No room at the inn for the Yankees
The Yankees usually stay in the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Cleveland, an elegant establishment befitting their lofty status as America’s most beloved and revered sports franchise.
But the Yankees, who have a large traveling party, were unceremoniously booted out this weekend. A Saudi Arabian princess is in Cleveland to have surgery at the famed Cleveland Clinic and booked up the entire hotel to accommodate her retinue of handlers. She wanted 90 — that’s right, 90 — rooms. And you thought Vincent Chase had an entourage.
The Ritz was able to find space for the Orlando Magic, who are here for the NBA playoffs. But there was no room for the Yankees. So as Dwight Howard and the oil billionaires chill in the Ritz, the Yankees are elsewhere, mostly park benches, bus stations and youth hostels.

They can come stay at my place. I’m in Chicago; that’s not far from Cleveland, right?
Maybe they can stay at CC’s house….Im sure he has enough room
Can they all fit in CC’s luxury suite for the game tonight??
Ha ha, funny.
Crde pops out. Game over, leadoff hitter is out. And after a three zero count.
Bad at bat.
It’s fun to stay at the
Y
M
C
A
Papelbon heating up.
Another strike.
Single.
Maybe I spoke too soon. HR ties it.
Ball 1.
Foul.
Idiot. Why swing? Work your way on, you’re the tying run you knucklehead.
It looks like we might have rain on Sat and Mon in CLE.
CC has his room locked up with Lebron, that’s for sure. I’m sure there is a Comfort Inn somewhere around there. How many people can you fit in YOUR room Pete? You might be able to make a few bucks subletting your room.
Young flies out. Two down.
All up to pinch hitter Buscher.
game over
1 and 2 on Buscher.
2 and 2 on Buscher.
the Melkman, Gardner, Wang, and Hughes should stay in a 4 bunk bed room hostel and bond
Strike three, there’s your ball game guys.
Red Sox win by two.
They are in an offensive slump though and haven’t played great ball lately, so let’s see.
Back to 2nd place. DANG!
We’re tied in the loss column.
First place felt so good for a couple of hours.
Minnesota split with Boston… they did what they had to do.
Hard to win a 4 game series.
Potch, we’re tied in the loss column.
Newsflash, guys: We didn’t play today.
the W goes to the ump for this one.
Oh well, back to 2nd place
maybe Toronto can stop their bleeding this weekend against the Sox and take 2 out of 3
Nah, Pel, Sox still would have won 2-1.
“the Melkman, Gardner, Wang, and Hughes should stay in a 4 bunk bed room hostel and bond”
IDK according to sources they seem pretty heated towards each other.
It just… Felt GOOD to be in 1st place again… Even if only for about 14 hours.
But, despite being tied in the loss column, a half-game back is still a half-game back.
Okay, there’s a guy calling in to complain about our offense and that we are hitting too many HRs. Who are these people?
Potch-Not really. With all games played, we’re tied in the loss comun we’re tied.
comun is column.
Ahead in wins but behind in losses means all games haven’t been finished.
God, do any of you understand baseball standings? Its the loss column that counts.
If you are going to go all Debbie Downer on here at least have a clue on how to read the standings.
this post reminds me of the movie “Coming to America” ha
Cleo McDowell: “I don’t care who you are. This is America, Jack. Say another word about Lisa, and I’ll break my foot off in your royal a**. “
I’m getting scared b/c Francesa knows Austin Jackson
Laura, you’re right. How dare our offense hit too many HR’s!
We should be bunting Damon and Jeet over when Tex and A-Rod come to the plate!
“Okay, there’s a guy calling in to complain about our offense and that we are hitting too many HRs. Who are these people?”
It was a prank caller.

Guys, WE DIDN”T PLAY TODAY.
“this post reminds me of the movie “Coming to America””
One of Eddie’s best movies. Still holds up today.
WTH is that caller talking about, P.S. if the Yankees want a RF his name is Ryan Sweeney he’s in Oakland.
you know w/ all the NYS specials talked about in regards to Tex’s numbers by the enemy(nespn), hit homeruns in Arlington were absolute bombs
>Nah, Pel, Sox still would have won 2-1.
You can’t say that with any certainty.
You can’t say the twins would’ve won with any certainty.
You can say with certainty that the quality of decisions made by the plate umpire had a substantial impact on the game.
Thus, he gets the W. It was all about him today.
“It was a prank caller.”
Thank God. It would be very upsetting if that was a real Yankee fan.
Re-posting because we moved threads. Klaw’s thought’s on Tony for ya, SJ44 -
Ray (Boston): How do you see the major league prospects for Tony Sanchez? With the exception of power and feel for the game, his grades in the scouting report are average to below average, yet he’s still #30 on your board.
SportsNation Keith Law: He’s #30 because he’s a catcher – an average bat and an average or fringe-average defensive catcher is still a pretty good prospect, at least in terms of asset value. And that’s what I think he is – he’s an everyday catcher who hits for power but not a great average.

Prank calls to Francessa is childish. You and Pa need to stop making them.
Years ago I was in Cleveland for a friend’s wedding and we stayed at the Marriott right by the Jake. . . We went to the game on Friday (Yankees were in town) and returned to the hotel after the game. An hour or so later, the team walked right into the hotel – and the hotel bar, where we chatted with them for hours. . .
maybe the Yankees can “step down” for the weekend and stay at the Renaissance, Crowne Plaza or Marriot. But if those don’t work there is always Motel 6 or Howard Johnson
Pel-All right.
Jeez, cool your jets guys.
I understand the loss column tie. All I’m saying is when you look at the standings tomorrow, we’re not at the top. It felt good to BE at the top today.
Trust me, I’m no downer. What bandwagons of doom have you seen me on? None. I still firmly believe this is going to be a great year for us with a return to the playoffs.
But with the way the team was playing just two weeks ago, it felt REAL good to be in first place, even if only for a day. And, despite the tie in the loss column, we’re technically not in first place right now.
That’s all I’m saying.
If the Yankee knew back then what they know now, Bobby Abreu would still be on this team.
Bill Madden column from last fall-
Yankees must bring in Matt Holliday, ship off Phil Hughes and Robinson Cano
http://www.nydailynews.com/spo.....tml?page=1
Both the Rays and Indians had to go to their bullpens early again b/c of the long rain delay….Good news for the Yanks going into Cleveland tommorow, both of their bullpens have been killed the last 4 days

The best BBQ and potato salad in Austin are in places where you wear a disguise so nobody knows that you’d be seen in places like that. Austinites have certain standards to uphold, except where food, beer and music are comcerned.
Ha Antones, Bill Madden has to learn the saying, “Patience is a virtue.”
“Bill Madden column from last fall-

SHOOT HIM !
Madden also needs to learn the saying, “Stupid is as stupid does”.

Jeez, cool your jets? If you look at 99% of all papers, NYY wasn’t listed first, today either. They were listed second, alphabetically.
“Prank calls to Francessa is childish. You and Pa need to stop making them.”
But it was too easy ! I mean you pick up a phone 1-718-937-6666, then you say something dumb he stays w/ you and then pronounce the season over before he waves you off.
Ahh, the hierarchy of the uber-rich.
Very funny.
We stayed last summer at the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade.
Pete – there’s a Springsteen exhibit at the R&R Hall of Fame. If you have some time, get over to see it. Wish it was there last summer. They had Jim Morrison last year. Well, not Jim Morrison, he’s dead. But his stuff.
GB–
You are right I just know them as a tourist during SXSW week lol.
Laura-
If the Yankees knew now Abreu still would not be on this team for arbitration number salary. If they could gotten him for what the Angels did sure but there was not way that was happening/

Call him up and ask him if he has Prince Albert in a can. That’s the mentality he courts.
So where are you going to stay now that the Ritz is full, Peter? ; )
Potch -
I get the Star Ledger. When the Yankees are “merely” tied for first they usually are second from the top because alphabetically, they’re behind everyone else.
So, for instance this morning the standings were, Boston, Yankees.
“Jeez, cool your jets guys.”
Yeah, relax, I don’t think anybody is seriously depressed here.
I wasn’t expecting Varitek to actually contribute offensively this season. He’s hitting too many homeruns…

I know this to be a fact, because I ran out of disguises after two weeks.
The last time the Yanks had sole control of 1st was from 08/03/06 through 10/01/06.
I’ll get out the noisemakers when we’re in sole control of 1st.
I think Maddon wrote that article after 3 or 4 hrs at The Iron Horse.
Pel, it can happen tomorrow. Yanks win, Sox lose.

You are really showing your age with that one.
This Lisa from Whitestone is scary
just when i get to the new post, there’s another new post
A Saudi notable was in NY Presbyterian/Cornell Hospital not too long ago and you should have seen all the guards and assorted security people. 90? Sounds about right. They had a rotating shifts of 10-20 men coming and going all day all night. When their cars arrived it was like a series of the clown cars you see at the circus, 8 guys pouring out of a Lincoln.
hey, gang… nbcnewyork.com is having another golden local contest.
it’s between citi field and yankee stadium for new best stadium.
and yankee stadium is currently losing big!
come on, everyone…vote for our digs!

They can stay with me… I’ll make some room.
The funny thing is that she has been in the clinic since before April. . . 90 rooms times 60 nights is probably why gas prices are 2.65 in Cleveland.
I am a numerologist and i can promise you , Brain Cashman will be fired this year.
Wait. What? Someone is coming to THIS COUNTRY, the US of A, to have medical procedures done? Nahhhhh.. You must be joking. I mean, the rest of the world has the BEST health care system in the world. Isnt that why Obama wants us to be like the rest of the world and nationalize our health care? Please. Dont tell me some trillionaire PRINCE is in our nation getting health care when he can get it in Europe or Canada where it is APPARENTLY better.
