The secret of A-Rod’s success … yams?

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Jun 11, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

According to this story, Jason Giambi now eats yams as part of his diet because he was influenced by A-Rod.

“A-Rod would always eat sweet potatoes before the game because it not only fuels you, but makes you kind of feel light,” The Big G said.

Kind of light? Meanwhile, Giambi is hiting .214 with a .385 slugging percentage. Maybe he should mix in a pizza.

    Yams never heard of that

  2. Swadehead June 11th, 2009 at 1:04 pm

I think by “yams”, he meant performance enhancing drugs.

Pete …sometimes you do make me laugh out loud. Thanks !!!

    Go Yankees 2009 !!!

  6. Trevor June 11th, 2009 at 1:06 pm

    Probably meant greenies….

  7. Bryan June 11th, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Oh so he researched yams but didn’t even look into what “boli” was

    riiiiiiiiiighttttttttt

    Start hitting!!!

  8. SteveB June 11th, 2009 at 1:08 pm

    I think Jason misunderstood A-Rod.
Maybe A-Rod said it makes him HIT LIGHT.
That would make sense for both of them.

  9. Andrew June 11th, 2009 at 1:09 pm

Sweet potatoes are delicious and surprisingly healthy, in fact healthier than the white potato.

Also, sweet potato fries have recently become a favorite of mine–done right, they are amazing.

Giambi, however, is probably beyond food helping his game. How little I miss the Giambino given how Teixeira has come on. He was entertaining while in NY, but it is nice to have a multi-dimensional first baseman for a change.

  10. Hokiehill June 11th, 2009 at 1:10 pm

    the Yambino!

  11. Hokiehill June 11th, 2009 at 1:11 pm

    good old Giyambi!

  12. ANSKY June 11th, 2009 at 1:12 pm

Based on the funk he’s in, A-Rod better start eatin’ his yams again soon.

  13. ANSKY June 11th, 2009 at 1:12 pm

Hokiehill – yer killin’ me! :D

Here goes Mike blaming Phil – he DID say Phil was going to stink in the pen, lol.

AJ throwing pies has a LOT to do with his struggles…..ok, lol. I wonder if Mike failed the English part of the SATs…because his analogies stink.

  17. Bryan June 11th, 2009 at 1:14 pm

Yup Okajima who was terrible last year

    Good one Mike

According to Mike you should construct bullpens first then the rest of the team

What an idiot.. how did their bullpen shine last night??

  18. sab June 11th, 2009 at 1:14 pm

thats probably why arod looked so orange in the gammons interview…

can we inject the yams in his rear so he can start hitting again?

  19. Fortune June 11th, 2009 at 1:15 pm

    Mike is right

Enough with the pies AJ, start winning some games. He has been the weakest link on the staff aside from Wang, who has been the worst pitcher in baseball.

  20. vb03 - Free Wang!!! June 11th, 2009 at 1:15 pm

Fatcessa is like a train wreck, awful but you still want to see it.

  21. Andrew June 11th, 2009 at 1:15 pm

Okajima owned the Yankees for the one year when he owned the entire league when he and Dice-K just came over from Japan. Since then the Yankees have handled him, with the exception of Damon who swings like he’s got dirt in his eyes against him.

  22. Brandon ----> Brandon 3 Cena 0 June 11th, 2009 at 1:15 pm

“What an idiot.. how did their bullpen shine last night??”

Beats me ? he sounds like an idiot again.

  23. Trevor June 11th, 2009 at 1:16 pm

Really blaming Hughes? Um how about Damon Arod Jeter combined 1-24 in the series.
    And Cano is 1-9.

  24. Mark June 11th, 2009 at 1:17 pm

When is the last time our pen blew a lead in the 8th inning?

  25. Matt June 11th, 2009 at 1:18 pm

The same Okajima who has a 5.66 ERA in 20.2 career innings against the Yankees with 3 blown saves? Wow…

  26. Emo June 11th, 2009 at 1:19 pm

    Yes, Francessa is terrible

Yet everyone here is reciting his every word, every day at 1:00 PM.

Mission accomplished – He riled you guys up.

  27. Bryan June 11th, 2009 at 1:19 pm

Someone should call him up and ask him about how great it would have been to have Joba available for the 8th the last two games

  28. Jon Ringland June 11th, 2009 at 1:20 pm

“There’s only so much a coach can do, if a player can’t execute (anymore), who’s to blame?”

EXACTLY. Jeter/Damon did not help themselves by swinging at those garbage pitches in the 8th last night…its not like Okajima was blowing sh*t right by them

  29. Trevor June 11th, 2009 at 1:20 pm

Francesa obviously doesn’t do his homework. He still thinks Hunter Jones is in the RS pen.

Remember when he wanted to trade Hughes for Abreu?

  31. Pablo June 11th, 2009 at 1:21 pm

I refuse to give the Sux credit

Our hitters just turn into pumpkins against the Sux. Swinging at balls out of the zone, first pitch swinging, no discipline, can’t buy a hit with RISP etc.

We hand these games to the Sux, they don’t win them. Once this team stops playing scared and starts executing, they will win these games.

  32. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Well, that game is over now. Tonight, the money is on the line. If CC gets bombed (and Mike is right), it’s a darn shame to this organization. There will be close to a billion dollar team on the field tonight against Boston, and I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t feel great about CC facing them tonight.

  33. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 1:22 pm

…refuse to give the Sux credit

Well then you’re the blinder wearing fanboy that Mike is talking about right now.

  34. nj yanks June 11th, 2009 at 1:22 pm

    I may be wrong

But isin’t “Huntah Jones” our equivalent of Claggett or someone… a fringe arm?

  35. Jon Ringland June 11th, 2009 at 1:23 pm

“and I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t feel great about CC facing them tonight.”

I think CC shows us all something tonight…he knows what he needs to do now. I don’t think he lets them go 8-0 on his watch.

  36. Gil L June 11th, 2009 at 1:25 pm

    pete WAY OFF base…

blaming eiland for wang’s performance? really??
let’s remember – wang was AWFUL in the playoffs under guidry, so mental toughness is definitely an issue with him.
rick ankiel was a great pitcher until he lost it mentally, it happens to pitchers. hell, knoblauch was a great 2b for MANY years, until he lost it mentally.
wang’s sample is not an insurance policy. there is a chance he lost it, and he can regain it of course, but putting it on eiland is a joke.

and then bringing veras as an example to build your case? please.

disclosure – i never liked wang because of his playoff meltdowns. however, i do hope he can figure it out and help our team. but we can’t pencil in a loss every five days for the rest of the season. who knows if hughes is the answer? maybe, maybe not. but – hughes was rocked by baltimore earlier this year, and came back to shut out texas, so at least we know he’s not fragile.

  37. Walter June 11th, 2009 at 1:25 pm

It is pretty pathetic that we spent all this money this winter, and it still hasn’t made us better than Boston.

All it did was elevate us above an injury plagued $40 million dollar Tampa team. Yeah, we’ll probably make the playoffs, but it doesn’t look like it will be a long stay.

We couldn’t even beat the best team in the NL (Philly), let alone the best in the AL.

Jeter will never get blame. Jeter is god.

think CC shows us all something tonight…he knows what he needs to do now. I don’t think he lets them go 8-0 on his watch.

I hope so, but I think it’s wishful thinking. Boston is going to make him be in the strike zone, and they’re not going to chase those sliders down and away. He’s never handled that lineup, and I don’t expect that to start tonight – especially in that park.

  40. TLD356 June 11th, 2009 at 1:27 pm

    Francessa is right

If we can’t win a Sabathia-Penny matchup, when can we win?

Our ace against a guy with a 6 ERA who Boston can’t wait to get rid of.

  41. Ed June 11th, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Does anyone have A-Rod’s stats when someone other than Cano is hitting behind him?

  44. Andrew June 11th, 2009 at 1:28 pm

“and I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t feel great about CC facing them tonight.”

Oh please, you and honestly a number of fans in general, need to suck it up with this overwhelming sense of doom about every match-up between the Yankees and the Sawks. Post-2004 the fanbase has been a complete joke in terms of being mortified and amazed by everything that Boston does, and assuming that the Yankees are constantly playing catch-up and looking at a stacked deck against them. Guess what, this year the two teams are even in the standings, and will most likely remain that way for most of the year. Because the Yankees haven’t won in 7 tries thus far against them does not mean that they are a bad team.

It also does not mean that the Sox are in the Yankees’ heads and they are psyched out and just compeltely out-classed, with no confidence in their own abilities. That is a perception created and perpetuated SOLELY by Yankees fans and talk show morons like Mike Francesa who want to build the “woe-is-us, we can’t beat Boston :( ” whines up to a boiling point. Even if they lose tonight, big whooping deal, 2 games back on June 11.

If you can’t tell that this is a good to potentially great team that the Yankees put out every night, and that they have a legitimate chance to win every single game they play, then forget you. Furthermore, if you are going to think that all they accomplish for the rest of the year is for naught unless they have a sterling regular season W-L record against the Sox, pssh on that.

Derek Jeter—the guys got an edge!

  46. Soul June 11th, 2009 at 1:29 pm

It shouldn’t even matter if CC has a mediocre performance

We are facing Penny, who is terrible. The rest of the league has destroyed him, why can’t we?

Time for this offense to make a statement.

  47. Steve B June 11th, 2009 at 1:30 pm

“He’s never handled that lineup, and I don’t expect that to start tonight – especially in that park.”

His numbers vs. Boston are pretty good….especially in that park.

  48. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Hey Andrew, I’m not whining about anything, so keep your long winded wannabe psychoanalysis to yourself. I stated that fact that I do not feel great about CC tonight. Period. If you don’t agree, say so, but try to keep the blanket tossing generalizations to your own basement..thanks.

  49. Jon Ringland June 11th, 2009 at 1:31 pm

“He’s never handled that lineup, and I don’t expect that to start tonight – especially in that park.”

CC is career 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA in three Fenway games…how was he “never handled” them?

  50. Andrew June 11th, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Yeah bro, unfortunately your nonsense about CC not being able to “handle” the Boston lineup is just wrong and just puts you under the same blanket as all the other whiners. And honestly, what other response are you expecting other then what you call “wannabe psychoanalysis” when your post just consists of you saying that you “have a feeling” CC is going to pitch like trash? What, did you want me to soothsay as expertly as you did there, genius?

Don’t bother watching the games if you want to make lame foreboding posts about a game that is 5 and a half hours away. You and a million other people like you can come out and whine all you want during the game threads, but otherwise you are just another baby on here complaining before anything even happens.

  51. Tank June 11th, 2009 at 1:34 pm

CC is 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA at Fenway Park in the regular season

Then again… Burnett had a 0.40 ERA at Fenway before joining the Yankees so you never know.

Whats the difference between a yam and a sweet potato???

  54. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 1:35 pm

That’s a good point, John. I didn’t realize that his ERA was so low. The only one I could remember is when they chased him from the playoffs, and another game he was bombed.

Hey man, if you feel good about it, more power to you, but I think we’ll be having a different conversation tomorrow. Just my opinion.

  55. Jon Ringland June 11th, 2009 at 1:36 pm

    Tank,

Stop punching holes in my logic :)

  56. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 1:36 pm

    That’s my point, Tank.

It would be nice if they played the games on paper, but they don’t, and this Red Sox team is a darn good team.

  57. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 1:38 pm

Andrew, what’s your problem, jacka$$? I simply stated an opinion, I’m sorry that you don’t agree with it.

  58. Jon Ringland June 11th, 2009 at 1:38 pm

“and this Red Sox team is a darn good team.”

So are we, and tonight we FINALLY get off the mat and sock them in their jaw. Come on folks, a little optimism here!!!

  59. raymagnetic June 11th, 2009 at 1:38 pm

Sweet Potatoes and Yams are 2 completely different things.

  60. Cora June 11th, 2009 at 1:39 pm

Shanahan – We all know CC is a bust in the playoffs.

In the regular season though, he has been very good. It’s not like he is facing a vintage Sox lineup with Manny and Ortiz before he fell off. This Sox lineup isin’t THAT good…. we just allow their scrubs like Nick Green to kill us.

  61. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 1:39 pm

And, I’ve never ever commented something negative during a game thread, but again, I fall under that blanket I guess.

    Moron.

  62. rmel June 11th, 2009 at 1:39 pm

with our luck its going to be a rain delay after the 3rd inning and CC will be taken out and we will lose the game 6-4

  63. ANSKY June 11th, 2009 at 1:40 pm

A Francesa show seems to be like a game thread or a Mike Lupica column … it drives people nuts with its inane inaneness, yet people still indulge in it.

If it’s like vb03 said ” … like a train wreck, awful but you still want to see it.” that effect still gets old doesn’t it?

Maybe that train wreck effect can give psychologists a clue to correcting the inherent flaw in humans which allowed why the reality show genre lasted so long.

Personally, I don’t see why so many would voluntarily subject themselves to listening to Francesa. Even worse … how can anyone do it every day? Constantly listening to such mindless mindlessness can only boost the value of the stocks of pharmaceutical companies that manufacture the medications for migraine headaches. Don’t be such self-torturing idiots.

Do you expect him to say something intelligent? Even if he eventually does, you’ll be standing there with a dumbfounded look on your face, not knowing what to do now that he’s finally done it. Sort of like look on Wile E. Coyote’s face at his greatest moment of triumph, in that one episode when he finally caught the road runner. It’s like … “OK, now what?”

  64. Steve B June 11th, 2009 at 1:41 pm

“Sweet Potatoes and Yams are 2 completely different things.”

Yams make you run faster, jump higher, and throw further than your garden variety sweet potato does.

  65. REZ June 11th, 2009 at 1:41 pm

Burnett just can’t handle the pressure of these big games. His command is crap and he has no idea where the ball is going. When he does throw strikes, it is right down the middle.

CC is much more composed than him. I expect a big performance tonight. Now, whether or not that leads to a victory is a question. Penny wouldn’t be the first terrible starter to shut us down. This offense is hitting .140 with RISP against the Sox this year.

  66. raymagnetic June 11th, 2009 at 1:43 pm

This is a Yam or as Spanish people call it a NAME.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yam_(vegetable)

Which is probably what A-Rod was referring to since he’s hispanic.

  67. Andrew June 11th, 2009 at 1:43 pm

Right, of course, and your opinion was so well based in fact and what not that it should have been completely free of criticism, and not labeled pre-emptive complaining. That makes sense, especially since you back-tracked so quickly once you had some stats presented to you. A real great job on that one all around.

  68. trisha - OPPC lifetime member June 11th, 2009 at 1:44 pm

You do know Brad Penny is pitching, right? I think I could take the mound for the Yankees and win tonight.

And to jump into this fray, I will post what I posted on the previous thread, in response to what someone else had posted. Always happy to annoy! :)

    **********************************

“I dont know if 0-7 should weigh on our mind as much as just being 1 GB… the 7 losses are gone… i will take a split of the reminder of the games right now…”

I definitely agree with that perspective. The past is the past and you can’t change it. Time only goes forward and people who dwell on the past are allowing the past to rent space in their minds – and to what purpose! Move the flip on, I say.

    :)

The really good thing about ball players is that they have the mentality that you need to look at the game in front of you and forget the rest. They obviously have to live that way or they’d be totally ineffective.

What matters is that the Yankees end up on top at the end. Apparently losses to Boston haven’t hampered them severely.

Here’s the good news though. If things follow their usual pattern, Boston will go into an immediate swoon after the Yankees leave and the Yankees will go on a tear! Perhaps worth it after all.

By the way, I don’t think that the Yankees will end up 0-18 against Boston this season. But I’d be lying if I said that it is occupying my mind in any fashion because it just isn’t. In fact, I don’t particulary care what happens with Boston because I don’t believe Boston will be there in the end. And this is coming from someone who typically would rather see Boston lose than the sun come up!

As always, I respect anyone’s right to disagree.

  69. Wow I want to beat them June 11th, 2009 at 1:44 pm

I’m listening to Mike Francessa and he is actually making some good points (I listen to Francessa a lot because I think he represents the pulse of the average uneduacted fan).

He’s right in that if the Yankees were 7 and 0 vs. the Sox we’d be bragging about how unbeatable we are. So? That doesn’t make it true.

It’s easy to say in hindsight that we looked “defeated” (we didn’t, but the truth is that we’re probably very evenly matched but we’ve hit a sort of wall against the Sox. It started off with a couple of unlucky losses and then kind of snowballed from there.

Forget this series. Pitching matchups did not go in our direction. CC will avoid the sweep and then we move on.

Who cares that we go to the west coast? What’s the difference? There are good teams on both halves of the continent and the bottom line is we could go 0 and 19 against them and still win the division.

  70. Boogie Down Bob June 11th, 2009 at 1:45 pm

God I want nothing more than for A-Rod to blast a home run over the Monster to shut up all the hypocrites at Fenway tonight.

I’m thinking a 3-run jack to start the game off.

  71. Wow I want to beat them June 11th, 2009 at 1:46 pm

A nice 20-0 win will shut everybody up for awhile.

I wanted one off Papeljackass last night. I’m also glad Pete called out the ridonkulous irony of Aryan Nation chanting “You took steroids” at A-Rod when their beloved Big Flabby is rockin an inexplicable .190 average.

    Okay, never mind.

  76. Steve B June 11th, 2009 at 1:52 pm

“A nice 20-0 win will shut everybody up for awhile.”

Not really. What I’d like to see is the Yankees win a tight game. Aside from the 7-0 game the other night, these have been tight games. Winnable games. Games good teams find a way to win more often than not. Winning blowouts is easy.

Be nice to see a tight game after the six with the Yankees asserting themselves late. They’ve done it plenty against lesser teams. Why not the Red Sox?

  77. rconn23 June 11th, 2009 at 1:52 pm

Love it when Francesa’s mindless minions clog up this blog.

Just a hint. When a radio host talks about a) Hunter Jones being an effective pitcher b) doesn’t realize that the Yankees has always had plans to make Joba a starting pitcher, or C) pines for mediocre talents like Bronson Arroyo, he probably has no idea what’s he’s talking about.

But then again, it’s like talking to the wind.

  78. Wow I want to beat them June 11th, 2009 at 1:52 pm

What Francessa is forgetting is that we scored 2 runs off their pen in what, four, five innings (can’t remember when Wakefiled went out). They scored 2 runs off our pen in 6 and 1/3.

  79. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 1:53 pm

Right, of course, and your opinion was so well based in fact…

Wait, I need to base an opinion on fact now? I can’t just have an opinion free of fact or difinitive data to support it? Hmph. That sucks. I make sure to adhere to the rules from now on, sir.

and what not that it should have been completely free of criticism, and not labeled pre-emptive complaining.

Preemptive complaining? When did I complain? I simply said that I don’t feel great about CC’s start tonight – you’re the one that needed to attach some kind of long winded babble to it, but I’ve read your crap before, and that’s what it is most of the time: crap.

That makes sense, especially since you back-tracked so quickly once you had some stats presented to you.

I didn’t backtrack. I simply agreed that I didn’t realize CC numbers were that good, but then I pulled the game logs, and I still don’t think he’ll do well. Wait, do I need facts to think that?

Listen, you just tell me what I should think, Andy. Let me know what’s okay to think about and what isn’t. Then, if I step out of line, you can crack down on the bridgjumping behavior all you want.

But, regardless of the fact that I think you just like to see yourself type then read it back to yourself thinking “I showed them” the whole time, I’ll play along.

I feel great about CC tonight. This Boston lineup sucks. He’s going to shut it down like an ace should, even though he’s never pitched well in big games he had to win.

Make sure you come back tomorrow and talk it over, Andy.

A real great job on that one all around.

Steve B, I want a tight win at HOME. At Fenway I wnt to embarrass them.

That idiot doesn’t realize that since 04′ during the regular season until this year Yanks and Sox have been practically equal.

  81. Wow I want to beat them June 11th, 2009 at 1:55 pm

CC has done GREAT in big games. Big games do not always mean playoff games.

  82. Jon Ringland June 11th, 2009 at 1:56 pm

“CC has done GREAT in big games. Big games do not always mean playoff games.”

I tend to agree, if he doesnt pitch like a hoss all of august and september last year (on 3 days rest, no less), the Brewers don’t make the playoffs.

  83. Wow I want to beat them June 11th, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Jon Ringland, that’s what I’m referring to.

  84. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 1:58 pm

that guy has a good point. I have no idea why they weren’t running on Wakefield last night. It’s inexcusable.

Oh, sorry: let me look up the stats to support my opinion that I think they should have been running.

  85. Jon Ringland June 11th, 2009 at 1:59 pm

“Jon Ringland, that’s what I’m referring to.”

Yup. Now lets hope he starts performing IN the playoffs in pinstripes :-D

  86. Erica June 11th, 2009 at 1:59 pm

    Thanks Trisha!

I make really good baked sweet potato fries at home sometimes!! It’s easy too-

You preheat the oven to 450 and meanwhile cut up a sweet potato into fry-like pieces. I toss the pieces in a Ziplock with some EVOO. Then spread the potato pieces on a baking sheet for like, 45 minutes. Put on some salt, and they are SO yummy

  87. Wow I want to beat them June 11th, 2009 at 2:00 pm

Bottom line is tonight if we win we’re tied for first place. All games before this point mean nothing, if we win we’re in first period.

  88. Jon Ringland June 11th, 2009 at 2:00 pm

Mike’s overdoing it with the Okajima thing. I can’t back this up, but Im pretty sure he HASN’T owned us.

  89. Wow I want to beat them June 11th, 2009 at 2:01 pm

Jon Ringland, I’ve always believed that the cream rises to the top. IF we make the playoffs (still an if) thna I think CC will do well.

  90. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 2:01 pm

“Yup. Now lets hope he starts performing IN the playoffs in pinstripes”

I agree completely. It’s a big start tonight, but I’d much rather he man-up against them in the playoffs. I wouldn’t be able to stomach him getting crushed in both (or either) in my office. haha. I really need him to win tonight to stop the insano jibbing I’ve endured thus far.

last Night, I had a huge “B” on my windshield from my buddies at work here. They used that white chalk stuff that used car dealers use.

  91. Wow I want to beat them June 11th, 2009 at 2:02 pm

    thna is than.

  92. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 2:02 pm

    sure he HASN’T owned us

No, he hasn’t. He has had some very good outings, and some very bad ones. He hasn’t been dominant or bad – just up and down.

  93. Jon Ringland June 11th, 2009 at 2:03 pm

“Jon Ringland, I’ve always believed that the cream rises to the top. IF we make the playoffs (still an if) thna I think CC will do well.”

I sure hope so. I want him to shut down that lineup tonight so bad I can barely express it. He’ll OWN big flabby tonight, too.

  94. Steve B June 11th, 2009 at 2:03 pm

“Jon Ringland, I’ve always believed that the cream rises to the top. IF we make the playoffs (still an if) thna I think CC will do well.”

He did last night. Kinda did in 2007 too. Last year the Yankees beat on him pretty good. He’s overstating it in a big way.

  95. Wow I want to beat them June 11th, 2009 at 2:04 pm

I hope the Sox are eliminated in the division round. I used to look forward to these games, now I’m always worried when we play them.

  96. Jon Ringland June 11th, 2009 at 2:05 pm

“last Night, I had a huge “B” on my windshield from my buddies at work here. They used that white chalk stuff that used car dealers use.”

I’d retort with a large print-out of the word “diversity” at one of their desks…that usually makes the Fenway faithfull a little uneasy :)

  97. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 2:10 pm

haha. Na, I’m not sinking to calling anyone racist. They’re a prety diverse team regardeless of what we like to think. I’ll take Jason Bay over Melky Cabrerra every day of the week and it has nothing to do with his color at all:)

  98. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 2:11 pm

Plus, before the season started, I went around and put copies of the Yankee ticket package options on their cars, so give and take I guess. I hated driving home though. haha.

  99. Vince June 11th, 2009 at 2:12 pm

    From previous Wang thread :

Neil Allen is currently the pitching coach for the Rays AA team, the Montgomery Biscuits.

Also, the Yankees should never have lost Gil Patterson to the Oakland A’s as their roving minor league pitching instructor. He’s outstanding and believe it or not, he was lost over money.

  100. Shanahan June 11th, 2009 at 2:12 pm

If they were Metro fans, then we’d have a diversity joke every single day. haha.

  101. Hokiehill June 11th, 2009 at 2:21 pm

I’d rather read the in game blog during a game when the Yankees are getting blown out then read the blow by blow of that idiot Francesca…if that idiot is the pulse of the “average Yankee fan” than I hate the average Yankee fan…I still love the Yankees though.

  102. tony June 11th, 2009 at 2:37 pm

I don’t know what is worse, the people that listen to Francesca or the ones that listen and post here what he says.

  103. sab June 11th, 2009 at 2:43 pm

hey if anyone wants to put the season so far in perspective chew on these numbers for awhile:

the dodgers, who are arguably the best team in the NL so far and one of the top 3 in the majors have ONLY 4 less loses than the yankees (yanks are 34-25, dodgers are 40-21) AND the dodgers have played 44 of their 61 games against the padres, giants, rockies, dbacks, nationals, astros, and marlins (going 30 and 14) –

so it ain’t that bad…plus the yankees are 1 game back of the redsox AND the redsox havn’t faced halladay, verlander, nor will they face hamels this weekend – we have(they have faced johan santana, and lost, but we will of course face him this weekend)

i’m a numbers kind of guy and the numbers will eventually even themselves out – so they will face halladay at least 2 or 3 times this year – they will face verlander in the 4 game series in auagust (hopefully) – they will face david price – a more stable david price – at least 2 or 3 more times this year – so the yankees will have their chances of gaining ground as long as they don’t go into a tailspin..

    keep the faith – 27 is coming….

Sweet potatoes are delicious and very good for you, I just had some this morning.

  105. YankeesLuv June 11th, 2009 at 5:44 pm

Sweet potatoes and yams are different but I think they are both good for you.
