Taking the blog to new heights

This is my 10th trip to Toronto and I finally went to the top of the famed CN Tower yesterday. It’s right next to the Rogers Centre and a friend convinced me that we should go check it out.

The Tower is the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere. We could see as far away as Rochester, N.Y., because it was such a clear day.

This shot is of the glass floor that you can stand on and look straight down. It was a bit dizzying:

Finally, here is downtown Toronto from above:

You can read more about the CN Tower here.

    Wonderful city, T.O.

Going back there in 2 weeks!

The whole glass floor thing is slightly terrifying.

Pete, did you see Joslyn Morse why you were there?

  4. raymagnetic May 14th, 2009 at 12:14 pm

Looks just like Manhattan from the aerial views. No wonder they film so many “New York” movies in Canada.

Pete, can you really see the building from Rochester, or did you jutting pull a Sarah Palin?

  5. lswaha May 14th, 2009 at 12:17 pm

    Wow…Quite scary.

  6. Jake May 14th, 2009 at 12:18 pm

Yeah, If I didn’t know any better I thought that first pic was Madison Square Garden

I imagine you really can see Rochester–you can see all the way into Kansas from the top of Pike’s Peak in Colorado.

I got pretty high last time I visited Toronto as well. It’s a great city.

And you can totally see Ro-cha-cha and other NY cities on a clear day from the CN Tower. It’s across the lake, but only 150 or so miles as the crow flies.

Great pics, Pete! I can see it now! Lonn Trost gets fired by the Yanks for this huge PR blunder and ensuing attitude on the premium seat prices, the moat, and the general attitude around it.

Toronto hires him in the off season. Suddenly, next year, the Jays and the owners of CNN tower join forces and introduce “Skyview Seats” where you look down at the Jays games through that glass floor in the CNN tower. Price? $1,000 a seat. Hey, you can see Rochester on a nice day, right?

After a season with much of the hubbub we’re experiencing here now, the price for “Skyview” seats on a rainy day would be reduced to $100. Because you can’t see Rochester anymore? Nope. They’re “Obstructed View” seats when the roof is closed!

“I got pretty high last time I visited Toronto as well. It’s a great city.”

What is it about those crazy Canadiens and their pot? Fun-loving people, they are.

Pete, I’m writing this from my dingy office while looking at a stack of papers and a list of phone calls that have to be made. I must say, you have a very cool job. I’m sure it has lots of drawbacks and things you hate – but looking at those pictures, wow.

Another win tonight would be nice.

You KNOW this weekend is going to be a Zoo.

Look, there’s the Xerox plant, and if you squint hard enough, you can see The House of Guitars.

Toronto is a great city. Unfortunately the day I went up to the top of the tower, it was overcast and rainy. I thought the Rogers Centre was a nice place to see a game. The roof was open when I was there. You can look up and see the tower. Stadium was very clean, good sight lines, great scoreboard, nothing not to like. Pete characterized it as ” dreary “, but I disagree. The place is much nicer than the dump down in St. Pete.

I loved Toronto and it is my favorite city next to NY.
I also loved The Skydome (which is what it was called when I was there..and what i will always call it).
Had a great time up there and will go back one day soon.

Is the end of the Annual Rule 4 Amateur Draft upon us with this ruling?

Did you find the trip up, in the “outside” elevator, scary? I was too scared to go up… one day I will do it.

I’ve always wanted to go to Toronto to catch a game.

I really wish the Expos were still in business. Montreal’s a great city. Not that there’s anything wrong with Washington DC because I would highly recommend going there but a baseball game in Montreal? You could probably get some slammin french fries with gravy & cheese curds. (poutine)

I would also love to see a MLB team in New Orleans.

Any teams out there looking to move?

  25. deangelo May 14th, 2009 at 1:54 pm

I’m surprised they let pete up there….isn’t there a max weight you can be to stand on the glass floor? Weird…I bet pete had to go through the wind blowing x-ray machine twice..

  26. Al May 14th, 2009 at 1:56 pm

On a ridiculously clear day, you can actually see Toronto from Rochester.

  27. Aaron May 14th, 2009 at 2:02 pm

To bad the dome wasnt open its a much beter view from the CN tower.

  28. Matt (In Toronto) May 14th, 2009 at 2:19 pm

I live 25 minutes from Toronto and I’ve never been up there. I was downtown all yesterday, I should have checked it out.

  29. Michelle May 14th, 2009 at 2:54 pm

funny story – I was in Toronto a long time ago (college days) and we went to the top of the CN Tower. . I am deathly afraid of heights and was teetering close to, but by no means on top of, those glass windows in the floor. . . A stranger came up behind me and gave me a little push – I screamed bloody murder as I was never so afraid in my life. . . and then of course, we all had a good laugh. but can you imagine doing that to a total stranger??

have fun Pete – enjoy the great city and hopefully our boys pull out a win today!

  30. Jenna May 14th, 2009 at 6:10 pm

Just catching up on the blog now, hello back from Rochester!

  31. David May 15th, 2009 at 9:53 am

Toronto is a great city. Have been there many times. Next time eat in the revolving restaurant about 2/3′a of the way up the tower.
