp is also particularly high compared to his average. This is why i really like tex and swisher when we picked them up. Among other things, they both definitely know how to take walks and work the count even when mired in a horrific slump. We are one of the best in baseball in on base percentage and considering that arod has played two games and nady and posada are both on the dl, that is pretty damn good.

Joba has also been solid and CC showed yesterday why he is one of the best starters in the game. I am sure yesterday was only the beginning for him. We dont have our second best starter and our pitching staff on paper is still one of the better staffs in baseball. So while it is easy to despair and say this team sucks and we arent going anywhere, there are also far more positives on this team than most that are a couple games under 500. We will have to wait and see for what tomorrow brings but trust me, this team is not even close to as bad as they have played in the last month and if you look close enough, there are a ton of reasons to stay optimistic.

Cano has one nonintentional walk in his last 20 games. So much for Long turning him into a patient hitter.

    You left out melky, dave.

I always loved “How Deep is Your Pen” although it runs a distant second to the classic “Stayin in 3rd”

how can this team have the worst ERA in baseball?

How is that possible? WHo is at fault? who would have ever thought this team would have such a bad pitching staff.. It is inconceivable…It is a disgrace, plain and simple. they have a worse era then the nats., then the indians, then milwaukeee, how is that possible?????????????

  18. Rgr May 10th, 2009 at 2:30 am

Yeah I saw these stats in obscure sports quarterly.

  19. Wei May 10th, 2009 at 2:57 am

Stuart: Considering wang’s 3 games of BP sessions on the mount, it wouldn’t be strange that Yanks have the worst ERA in baseball.

I am not too worried though. It takes a bit time but they will turn around.

It is just weirdness and bad luck did Hughes in today in that 2nd inning. And he has 1-2 on several batters too. He just can not finish it, giving up hits after hits to those batters.
