Fans would be surprised at how many baseball players aren’t really fans of the game or the history of the game. Because they were so good at playing the game when they were younger, they didn’t watch a lot of it on television.
But some players, like Phil Hughes, are avid collectors. So when the Yankees were in Texas, Phil sought the autograph of Nolan Ryan, who is now the president of the Rangers.
Phil purchased an old-school Ryan jersey from the team and had it delivered to Ryan to sign. “To Phil: Good luck with your baseball career. Nolan Ryan,” was written in blue pen when he got it back.
Hughes plans to get it framed.
