Yes, it is raining

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Jun 05, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Shockingly, the Yankees do not consult with the beat writer from The Journal News as to their weather-related plans. So I have no idea what they will do today.

I would imagine they’ll do what they normally do: Open the gates at 4 p.m. and wait and see what it looks like at game time. Then wait an hour or so and either play the game or postpone it.

It’s supposed to rain on the Bronx until around 6 p.m. and then clear up. So there would seem to be at least a decent chance of playing.

If any further news is revealed, it will be posted on the blog.

    Hope we see some ball.

Wow Pete, that’s good news. I heard steady, driving rain until 2:00 AM. But I’m glad it’s gonna clear up.

  3. Joel June 5th, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Hopefully there will be a game today, I have tickets so I will be pretty upset if the game is called.

    We want DEBORAH!

  5. John June 5th, 2009 at 2:39 pm

I’d rather see them just cancel it now and play a doubleheader tommorow? I don’t want to risk wasting a start from Sabathia.

what a difference a few hours makes, the second epicenter of that storm was over DC at about 10am. Now its over NY and looks clear afterwards. I’m starting to garner hope we get the game in.

  7. EvoLuTioN June 5th, 2009 at 2:40 pm

why would you want them to play a doubleheader?

besides, tampa is a division rival, i highly doubt we would have a doubleheader anyway

  8. David June 5th, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Weather.com has at least a 75% chance of rain until about midnight. Doubtful that they will get this game in.

  9. Wang vs. Sox? We'll see. June 5th, 2009 at 2:41 pm

I’m not scared of Boston. They’re not an easy match, but they’re human. Our comebackers can come back against anybody. Darn the stats. We’ve come back against the Sox, just at times when our bullpen blew it (still bad, but improved from then anyway) or our starters got absolutely tattooed (world of difference there).

John, I heard Don Lagreca say that the Yanks wanted to get the game in at all costs because they already have two rain outs

  11. vin June 5th, 2009 at 2:41 pm

    from last thread:

“If the Yankees were swept 4 games last weekend in Cleveland some folks here would have been suicidal.”

Would that be such a bad thing? ;)

Curious to see if Longoria is still bothered by his hamstring this weekend

  13. Wang vs. Sox? We'll see. June 5th, 2009 at 2:42 pm

David, I saw something similar yesterday. Different radars show different things apparently, so we’ll see.

“I guess I’m glad the Rays are underperforming their pythagorean projections!”

    wave your hat-

on the other hand it’d be very sweet if the yankees win the division and the rays knock off the red sox.

by the way, the pythagorean standings are one thing i like that bill james created. there are always some interesting surprises there.

  15. Boogie Down Bob June 5th, 2009 at 2:42 pm

I love that attitude Wang vs. Sox

  16. Jason June 5th, 2009 at 2:42 pm

Doubt they would play a doublheader tomorrow. I’m guessing they would reschedule for September 10th and make that a 4 game series. The Yankees don’t have to travel for the weekend series and the Rays are just heading up to Boston.

  17. Betsy June 5th, 2009 at 2:43 pm

Great, and the field will be a mess. Everytime the Yankees play in these conditions, someone gets hurt – Posada the last time and, in Texas, Melky banged up his shoulder. I really don’t want them to play this game.

    Boogie Down Bob, thanks. :-)

    From the previous thread -

Boston knows, just like we do, that Tampa is the only threat to either of us making the playoffs. It’s too early to look at WC/divisions, but nobody can deny the obvious. I’d imagine they would want Tampa put away, then they can battle it out with us for the division. I think most fans would want that as well.

Winning the division is nice, but getting to the playoffs is the most important thing. Tampa is the only team that stands in the way of both teams doing just that.

  20. Wang vs. Sox? We'll see. June 5th, 2009 at 2:44 pm

Betsy, I think Melky banging his shoulder had more to do with Melky than the field.

I want to play. They’re professionals, they just have to be careful.

  21. Melkid June 5th, 2009 at 2:45 pm

Oh look is not another one of Pete’s post defending one of his pet boys and trashing all of the Hispanics on the team.

  22. Wang vs. Sox? We'll see. June 5th, 2009 at 2:45 pm

I’d settle for wild card, but only if we had to.

    GB,

Funny isn’t it? Folks are already getting themselves into a lather over a series that isn’t even here yet.

Its as if they are practicing their cries for the game threads as soon as the Yankees fall behind in games.

If some of you are so sure the Yankees are in “trouble” in Boston, why watch the games? Just decide they are losses and move on.

You will save yourselves a lot of aggrevation.

I’m waiting for somebody to start complaining tomorrow about the lineup that’s posted on 6 June, 2010. It’s not far off.

I see that Red sox fan, Dennis is here causing trouble and promoting Chamberlain for the bullpen.

Personally, I think the Sox should use Beckett for the 6th inning, Paplebon in the 7th inning, Youkilis off the bench and Pedroia as the utility dwarf.

  24. R+ June 5th, 2009 at 2:46 pm

Not only do we get hurt, we also never win these “rainy” games either.

  25. Wang vs. Sox? We'll see. June 5th, 2009 at 2:46 pm

    Melkid-Please.

  26. Wang vs. Sox? We'll see. June 5th, 2009 at 2:47 pm

Great guys, now you’re pronouncing the game lost because it’s raining?

    This is too much.

    GB7.

I was just hitting google for a definition of the word “smuck”…I will stop now. I figured it was adverb describing a slimy move by a Sox fan. I am relieved now.

Typical Red Sox fan….making fun of the typing challenged. Next thing you know, you’ll want us bussed to Mavis Bacon’s typing school….as long as it’s in our neighborhood.

  28. Boogie Down Bob June 5th, 2009 at 2:47 pm

LOL Pedroia as the utility dwarf….hahaha I love it. I cant stand mini-me

  29. John June 5th, 2009 at 2:48 pm

Well I know the Yankees are making up a game against the Angels in September and I don’t know if they want to use all their off-days making up double-headers in the final month of the season. Rather see them get some off-days before (hopefully) heading into the playoffs

  30. John June 5th, 2009 at 2:51 pm

i wrote making up double headers.. i meant rain outs*

  32. Tom B June 5th, 2009 at 3:01 pm

where are these weather reports about the storm clearing?

i’m looking at the radar and its gonna take at least 6 hours for the back end of the storm to push through.

  33. DB - (officially panicked 5/13/09) June 5th, 2009 at 3:05 pm

Yeah Tom, and I think they’ll wait till 9pm for that too

  34. Steve June 5th, 2009 at 3:23 pm

6:00? I dunno where you’re getting that from, but every weather report I’ve seen shows rain rain all night past midnight. There’s the rain has been moving extremely slow all day, I doubt it’ll pick up in the next few hours.
