Come meet Cashman and Girardi
According to the Yankees, Brian Cashman and Joe Girardi will be greeting fans in the Great Hall at 4 p.m. today.
I wonder if they would be doing had the Yankees lost 16 of 20? If you’re here early, stop over. They’re both good guys to talk to. I’m told this is something they plan to do once every homestand.

Meanwhile, I arrived at the ballpark early today and as I was walking down 161st Street, it was hard not to notice what a construction site the old Stadium has become. There are temporary wooden walls ringing the building and mesh nets set up to keep debris from falling.
The old field is entirely dirt as cranes work and seats are removed. It doesn’t look like it will be too much longer before the walls start to come down. If a building can look sad, that place looks sad.

Can we get a Picture??? I am going to miss it
pete where are the pics..?
Any word on the game tonight yet, Pete?
i’m coming down from rhode island…any word on the game/weather (probability)?
I’ll be waiting to see if they will get grief over their use of wang..LOL
Cashman didn’t want the greeting announcement made too early in the day…
he was afraid LoHud Randy might show up.
Part of the reason I’m glad I haven’t made the trip to the new place yet. Kind of want to wait until the old one is gone. Want the last memory to be of goung to a game there, not it be stripped for parts.
I dunno if they are going to be able to get a game in today:

Guess we will see
let’s get off to a good start & make the new stadium special with new ghosts along with the old ghosts that came over.

darn double post.
computer acting very strange.
time to do a virus scan.
would love to meet both of them.
in one word: class
Word is the Yankees saw it was going to rain, but wanted people to come in extra early to meet them. And for those people to pay for beer and food.
Wink (so Pete knows it is a joke)
What new ghosts? It’s only been two months and nobody’s died yet. There’s no mystique here, no visiting pitcher is taking the mound saying “Wow, this is where Jonathan Albaladejo once pitched”
And I believe ghosts get kinda ticked when you displace them by destroying their habitat

under any particular banner????????
“make the new stadium special with new ghosts”
Should we off someone or something? Can we start with Sterling?
“let’s get off to a good start & *make the new stadium special with new ghosts along with the old ghosts* that came over.”
I don’t think it’s the ghosts.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvs.....A-Rod.html
speaking of ghosts where is the gehrig weathervane!?
btw Jeter is better than reyes this year.
Meeting Cash and Girardi.. a ploty from Trost to get fans in with a potential rain out?
Maybe I’m just a pessimist.
Whatever, there is mystique. The mystique of the broken bat fly ball that turns into a homerun.
Opposing pitchers tremble when they take the mound. Alas, so do Yankee pitchers…
“btw Jeter is better than reyes this year.”
hitting yes, ~fielding…
Even being 10 games over .500 having Cashman and Girardi come meet the fans still seems like a risky move
What new ghosts? It’s only been two months and nobody’s died yet.

A lot of people believe that Wangs ghost is sitting in the pen right now.
He’s been better than Reyes defensively too so far this year.
He’s only made two errors and is getting to balls he hasn’t gotten to in 2-3 years.
He’s been great so far this year in every phase of the game.
Speaking of the movie that will rake in the most this year. So far the one that is ahead is
Star Trek with 209 mil
Monsters vs Aliens 194 mil
Wolverine 170 mil
Fast n Furious 154
Night at the Museum 104
Still think Transformers will win out.
SJ44,
Going back to the last post on Wang, I think we both agree that Doreen has a really good take on why fans are down on Wang. How about the front office? Do you think they have any bias against him for some reason?
I can see the arbitration decision as being strictly business, not personal. They have the opportunity to save some money and Wang’s agent dropped the ball.
I also give them a pass on the rehab problems – clearly they just made a mistake with an injury they’re not familiar with.
But I wonder about Cash’s comment (contract says baseball player) and how they may view Wang compared to Hughes. Do you think that they value Hughes more highly, and think he’ll do better longterm than Wang, thus explaining their hesitation to put Wang back in the rotation? Or, do they just not think he’s returned to pre-injury form?
hitting yes, ~fielding…
umm he really hasnt been all that bad in the field….
He’s not a better fielder than Reyes.
Reyes is the most overrated player in the game.
Brandon.. Hughes took your spot WANG !

He’s not a better fielder than Reyes.
————————————————————
As long as Jeter cares about all phases of the game, he’s better than Reyes.
he’s without a doubt an overall better player than Reyes.
I’m stuck in Chicago so I can’t go. Somebody ask Cashman what he plans to do about the bullpen.
Oh yeah – tell Cash that Ransom IS NOT a better 3B than A-Rod.
“I’m stuck in Chicago so I can’t go. Somebody ask Cashman what he plans to do about the bullpen”
hopefully, fill the needs from within
“As long as Jeter cares about all phases of the game, he’s better than Reyes.”
Agreed.
Brandon,
He’s been a better SS in every phase of the game than Reyes this year. Even defensively. Its not even a contest so far this season.
Clare,
Like any business if your boss feels that he has a certain amount of power or control over you, he/she is not shy about using it.
Seeing how poorly Wang has been represented by his agents this year, its easy to see why the Yankees feel they have the upper hand. That’s why I think he needs to change agents.
If he does, the tone and the conversation becomes completely different.
In this instance, it seems to be he is being penalized for being a quiet type of guy with low key representation.
Sometimes, you have to stand up for yourself against management. He doesn’t seem to have that in his corner, IMO.
Ok SJ I understand what the stats say, lets be honest Teixeira has saved alot of errors, Jose Reyes is a better fielder, Jeter is the better all around.
Dealing with my nephew this year, I can tell you the tone and conversation with teams because of Aces being our advisor is COMPLETELY different than other kids I know who have less experienced advisors.
I will go into more detail after the draft when its easier to speak specifics.
I can tell you though, respect and professionalism with the teams goes up a great deal when you deal with guys who have respect and power in the game. If it makes a difference at the amateur draft level, its got to make a difference at the ML level with an established star.

You forgot the mall cop movie i believe that was 150 million or so

Another reason for me to believe that wang will not resign with the yankees when his contract is up.
SJ, you buried the nail in the coffin on that post.
Brandon,
My point is, he hasn’t been a better fielder this year. I’m talking abou this year.
Tex hasn’t saved that many throws from Jeter this year.
Jeter is playing SS at 1999 levels so far this year.
I don’t know if it will keep up but, so far, he has outperformed Reyes defensively by a pretty wide margin.
In another shocking development, Brandon’s wrong again. Jeter is having a very Jetery year. Just enjoy it without being overly critical.
Wang will re-sign with the Yankees if they offer the most money/years. If they don’t, he will sign with the team that does. It is as simple as that.
OT: Notice how Texas ran at will on Posada last night. Expect more of the same from Tampa. The NYY grounds crew better water down the basepaths or the Tampa Bay track team will set some records. Either that or catch Cervelli as much as possible with Posada DHing.

no, i don’t think we would hit it off. in a very funny story one time i really did have my teams GM in a head lock as i was told by tony cloninger our pitching coach to get him out of there after our manager clete boyer and the GM exchanged punches at a team function. i had to take him down a hotel hallway, down the elevator, through the lobby, and then into a taxi without him seeing my face.
that was not the position a bull pen catcher wants to be in. talk abut jumping the shark. luckily he was too drunk to remember me the next day.
I know that SJ, I’m talking overall fielding, we all know he isn’t better than Reyes fielding, take Raul Ibanez he leads the league in HRs this season is he a better HR hitter than Alex, hell no.
“Wang will re-sign with the Yankees if they offer the most money/years. If they don’t, he will sign with the team that does. It is as simple as that.”
don’t be so sure.
Who ever is going to the game leave now! and ask Cash what he wants to do about the bullpen lol.
Re: Jeter
I think we all watch his throws.
In the past 20 games or so there has been one that tex had to save, if memory serves. Frankly I’ve been pleasantly surprised by his play in the field.
I haven’t seen Tex have to save too many errors so far this year. Most of the throws from Arod and Jeter have been pretty true so far, although I am sure Tex will have to save them numerous times eventually. In a related note, it is very nice to see routine plays made every time at first, and the great plays becoming routine. I had gotten used to closing my eyes on any plays around the first base bag since ’01.
Brandon,
The problem with Reyes is, unlike Jeter, there is no consistency. He certainly has talent. But, baseball is a game of consistency. Playing at a high level day in and day out.
Reyes simply doesn’t do that and never has in his career.
Pure talent? No question, more pure talent than DJ.
Better player? Not even close, and that includes defensively this year.
I’ve learned so much this year about the game dealing with my nephew and dealing with teams.
One thing scouts look for, I should say the decisionmakers, look for is, consistency.
Everybody loves tools. However, the guys that make it big have consistency.
They play everyday at a high level. That’s what Reyes doesn’t do. Jeter has been doing that since Opening Day in Cleveland, 1996.
Uncle E. there’s been more than one, but I’m more impressed he’s not throwing balls away this yr. and putting it in the pocket instead of attempting that off balance patented on legged throw so much.
“don’t be so sure.”
A nice big contract always heals a lot of bad feelings. The question is: with the way the Yanks have seemed to treat Wang, will they be interested in giving him a fair offer?
Maybe somebody can clear this up, but, has Jeter lost a little size in the upper body, because, although he’s lost that half a step (due to age), he looks more loose and flexible in the field, in particular.
““Wang will re-sign with the Yankees if they offer the most money/years. If they don’t, he will sign with the team that does. It is as simple as that.”
don’t be so sure.”
Playing for the Yankees in the Asian/Chinese market is VERY important. Matsui has said that he would have not heavily considered other teams when he was a free agent 4 years ago.
Michael Kay is the biggest Yankee leak here.
He just revealed what GI Joe told Tex after he was hit
“Don’t worry we’ll take care of it”
He saids the team is taking on GI Joe’s edge.
“A nice big contract always heals a lot of bad feelings. The question is: with the way the Yanks have seemed to treat Wang, will they be interested in giving him a fair offer?”
No, unless they come to their senses, they’ll lowball him like they did Pettitte after ’03.

I think your accurate. I was looking at the newer movies that have more potential to still make money. The new movie UP made 68 mil this week and looks like it will make around 170 ish. Transformers IMO will gross over 200 mil and over take Star Trek due to less competition when its released.

Refreshing. One of the reasons im pro Girardi. Defend and protect your players at all times. Dont miss the camera shots at the excessive nose digging during games.
Stultus,
Didnt Pettittes wife want to go back to Texas? Im not sure that they could have kept him in 03.
Reyes is a showboater who takes plays off. If he weren’t, with his talent, he could clearly be a badly-needed leader on that Mets team.
The Yanks offered Pettitte more money than Houston. One issue was the delay/timing of the offer from Pettitte’s point of view. His wife did want to go home, but, part of that was a rumor about Pettitte’s “sometimes room mate” while the wife and kids were in Texas.

wang is hard to read. no one knows how ticked off he is inside. i’m just saying it’s a mistake to take it for granted he’s going to be an easy signing for the yankees when free agency comes along.
because someone is quiet doesn’t mean they aren’t a competitor. i think the yankees are misjudging wang and his dissatisfaction with them.

Randy – Jerry Royster is looking for you.
Pictures, please, Peter.
Nice of Trost and Levine to send Caashman and Girardi out to try to offset the public relations beating the team has taken.
I’d rather Trost come out and meet the fans!!
Of course he’d only speak to those holding legends seats.
The rest of the “rif raff” would be ushered away.
