Labor Day doubleheader vs. Rays
This from the Yankees:
The New York Yankees today announced their game from Friday, June 5 vs. the Tampa Bay Rays – postponed due to inclement weather – has been rescheduled for Monday, September 7 at 7:05 p.m., as the second game of a day-night Labor Day doubleheader at Yankee Stadium.
In addition, the promotional item – a Yankee Stadium Figurine courtesy of Sports Authority – scheduled to be given away on June 5, will be distributed to the first 18,000 fans, age 21 and older, with tickets for the rescheduled game on Monday, September 7 at 7:05 p.m.
The Labor Day doubleheader will be the Yankees’ first on the holiday since they split two games on September 4, 1978 vs. Detroit at the original Yankee Stadium, winning the first game, 9-1, behind Ron Guidry’s 20th win of the season.
Fans holding paid tickets, purchased directly through the Yankees, www.yankees.com or Ticketmaster, for the June 5 postponed game may use them for the rescheduled game between the Yankees and Rays or exchange their paid tickets for any regular season game at Yankee Stadium within 12 months from June 5, 2009 (subject to availability).
Tickets for the postponed June 5 game will only be valid for the rescheduled 7:05 p.m. game on September 7, not the regularly scheduled 1:05 p.m. game.
Tickets can be exchanged at Yankee Stadium Advance Ticket Windows only (open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and until two (2) hours after the scheduled start time of any regularly scheduled home game).
Complimentary tickets (COMP) or equivalent tickets bear no cash value and cannot be exchanged or redeemed for any benefits that may be offered to ticket(s) with a dollar value. Fans holding complimentary tickets for June 5, 2009, must use their tickets for the rescheduled game on September 7 at 7:05 p.m.

Good. I didn’t want to lose another off day.
Easier to do the doubleheader after September 1st – more pitchers might be available due to the roster expansion.
Finally…they answered my question about the figurine.
Can’t wait for the soup bowl either…
Normally you don’t draft a 2B, because the better athelete is a SS who will convert to 2B. Also, some power OF will convert to 1B or 3B as long as they have the hands to play the position. Cathers and Pitchers and hitters are normally what is drafted. Positions are somewhat meaningless at the HS level and sometimes even in college. I believe the Yankees have a good idea of what they want. A stable of pitchers, some quality catchers that can hit and all the hitters they can find. A power hitter has more options with the Yankees with a DH than with NL teams.
A plus SS is extremely hard to find in a draft unless you have a top 5 pick. They go fast. A good glove and average to below are a dime a dozen. Some make it, but the Jeters and ARods that play short are hard to find. Perhaps there will be a Hanley in the Yankees future to solve the SS dilema when Jeter moves on. But for now, even Jeter is looking great at SS. I wonder if it had anything to do with being healthy versus injured the last couple of years?
There is something that feels very natural about a double header on Labor Day.
I have tickets the next night!
I wish they had a bobblehead night. No mascot, no bobbleheads…this team is NO fun!
So caller on with Kay pinning AJ’s performance on Posada catching?
Stultus-
Every year I manage to go either the day before or day after Yankee Snoopy night (this year will be no exception). I really want a Yankee Snoopy. I just can’t bring myself to buy one on ebay though
AHA! Pete’s naken anit-Arod bias is again exposed in all its nakedness!
The previous thread was praiseworthy of Arod’s work ethic.
Time elapsed between the posting of that thread and the next one?
Seven minutes!
Average time elapsed between the posting of a thread *critical* of Arod and the subsequent thread?
One hour and twelve minutes!
So Arod-critical threads are allowed to marinate in all their new glory for an average or well over an hour while a thread that praises Arod cannot stand alone for even ten minutes!
Draw your own conclusions.
(thanks to the Elias LoHud Bureau for the stats)
I want a Yankee Snoopy!
Are you feeling better Erica?
Didn’t know they had a Snoopy day. The best was the bronze statuettes that they gave out over a few years. I’ve got a bunch of them.
BTW, all you Torre bashers who said what is Torre going to do now that ManRam is out!! LOL! Well, I guess most of you bashers are still in the closet like Diet Coke waiting to use that line again. The Dodgers are 40-20 and in 1st place by 8½ games. And to top it off ManRam will be coming back soon. The Dodgers are very good and look like the class of the NL. I’d love to see a NYY/LAD world series. It would be great for baseball. But Manny would be scary in Yankee stadium.
Haha- Yankee Snoopy Day is Wednesday, Sept 9th. In true Erica tradition, I will be there the previous night. A Yankee Snoopy doll will be given to the first 18,000 fans.
I am feeling MUCH better thank you!

There is upside to all this. Let overachieving Boston be full of themselves now and when crunch time arrives they’ll wonder what happened.
It’s preferable for the Yankees to just hang around 1st place and have a few good spurts like they had during mid May and early June and not hit their real stride until late in the season.
Once the bullpen is in order, Nady is back, and Cashman deals for a missing piece, this Yankee season will show it’s true self.
At this point it’s like Week 5 of the NFL season.
Wait- it’s not just Yankee Snoopy. It’s Inaugural Season Yankee Snoopy!
I will be there on Soup Bowl night. Yankee Snoopy sounds so much cooler though
Nick – what is wrong with you?
Wang got a raw deal. I liked what I saw, overall, and would have liked to see him extended a little bit.
Anyone know how Garcia’s doing tonight?
Go Hughes!

Agree with most of this – except I can’t say I give a crap about Boston’s pysche. That’s sort of part of the syndrome nurtured by ESPN – that Boston is the primary mover and we have to calibrate and react. Really, I’m also sick of the taking of my own team’s emotional temperature.
Some comments on here about Girardi “admitting” what a “big” series this is; lol, he’s asked the question REPEATEDLY by these chimpanzees – what do you expect him to say?
If he says “nah,” he’ll be accused of being cavalier. Girardi really needs to get more credit for statecraft.
nice. I LOVE double headers on Memorial Day and Labor Day. If I was commish there would be several on each day
