Today in The Journal News
The Yankees are back in first place after beating the Indians last night. But Andy Pettitte had to leave the game with a sore back.
CC Sabathia thinks LeBron James would be a good fit in New York. This notebook also has updates on Jorge Posada, Xavier Nady, Jose Molina and Melky Cabrera.
Francisco Cervelli has impressed the Yankees while filling in for Jorge Posada.

I agree with CC, but Cleveland needs LBJ.
“They’re all good,” Posada said. “It has been fun for me to see those guys come up. Francisco has done a great job. I’m glad he’s here and we’re going to see more of him.”
Great quote from Posada, Pete.
Glad to hear Posada’s having fun being around the younger catchers in the organization. Hope he takes them under his wing.
This is so off-topic for a Yankees blog, BUT –
Tomorrow we’re taking my mom-in-law to Citifield for her birthday. We’re starting out in Central NJ, picking her up in Bayonne and then going to out to the ballpark. We need to get there more than an hour before the game in order to get parking. So, we need a place to eat that is not the concession stands and that is not an exclusive “club.” Mostly to kill time. We’ll never make it through the game if we have to sit in the stands for almost 2 hours before game time.
Yankee Stadium has the Hard Rock. Does Citifield have something like that?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Posada understands that his days are numbered with his last contract maybe being his last. Sure, he wants to play as much as possible, but knows his role is to tutor young catchers too just like Girardi did with him.
“They’re all good,” Posada said. “It has been fun for me to see those guys come up. *Francisco has done a great job. I’m glad he’s here and we’re going to see more of him*.”
You sure Georgy ? I keep hearing you don’t want that and someone on another board said you put stick’em in Cisco’s locker. Just saying ..
good to see the Yankees still know how to overhype their young players (Ruben Rivera, Ledee, Alex Graman, Randy Keisler, Christian Parker, Ryan Bradley, Russ Davis, Drew Henson etc etc)
Doreen-
Found this site online about Citi Field restaurants.
http://nymag.com/daily/food/20.....field.html
tim boat you are ridiculous. Nobody ever hyped Keisler and Graman
Sam Militello, Wade Taylor, Steve Adkins and my personal favorite Domingo Jean…these guys were hyped. Likewise Ruben Rivera. You can do this across any organization, though.
Look at the Angels Brandon Wood and Sean Rodriguez. What happened to these guys?
“So, we need a place to eat that is not the concession stands and that is not an exclusive “club.””
Doreen I don’t know if they have a place to sit (you could probably find one) but Shake Shack for burgers lives up to the hype.

Brian Tallet of the jays is awfull today
Brian Tallet is ALWAYS awful. He stinks. And so do the Blue Jays.
Cleveland already stole the rock and rock HOF from it’s rightful location in Woodstock,NY, Knicks signing LeBron would be much deserved payback.
Yankee Trader -
Thanks.
Uncle Ellsworth -
I know they have some great concessions there. But I can’t find any information about being able to sit and eat the food away from your seats.
I think we may be eligible to make reservations for brunch at their Acela Club (We have baseline box seats) but I’m not sure – I have to call and find out if baseline box seats are considered field box. But even if we are, it’s $41 per person. Now, will the concessions end up costing that much? I doubt it.
People criticize the Yankees for having the Hard Rock, but it’s a real nice, affordable, familiar option for people who are not familiar with the neighborhood and arrive at the stadium early. Or in our case, my mother-in-law is really not up to walking around a lot. There doesn’t seem to be that convenience at Citi Field. And people travelling with a car from the suburbs of NJ, if they want to get a parking spot close to the field, and not end up taking a shuttle to the field and waiting for a shuttle after the game ( and I don’t even know if they run the shuttle during the game if you decide to leave early), they have no choice but to get there very early.
Public transportation to Citi Field is not an option for us.
Everyone hypes their prospects. We just pay more attention to Yankees hype.
Of the guys mentioned everyone in baseball loved Ruben Rivera. Rickey Ledee had a decent career, Militello was probably the most hyped of the others.
And, we already paid over $350 for tickets for 5 of us to see a game; we shouldn’t have to pay another $200 just to sit down to have lunch.
I realize most other people are satisfied with going to the concessions and eating at their seats. Some of you may be aware that we have a daughter who has autism. So, sitting for 2 hours pre-game and hoping to last through the game without changing venues (i.e,, our seats) is really not ideal. Of course, since it’s an open concourse, I could just spend a lot of the game walking around as much of the stadium we’re allowed to during the game. At least it’s the Mets and not the Yankees. I won’t care as much to miss actual game time.
But that’s my problem, not the Mets.
But I hope it opens some eyes as to why The Hard Rock Cafe being right at the stadium might be a nice thing for some people, even if it’s a bit non-baseball and very commercial.
Doreen, I don’t know if this is of any help:

Doreen – Hope you have a nice day tomorrow. At least the weather seems like it will cooperate. Good luck with the ancillary issues you identified – and the traffic. Never forget the traffic (lol).
Brian Tallet isn’t a starter. The Jays have had so many injuries that they are using guys like him and Casey Jasssen in the starting rotation to make up for guys like Chacin, Litsch, Marcum, and McGowan who are all on the DL.
Try imaging some of our relivers taking over the role of a SP. Wouldn’t always be very pretty. Janssen pitched decent yesterday though.
Joe from LI -
The traffic is why we’re leaving home at 9 a.m. for a 1 o’clock game!
I’m sure we’ll have a great day. It’s just the darn logistics.
Doreen,
I found this about the Caesar’s Club-looks reasonable
Caesar’s Club has lounge seating and tables for a safety-squeeze Nathan’s hot dog ($5.75) and a groundout, dry “Brooklyn burger” ($8.75). Nathan’s fries ($4.75) are like a sacrifice bunt: gets it done but at a price. Fisher’s dry roasted salted-in-shell peanuts (a mouthful, $4.75) and Cracker Jack ($4.75) are the clutch hitters. For the mourners, you can see what remains of Shea Stadium via the windows at Caesar’s.
It’s too bad your mother in law can’t walk distances. There are some great restaurants in downtown Flushing about a 20 minute walk from the stadium. Anyway, have fun. Supposed to be a nice day.
Doreen, I hope that you are going to be dressed head to toe in Yankees clothing. You don’t want them to think that you’re a Mutts fan.
Doreen- Have fun tomorrow at the game! I didn’t realize you have a daughter that has autism; it is not very common to see that in girls. I understand what you are saying though about the difficulties of sitting there for 2 hours. I have worked with children who are autistic and can be a challenging task at times. It is rewarding for me to work with these kids though especially when you are able to see the growth they have made over the course of a school year.
I hope you and your family enjoy the game, despite it being the Mets lol

does anyone know of any good chinese restaurants on the eastern end of long island. thanks. and by the way, mr cc, please keep the line moving.
By the way Christina, I left last night to watch the post game and missed your last question.
As far as I know the owner of the Saratoga Winners is being charged with arson. The building has not had electric power for 2 years so I guess the fire was deemed suspicious.
I’m up in Clifton Park. The Warren Zevon show was my only visit to the Winners.
My friend’s girlfriend chauffered us that evening. He has since relocated to a different part of the country. I need to swing by and take a shot of the ruins to email to him, that night with Warren Zevon will live on as long we do.

Or Bethel NY?
Doreen try to Call the Mets. If you can get a live person I’m sure they help you. There are no place near there really either but if you choose to eat in Queens beforehand Donovan’s in Woodside is a nice place
Yeah Uncle Ellsworth
Bethel/White Lake would have been the best location for the rock and roll hof imo.
Cleveland? I don’t get it.

Not a bright man to do that, considering it would look so obvious. Clifton Park is a great area too, I do some tutoring up there and the library is freaking amazing. I am also siked for the big book sale they are having next weekend (yes, I am a loser but you can get children’s books for cheap there).
You seem to have some good memories though about the place. It’s too bad they closed it down. Everything good leaves this area, sometimes I hate it here, especially since we have zero baseball in the area.
is D’andreas (saratoga) still open?
don’t correct yourself… you’ll be doing that all day.
Last winter I took a drive down to W. Saugerties with my Nikon, took some shots of Big Pink. Not much has changed from the album cover.
I had to 4 wheel in the narrow icy road.
Then drove down Zena Road to the barn Bobby Dylan hit with his motor cycle.
A bit of a mixed day for Pedroia. 2 walks a run scored. 3rd time, he takes a fastball off of the knee and then gets caught stealing after being picked off of 1st base.
D’Andreas long gone.
I think the exact location is now a Banana Republic.
That was a great spot before Skidmore was Coed.

why would a rock and roll hall of fame be in woodstock, ny. ?
… and bethel, is where the the woodstock festival took place.
the new bethel woods performing arts center seems like it’s a success and it’s on the original woodstock festival site and it does pay homage to the woodstock festival.

no only in final jeopardy and they don’t penalize for mis spelling
Hey S.A., you have a score?
“Bob Dylan broke his neck – close, but no cigar,” is how the punk rock book “The Boy Looked at Johnny” opens.
3-2 red sox bottom of the 5th

Woodstock, Bethel, White Lake.
The know all the areas very well, I referred to Woodstock NY because I assumed that maybe others did not know the true history and referred to the name of concert..
It is amazing as I travel around the country how many people do not realize that the original Woodstock festival was held at Bethel/White Lake NY., they believe it was held in Woodstock NY.

I heard that they had a substantial penalty for missing the Final Jeopary question. They take you out and put you in front of firing squad. Talk about a rough game.
Bob Dylan at Newport in ’65 was the most punk rock thing ever.
Anyone watching the Sox and Jays? Baldelli just chased down a ball in foul territory and slid right into the foul line wall. He smashed into it pretty hard. They stood on the field for about 5 minutes playing with his knee. He had to leave the game.
Thanks S.A.
Hate to say it but Baldelli hurt helps us.

I was at the original site about 15 years ago, there wasn’t much to see except for the monument, now the Bethel Woods center stands which I have not visited.
Rhapsody
I have the t-shirt that has a map of the area with an arrow that points to Woodstock saying “this is Woodstock”
and another arrow pointing to the farm saying “this is where the concert was” it pretty funny and informative.
The “Live at the Royal Albert Hall” cd is great (and yes, it was really live at the Manchester Union Hall). When the guy yells “Judas!” and Dylan says “you’re a liar” is pretty punk rock too. And The Band sounds great.
Saw that Josh. Ouch
Looked more like Baldelli skinned his knee or a bad rug burn more than anything else. He left without help and wasn’t limping.
David Ortiz is 0-3 as of the 6th inning.
ADAM LIND TIES IT IN THE 6TH WITH A BOMB!
We’ll see about Baldelli.
new post
Nice. The awful Jays tie the great and powerful Sox.
rhapsodyin blue-
i actually don’t know the areas well, but i used to deliver some of my stained glass work i used to make in another incarnation to a gallery there in woodstock. on a humorous note, the night before the first day of the festival, i sat around a kichen table in the wee hours of the night with my friends trying to talk me into going to this awesome festival.
i had a plane flight going back to school in california the next morning and my argument was that an east coast concert just couldn’t be that good . upon landing in los angeles the whole front page of the newspaper was a photo of the festival.
i was not happy.
another side note was that the guy who oversaw the whole bethel performing arts project for alan gerry the billionaire who conceived the project is a good customer of mine . i started hearing from him about the project about 5-6 years ago and should have bought real estate up there while the center was still an idea. i didn’t think it would happen though. so twice, i’ve missed the boat in bethel
Nick-
Play it f’ing Loud!
Haha. Did you guys see that? 3-3 in Toronto.
Quick question. Is Ortiz struggling a big deal because he’s been their DH for years? I mean if Matsui was our DH for a couple years, would it be as big as a deal? Not really, right? We’d just move him down in the lineup.
Don’t know, just seems like the Red Sox are really depending on him, so it makes it a big deal. Maybe because we haven’t had a steady DH for the past few years.
bottom line is Ortiz is nothing without Manny hitting behind him.
