Derek did not get the memo, apparently

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Jun 07, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Wish I had thought of this first, but Deadspin did.

Anyway, Gillette missed a triple play today. Official Gillette spokesman Roger Federerererer won the French Open. Official Gillette spokesman Tiger Woods won The Memorial and Official Gillette spokesman Derek Jeter … went 0 for 4 and couldn’t get a bunt down.

But the good news is the Yankees won, he makes a lot of money and the babes love him.

Shameless plug: Rumor has it I’m going to be on WFAN at 10:45 p.m.

  1. Oh please. June 7th, 2009 at 10:43 pm

You are correct – I’d take an 0 for 4 Jeter over the others.

  2. m June 7th, 2009 at 10:47 pm

So upset about Federer. Soderling’s a fraud, knocking off true contenders.

  3. Tom in N.J. June 7th, 2009 at 10:47 pm

The first comment on deadspin is hysterical.

  4. Scorpio June 7th, 2009 at 10:50 pm

Pete – Your shameless plug worked. Great discussion btwn you & Laurie.

  5. J-Dawg--Veintisiete en... let's try '09! June 7th, 2009 at 10:50 pm

Federer’s only challenge today was ducking that wacko who was trying to put a hat on him in the second set.

And there’s extra basketball in LA.

  6. RenataD June 7th, 2009 at 10:53 pm

  7. Carlos June 7th, 2009 at 10:54 pm

    Good Job Pete!

  8. Rebecca-Optimist Prime June 7th, 2009 at 10:55 pm

    What did Thierry Henri do?

  9. Derek Jeter June 7th, 2009 at 10:56 pm

I guess I’m entitled to a bad game when we win.

  10. Tom in N.J. June 7th, 2009 at 10:57 pm

He’s also in some of those Gillette spots with the 3 others…

Not sure if this was posted/discussed today but a crippling video of Alex Rios cursing off hecklers made it to YouTube. Not bright of him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2D7TCSjgsY

  16. Peter Abraham June 7th, 2009 at 11:04 pm

Thanks, guys. Lori does a good job. I’ve been on her show a few times now.

  17. m June 7th, 2009 at 11:07 pm

Okay, now I can say this.

Banner day for Nike as well. Federerererer, Woods, and now Bryant.

Whooo Hooo. Stole one in our own building, but a win’s a win.

  18. Sean Serritella June 7th, 2009 at 11:10 pm

I missed the interview. I had it on about 11:00 PM. I must of just missed it.

  19. Josh June 7th, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Wow. I hadn’t seen that Rios video yet. That is truly disgraceful. Would it have been that difficult to sign an autograph for that kid? To make it even worse he doesn’t even have the decency to watch his language. I hope that poor kid wasn’t a Rios fan.

  20. Betsy June 7th, 2009 at 11:12 pm

I missed Pete- anything interesting? Thanks!

  21. Opinion June 7th, 2009 at 11:12 pm

He doesn’t need to sign anything, but he does need to be polite about it.

  22. J-Dawg--Veintisiete en... let's try '09! June 7th, 2009 at 11:16 pm

Rios wasn’t obligated to sign, but he should have exercised some restraint, especially in front of cameras. I wouldn’t have exchanged words with him, though. Rios isn’t exactly a little dude. :)

  23. m June 7th, 2009 at 11:18 pm

Where did you guys see this video? I wouldn’t mind seeing what a stevedore with an angelic face like Rios would look like.

  24. Joe Mama June 7th, 2009 at 11:20 pm

Probably not easy to show restraint when some loser is calling you a bum after you struck out 5 times earlier that day

  25. Josh June 7th, 2009 at 11:21 pm

Sorry but I disagree. When a kid asks for your autograph, you should have the courtesy to sign. This is how the Jays players treat their fans and they wonder why no one cares to watch them play.

  26. Opinion June 7th, 2009 at 11:21 pm

If I were Rios I would have knocked that bum’s block off.

  27. Brandon.. "Jus get 'em out" June 7th, 2009 at 11:21 pm

So 2 Basterds won in LA tonight the other one had a Lakers jersey

  28. Opinion June 7th, 2009 at 11:22 pm

Josh, put yourself in his situation. He probably just wanted to go home. Why was he obligated to sign? What if that were you after a long, hard day?

  29. m June 7th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

    Brandon,

It would be funnier if you spelled it correctly!

  30. RenataD June 7th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

Rios pulled that crap with you, what would you say to him?

  31. pat June 7th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

Rios had a 5 strike out game that day, was obviously frustrated but was in the wrong and apologized for being a jerk.

  32. Swisher For President June 7th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

Athletes making millions of dollars need to know how to show restraint and respect in public at all times. Everyone should, but when you’re the focus of everyone’s attention it’s ever more critical. And to use that language? Disgraceful. He could have said have vented frustration without cursing, made light of it, or shrugged it off.

  33. Opinion June 7th, 2009 at 11:24 pm

    Swisher For President, agreed.

  34. RenataD June 7th, 2009 at 11:24 pm

“put yourself in his situation. He probably just wanted to go home. Why was he obligated to sign? What if that were you after a long, hard day?”

Your right but theres a better way of going about it.

  35. Matty June 7th, 2009 at 11:24 pm

Lori is definitely an upgrade over Ann Liguori, who spent a 30 minute break on her show doing a monologue about the WNBA all-star game.

The WNBA is all well and good, but it’s not exactly an inspiring topic for a call-in talk show.

  36. Opinion June 7th, 2009 at 11:24 pm

    RenataD, definitely. Not my point.

  37. Swisher For President June 7th, 2009 at 11:31 pm

Last post before bed- I heard about the Rios story from SI.com- http://www.fannation.com/truth.....s-blue-jay I wonder if he’ll get traded or anything now that this video is online. Big week ahead for the pinstripes, let’s rack up some W’s

  38. Josh June 7th, 2009 at 11:34 pm

    Opinion,

I thought about that and I understand Rios probably wasn’t in a great mood, had a bad day, etc. But when it comes it kid’s, especially fans, you have to make the effort. For Rios to spare that kid 5 seconds to say Hi and give an autograph, it would have meant the world to him. Instead, that kid will always remember Rios as the guy who is a huge jerk.

  39. Brandon.. "Jus get 'em out" June 7th, 2009 at 11:35 pm

That’s just the press acting like big shots. Nothing special , Rios is still over there.

  41. Josh June 7th, 2009 at 11:37 pm

Jays are strapped for cash anyway. They have Wells committed long term, and are getting no return on that large contract. They will let Rios go.

That guy calling him a bum is a huge stalker. Most people in Toronto know that. Rios should have just ignored him though, but people have bad days. I want to think some of you have cursed some idiot out. I know I do when I am driving quite often.

  44. Betsy June 7th, 2009 at 11:40 pm

Sweeney’s such a dope……….the Yankees HAVE to take 2/3 to show everyone that the Yankees are as good. Prior to that, he admitted that the Yankees have played well enough to bring themselves back into the game. Interesting that Mike thinks, except for the pen, the Yankees are a better team. Of course, you can’t just forget the pen, but I’m still surprised…….

  45. Brandon.. "Jus get 'em out" June 7th, 2009 at 11:41 pm

    Evan Roberts ?

  46. bob June 7th, 2009 at 11:42 pm

Rios, *wasn’t obligated to sign* ,but to throw f~bombs out in front of the kid and his lady friend, was crass, and to his fan base too,was off the hook crazy for his image. It could lead to him being traded if this snow balls with his state.

  47. Betsy June 7th, 2009 at 11:44 pm

Sweeney thinks the Yankees want payback…….and he thinks it’s a BIG deal if the Yankees lose 2/3……oy vey, I’ven ever liked Sweeney and I have no clue how he got this job

  48. Nick in SF in Larkspur June 7th, 2009 at 11:45 pm

    “What did Thierry Henri do?”

He wondered why you misspelled his name and then fondly remembered beating Man U in the Champions League final. :)

  49. Josh June 7th, 2009 at 11:45 pm

I agree with Mike. Only thing holdings the Yanks back at the moment is the lousy bullpen. Yankee Starters need to go 7 or it’s a crapshoot.

  50. Matty June 7th, 2009 at 11:50 pm

    Betsey -

You do realize who the Yankees beat reporter was before Sweeney, right?

I’ll give you a hint – the person is part of the bane of every Yankee fan’s existence.

Sweeney got his job by working hard as a 20/20 update person, and paying his dues. I have no quarrel with Sweeney.

  51. DT - OPPC member (it's in our blood) June 7th, 2009 at 11:54 pm

“I’ll give you a hint – the person is part of the bane of every Yankee fan’s existence.”

Curt Schilling? Peter Gammons? Kay, I give up.

  52. Betsy June 7th, 2009 at 11:56 pm

Wasn’t it Suzyn Waldman? I like her – much more than I do Sweeney. LOL Sweeney’s qualification was as a 20/20 update guy? Sheesh…..

  53. miggs June 7th, 2009 at 11:56 pm

    Francesa’s makeup is awful.

Orange face and white hands. So funny.

And when he looks to the side you see it stops on the hairline.

Evan Roberts loves to disagree with Francesa… he’s kind of obnoxious.

i have no quarrel wiyh Suzyn Waldman.

  55. Matty June 7th, 2009 at 11:59 pm

Betsy, if you like Waldman, I completely disqualify you as a Yankee fan. Go hang your head in shame, demand that Joba be in the bullpen, and wear a replica jersey with the name on the back. Go. Now.

  56. Oh please. June 7th, 2009 at 11:59 pm

Say what you want, but Suzyn Waldman is a good reporter – and she did a great job for WFAN… as for Sweeney, what is he supposed to say? He’s on the show to hype the series! “It’s only June, no big deal” isn’t going to fly. And Sweeney is supremely qualified for the job. He’s good at what he does – and he happens to be a pretty good writer, too. Stop hating just because you disagree with someone. It’s childish.

  57. Uncle Ellsworth (no one's askin ya how ya doin it just get it done) June 8th, 2009 at 12:00 am

    i dont mind Murti either

  58. Betsy June 8th, 2009 at 12:02 am

Oh please……..Oh please. I don’t like him -why don’t YOU have respect for someone’s opinion other than YOUR own. Don’t tell me that why I don’t like Sweeney – thank you very much.

  59. S.A.--The sun will come out tomorrow; I'm down with the OPPC June 8th, 2009 at 12:02 am

    I like Sweeney.

Francesa looked like an oompa loompa

Maybe he’s being interviewed by Peter Gammons later…

  61. Betsy June 8th, 2009 at 12:03 am

Fine- I don’t care if people disagree with me, I just don’t want someone to take an attitude and tell me why I need to agree with him.

  62. m June 8th, 2009 at 12:06 am

    Okay, just watched the video.

Wrong for not signing the kid’s autograph, but lots of guys don’t when they’re out so I can’t get on him for that.

But the swearing? Ooo la la! And with an accent! Such a dirty guy.

As for the kid’s precious ears? maybe he needs to go to group therapy with the kid Shelly Duncan signed a ball for.

Did Kobe just drop an s-bomb on espnews?

Lakers dodged a bullet tonight. That was one heck of a play call at the end of regulation. Can’t believe they missed the layup.

  66. Oh please. June 8th, 2009 at 12:09 am

Honestly Betsy, you kind of disagree with everyone and read player and beat writer quotes like one reads Shakespeare. I have no attitude toward you. You’re a whiner, but I think you’re a nice whiner and you love your team. That’s good enough for me.

yes. He joins the Eckersley club.

  70. m June 8th, 2009 at 12:15 am

    DT,

The pass was too long, the angle was too difficult. Thank goodness!

    Pat M,

It was too close for comfort, but it’s still counts as a win.

Did they show Dwight’s goal tend? The one where he stuck his hand through the bottom of the net to push out Pau’s baseline dunk? How did the crowd react?

If Lee makes that play at the end of regulation, that goal tend would’ve loomed large.

  71. Matty June 8th, 2009 at 12:16 am

    Betsey -

I called you out because you wondered why Sweeney had a job and then lauded Waldman. NOT because you disagreed with Sweeney.

When quite honestly, it should be the other way around. Waldman was good as a beat reporter but awful as a color commentator for Yankee games.

Sweeney has worked his way up through the ranks and is deserving of his spot.

I can think of multiple people who would work better in the booth. Kim Jones, for one. I would LOVE to hear Chris Carlin as Sterling’s partner, only because it would knock Sterling on his butt.

There are so many better options than Waldman in the booth. But no one sees it.

Waldman cried – CRIED!!!! on air at least 2 or 3 times when the Yankees were eliminated. That is the pinnacle of being non-professional.

  72. DT - OPPC member (it's in our blood) June 8th, 2009 at 12:20 am

  73. Matty June 8th, 2009 at 12:21 am

    A little something…

I love listening to baseball on the radio. One of my favorite radio memories is listening to game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. Charley Steiner and Sterling were magic in that game.

But sterling has turned into a parody of himself, where he just wants to get his catchphrases out. And it’s SUCKS that he has a catchphrase for every single player. Tex, Swish, and Damon DO NOT NEED catchphrases. Even the whole A-bomb from A-rod thing is awful.

Melk man delivers? Fine. Robbie Cano, don’t you know? Not a problem. El Capitan? Perfect.

    “Swishalicious”? Are you KIDDING me?

I also love how the players in the Yes booth call out Kay when he’s being stupid, but that’s another story.

  74. Pat M June 8th, 2009 at 12:22 am

    m. I was seting near the base line wher ethey called the ball off of Kobe’s leg on a blocked shot…It never touched Kobe……Old Jack was animated across the court as he laid into the ref on a bs call…..

  75. m June 8th, 2009 at 12:23 am

    Waldman I don’t mind. Sterling’s a joke, though.

Even Kay killed me yesterday with a call yesterday. Jeter’s almost homerun late in the game?

  76. Betsy June 8th, 2009 at 12:24 am

Oh Please…….(sounds funny saying that), LOL – I do take those guys a bit seriously even though I hate doing that – I can’t help myself.

Matty – I don’t have an opinion on Suzyn as a color commentator because I almost never listen to the radio. I loved her as a beat reporter – she always got such great info from the clubhouse. I honestly don’t know Sweeney’s resume – for me, it just seemed he popped up out of nowhere. I don’t “not like” Sweeney because I don’t always agree with his opinions – I really just don’t think he does that great a job. Different strokes for different folks.

  77. DT - OPPC member (it's in our blood) June 8th, 2009 at 12:25 am

If Suzyn Waldman took the time to call out Sterling every time he screws up…
(the 15th word of my post is brought to you by Geico)
…… there would be no time for all the stupid in game commercials.

  78. Betsy June 8th, 2009 at 12:27 am

Kim Jones does a good job and I love her blog……Chris Carlin? Don’t like. When he was on WFAN, it was painful listening, so I just shut him off. Sterling I have fun with, BUT he is starting to piss me off with his missed calls. I get excited when he calls what appears to be a HR or a hit (for the Yanks, of course) and when it ends up being an out, it’s a giant let down.

I miss Scooter, White and Messer on ch 11, with the Yanekes logo and the great Yankees theme song…..

  79. m June 8th, 2009 at 12:28 am

    Pat M,

Yes, they kept showing that. Really took me back to “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.

Did you see Jack’s daughter? (yes, that’s his daughter) Uncanny.

  80. Giuseppe Franco June 8th, 2009 at 12:28 am

Sweeny Murti does a good job. He’s one of the better Yankee beatwriters out there.

I have a hard time understand how one prefers Suzyn Waldman over anybody.

She’s the one who must have incriminating photos of George Steinbrenner because she goes to sucking from one job to another every few years.

Waldman has had just about every job in the Yankee organization and has sucked terribly at every one of them.

  81. Betsy June 8th, 2009 at 12:28 am

Kay and Sterling had great chemistry…….I loved them

  82. Betsy June 8th, 2009 at 12:30 am

I couldn’t disagree more about Suzyn – at least as a beat reporter; I think she did a fantastic job. What does Sweeeny do that’s so impressive? I guess one could say that about any beat reporter, I suppose.

  83. m June 8th, 2009 at 12:31 am

Who’s this Gordon guy? His one post-game interview on the field was better than anything I’ve seen from Kim.

  84. Betsy June 8th, 2009 at 12:34 am

Probably Gordon Daimler – he used to be on 1050 ESPN radio. I think he did one post-game last week – didn’t love him, I thought he was awkward

  85. Giuseppe Franco June 8th, 2009 at 12:37 am

I couldn’t disagree more about Suzyn – at least as a beat reporter; I think she did a fantastic job. What does Sweeeny do that’s so impressive? I guess one could say that about any beat reporter, I suppose.

    ————-

Sweeny actually knows what he’s talking about 99.9% of the time. That doesn’t mean I agree with everything he says, but he does have sound logic and reasoning behind his opinions most of the time.

Waldman hardly knows what she’s talking about .01% of the time.

Frankly, and this may upset the opposite gender, but I really believe the only reason she still has a job is because she’s a woman and she’s been in the organization for a long time.

It’s certainly not because of her stellar work because she’s terrible at everything she does.

  86. Distd June 8th, 2009 at 12:44 am

Sweeney’s job is to be a beat writer, not a cheerleader for the team

  87. Brandon.. "Jus get 'em out" June 8th, 2009 at 12:44 am

“Probably Gordon Daimler – he used to be on 1050 ESPN radio. I think he did one post-game last week – didn’t love him, I thought he was awkward”

He was the cure for overnight radio, srsly, he knew his HW w/ players, brought guys like Nardi Contreras and Baseball Prospectus scouts and even Patrick Teale on his show, no one knows sports in the overnight like him, and he mixed it w/ so much humor, YES landed a gem, that guy excels at anything w/ sports interviews or commentary.

  88. Evan June 8th, 2009 at 12:45 am

Yeah, because it is so outrageous to suggest that we need to win a series from our rival.

We are 0-5 against them. This is a statement series. Girardi wouldn’t have pushed AJ back to a weeks rest and re-shuffle the rotation if he felt otherwise.

  89. Brandon.. "Jus get 'em out" June 8th, 2009 at 12:46 am

Put it like this if he were on SNY common sense would hit that network, he could take over for Sweeney right now and prbly do a better job.

  90. Y26 June 8th, 2009 at 12:46 am

Gordon Damer was the best on the radio. Don’t know why they got rid of him.

  91. Dr. Cox June 8th, 2009 at 12:47 am

Is there a thread or a discussion on how could Aceves has been??

This guy has been incredible. Does anyone have his stats, refs, etc, etc??

  92. Brandon.. "Jus get 'em out" June 8th, 2009 at 12:47 am

*By scoring 3 runs in the eighth to take the lead and eventually win against Tampa, the Yankees picked up their 5th win of the season after trailing at the start of the 8th inning. That’s already more wins in that scenario than in all of 2008, when the Yankees went 4-59 when losing entering the 8th.*

    ThanksN omass

  93. Ball 4 June 8th, 2009 at 12:47 am

Don’t have a problem with Sweeney

He works hard and does a good job. Certainly not easy dealing with King Francessa every day. He never backs down from him.

  94. AZ Four June 8th, 2009 at 12:48 am

Damer and Kellerman need to start some kind of show on YES.

  95. Brandon.. "Jus get 'em out" June 8th, 2009 at 12:48 am

“Gordon Damer was the best on the radio. Don’t know why they got rid of him.”

IDK either. He did way better than WFAN in his debut season for ESPN1050 overnights.

  96. m June 8th, 2009 at 12:48 am

    pat,

Just saw this in the mlb recap. Was germaine to what we were talking about earler.

“But the Rays bullpen could not hold the lead long enough. Grant Balfour started the eighth by inducing Derek Jeter to fly out, but Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira hit consecutive singles and Alex Rodriguez walked to load the bases.

Rays manager Joe Maddon brought in J.P. Howell, who walked Robinson Cano to force in the first run. It set up perhaps the turning point of the inning, when Jorge Posada hit a weak grounder toward third that Willy Aybar booted for an error.”

I though Cano’s walk was huge because he hardly walks. And Howell had every incentive to not walk him, because it would, well, force in a run. It was just passing the baton to the next guy when he could’ve easily swung early in the count as he is wont to do. Not downplaying Alex’s walk, and maddon surely is a better mind than me. But if maddon knew how precious Cano’s walks are to a Yankee fan, maybe he’d change his mind!

“He works hard and does a good job. Certainly not easy dealing with King Francessa every day. He never backs down from him.”

Then Sweeney should be his partner and have Gordon do the day to day team reports.

  98. Sevendust June 8th, 2009 at 12:50 am

Girardi feels it is a big series, otherwise he would have kept the rotation intact, not flip flopped Andy and Burnett, especially since Burnett will have 2 extra days rest.

Francona feels otherwise. He has Penny going in the final game vs. CC, despite the fact that Lester is also on normal rest.

Not that it matters, but it isin’t the normal, meaningless series some people are making it out to be.

  99. Frankie D June 8th, 2009 at 12:51 am

Does it bother anyone that Phil Hughes hasn’t pitched in a game for over 7 days? There’s no way he can be thrust into any kind of close game at this point with the risk of him being rusty.

“I though Cano’s walk was huge because he hardly walks”

Last yr. he swings at that first pitch, the first pitch was the whole AB, just amazed at the improvement this kid is doing w/ his ABs this yr.

  101. R+ June 8th, 2009 at 12:52 am

YES is wasting Damer as the back up analyst/studio host.

He is more talented than anyone else on the station. Give him a larger role.

  102. m June 8th, 2009 at 12:53 am

    Frankie,

I think Yuse will be wingman for Andy tomorrow.

Let’s hope that Girardi has the sense to know when Andy’s in trouble.

    pat,

Just saw this in the mlb recap. Was ***germaine*** to what we were talking about earler.

“But the Rays bullpen could not hold the lead long enough. Grant Balfour started the eighth by inducing Derek Jeter to fly out, but Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira hit consecutive singles and Alex Rodriguez walked to load the bases.

    ————————————————————

“The damned Germans didn’t have anything to do with iy.”

  104. Betsy June 8th, 2009 at 12:55 am

Frankie, I ranted about that several times earlier this evening, lol – don’t get me started again.

I want to win 2/3 as well, but I’m not going to freak out and proclaim the season over if they don’t. For what it’s worth, I think Girardi made a mistake switching the rotation. I don’t like AJ on 7 days rest – he should have pitched today.

  105. GreenBeret7 June 8th, 2009 at 12:56 am

    anything to do with ***it***

  106. Drain003 June 8th, 2009 at 12:57 am

AJ on 7 days rest >>>> Andy Pettitte

Joe trusts Burnett and wanted him to start this series, even though nobody else on the blog seems to trust him.

  107. Scott June 8th, 2009 at 1:01 am

CC’s problem wasn’t rust, He cruised to the first 4 innings. He gave up key hits to their worst players.

Burnett shouldn’t have a problem with the extra rest. Considering he has averaged like 112 pitches a start, it may be welcomed for him.

  108. m June 8th, 2009 at 1:04 am

I don’t know, maybe we’d prefer to see Andy in Fenway rather than NYS. Just kidding!

The Yankees have their reason for doing things, and they know best.

*except for the Wang panic move.

  109. Nick in SF June 8th, 2009 at 1:10 am

Joe Girardi has the wisdom of an Ancient Hellenic.

    Trust in him.

  110. Brandon.. "Jus get 'em out" June 8th, 2009 at 1:17 am

June 19th is a week away, if I’m Cashman sit w/ the Marlins GM and don’t let either Lindstrom or Nunez leave that park w/ the Marlins.

  111. Carl June 8th, 2009 at 2:37 am

Yankees to sign Carl Pavano when Andy Pettitte retires next year.

  112. Johnny D. June 8th, 2009 at 2:53 am

There’s only one sport worth following and it sure as heck ain’t tennis!

  113. Betsy June 8th, 2009 at 8:08 am

Drain, that’s true – AJ is very capable in Fenway. I barely trust Andy to get through 5 tonight…

  114. ANSKY June 8th, 2009 at 8:23 am

    Carl –

If that were ever to become true, which it won’t, then Pavano would of course blow out his rotator cuff before May.

  115. Dr. Cox June 8th, 2009 at 8:36 am

“Yankees to sign Carl Pavano when Andy Pettitte retires next year.”

    Pavano, is that you?!!?

Get over it buddy, you had your chance and you blew it. You could’ve been a great Yankee but instead you turned into a woman.

Actually I take that back, I dont mean to offend women by calling Carl Pavano one. He turned into a Duckbill Platypus.

Actually I take that back, I dont want to offend Duckbill Platypi…

Im gonna stop while im behind actually…its monday….

Question moron and the jock this morning said something about the Yankees/Mets game being moved to the espn game. Said “I think we got an email about it” they weren’t sure and of course they never had anyone check. I looked on the Yankees site and it still shows it as a 1pm game. I know espn already has a game listed. Can they change it?

  117. Mark in Tampa June 8th, 2009 at 8:59 am

The Yankees site has it listed as 8:05 ESPN, the Mets site still has it as 1:05/TBS, so I guess they have switched it to ESPN.

  118. Fran (the original) and OPPC member June 8th, 2009 at 9:00 am

I read in the paper that ESPN opted not to take the game and that it is still Sunday at 1. My program guide on YES has the game for 1PM

  119. Mark in Tampa June 8th, 2009 at 9:01 am

Oops, I was looking at the game later this month, which is already scheduled for ESPN. Maybe that’s what the radio guys were talking about. Since this weekend’s game is already nationally scheduled for TBS, I think they would keep it that way.

  120. jennifer June 8th, 2009 at 9:06 am

Mark- You made me think I was going nuts. Cause I checked it on the Yankees site before I posted this.

No they specifically said this Sunday’s game. But I guess the email was about a later game. They are idiots. I don’t know how they are radio hosts. They make a statement like that and probably sent a lot of people scrambling.

  121. Alex Rios' temper June 8th, 2009 at 9:17 am

Here’s the Youtube video of the Alex Rios incident.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt9hRCthV8E

Makes me wonder why the “stalker” guy in the background has such an interest in the kid getting the autograph – could it be that the two of them where working together? That’s a possibility isn’t it? I never had much respect for autograph seekers in general but also it seems to me that when an athlete signs for millions they are obliged to deal cordially with whatever MLB crawls out from under a rock, that’s the deal they sign with the devil.

  122. Alex Rios' temper June 8th, 2009 at 9:18 am

    I mean’t MLB fan

  123. Jake June 8th, 2009 at 9:47 am

    It’s True!!!

Derek is still a GOD among men!!!

And what matters is that sloppy come-back to atleast win their first against those Rays at new Yankee stadiuM!

We must win 2nite to pull some space between us and those miserable sox!

    Go Yanks!!

  124. SNZA June 8th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
