There was no walk-off magic for the Yankees yesterday as they fell to the Phillies. Sam Borden has the pie-less story.

Brian Bruney can’t figure out what is wrong with his elbow. This notebook also has updates on Melky Cabrera, Hideki Matsui and Derek Jeter.

Yanks-Rangers today at 2:05. Phil Hughes returns to the scene of his almost glory.

Texas has been a state of horrors for Yankee pitchers the last couple of years:

    * Hughes tears his hammy in May of ’07

    * Wang suffers the freak Lisfranc injury running the bases in Houston in June of ’08

    * Joba has that shoulder issue in Aug of ’08

Welcome back, Pete. It has been a long week. Best wishes tPhil, JOBA, and AJ for this series. Three “w’s” in the win column would be great. It appears the Yanks need to add another Stat to the columns. 1. Who gets the most pies in the face, and 2. Who gets the WWw gold belt the most.

How do you think Joba will be in his next start after being hit in the leg? If he can’t push off his right leg – he can’t be effective. Still my favorite pitcher.

Gad – the Ranger pitchers are bad today. Makes me want to put on the old spikes and ask –put me in coach.
