Wish I had thought of this first, but Deadspin did.
Anyway, Gillette missed a triple play today. Official Gillette spokesman Roger Federerererer won the French Open. Official Gillette spokesman Tiger Woods won The Memorial and Official Gillette spokesman Derek Jeter … went 0 for 4 and couldn’t get a bunt down.
But the good news is the Yankees won, he makes a lot of money and the babes love him.

Rios wasn’t obligated to sign, but he should have exercised some restraint, especially in front of cameras. I wouldn’t have exchanged words with him, though. Rios isn’t exactly a little dude.

Sorry but I disagree. When a kid asks for your autograph, you should have the courtesy to sign. This is how the Jays players treat their fans and they wonder why no one cares to watch them play.

Rios had a 5 strike out game that day, was obviously frustrated but was in the wrong and apologized for being a jerk.
Athletes making millions of dollars need to know how to show restraint and respect in public at all times. Everyone should, but when you’re the focus of everyone’s attention it’s ever more critical. And to use that language? Disgraceful. He could have said have vented frustration without cursing, made light of it, or shrugged it off.

I thought about that and I understand Rios probably wasn’t in a great mood, had a bad day, etc. But when it comes it kid’s, especially fans, you have to make the effort. For Rios to spare that kid 5 seconds to say Hi and give an autograph, it would have meant the world to him. Instead, that kid will always remember Rios as the guy who is a huge jerk.
That’s just the press acting like big shots. Nothing special , Rios is still over there.

Sweeney’s such a dope……….the Yankees HAVE to take 2/3 to show everyone that the Yankees are as good. Prior to that, he admitted that the Yankees have played well enough to bring themselves back into the game. Interesting that Mike thinks, except for the pen, the Yankees are a better team. Of course, you can’t just forget the pen, but I’m still surprised…….

I called you out because you wondered why Sweeney had a job and then lauded Waldman. NOT because you disagreed with Sweeney.
When quite honestly, it should be the other way around. Waldman was good as a beat reporter but awful as a color commentator for Yankee games.
Sweeney has worked his way up through the ranks and is deserving of his spot.
I can think of multiple people who would work better in the booth. Kim Jones, for one. I would LOVE to hear Chris Carlin as Sterling’s partner, only because it would knock Sterling on his butt.
There are so many better options than Waldman in the booth. But no one sees it.
Waldman cried – CRIED!!!! on air at least 2 or 3 times when the Yankees were eliminated. That is the pinnacle of being non-professional.

I love listening to baseball on the radio. One of my favorite radio memories is listening to game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. Charley Steiner and Sterling were magic in that game.
But sterling has turned into a parody of himself, where he just wants to get his catchphrases out. And it’s SUCKS that he has a catchphrase for every single player. Tex, Swish, and Damon DO NOT NEED catchphrases. Even the whole A-bomb from A-rod thing is awful.
Melk man delivers? Fine. Robbie Cano, don’t you know? Not a problem. El Capitan? Perfect.

I also love how the players in the Yes booth call out Kay when he’s being stupid, but that’s another story.

Matty – I don’t have an opinion on Suzyn as a color commentator because I almost never listen to the radio. I loved her as a beat reporter – she always got such great info from the clubhouse. I honestly don’t know Sweeney’s resume – for me, it just seemed he popped up out of nowhere. I don’t “not like” Sweeney because I don’t always agree with his opinions – I really just don’t think he does that great a job. Different strokes for different folks.

Kim Jones does a good job and I love her blog……Chris Carlin? Don’t like. When he was on WFAN, it was painful listening, so I just shut him off. Sterling I have fun with, BUT he is starting to piss me off with his missed calls. I get excited when he calls what appears to be a HR or a hit (for the Yanks, of course) and when it ends up being an out, it’s a giant let down.
I miss Scooter, White and Messer on ch 11, with the Yanekes logo and the great Yankees theme song…..

Sweeny actually knows what he’s talking about 99.9% of the time. That doesn’t mean I agree with everything he says, but he does have sound logic and reasoning behind his opinions most of the time.
Waldman hardly knows what she’s talking about .01% of the time.
Frankly, and this may upset the opposite gender, but I really believe the only reason she still has a job is because she’s a woman and she’s been in the organization for a long time.
It’s certainly not because of her stellar work because she’s terrible at everything she does.

He was the cure for overnight radio, srsly, he knew his HW w/ players, brought guys like Nardi Contreras and Baseball Prospectus scouts and even Patrick Teale on his show, no one knows sports in the overnight like him, and he mixed it w/ so much humor, YES landed a gem, that guy excels at anything w/ sports interviews or commentary.
Yeah, because it is so outrageous to suggest that we need to win a series from our rival.
We are 0-5 against them. This is a statement series. Girardi wouldn’t have pushed AJ back to a weeks rest and re-shuffle the rotation if he felt otherwise.
Put it like this if he were on SNY common sense would hit that network, he could take over for Sweeney right now and prbly do a better job.

I though Cano’s walk was huge because he hardly walks. And Howell had every incentive to not walk him, because it would, well, force in a run. It was just passing the baton to the next guy when he could’ve easily swung early in the count as he is wont to do. Not downplaying Alex’s walk, and maddon surely is a better mind than me. But if maddon knew how precious Cano’s walks are to a Yankee fan, maybe he’d change his mind!

Girardi feels it is a big series, otherwise he would have kept the rotation intact, not flip flopped Andy and Burnett, especially since Burnett will have 2 extra days rest.
Francona feels otherwise. He has Penny going in the final game vs. CC, despite the fact that Lester is also on normal rest.
Not that it matters, but it isin’t the normal, meaningless series some people are making it out to be.
Does it bother anyone that Phil Hughes hasn’t pitched in a game for over 7 days? There’s no way he can be thrust into any kind of close game at this point with the risk of him being rusty.

Question moron and the jock this morning said something about the Yankees/Mets game being moved to the espn game. Said “I think we got an email about it” they weren’t sure and of course they never had anyone check. I looked on the Yankees site and it still shows it as a 1pm game. I know espn already has a game listed. Can they change it?
The Yankees site has it listed as 8:05 ESPN, the Mets site still has it as 1:05/TBS, so I guess they have switched it to ESPN.
I read in the paper that ESPN opted not to take the game and that it is still Sunday at 1. My program guide on YES has the game for 1PM
Oops, I was looking at the game later this month, which is already scheduled for ESPN. Maybe that’s what the radio guys were talking about. Since this weekend’s game is already nationally scheduled for TBS, I think they would keep it that way.

Makes me wonder why the “stalker” guy in the background has such an interest in the kid getting the autograph – could it be that the two of them where working together? That’s a possibility isn’t it? I never had much respect for autograph seekers in general but also it seems to me that when an athlete signs for millions they are obliged to deal cordially with whatever MLB crawls out from under a rock, that’s the deal they sign with the devil.
