Reminder: Live video chat tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Alas, the Yankees have fallen out of first place. But fear not, there are still 115 games left. Once they move Joba to the bullpen, put Jeter in center and trade Wang, everything will be fine.
(Can I ask why it’s necessary to try and solve every problem every day? Let the season play out a little, let it breathe, let them get their roster together. It’s baseball, not SEC football. Calm down.)
Meanwhile, that will probably be it for the blogging today. Things to do, places to go.
So be here tomorrow at 11 a.m. with your questions. Go to <a href=”I’m in Cleveland with the Yankees. But thanks to internet magic, you can go to our Pro Talk Live page and get your questions answered.

Facing Cliff Lee is going to be tough. Andy has to keep the game close.
Their bullpen has actually done well lately too… Betencourt, Vizcaino, Herges, Wood etc. It is not as bad as it was a few weeks ago
It will be a tough series. CLE is not as bad as their record says they are. They still have plenty of talent
pete,
i hate to seem selfish, but 8 am is a little rough for us west coasters. Any chance you make the next one at 1 pm your time?
Sure 11 AM – Easy for you to say. Some of us have to deal with the fascist IT police at work.
As for tonight – it will be some combination of the basketball game (who’s playing, Cleveland and Orlando?) and the MLBN game.
It will be interesting to see CC pitch Saturday in Cleveland.
“It will be interesting to see CC pitch Saturday in Cleveland.”
Yes, it will. My guess is that he’ll get booed.
If Hughes and Wang both pitch well Joba should go to the pen. Bruney cannot stay healthy and we have seen what Coke does in a big spot. This pen needs some muscle and Joba would take us from bad bullpen to a formidable one.
Hope CC’s return to Cleveland is better than AJ’s was to Toronto
dude, all from BK
GIVE IT UP.
Shouldn’t you be at the game Pete??
Pete: I do NOT know how you can read the same people saying the same stupid things over and over. It must get REAL frustrating.
Laura: CC should be cheered since he was traded to Milwaukee before coming to NY. I don’t believe Cleveland even offered him a contract this offseason. I know they did last Spring that has nothing to do with the Yankees.
And hey – Jeter is leading the short stop popularity contest!!
Bob Costas doing the game on MLB, Dodgers and Cubs? Not bad.
Brett Marshall thru 2 innings: 2 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts
Eric Duncan gives Scranton a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the 2nd inning.
Tampa yanks take a 1-0 lead in the first on 4 walks. The shocker was having Montero sac bunt with one out in the 1st inning.
Austin Jackson is 0-2 with 2 groundouts. 2-0 Scranton

I have always been a supporter of Joba in the rotation but seeing how terrible the pen is without him has changed my mind.

“Laura: CC should be cheered since he was traded to Milwaukee before coming to NY.”
True, but with fans, you never know.
“I have always been a supporter of Joba in the rotation but seeing how terrible the pen is without him has changed my mind.”
At least you’re strong in your convictions.
Al from Bk – But, I think that is faulty logic. If the ‘pen is the problem, definitely, fix the problem. But your solution may not be the best from an organizational point of view (develop your own starting pitching? Look at what top starters are costing.) or what is best for that particular player.
Further, putting Joba in the pen makes the premise that they have no other options. I think it is premature to make that determination. So far, we’ve ruled out Edwar, Albie, and Jose Veras (I hope). My hypothesis is that they’ve not given a legit shot to either Dave Robertson or Mark Melancon, nor has the trade market developed.
If they were losing games left and right because of bullpen blow-ups, then you could make a case for stopping that nonsense here and now. But I don’t think that’s the case. And given what we’ve seen the past couple of years, where we’ve had Darrell Rasner, Tim Redding, Sir Sidney, Dan Geise, Tyler Clippard, Matt DeSalvo, Jeff Karstens,….starting games for us, I think putting Joba’s talents to use as a starter has a lot to be said for it.

Oh, and I forgot Kei Igawa starting for us.
Brett Marshall thru 3 innings: 3 innings, 2 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 5 strikeouts. Charleston no score with Greenville (Boston low A team.)
Eric Duncan gives Scranton a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the 2nd inning. Austin Jackson is 0-2 with 2 groundouts. 2-0 Scranton
Tampa Yanks take a 1-0 lead in the first on 4 walks. The shocker was having Montero sac bunt with one out in the 1st inning. Montero’ is now 1-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Tampa now leads 3-1 in the third inning.
DJ Mitchell: 2 innings, 1 hit 1 run (unearned), 1 walk, 3 strikeouts.
The problem is Joba as a starter is mediocre and not very efficient, as a reliever he is arguably the best in baseball.
I want Joba as a starter, but for all of the “B-Jobbers” out there, he’s gonna be in the bullpen eventually as he nears his innings limit. That is, unless they start skipping his starts now and then.
Good thing he’s not on a pitch count limit…
seems like hip injuries are kinda common this year.
AROD, Delgado, and Myers. Any more?
Magnus- I think you’re right down the stretch Joba will be in the pen and I expect the Yanks to get on a serious roll heading into October.
as a reliever he is arguably the best in baseball.
====================================
Do we even know how exactly he would be as a reliever right now? This is not the Joba of 2007 anymore.
Al – I disagree that he is mediocre. I think it is too early in his career to make that determination. If your premise were true, then you have a logical case. I just think it’s too early to say that with certainty.
If Wang is doing well and returns to the rotation, Phil goes down. I’m Phil’s biggest fan, but that’s just how it is – he’ll get his shot next year. This stint has been very good for Phil in that he’s taken his lumps and still shown quite a bit – I’m very pleased with him. Let him go back to AAA, work on his FB command (still not that consistent with it) and secondary stuff and be ready to help when needed.
what time & network is the basketball game on? (Can you tell I’m not a fan?

J/K Doreen, TNT @ 8:30
Joba is the 5th starter this year. The plan for him is to throw 180 innings this year. He’s 23. Look up the age 23 seasons for some of the all-time greats-Bob Gibson, Sandy Kofax, and Ron Guidry. 23 year olds struggle as starting pitchers, it’s not an uncommon thing.
This season is about developing Joba as a starting pitcher; put him in the ‘pen now and there will be more Wrights, Pavanos, and Igawas pitching for the Yankees in the near future. You’d be robbing Peter to pay Paul.

That would be really sleazy if they do. He was traded! He took out a full page ad thanking them. I’ll be really ticked if they boo him.
Don’t forget Utley had hip surgery in the offseason. Lowell too.
I wonder if all these torn hip labrums have anything to do with steroid use…A-Rod, Delgado, Lowell, and now Myers. It’s strange that this injury is becoming so common all of a sudden.
“AROD, Delgado, and Myers. Any more?
Alex Gordon.
”
Chase Utley had the surgery in the off-season.
Do they put mind altering drugs in the Whoppers, Al? Maybe you should lay off those for a few days and rethink the Joba thing.
This is very strange. You never heard of this injury than all of a sudden you have a number of players having it.
Thanks all. Especially you, Stultus — ha! ha! ha!
Our bench is AWFUL!
Arod would make it awesome.
S.A. —
CC should get a kick-back or something.
I’d never watch otherwise.
vin don’t forget Lowell.
I wonder why, last year when the rotaion was in disarray, nobody called to put Mo in it.
Okay how many of us are watching the basketball game in hopes of catching a glimpse of our guys?
I would wonder what the conditioning routines are of these guys who have hip injuries. Do they do anything different or out of the ordinary? New or innovative?
I just think with Mariano’s end nearing possibly next season, it would be wise to have an heir apparent in Joba. Sure Melancon is nice but is he a closer quality reliever? Not many are.
Atrocius

You are right. CC should get a kick back. I’ll tweet him and tell him. Although he never tweets anymore. So I’ll tell Swish to tell him.
Jen, I’ve no real interest in the game, but I admit I’m dying to know which of the gang is there tonight…..
It’s much easier to find a closer, Al, then it is a top of the rotation starter.

This is very strange. You never heard of this injury than all of a sudden you have a number of players having it.
————————————————————
Players are bigger in the lower half than ever before and these guys explode out of the box at the plate or on the mound. You’ll be seeing a lot more. Pitchers used to have careers ended because of rotator cuff tears. Quite a few. Mel stottlemyre had his career end because of it. Now, it’s not as common as before, but, it’s not always a career killer. Five years from now, it’ll be something else. 6-7 years ago, it was ACLs, bone chips and achilles heel tears.
The Spelling Bee is on ABC. Should be must see TV for some here.
I say 8 yanks – who wants to guess?
Pete named CC Swish and ??
betsy- I read a few names, I’ll try and find it.
“It’s much easier to find a closer, Al, then it is a top of the rotation starter.”
We have a top of the rotation starter his name is Carsten Charles Sabathia. This team needs a bullpen, all WS teams need a dominant pen and that isn’t Francesser BS its the truth.
I think some of these injuries are picked up now because of advanced diagnostics.
Think how many careers were shortened with an arthritis diagnosis that might have been able to have been extended now.
Ccsab As we speak, CC Sabathia is leading a bunch of Yankees teammates – including Joba Chamberlain and Brett Tomko – into the arena for Game 5 of the Cavaliers-Magic series here in rainy, cool Cleveland.
Yeah, he’s tight with LeBron, but CC got the seats on his own. And he knows he’s going to get shown on the JumboTron and get booed, but that’s life post-Cleveland. But it’s amazing how many Ohio connections the Yanks have, from Nick Swisher to media relations man Jason Zillo.
And then there’s Brett Tomko, born in Euclid, whose father actually named the Cavaliers – winning a newspaper contest.

I just think with Mariano’s end nearing possibly next season, it would be wise to have an heir apparent in Joba.
==============================
Atrocious!
Calling Joba a mediocre starter is something that either a troll or a moron would say.
5-2, 3.25 ERA, 9.8 SO/9, less than a hit per inning. Joba has one criticism out there as a starter – he walks too many guys (which impacts his longevity).
The question is, why does he walk 4 guys per 9 IP as a starter and 3 per 9 IP as a reliever? Not really sure of the answer, other than it always seems like when he’s walking guys its because of either a mechanical issue, or he’s not attacking the hitters. Not sure how that would be any different than if he were coming out of the BP.
SJ has summed it up perfectly – teams adjusted to him last year and started laying off his slider because it all too often was out of the strikezone. Hmmm, a pitcher who “struggles” when he can’t throw his out-pitch for strikes? That happens to EVERY pitcher. Once Joba learns to keep his mechanics in check throughout a game he will be on the short-list of best pitchers in baseball. Every pitcher needs to learn how to do that – it improves fastballs and breaking balls – AJ, CC, Wang, and Pettitte have all struggled with their mechanics at different points this year. And they’re all veterans!
If you can’t understand that, then you really should focus on the upcoming football season.
Thanks, Jen!
I still can’t get over the fact that Tomko’s father named the Cavaliers – that’s just very cool.

Interesting 17 game stretch coming up:
4 at Cle
3 home vs. Tex
4 home vs. TB
3 at Bos
3 home vs. Mets
I’m thinking 11-6 would be nice.
Let’s not forget that the only reason Mo will be gong to Cooperstown was because he couldn’t cut it as an average starter. Imagine if he could stay healthy enough and start – pitching to a tune of a 4.5 ERA, man things would be different!
The ‘05 white sox? had a dominate ‘pen?
‘03 Marlins? ‘04 Red Sox? 2001 D-backs?
‘06 Cards?
Championships are won with great starting pitching.
Are the Rays going to put David Price in there ‘pen? He’d be great there, I’m sure.
From Pete’s Gate Post
“Not much to report since last night. The Yankees have today off and most of the players scattered to their homes. But several of the fellas will be in Cleveland tonight to see the Cavaliers play the Magic. CC Sabathia, Nick Swisher, Phil Hughes and probably a few others will be in the house to witness LeBron.”
“I saw the Magic in Spring Training, and the Warriors are my team,” Sabathia said. “I went to a lot of Cavs games while I was there. I just like the NBA. Whatever city I’m in, if they’ve got a basketball team, I’m going to show up a lot.”
==============================
So I guess we will be seeing him at the Garden a lot later this year? Please help woo your friend LeBron there CC.
Or maybe he’ll go take in a few Nets games?
Why are they talking to the basketball players? Don’t they know we are watching to see them talk to CC, Swish et al?
Tampa Yanks lead 7-2 in the bottom of the 4th. Montero is 2-2 with an RBI single and a 2 run homer. Romine is 1-3 and Brandon Laird is 1-2.

Brett Marshall’s line for Charleston: 6.0 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 0 earned runs, 1 walks, 9 strikeouts, 0 HRA, 4.31 ERA
Melky Mesa hits a league leading 12th homer, Corbin Joseph has a single, run scored, stolen base, and Jose Pirela has an RBI double.
Is it a requirement to be a basketball player to have several tats?
Is this arena right near the baseball stadium?
Jen, these guys really LIKE each other and enjoy spending time together off the field. When they’re on the road, I’m sure they go out to eat all the time – even those normal, everyday occurrences are important in solidifiying their relationships…and I eat this stuff up, I admit it

Scranton pulls close at 5-4 on an RBI single by Austin Jackson. one out baes loaded and Shelley Duncan batting. Strikeout. Miranda batting….and grounds out.
Edwar Ramirez replaced Gasey Possum in the last inning and turned in his typical stellar performance. 2/3rds of an inning, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. and all of that in only 18 pitches.
Eric Duncan is 2-3 with an RBI double and a run scored.

Instead of listening to him bully callers/Sweeny and distort facts, would love to hear you & him battle it out.

Hey gang,
Any ideas about how to view this site at work? Admin has blocked it through a program called barracuda, which labels the site as Social Networking. I used to be able to access it by proxy but then it blocked that also because the website had proxy in the title, I think. How many games have the Yankees lost this season when leading after 7 innings?
I don’t know the number, but it’s not that many. Even if Joba was in the bullpen and had a 100% success rate, he still wouldn’t be able to pitch in every game that the Yankees have a small lead in.
I think that this team is good enough to get to the playoffs while losing the handful of games that they will lose without Joba in the bullpen. Even if they couldn’t make the playoffs w/o Joba in the pen, I still think his development is more important.
When the playoffs come around, and Joba is near his innings limit, that’s when I would think about putting him in the bullpen (Between CC, AJ, Petitte, Wang, and Hughes you’ve got your 4 starters and your long man). At that point, the Yankees would only need 4 starters and bullpen guys have more pressure on them than they do in the regular season.

The only winning Citi Field will ever be apart of is all these retarded comparison polls.
Seriously, who gives a ****?
Are you a “Joba to the bullpen” fan? If so, you may have the following symptoms:
1) 98-99 MPH FASTBALL FASCINATION: JTTBF fans miss the explosiveness of his hard stuff. As long as Joba is throwing 93-95 (as in, not like his last start…), he has proven he can be just as successful. But JTTB fans want to be entertained, and they miss their “ooh and ahhh” moments. Example: “So what if he strikes out 12 Red Sox in one game? I want that mitt to pop!”
2) IMPATIENCE: Products of the internet/immediate satisfaction era, JTTB fans want results NOW. Young pitchers are not allowed to struggle and/or learn in NY. Example: “If you can’t be dominant right away, get off my mound, go to a small market team, develop there and we’ll re-sign you when you’re a free agent for a ton of cash during or perhaps even after your peak years. As a result, I will wonder why our payroll is so high.”
3) SHORT MEMORIES: This is related to #2. JTTB fans don’t want to think about last year, last month, or even last week. Two weeks ago, fans were calling for a Hughes demotion (and lamenting he wasn’t traded alway already). Now, after a couple of solid outings, suddenly he is good enough to be cemented in the rotation? What happens when he has a bad outing again? Example: “Trade the bum for an innings eater (translation: ERA 5+) and an aging outfielder with some pop in his bat!”
And who says Wang is even right yet?
JTTB fans also don’t like to think about last year, when we ran out of starters because of injuries and ineffectiveness. I’m guessing no one had money on the idea that Wang would break his foot by simply RUNNING? If we have 6 good starters ready to go all year, it will be miraculous. You can never have enough starting pitching.
4) DYNASTY BULLPEN ENVY: JTTB fans miss the Rivera-Wetteland run. Understandable. But Rivera was a failed starter with only 2 pitches that found his calling in relief. JTTB fans like the idea of “shortening the game”, but often forget that someone has to pitch the first 6 innings and hand over a lead. They also forget that during the Nelson-Stanton-Rivera run, Nelson and Stanton were great, but nowhere near Joba’s league. Example: “We already have CC Sabathia as our ace. I’d much rather have a CC and a Mike Stanton than two Sabathias… wait, what did I just say?”
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you may be suffering from an extreme case of JTTB Fandom. Please stay indoors and cut off your internet connection to prevent the spreading pandemic.

Can I ask you guys a question?
How do you think Posada will do when he comes back? His bat is strong but, his behind the plate skills are not what they used to be. I know we need his bat but, I don’t see him being “lights out” behind the plate.

“Calling Joba a mediocre starter is something that either a troll or a moron would say.”
I wholeheartedly agree that Joba is anything but a mediocre starter. He is an exceedingly rare individual, who at his young age has already shown himself capable of pitching at a high level. Obviously he isn’t a perfect pitcher, but in my mind it is reasonable to expect the floor for his performance to be along the lines of A.J. and if all goes well, the sky is the limit for this kid. I mean at 23 he has similar concerns to A.J. at 32–inefficiency, walks and durability. However, Joba regularly shows a willingness to overcome these concerns. Despite his age he has already reigned in his velocity, pitches to contact, and focuses on using all of his pitches. Its exciting to think about how far ahead of the curve Joba already is. Not only does he possess extraordinary talent, but also a willingness to channel that talent into becoming one of the best starters in the league.
Great post BJK.
i am talking out of my @ss here, since i am not a doctor, but i thought Will Carroll said that the reason is that new MRI technology is diagnosing these hip injuries properly. in the past they were being treated as something else.
well is yankees.com
CC!
CC IS HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!
CC on TNT.
Patrick has been working with the Magic since 2007..I think
There’s Mo, CC, Alex, Jay-Z, Big Ben, Brady Quinn?
Wow, Craig Sager isn’t wearing anything too crazy. I’m shocked
I can’t believe I almost missed CC!
I switched for a couple of seconds during the commercial to the spelling bee.
But I saw the tail end.
I wonder where the other guys are. I guess their seats aren’t as close to the floor.
BJK…. best post of all time hands down
thanks bjk
Who were the guys behind CC when he was being interviewed?
All those people, and a canned “DE-FENSE” chant?????
Alex is clearly cheap – he can’t afford to get his own uniform cleaned, so he’s trying to steal Jeter’s, lol. I love that pic – Jeter looks very unhappy and it’s obvious that he despises Alex.
Thanks S.A. & JoeT- spent a lot of time not doing my real work to draft that up.
Laura- They could just not be mentioning them since they don’t know who they are.
The Knicks don’t seem to want anything to do with Ewing….unfortunately. Ah, I missed CC……I wonder why the guys aren’t sitting together.
The Knicks don’t seem to want anything to do with Ewing….unfortunately. Ah, I missed CC……I wonder why the guys aren’t sitting together.
“They could just not be mentioning them since they don’t know who they are.”
Very true.
Who does everyone want to win this game??
I want Orlando
I saw some of the Yanks at the game also, very cool.
“The Knicks don’t seem to want anything to do with Ewing….unfortunately. Ah, I missed CC……I wonder why the guys aren’t sitting together.”
They probably got the tickets at the last minute and couldn’t get them all together. I guess Mo drew the short straw and had to sit with Alex.
J/K of course!
“Who does everyone want to win this game??”
I don’t follow basketball so I don’t much care. But since CC wants CLE, I’ll go for CLE.
Haha, it’s cool to see the guys just hanging out for once.
It’s a good game so far, lets go cavs
I think CC was sitting in the front, they did a interview with him. I saw shots of Mo and Arod, not sure if they were sitting together or if he was with Jay Z? Show me the Yanks tnt! lol
I’ve heard of Lebron James, so I’ll go for the Cavs to win.
This is the creepiest “de-fense” I’ve ever heard!!
“If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you may be suffering from an extreme case of JTTB Fandom. Please stay indoors and cut off your internet connection to prevent the spreading pandemic.”
Too late. JTTB Fandon is spreading faster than the Swine Flu.
Laura, I’m thinking it’s more like CC really didn’t have much of an “in” with Lebron and had to find whatever tickets he could on E-Bay so as not to let his teammates down……they’re probably all thinking what a bum he is for not getting them seats ON the floor, lol
SOO CLUTCH!!!!
The Cavs are letting this one get away. They were up 22pts at one point.
Just saw Joba.
COVER YOUR EARS IT’S THAT EVIL SONG!!!!
I Hope Andy is resting.
Looks like it may be a “boys night out” tonight.
What is it with Sweet Caroline????
They’re playing it at this arena. I do not get it. It was a dumb song 30 years ago and it’s still a dumb song!
Only in basketball can you interview a player during the middle of the game. Can you imagine if Kim Jones tried to interview Jeter during the 7th inning stretch?
Lame crowd. Can’t even chant defense!
Welcome back to the game Orlando!
)
(I want Orlando to win, I wanna hear the screams of horror from David Stern
Trevor -
WHERE????
My eyes are pealed, absolutely pealed to the set, searching for signs of Yankees life. I can’t tell who I’m looking at!
Joba is there too? Where was he sitting?
Jason Zillo scored the tickets.
“They’re playing it at this arena. I do not get it. It was a dumb song 30 years ago and it’s still a dumb song!”
Worse, it’s kinda creepy. A grown man writing a song about someone else’s daughter? I like Neil Diamond somewhat, but that song was not his finest moment.
It looked like Robbie was behind Joba.
jennifer -
I know – isn’t that so weird — canned “Dee-Fense.” And it’s such a strange sounding voice, too.
i love how people are watching the game just to spot yanks and not for the game itself lmao
I don’t know where Joba is sitting but when half time came while the camera’s where scanning everyone getting up he was there in the front.
Laura -
Sometimes it’s better not to know what the song was about or its inspiration.
Wow the entire Yankee team is at the game lol

from the distant camera behind the Cavs bench it looked like AROD was sitting by MO and Tomko was sitting by CC
Pete,
Funny how since you mention Twitter John Heyman’s followers have grown.
But you also have 1026 how bout som pics from the game
Solares out
Check us out at twitter YANKEESVOICE.
LOVE YOUR STUFF PETE
My husband’s watching for the game.
Who is playing in the basketball game? How many quarters?
To me basketball is boring. 5 minutes can take an hour. It is stupid. I also find it stupid all the fouls that happen at the end of a game. I say if you purposely foul someone you get tossed. it is so stupid.
“i love how people are watching the game just to spot yanks and not for the game itself lmao”
Guilty as charged!
I couldn’t even spot CC – and he’s big. What is wrong with me???
I like Neil Diamond a lot, but he had a crush on a little girl when he was something like an adult……it’s creepy. Too bad, because I liked the song……
Doreen- He was interviewed.
“To me basketball is boring. ”
If it’s not played well, it can be boring. I used to follow the Bulls when Jordan was here. When he left, so did my interest in the game.
I’m going to keep watching, maybe I will see more Yankees.
I would love it if AJ came up from behind and pied someone……..Mo maybe? LOL…maybe he’s hiding in the Cavs locker room. After all, it takes the whole game to bake a pie…..
Haha Betsy, imagine AJ pies LeBrom James if they win tonight.
OMG I think my windows just broke.
Doreen, athletes look different in street clothes – it’s not always easy to recognize them. Actually, they look kind of funny – most of them are so big that their clothes never seem to fit right.
jennifer -
I saw the interview – but I haven’t spotted him in the seats.
Doreen, CC is sitting on the Magic side behind the table about two rows in. He’s a very large black man, who has a gap in the middle of his teeth. He’s about 7 ft tall and weights over 300lbs. He’s wearing a black shirt with blue lettering going down the middle. You can’t miss him.
Scranton loses 5-4. Ramirez takes the loss. Jackson was 1-5 with an RBI.
Charleston game was suspended with Charleston leading 2-0.
Marshall was spectacular. Game restarts at 5 PM tomorrow.
Tampa Yanks wins 8-3, DJ mitchell made his third srart in High A Ball and was very good. Laird was 2-4 with an RBI, Romine was 1-5 with a stolen base. Montero was 3-4 with 3 runs scored, 2 homers, 5 RBI and a sac bunt.
Mitchell’s line: (W, 1-1) 6.0 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned runs, 2 walks, 8 strikeouts, 0 HRA, 5.28 ERA. and 2 more wild pitches.
AJ must have flown down to MD to be with his family, but if he rents a private jet, I’ll bet he could be in Cleveland by the time the game ends……
Pete,
If you find any pics of the Yanks at the Cavs game, please post.
YankeesLuv
Daylife has some, I posted them earlier.
Betsy -
But I have really good face recognition skills. I really do…
I just think the camera’s not focusing enough on the important part of this game.
I like college basketball MUCH better then the NBA!! I can watch a game I’m interested in though (like this one
)
Wasn’t Charles Barkely in jail or something?
Tomko is there as well, but God knows what he looks like in street clothes. I can’t even recognize him when he’s in his Yankees uniform.
Oh thanks
Betsy- I think he flew home. If you would have seen the shirt he wore for his interview it is against Yankees suit and tie policy.
“Wasn’t Charles Barkely in jail or something?”
I think he was arrested for DUI. He also owes a casino something like 500 large. Never liked Barkley. He’s a pompous jerk.
Thanks, Laura. that will help.
(Especially the part about the gap between his teeth –
)
“If you would have seen the shirt he wore for his interview it is against Yankees suit and tie policy.”
It kinda looked like something a biker would wear, right? Or a musician. It was very “out there”.
I highly doubt CC could have scored 12 seats in the front row together on such short notice… that’s probably why they are spread out.
Jen, I saw that yesterday – it was a WOW moment for me. What was AJ thinking? LOL He looked like he was going out for a little Texas line-dancing with the white shirt and studs. I much prefer his usual outfit consisting of a casual t-shirt. Why do I think someone got that for him as a gift and he promised that person he’d wear it on-air one day?
Yeah like a rock star. I think it was a Hurley shirt.
A-Rod and MO are sitting next to Jay-Z
Joba is sitting behind someone who looks like Jose Veras or Cano
CC was sitting next to some random dude.
“Thanks, Laura. that will help. (Especially the part about the gap between his teeth)”
No problem. Do you need help finding Alex? He is on the other side of where CC is sitting, two rows in. He’s wearing a white shirt and a black 1986 Member’s Only jacket. Oh yeah, he’s sitting next to some skinny guy who supposedly is a pretty good pitcher. Marion Rivers, I think?
What’s a Hurley shirt?
“CC was sitting next to some random dude.”
Shouldn’t that be “lucky random dude”?
A-Rod was the last person I expected at this game
The shirt said “rebel” on it – I guess AJ wanted to remind us what he is, in case his tattoos don’t do the job
I think in the NBA there is a direct correlation between the amount of tattoo’s and how good you are.
Notice that Varejao has none – that freaking FLOPPER I hate him!! lol
33333 BALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!
I think the guys left. I don’t see them in the seats they had before. Curfew for the game tomorrow?
The guys were very lucky… who would have thought that there would be game 5 of a playoff series in Cleveland, when we have a day off, in Cleveland.
Worked out perfectly
http://www.edhardyshop.com/Mens-Tops-s/314.htm
Holy crap Orlando Magic. This is some game
Most of these players are not there to watch the actual game… they are there for publicity and to mingle with their fellow elite. LBJ is very good friends with Jay-Z, Jeter, A-Rod, and CC too so they probably had some good pre-game laughs.
CC is a die hard fan though, so he probably will stay the entire game. I’d be shocked if the other guys do though. I doubt they care about the result of the game lol
Do they have a curfew?
There is probably a suite involved too.
The celebrities at Madison Square Garden almost never stay for the entirety of the game. Even when the Knicks are winning.
Half of them don’t even care about the Knicks. Being seen courtside at Knicks games is considered trendy.
Didn’t CC rent a suite for the guys? Or is that only for the low budget players like Tomko, Hughes, Swisher etc.?
But Joba was sitting in the front row too.
Hmm…
Let’s go Cleveland Cavs of New York!
I just saw Mo, but Alex isn’t sitting by him anymore. Can’t find CC in his old seat.
They can’t stay the entire game – they still need to find a hotel for the night!!
and vtred, what is this you say “Knicks Winning??” I don’t understand
I’m sure even the low budget players can afford a suite.. :p
Oh Courtney Lee …. The pride of Western Kentucky!!
another pic
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/ph.....mp;prov=ap
There’s Mariano
Still see Mo
Mo is there… no sign of Alex or Jay-Z
Okay!
That was a clear shot of ARod & Mo. Hurray. I’ve now had a good night.
Arod is still in his seat. Juts saw him. Have no idea where Hughes or Swisher are.
lol Cleveland fans are probably pissed that a bunch of NYC bigshots are at the game like Jay-Z, Rivera, A-Rod, Sabathia etc.
They probably hate Jay-Z the most because he’s the ringleader of the LeBron to NY brigade.
Oh nvm, that was Alex
Where are the guys that are court side sitting?? Behind a bench, near side??
Did A-Rod get booed when he was introduced?
I’d imagine Jay-Z was showered with boos because of the Lebron/NY connection.
Am I the only one who doesn’t even care about the game, but busy scanning the stands for the Yankees players? lol
I can’t see Alex anymore. Mo is standing up blocking my view. LOL!
That’s it, guys, time for bed, to get ready for adnother big day tomorrow of lots more of JTTB nonsense. It takes a lot of strength to deal with it.
Jay Z is still there. He’s got a seat in the front.
It’s amazing to me that in the same game that he hit 2 home runs, Montero also laid down a sac bunt. Love it, develop the fundamentals regardless of your 30+ HR power.
I finally figured out where CC is and spotted him.
This is like a fast-action Where’s Waldo?
How come I don’t see any of them? UGH
Goodnight Joe! I’m turning in to. I saw some of the guys so I’m happy.
base line perhaps?? lol
I’m watching the game and cant see any of them anymore, how the heck do you guys still see’em?
I am trying to look past the play on the court and look into the crowd.
Thats Bullpen coach Mike Harkey behind cc in that photo (black hat)and the red shirt is Jason Zillo
I’m not sure where to look lol …. someone give me a hand here
behind magic/cavs bench, middle, near side, base line – how many rows up??
Wait, the blond from Texas is in Cleveland now???
Never knew Sweet Caroline was a Humbert Humbert thing. Scary. I feel gypped.
jennifer,
Me, too. And the whole first half I was looking at the wrong side, I think.
Where is Jeter?
He is good friends with LBJ and Jay-Z
I wonder if GI Joe went as well.
Which side are they on? the side with the mobile sign? or the other side?
SUCH A FLOPPER!!!!!!!!!!
“Who does everyone want to win this game??”
Orlando Magic for sure.
woahhhhhhhh with the stripping!!
I don’t think these guys are staying in the same seats. They’re still there, but are moving around.
Maybe they shift around for safety reasons or something
Was that Jason Zillo in that red T-shirt? He’s at this game too apparently.
Cool, I just saw Damaso Marte in the 3rd row.
I don’t get why they must play “Sweet Caroline” at games. What does that song have to do with sports? & who is Caroline?
Someone answer that for me
I thought I saw Mike Harkey and Jason Zillo, and they had better seats than Mo and Alex. What’s up with that?
Just saw CC sitting next to Zillo.
4 for DH is not good for the Magic!!
Damaso is alive??
“Just saw CC sitting next to Zillo.”
That guy had a hat, and CC wasn’t wearing a hat. Plus CC was sitting lower than them.

Marte? Isn’t he in Florida rehabbing?
Why would Jeter go to a basketball game in Cleveland of all places on his day off when he can go visit Minka in LA?
Berroa was going to go to the game tonight but it was ice cream sundae night at the home
who is that sitting next to JOba?
“Yankees GM Brian Cashman told me that Chien Ming Wang is in the bullpen unless Joe Girardi decides to make a change. Cashman says that Wang shouldn’t have a problem because ‘his contract says baseball player,’ not starter[...]”
Ouch.
Not sure if the “Manny and Ortiz Road Trip” Onion article was posted. Here it is:
http://www.theonion.com/conten.....=a-section
Marte flew from Tampa to Cleveland just for this game?
He must really be a big fan lol
That quote is from here:
http://stations.espn.go.com/st.....id=3480300
Sorry, not Marte, it was an apparition of a ghoul. My mistake.
I’m getting a headache.
Please, Getty/Daylife… get shots of all these players so I don’t have to play Where’s Walldo for the next hour.
ok seriously…. give me a direction to look because I haven’t seen anyone
behind one of the benches, near side, far side, base line, how many rows up???? give me something lol
If Cleveland loses tonight, can Lebron pitch the 8th inning tomorrow night?
“Uh-oh, it says Corvette Museum next right. I got to go, man,” Ramirez added. “Hey, Papi, do we have any more Slim Jims?”
The security in this arena must be loaded… so many high profile guys. Jay-Z, A-Rod, LeBron etc.
Wow A-Rod went. I guess Jeter is too good to go lol
Was that Roger Clemens and his wife sitting behind the scorer’s table?
“I don’t get why they must play “Sweet Caroline” at games. What does that song have to do with sports? & who is Caroline?”
I don’t understand it either. The Red Sox always play that song in there Park. Really that song creeps me out.
That’s great, Mr. Cashman. What a diplomat.
basketball stopped being basketball when they brought in the 3 point shot. Now, it’s nothing more than a long distance game of HORSE.
This is shaping up to be a great game too
“Was that Roger Clemens and his wife sitting behind the scorer’s table?”
They keep yelling to Lebron that they have something for him if he gets tired.
ok seriously…. give me a direction to look because I haven’t seen anyone
behind one of the benches, near side, far side, base line, how many rows up???? give me something lol
This series exposed really how bad LeBron’s supporting cast is. He has NOBODY around him.
Shows how good LBJ is that he still got this team to win 66 games.
CC is wearing a black T-shirt with some red design
A-Rod is wearing some crazy black jacket
MO is wearing this sky-blue stripped shirt.
Hope that helps.

man that’s a lot of time zone changes just for one day off for Jetes, that snob :0 j/k
yeah AROD is sitting by MO behind the Cavs bench and Joba, CC, and I think Cano are behind the Gatorade press box
Neil Diamond was Caroline Kennedy’s favorite singer at the time and her sometimes babysitter and friend of Caroline’s mother asked Diamond to write a song for her birthday. Her babysitter was Carly Simon. I can only assume that the song is a Boston-Kennedy connection.
Caroline Kennedy its a creapy song sang to a teenager.
Gettyimages has already posted some pics
Thank you Tank lol – where are they though?
Joe T -
Wish I could help. the few times I’ve spotted guys, it’s gone by so fast they may as well be sitting on the ceiling!
That’s MO in that blue shirt with some yellow credential pass around his beck… behind the Cavs bench
Yea but, what does “Sweet Caroline” have to do with Cleveland?
wow – 4 on Hedo and Howard …. not good
Come on, Cleveland, grab hold of this game!
Why couldn’t they make it easy on us and go wearing their Yankee uniforms?
When are the Knicks going to be playing these intense playoff games in late May?
Why couldn’t they make it easy on us and go wearing their Yankee uniforms?

So whatever happened with Mikefrancesa.com? Some of the members of that board got ticked off at the moderator or something and created another board.
Nick you shut your mouth!! Unless you’re going to make Berroa jokes, but no rooting for the Cavs!! lol
“UCF Knights baseball games, usually in the 7th inning. ”
My least favorite thing about my school
The Knicks will start playing some playoff games when the guy who is playing tonight, signs with the Knicks in 2010.
Lets go Cavs!
Carly Simon was Caroline Kennedy’s babysitter?
Does that explain “You’re So Vain” too?
If you notice, the NY Rangers also play the song, as do the NY Giants and Mets.
Joe
Mo is easy to spot behind the Cavs bench. He’s got a blue collared shirt. Sitting next to a guy in a white shirt and Alex is on his other side in a black jacket.
CC in a jumpman T sitting between the scorers table and the Magic bench.
ahh I’ll still never understand what that song has to do with sports but, I’m dropping it now. Come on Magic!!!!!
BIG 3!!!!
Who is that guy in a White shirt sitting next to A-Rod and MO?
I have to figure he is someone from the team, Joba is sitting next to him too.
“UCF Knights baseball games, usually in the 7th inning. ”
My least favorite thing about my school
Awesome My cousin goes to UCF & my little sister got accepted there
I can’t believe I’ve spent the last 3 hours playing “Where’s Walldo” looking for Yankees players at a basketball game lol
Robbie and Jay Z
http://tinyurl.com/kk87ef
Thanks Pat!!
For the record UCF plays “so you had a bad day” when someone fouls out at a basketball game – HILARIOUS – the entire crowd starts singing it. The first game they did it was a BIG game against Tulsa, we came back from down 17 with 9 minutes to play and as we were getting close they had like 4 guys foul out in 2 minutes and they just kept playing the song. We ended up winning the game, one of the better games I’ve been to
13 year old Kavya Shivashankar wins spelling be on ABC. These kids are smart
A-Rod IS the guy in the white shirt isin’t he?
Cano is sitting in that group too I think with that navy shirt.

Robbie at least for a time was wearing a cavs t-shirt.

Why don’t you write to these teams and ask them?
I still want to see Lakers-Cavs in the Finals, let’s go Cavs!
It looks like UCF and Tulsa among others in C-USA will have a decent shot next year, since the NCAA Committee on Infractions is knocking at our door.
Where are Tomko and Swisher?
UCF basketball has big games?
lets straighten this joba thing out once & for all.
nobody is right or wrong.just opinions.
joba can be great as a starter but probably is great as a reliever.
no matter what you do with him he will help the team but i think right now he might help us more in the pen because he does not have to develope in the pen like he does as a starter.
we can survive with him starting but we have to fix the pen some how.
give melancon another shot.
with hughes.if he can help us he should not be sent down.
if him & wang keep pitching well it makes no sense to send hughes down if he can help us as a starter or in the bullpen.
give wang a start in hughes spot.if wang does well hughes should go to the pen.

We’re all about the big comeback’s in Orlando!! lol
Cleveland has been taken over by NYC elite— Jay-Z and the Yankees
I’m confused. Arod is there?
He was supposed to be hanging with Jeter outside the Starbucks in Akron, posing for pictures. I can’t believe he stood up the Captain.

That must be Doris from Rego Park behind Jeter, asking him to hold the baby for more photo ops.
DT: Jeter has a policy not to pose with Arod at Starbucks anymore because people on the internet might… wait… hmmm, actually, I’m stumped.
I feel bad for the guy trying to see over CC lol
Sabathia, a former Cleveland product, is at the game and he came to NY
LeBron could come to NY too and Jay-Z, the man who will be the most influential in making it happen, is at the game
Big Ben, the QB of the hated Steelers (Browns division rival), is at the game.
Then you have a bunch of Yankees at the game too, led by A-Rod
Cleveland fans must be pissed lol
http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.....p;c_id=nyy
cc on tnt
There’s more Yankees at the game then Indians. Considering the Indians play in the same town you would think there would be some there.
I have faith in the whistles that this will go Cleveland’s way.
Pete is at the game too.
I wondered if Arod walked by Pete’s seat with his earbuds dangling, not plugged into anything.
Gotta keep those mind games going with the beats.
Does Craig Sager ever wear normal clothing?
That’s for that link Carl, that guy I was referring to about seing over CC was Bruney!! lol
Witness
They showed A-Rod and MO!!
LeBron James future Knickerbocker
Yankees Magazine was good tonight – they had a segment on the happy-go-lucky clubhouse (lots of good clips of AJ pieing people) and also an interview with Melky and his interpreter…….
Aww, CC’s so cute……and it’s too bad that the Indians blew that 3-1 lead to the Sox, lol
haha – see Nick – they ripped that off of UCF!!
Nice they showed some Yankees
Lebron is insane
Tex lives in Dallas, he probably stayed an extra day with his family
Burnett probably went back to MD for a day
Pettitte probably stayed in Texas at home too
Brady Quinn…. loving it
me…. not so much
“Does Craig Sager ever wear normal clothing?”
is he doing that high heels and dress thing again?
Yikes, I at least hope the Magic can cover the +8. For my poor brother’s sake.
Wow, please come to NY LeBron!!
You’d think with Melky & Godzilla they’d know how to speak a little english without an interpreter. They’ve been here long enough. It didn’t take me long to learn spanish.
Ok Magic… let’s go back to Orlando and win it in 6.
Melky and Godzilla understand english perfectly fine but they use a translator for speaking
There are many high profile people in attendance at the game, but I haven’t seen Art Modell yet.
People sitting next to Craig Sager need to wear dark glasses, most of his attire can blind you.
My favorite part is when Varejo comes out of the game…. i hate him

Just saw Arod, he’s sitting right behind the cavs bench. He took his jacket off and is wearing a light shirt.
I finally saw Arod when that curly haired dude fouled out.
Arod was watching the high fives intently, taking team interaction mental notes.
I hate when they extend games like this in the NBA
You’re down 10 points with almost a minute left, you are not coming back
Just let the clock run out. Why extend this game by 15 minutes?
LOL
Is Brady Quinn as famous as it gets in Cleveland? No Carl Pavano at the game? What’s up with that?
Brady quinn is from Cleveland thats why the people love him. He was born & raised there & now he plays for the Browns. & then, they got Grady
Time to start seeing who selling game 6 tickets lol
In Cleveland it goes like this
LeBron
Brady
Grady
Hope that Jay-Z, CC, and A-Rod put a sell job on LeBron tonight
It was kind of cool that those 3 were in Cleveland of all places together.
Nice quote, Brandon. That applies to the whole team, doesn’t it?
LeBron is so amazing he just informed the coach that they were taking a full time out and not 20 second lol
GreenBeret7,
What the hells your problem man? Did I do something to offend you? I’m not being nasty. I apologize if I did. What BS?
LeBron is more powerful than the coach, GM, and owner
GOBIGBLUE
Your statement wasn’t offensive at all, dunno what’s wrong with Beret
“No Carl Pavano at the game? What’s up with that?”
Cleveland figured out the secret to a healthy Pavano.
He spends his time between starts in the Hyperbaric Chamber.
That was like after a high school game …. LeBron runs over to all the cool kids lol
Some guy in Jay-Z’s possee was wearing a Yankees hat lol
I’ve read that Melky understands English well, but he feels uncomfortable speaking it. During interviews when someone asks him a question in English, he’ll sometimes respond right away before the translator gets a chance to say the question in Spanish.
“The stands were brimming with athletes and many of them were shown on the overhead scoreboard.
Cheers were loudest for shortstop Jhonny Peralta and pitcher Kerry Wood of the Indians, who played earlier in the day against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Also getting ovations were quarterback Brady Quinn, tackle Joe Thomas and defensive lineman Shaun Rogers of the Browns.
However, there were boos, with the loudest being for pitcher CC Sabathia, a former Indian, and third baseman Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees, and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
The Indians and Yankees begin a four-game series at Jacobs Field today.
Roethlisberger held up two fingers for the camera, an obvious reference to the two Super Bowl titles to which he has led the Steelers.”

Good article on Coke by Kepner:

Big Ben should have held up three fingers. Cleveland fans know how to read between the lines.
Beret’s a clown. Don’t worry about it.
I’m not sure why they booed CC…. He was traded from there and they didn’t offer him a contract this offseason. I understand Teix being booed in Baltimore/Boston, but CC was amazing for the Indians for a few years and was then traded, it’s not his fault they can’t afford (or refuse to pay) what he is worth.
A-Rod being booed is understandable
Didn’t think CC would get booed though. He did a lot for the city of Cleveland.
Kind of funny how guys like CC, A-Rod, Big Ben, Jay-Z who are all hated in Cleveland were at the game lol
(Jay-Z is hated because of his connection to LeBron coming to NYC)

Oh he’ll make you boo alright :p
Better to be a clown, than a few clowns short…
Indeed
I hope having Danillo Gallinari and Stephen Curry is enough to lure LeBron here.

I’m not the idiot that repeated the same post 3 times in 10 minutes about a damned song, and I’m not the idiot that repeated the same thing, word for word from this afternoon, under a different name, about not understanding why Cabrera and Matsui can’t speak English. Everyone knows they do, but prefer to do most interviews with an interpreter, so there is no misunderstanding.

Cleveland fans must be pissed lol”
ha yeah I thought about that, no Indian players were shown, then Jay Z and all Yankees….Big Ben just topped it off, I’m sure that will be a talk radio topic in Cleveland tommorow ha
Is Doris from Rego Park still at Starbucks?

Whatever. It just get tiresome digging through the same crap looking for decent questions or discussions.
GreenBeret7,
Wow apparently I’m posting crap. I’m just a rookie here. Apparently I don’t know the guidelines. You’ve been on my case, you’ve accused me of being under a different name which I don’t know why some one would do that. I apologized because you seem angry with me & you still manage to make a little comment. Unbelievable. Stick that whatever up your a**. My friend said people were friendly on this site. Seems I’m commenting to the friendliest one
Man just settle it out under the Oneill banner

From S.A.’s link—-
“Yankees GM Brian Cashman told me that Chien Ming Wang is in the bullpen unless Joe Girardi decides to make a change. Cashman says that Wang shouldn’t have a problem because “his contract says baseball player,” not starter and he “is sporting a 20-something ERA,” adding “We didn’t put him in this situation.”
Alan Chang, Wang’s agent, told me, ”[Wang’s] not comfortable with it, but he’s a team player.”
Ouch. What are they doing?

this kind of arrangement is truly professionional.. If you don’t have a have space for him at present, the thing you have to do is send him back to AAA so he will have a regular rotation as a starter, not putting him in the bullpen and waiting for what is so called ” a chance”, so what is he gonna do ? waiting there and pray someone is gonna get injured or pitch bad huh ? This is not the kind of thing that Wang would do simply because he is a modest man. Not to mention that it’s the Yankees’s management that have caused Wang to start awful this year all due to the fact that post-injury care was wrong. And how he is being treat as an extra in the roster, although Mr. Giradi keeps saying something lousy and lame. Yankees has shown no respect for Wang, what I can see now is a club with great history but with no future. If you believe in Karma, Yanks is gonna pay it back. Go anywhere as soon as you can.

“Once they move Joba to the bullpen, put Jeter in center and trade Wang, everything will be fine.”

Pete,
Is there has a baseball culture–”believe in Karma” in America?? If a baseball player politely express his thought cause his general manager uncomfortable and then he will be traded in the near future???!!!!
If so!!!!!
Dear Mr Cashman,
Pleaseeeeeeee trade CMW to Red Sox immediately without any delay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your kind will be much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOBIGBLUE,
Just don’t worry about GreenBeret. If his comments offends you, it’s best to either ignore it or start making “your mama” jokes. And he’s not singling you out, he does it to everybody. He got on my case because I said Cano swings at junk.
He’s just sensitive sometimes.
CC was assisted in getting tickets to the game by a Yankee staffer. In addition to the players, Yankee staff were also invited. CC booked two suites for his “gang”. Surprised to see Alex there and didn’t he look happy. CC is a great guy and has the most infectious smile, including the gap between his teeth. . .
