The Yankee Clippers
The Yankees sent CC Sabathia and Phil Coke to Jordan’s Barber Shop in the Bronx to give free haircuts to neighborhood kids.
I wouldn’t let Phil Coke get within 10 feet of me with clippers. Those are brave kids. The Yankees sent these photos, so I figured I would pass them along. Maybe Deadspin, Big League Stew or The Big Lead will have some fun with them.

that’s funny
ps andy really hurt the team tonight by pitching when he wasn’t 100%. he cared more about adding to his innings total so he can collect his bonuses than the team
Not bad. CC should have been a barber instead.
This is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
“what will it be kid ? ya got two options the JoeyG high and tight or the Jeter fade”
At least there was no SwishHawk involved!!
Oh my goodness gracious enough with the “oooh that selfish andy stealing starts when he isn’t well” crap. Nobody knows anything. And nothing personal, commenter bill.
It’s 1:20 a.m. here in west coast land, I just got home from a couple cocktails and logged on to write my buddy in Taiwan before going to sleep and see I already have an email from him subjected: ‘Wang to start tomorrow’ and reading “What a surprise! I am looking forward to it (also a little bit afraid)!”
I love our global Yankee community. Onward we roll.
People are overlooking the Yankees’ plan to have team members at the gates once for each home stand. People complained about the legends seats separating the rest of the fans from the team and the Yankees have actually responded with a great idea. They also cut ticket prices in half most of the expensive seats and you can usually get a ticket to a game on stubhub for below face value.
Those are 2 of the 3 real complaints. The 3rd is how easy balls are getting hit out. The league won’t let the Yankees do anything about that now, but I’m sure they already have plans to address the problem in the offseason.
It’s good to see that as big of a company as the Yankees are, they realize that they need to listen to their customers and do their best to make them happy. Most people didn’t think that would be the case.
Listening to Carton right now and he is playing the Porn Star and Melky video right now. Can somebody ask him who cares?!? That was absolutely ridiculous.
Hey, look: “the White Sox will designate infielder Wilson Betemit for assignment.”

“I want to be a catcher and I’m working for that. I think I’m going to be a catcher. I want it, I love it. I want to be a catcher.”
this from jesus montero
montero is going to move very fast.
i would not be suprised if he is up next year.not early but before 2011
the mets are lucky that the phillied don’t have a great pitching staff.
they would be 7 games out.
phillies
I doubt Andy is healthy – even after a good night’s sleep, I’m still PO’d that he had to skip a pen session because of his back and the Yankees still allowed him to play. I don’t care what Andy wants – let him be pissed – the only thing that matters is what’s best for him (again, regardless of what he wants) and the team. Going out there with a balky back (which could turn worse and then lead to arm problems) doesn’t help anyone. The Yankees need to put their foot down with him and skip one or two starts……..and ,also, get this thing checked out with the doctors.
Is crazy because Live around where that barbershop is at.
“i would not be suprised if he is up next year.not early but before 2011″
His catching needs enough work that he’ll likely get little more than a September cup o coffee callup next year. Posada is probably the #1 C thru 2011. Maybe Montero is up to work with Posada in ’11 in much the way Posada did with Girardi 11-12 years back.
we don’t know how bad his back is & andy has a lot of pull.
4 runs can be overcome.
we have to beat up on boston when we play them.
if montero’s bat is on fire they will get him at bats.
if posada can’t throw runners out he will dh.
“we have to beat up on boston when we play them.”
Some pretty favorable matchups in 2 of those games. Boston’s off Monday, so Beckett throws vs. Wang in Game 1. That’s a pretty big edge to the Red Sox. Unless they switch things up, which is unlike them, Wakefield and Penny throw Games 2 & 3 against Sabathia and Chamberlain, which is a decided edge for the Yankees.
Folks, we lost 1 game. The sun rose today. Everything is going to be ok.
“if posada can’t throw runners out he will dh.”
Montero has thrown out 13% of the guys who tried stealing (8 of 64). He’ll be DH’ing if the issue is thowing out basestealers.

Catcher Jose Molina, who strained his left quadriceps on May 7, is essentially back to the beginning in his comeback after a magnetic resonance imaging exam revealed a recurrence of the injury. Molina could miss up to four more weeks, according to Brian Cashman. ..
That kid looks so happy. Now he can walk into school today and say CC cut my hair! I hope the Yankees gave him pictures of it, so they’ll believe him. He’ll be the coolest kid in school.
Let’s worry about the Yankees beating both the Rangers and Rays.
One game at a time guys.
if we learned anything from cervelli it is if the need is there montero will get a shot especially if he is raking in the minore.
it is hard to ignore when a minor leaguer is killing AA & especially AAA.
the yankees have a perfect opportunity to dh posada in 2010 being that he struggles throwing runners out & he will be 38 yrs old in august.
very rare for a 38 yr old catcher.
pretty amazing what he is doing offensively at his age as a catcher.
hiss offense has to be protected imo by dh’ing him.
I’m disappointed with the Yankees fans. We keep hearing and seeing that since AROD has returned the Yankees have been the best team in baseball. We cheer him when he hits and we know he needs and cares about the fans support. Yet he has one off night (where he still delivered a run and made some good throws at 3b) and he gets booed. Am I surprised? No. But it shows you how spoiled and unaware the fan base is. Some may point to his off field antics, his scandals and that’s fair and causes a dilemma. But he has rushed back from surgery to support the team and when he gets the fans support we’ve all seen what he can do. So cheer your players, don’t boo them.
“we have to beat up on boston when we play them.”
How about beating up on Texas today and Tampa the 4 days following that instead of worrying about a game that can’t be played for 6 days?
The kid’s 19 and has played one game at AA. He’s a great prospect and should have a bright future. Let’s not get carried away here.
His back was fine. He just pitched poorly. He hasn’t pitched well in the new stadium. He’s the one starter who isn’t yet comfortable pitching in the new stadium.
That’s just the way it goes. They had plenty of chances to win the game. They just didn’t get the big hit. That’s baseball.
The booing of Arod pales in comparison to the whining in the game threads about him. Its as if one bad night threw everything else out the window.
To me, those are idiot fans. Unfortunately, the Yankees have a quite a few idiot fans in their fan base.
SJ,
Please stop thinking rationally, and making complete sense. This place will have none of it…..

boston is different because head to head it can sepparate us,give us a mental edge & change the power rankings.
we have not taken over boston in the power rankings & standings for years.it would be nice.
bru,
Its not college football. Power rankings mean nothing.
“Mental edge”? Doesn’t mean a thing.
That’s fan panic. The players don’t care about that stuff.
The booing is getting out of control. Do the morons at the stadium and the ones that post here realize how far this team has come since Alex’s return! We were under .500 with out him! Now we are tied for the best record in the AL! I mean come on. The team was playing something like 800 ball since he returned you can’t expect them to play at that clip. Hey you win some and you lose some. You kow sometimes that pitcher on the other team is trying to get you out, and is better than you.
Jennifer:
1) Texas now has the AL’s best record. Yankees and Wang can grab it back today.
2) 16-4 has been a lot more about pitching and defense than Arod’s return. Teixeira certainly seemed to benefit from his return, but overall the offensive production remained about the same as it was before Arod.
3) Won’t complain about booing. Players are cheered loudly when they do well. Not unreasonable to see them booed when they play poorly (read: putrid at bats, key errors, etc.). Arod fared pretty poorly in some big spots last night.
I don’t like booing. But, I recognize that it’s merely a way of venting dissatisfaction with a play.
What I think is ridiculous is booing a home player when there is no play involved, i.e., a name is simply announced and people boo.
I did not get that vibe about Alex last night. I thought the booing was in direct reaction to his non-productive outs last night with a chance to drive in runs. I won’t go so far as to say he “deserved” to be booed, but he certainly didn’t deserve any cheers for those at-bats.
He did get cheered when he drove in their first run.
Alex himself said he stunk. And he did, last night. He does not stink (yet) today. Every game is a clean slate. Every day, every at-bat, a chance to do something positive. All I think fans need to do is give the players the benefit of the doubt that (a) they are trying to do something good – i.e., they’re not lazy or goofing off; (b) sometimes though you try your best, the desired results might not be there. It’s so annoying when people get all bent out of shape before the player has even seen a pitch.
Nice pics. I’ve been to this barbershop before. My friend gets his cut there. They have pictures of pretty much every team’s players. The players go there to get their cuts when they are here playing. They have a “VIP” room down stairs for the players to get their cuts. They are VERY expensive but I guess they get to charge whatever they want because ball players get their cuts there.
Next yr. ? if it’s next yr. it’ll be Sept. he’s going to work on his catch and throws all year.
It is great of CC and Coke to cut the hair of the kids. For the rest of life, some one will be able to say he had a hair cut by CC Sabathia. Good for the Yankees.
Don’t you need a license to cut hair?
