How ’bout those Cowboys?

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on May 26, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Here it is, the epicenter of evil. The new home of the Dallas Cowboys.

The new stadium is just a few blocks away from Rangers Ballpark and it pretty much blots out the sky. Saying the place is big doesn’t do it justice. It makes the new Yankee Stadium look like a popsicle stand. It’s like a giant alien craft touched down.

The place holds 80,000 for football and can expand to 100,000 for other events. There are 200 suites and 15,000 club seats. The video board will be 180 feet in length and 50 feet high.

So next time somebody complains that the Yankees built a ridiculously large stadium, tell them about this place. The Yankees built a cozy little place by comparison.

I’d love to catch a game there…. you know…. if Texas plays a home game there

  2. blindmoole May 26th, 2009 at 12:34 am

Horrifying … looks like a cylon … hope i never experience a game there … and also i hope my team never suffers a loss there.

  3. Avi May 26th, 2009 at 12:34 am

all we need now is for the jet streams in there to carry the football 100 yards when the quarterback throws to clear yankee stadium of it’s faults

Nothing like a posh new place to forget the Cowboys’ propensity for dismal Decembers.

I heard there’s an underground tunnel that takes the wealthy directly to the sidelines

  6. Joe May 26th, 2009 at 12:38 am

The newest example of capitalistic largesse.

  7. David May 26th, 2009 at 12:39 am

The stadium looks badass. I wonder if they make you check bags at a bowling alley too.

“I heard there’s an underground tunnel that takes the wealthy directly to the sidelines”

I had heard they’re beamed in like Star Trek.

  9. Avi May 26th, 2009 at 12:41 am

wow, just read about tampa bay’s collapse today in the 9th. how the hell does that happen? i would cry if that happened to the yankees.

  10. JoeT 28 in 10!! MELKY FOR MVP!!!! May 26th, 2009 at 12:42 am

ok so who saw Mr. T at the Cubs game??

    I pitty the Pirates!!

  11. Nick in SF May 26th, 2009 at 12:43 am

And they built a seperate structure for Jerry Jones’ ego?

  12. Pel (Uncertainty is certain.) May 26th, 2009 at 12:44 am

    >I had heard they’re beamed in like Star Trek.

If it makes you feel any better, once they dematerialize, technically, their dead.

That stadium is going to be one of if not the best in the world. I read that if the US receives their bid for the World Cup(2018 I think or 2014), this will probably be the site of the Final I would guess.

  18. m May 26th, 2009 at 12:58 am

    Everything’s big in Texas.

Looks like it’s going to be an awesome facility that’ll put some pretty coin into the Yankee coffers with its Legends joint concession venture.

They’re also hosting the NBA ASG next season.

  19. Nick in SF May 26th, 2009 at 12:59 am

    very well done, JoeT.

  20. Emobacca May 26th, 2009 at 1:03 am

  22. Onkel Bob May 26th, 2009 at 1:22 am

“It’s like a giant alien craft touched down.” Like? It’s Texas, are you sure aliens haven’t landed there are setting up shop? I’ve seen those Hulu commercials and I suspect those brain sucking aliens started their work down there long ago.
Are they going to host high school games in it?

  23. Art Vandelay May 26th, 2009 at 1:23 am

I wonder if the Cowboys will have the same problem selling high-end seats like the Yankees had.

    I hate the Cowboys.

  24. Kevin S. May 26th, 2009 at 1:35 am

Epicenter of evil? I may have sympathies towards the G-Men, and thus have no love lost for the Cowboys, but this Dolphin fan knows that Belichick operates the Death Star out of Foxboro.

  25. Pepitone's Hairdryer May 26th, 2009 at 1:49 am

Architectural lines are very similar to Jerry’s new face. Had to be a two-fer deal.

  29. Tyler May 26th, 2009 at 7:04 am

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS! i hate the cowboys. and yankee stadium is 1000 times better than this dump

  30. RhapsodyInBlue May 26th, 2009 at 7:44 am

You had better visit the record book, the Cowboys have been to a record 8 Superbowls and won 5, along with an NFL record number of play-off games.

*”Nothing like a posh new place to forget the Cowboys’ propensity for dismal Decembers.”

  31. Rafael May 26th, 2009 at 7:53 am

a big stage to Giants kick their ass

  32. Doreen May 26th, 2009 at 8:02 am

Looks like a cross between some futuristic football-shaped building and a huge casserole dish!

Rather inauspicious outing for David Price yesterday. 6K’s, though in 3-1/3 (but 5 BBs).

Gee, so maybe new guys have an adjustment period?

More information about the up-and-coming players, more information about the baseball draft, translates into much higher expectations, I think. The information is good. I think the fanbase (and the media) has to learn to be more realistic, though.

  33. Harry K May 26th, 2009 at 8:03 am

Can’t wait till the Giants beat them to a pulp in it, as long as the jetstream doesn’t make tony homo a hall of famer

  34. Pete May 26th, 2009 at 8:16 am

    >>I wonder if the Cowboys will have the same problem selling high-end seats like the Yankees had. >>

For 8 games a year? Probably not.

Selling ridiculously expensive seats for 80 games a year is a much more formidable task.

    @Kevin S – exactly.

  35. RhapsodyInBlue May 26th, 2009 at 8:21 am

It’s great to feel so much love from all the NY Ant fans with their 3 measely Superbowl victories.

They looked great down the stretch last season too.

  36. Vince May 26th, 2009 at 8:23 am

No matter what venue the Cowboys build, Jerry Jones will still be seen on the sidelines where he doesn’t belong.

  37. RhapsodyInBlue May 26th, 2009 at 8:24 am

Maybe the G-Men will do better this season if they can find a faster convict at running back or a wide-out who remembers to leave his glock in the glove compartment when he goes clubbing.

“Here it is, the epicenter of evil. ”

Sorry Pete. But that little stadium in Foxborough, MA is the epicenter of evil.

  39. JohnC May 26th, 2009 at 9:24 am

How fitting the Giants will be the ones christening the new stadium in week 2 on Sunday Night Football. Hope Jacobs scores 3 that night and they romp!

  40. Kevin from Edmonton May 26th, 2009 at 9:31 am

    >>> “Here it is, the epicenter of evil. ”

Sorry Pete. But that little stadium in Foxborough, MA is the epicenter of evil.<<<

Ted just beat me to the punch. As a Colts fan I can assure you I consider Foxborough one of Dante’s seven levels of hell.

It is the the “epicenter of evil” – It’s Mordor.

“Here it is, the epicenter of evil. The new home of the Dallas Cowboys.”

    LMFAO!

  43. YankeesLuv May 26th, 2009 at 12:01 pm

The place looks alright, have to see the inside to have a real opinion on it though. I know it cost over a billion to build it, can’t imagine what it would have cost in New York.

  44. Matt May 26th, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Im a Cowboys fan and saw this place when we went down for a game in December…Pete hit is right on the head, it looks like an alien spaceship…The first thing I thought of was Tom Cruise War of the Worlds….But either way, pretty excited to go inside

  45. PittsburghYankeeFan May 26th, 2009 at 5:52 pm

The epicenter of evil is Fenway Park.

  46. Soxh8r May 26th, 2009 at 7:29 pm

Heard Fenway has problems with rat infestation. Nice dump for the Bandwagon nation.

  47. jd713 May 26th, 2009 at 10:35 pm

stop with the tired old alien jokes there tired and not funny.. a regular stadium is that much less of a eyesore? right .. clueless man..

this place is going to be sick . from a bussiness standpoint (not a fan’s) jerry jones is one of the best salesmen in sports history!. 1.1 billion for a retractable stadium that has already has scheduled a ton of events and will make the community’s money back way before the new jets/giants will because of of the roof.

    http://www.dallasnews.com/shar.....84b10.html

every new stadium espcially baseball(hey no more rainouts novel idea?) should have a retractable roof so they could host other events super bowl in new york? not now .. detroit? sure why not.. new york is the perfect city (outside of vegas) for the super bowl ..

  48. saucy May 27th, 2009 at 12:02 pm

    looks amazing.

hopefully it doesn’t help the team that plays in it.
