In addition, that a man will be lucky after having a new baby is in fact an old saying “spoken” in Taiwanese (Southern Min). (the other part being that a man will be lucky right before his marriage). So technically, it’s not really “Chinese” culture in the narrow sense.

The mandatory military service is no longer for two years in Taiwan. I personally took the service five years ago and it was like 1 yr+8 months. I thikn it is now like 1 year or so and will soon become 4-month service. Eventually it will be none (when the government decide to use the mercenary system, instead of the current mandatory system).

CMW also had military service in Taiwan, but because he represented Taiwan in some high-level international games (like Summer Olympic, Asian Cup…), he was only required to do a 12-day service. Yes, only 12 days!
