Only in baseball
The three errors by Tampa Bay’s Dioner Navarro were the most for a catcher since Cleveland’s Einar Diaz had three on June 1, 2001.
The opponent that day: The Yankees.
Pitching for Cleveland: CC Sabathia.
Meanwhile, Randy Choate has three saves in four games for the Rays. He had made 196 relief appearance in his career before that without picking up any saves.

We need to get Heath Bell, now. Street is the 2nd option.
Still don’t know how we lost a game when the other team committed 4 errors.
We should trade for Randy Choate, he is a yankee guy. He fits in. He plays the game the right way.
m: Because only one of the errors came with RISP.
Trevor,
No, this is an old quote. When asked about NYS, CC said something like it wouldn’t be a problem with his stuff. I thought it was kind of a cavalier attitude at the time.
So, even if the HRs were no-doubters, it’s kind of karmic that he got hit in the very next game he pitched after saying it wouldn’t be a problem.
“Still don’t know how we lost a game when the other team committed 4 errors”
They didn’t turn them into big innings. They scored only 2 runs on those errors.
Thanks, Rebecca. I was tuning in and out of the game. CC had a 2-0 lead and when I came back it was 5-2. Next time I’ll stay glued and maybe our luck will be better.
Ah, the great karma konversation kontinues.
Karma? I’ll buy irony and/or coincidence.
The New York Yankees will become the first MLB team to have its games streamed live online within its home market, thanks to a landmark carriage deal YES Network signed with Cablevision earlier this spring.
The streamed games will begin later this season and will be available via subscription to Cablevision’s TV and broadband customers who subscribe to a tier that carries the YES Network, according to several baseball and cable industry sources.
The move is part of an overall renewal of Cablevision’s YES Network affiliation deal that was signed earlier this spring but never officially announced.
The pact also marks the first major effort within baseball for in-market streaming — an issue that has troubled the industry for years. Several clubs that hold equity interest in regional sports networks, such as the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles, have pressed for in-market streaming to complement MLB.TV’s out-of-market online video package.

Get Street NOW!!!!!!!

Pardons if this was posted, but this is just the greatest article. Not only is Ross a cutey, but he’s smart. Like brilliant.
Oh, God. The end times are here. The world as we know it is crumbling…Not only are the Red Sox winning 1-0 after 2 innings, but the Ortiz slump is over. He has 4 hits in June.
Oh, Pete. The blog ate up my post about Ross Ohlendorf.
Will try again. Kid is brilliant.

Those 4 hits equals his entire total of hits from the month of may. PAPI IS BACK!!!!
Okay, now I’m irritated. Blog won’t let me post the link, I guess.
Great article by Tim Kurkjian on how brilliant Ross Ohlendorf is at espn.com.
grrr, Pete.
McAllister is a 21 year old prospect on the rise who is dominating in his first year at AA.
And yet, people are ready to give him up for Huston Street, who couldn’t beat out Manny Corpas for the closer’s job last year, and only got it back this year because Corpas is so terrible.
Then, people want to give up McCallister for Heath Bell, who pitches in the most pitcher friendly park in the majors.
Absurd.
Cash has to trade for someone who could pitch the 8th inning, or close if Mo is not available on a certain day. Who knows how Mo is going to be later on in the season once he has 50 innings in his arm or next season. Street could be the guy it is just what they want for him and what Cash thinks is too much. He is only 26 years old and it might make sense to give up what you have to, considering he could help Mo until he retires. The last thing they would want is Mo really getting hit around and they have no one in the wings to help take over.
This is the time that is always worst for me. I get so ensconced in the game of baseball that when it is over for the season I feel really empty. I guess I’ll just have to wait until hot stove begins.
What? Yankees are where? What place????? Yankees are in first place?
OHHHHH. Never mind.
GO RAAAAAANGERS!!!
HEY! I HEARD THAT JON LESTER IS PITCHING A NO HITTER!!! ACTUALLY A NO NO!!!!
Here’s hopin’!
From the “it was only a matter of time” category, Jon Lester is back to being dominant.
Just another roadmine. Luckily, he won’t face the Yankees next series.
Why does everyone insist we keep any Yankee prospect who looks decent when we have a very clear area of need on the big club. McAllister is dominating AA but scouts say at best he is a number 3-4 starter at his ceiling. We need bullpen, if we keep Joba as a starter then this is what must be done to keep us in it.
doesnt street have diminished stuff due to some injury he suffered..or am i wrong
Lester is PERFECT tonight, 7 Ks after 4, touching 98MPH he looks disgusting
Because you don’t give up a blue-chip prospect for questionable bullpen arms.
Want to give up a horse like McAllister? It’s not for Street or Bell, who, by the way, pitch in the worst division in baseball.
How do you think they would fare in the toughest division?
McAllister may not be a No.1, but he is a middle of the rotation horse in the making, like Derek Lowe, and you don’t give those up for Street or Bell.
Heath Bell is actually as good or better on the road than at home, and has an 11 k/9. I would take Heath Bell on this team but I don’t know who I’d trade for him.
Wish we had a pitcher who could dominate every time out like Lester
Filthy throwing 98, strikeouts, dominant
considering hes 4-5 with a 5.27 era, you would hate him if we had him.
We better get Street, or we’re going to fall into 3rd place soon
This bullpen is ATROCIOUS. Not a single person you can trust, even the closer is no longer lights out. Big problem. Especially since Boston’s pen is the best in baseball
Maine knocked out in the fifth, 7-0 Nats.
The universe is disordered tonight.
Wow. Lester is better than I’ve ever seen him. The Rangers have no chance against him tonight.
This is not good.
Wish we had a pitcher who has a losing record and a 5.32 era.
You would think we were the Toronto Blue Jays with the number of complaints I am reading. Stop the insanity someone.
Is Maine still sick? It’s as though today is bizarro day
51 pitches in 5 innings. 9 Ks. Not bad. ZERO HITS
You don’t have to give up Zach McAllister for Huston Street.
As the deadline nears, prices will fall into line for players.
Nobody in baseball is giving up their best minor league pitching prospect for a bullpen arm.
They have the parts to get bullpen help and they will add an arm, maybe two, during the season.
They just aren’t going to go in panic mode and do it in June 6.
Lester has not been dominate everytime out at all this year. He is a very very good pitcher. I am absolutely not denying that, but he has had his fair share of struggles this year.
2-0 Sox, the Elf
Yeah, Jon Lester sucks. Perfect logic.
I’m sure you actually believe what you are typing too.
It’s one thing to be a homer, it’s another to deny logic completely.
Who dominates every time out??
A pitcher like that could go far!
Heath Bell is the best closer in baseball right now. Cherry pick all you want. In the end, Heath Bell is numero uno right now and we need an 8th inning guy who can also close on occasion. .94 WHIP and 11 k’s per 9 innings and 0 HR’s surrendered.
US-Honduras about to start on ESPN
That’s right 2009. I’m looking at you you YOU.
USA needs this win going to Mexico for their next qualifier. Bob Bradley could get fired if they lose this tonight.

I sense that the love you have for Heath Bell is very strong
I agree with the comment in another thread about the Yanks starters being very overrated. Lester has been up and down this season but even he is capable of taking over a game and dominating the opposition. No Yankee starter can do that. Our number one guy can’t hold a lead unless it’s 10-0 or close to it.
There is going to be all sorts of panic when the third game at Fenway is over on Thursday. It looks to be a disastrous week ahead.
Cherry picking stats would be calling Heath Bell the best closer in baseball.
WOW. 1-0 Honduras already!
US already losing

They’ll get over it. They’ve spent 2 lifetimes panicing.
He could have his own special 8th inning music when he comes out of the bullpen:
You can ring my be-e-ell
Ring my bell
(My bell, you can ring my bell)
Great. Lester is going to throw his 2nd no hitter tonight. Day just keeps getting worse and worse
Our ace gives up 5 runs to John Dillion, Erick Aybar etc.
My love for Heath Bell will go stronger if Cashman puts him in pinstripes and he becomes the bridge to Mo even if for only 2009. The Sox traded Hanley Ramirez for a missing piece and they got 2 rings out of it but these chicken littles are afraid AFRAID to trade Zachary McAllister in order to fix our biggest weakness. Oh, how in the world will we ever win without McAllister in our rotation?
Oh yeah…CC, Wang, Burnett, Joba, Hughes and down the line Brackman, Betances, C. Garcia, De La Rosa etc. etc. and on and on.
OH NOZZZZ
Phil hughes dominated this same ranger team over 8 innings.
Joba Chamberlain dominated the indians.
CC Sabathia threw a complete game shut out.
AJ Burnett dominated the Rays when they had a full lineup
AHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hahahahahahahahaha
The middle relief is not why we lost today
Rivera continuing his decline is the reason why. Bell, Street etc. would not have pitched the 9th today, considering they had yesterday off and MO was fresh.
The bigger problem is Rivera and his dominance coming to an end. That was the one constant we have always had. If that is gone too… then what? We’ve lost out biggest advantage.
He IS the best closer in baseball RIGHT NOW. That’s with all of the stats on hand for the 2009 season. Dig into his past, forcast his future and you still can’t deny the here and NOW.
Get it bucco?
How many no hitters has Lester thrown against John Dillon, Erick Aybar, etc…?
Lester is gonna get this Perfect game.
If you have NESN, spare yourself some misery. Lester has perfect game stuff.
Hey nick, how bout this one by Metallica

What will happen to your love for Bell if Cashman does not put him in pinstripes?
I really have no patience today for people who say they’ve had a bad day because the Yankees lost and Lester might throw another no-no.
You want a bad day?
How about being the father of the girl hit in the face with a line drive foul ball. As far as I could see, she was knocked out by the pitch-not moving at all in her father’s arms..
Yeah, it really sucks that the Yankees might end the day a half game out of first with two thirds of a season still to play…
Ortiz goes deep
Gonna kill myself now
Lester is a very good pitcher. I never said he sucked. I just posted his season stats in responce to the poster who claimed that he dominates every night. Doesn’t make me some blind homer.
There are some Yankee fans who belive that every Sox player is great regardless of how they’re performing. I’m just tired at worshipping at that alter….
What will happen to your love for Bell if Cashman does not put him in pinstripes?

I will pray that he goes to the Rays and busts.
Carl: That was worse than any yankee stadium HR. 300 feet and hit the pesky pole in the foul area of the stands.

Yeah im watching lol. Just being dramatic.
Kris Benson is just a disgrace at this point in his career. Might as well wave the white flag.
Green Barette,
No matter how hard little me tries i will never be as tough as you
How a out the deep voice of Orson Welles saying:
“Ask not for whom the Bell tolls;
It tolls for THEE”
Nick,
I did not know this:
“For Whom the Bell Tolls” (1943 film based on the novel by Ernest Hemmingway).
For Whom the Bell Tolls is a pretty darned good book. I heartily recommend it as a good read. Pretty good movie, too. Gary Cooper, I think.
Gee, the things that get discussed on this blog….
The best thing Hemingway ever wrote is this:
“Have faith in the Yankees, my son.” – Old Man and the Sea.
Did your day get better now because Michael Young got a hit off Lester?
No but it could have been worse.
No lie- as soon as I clicked on this thread and read that Lester was picthing a no-no, I went to the Yahoo gamecast and he instantly gave up the hit to Young. I think I jinxed him
Congratulations to David Ortiz. He has now caught up to Brett Gardner in the home run column
sox starters seem to be turning the corner. we need to go on a streak!
I don’t know its not that hard to turn the corner against the free swinging Texas. Beckett is on though.
If you think losing to Tampa is bad, imagine going to Spain to fight ths Fascists, finding out your compatriots were all Communists, getting bombed by the Luftwaffe, and then – well, I don’t want to spoil the Spanish Civil War for anyone.
Happy D-Day, by the way. Stupid Ratzis!
When I was in graduate school, I took class on Ernest Hemingway.
His life and his works. Class was in a bar and we left every week loaded and depressed.
From the – It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt file.
“Alex Rodriguez narrowly escaped harm Saturday when a foul ball hit by a Little Leaguer whizzed by him and struck another man during an appearance in the Bronx.
A-Rod, a little more than an hour after the Yankees’ 9-7 loss to the Rays at Yankee Stadium, was coaching third base for the Alex Rodriguez All-Stars in an exhibition game against a Manhattan team coached by actor Richard Gere.
Wearing a pink polo shirt, gray V-neck sweater and jeans, A-Rod had to dodge a line drive from a youngster. A man standing behind him was struck in the face but required no medical attention.
A-Rod watched the rest of the inning from behind the fenced-in first-base dugout. He later returned to the baselines.”
http://www.newsday.com/sports/.....?track=rss
I am taking a class similiar to that Tom. Except it isn’t in a bar, though I wish it was.
I have sat here for 9 hours debating with myself on how I should be writing the paper. Funny how I havent even opened up the article I am writing a review on. Sigh, I hate graduate school.
It could have been even worse, Tom, it could have been a Charles Buchowski seminar.
My grandfather fought at d-day. First wave bloody Omaha beach. His landing craft was blown up, he escaped that, but, was shot 5 times once he got to shore. He survived.
I would have left that class, Nick, muttering “Boring damned people. All over the earth. Propagating more boring damned people. What a horror show. The earth swarmed with them”, all the time.
Pretty incredible story, Tom. Thank goodness for men like him. They saved our world.
Yogi Berra also saw action on D-day.
