A-Rod set to do “a fine job”

Peter Abraham
June
23

This comment from A-Rod should cheer you up:

“I’ve got to take it one day at time. I certainly don’t think it’s going to be a bad year. I think I’m going to do a lot of good things to help the team win. I have complete certainly I’m going to do a fine job.”

Well, complete certainty. You can’t ask for much more than that. As your his slump, maybe it’s October on the Kabbalah calendar. Somebody needs to check that out.

In other news: Wang will start Sunday. Hughes is being held back in case he’s needed on Friday. … Girardi said he would consider changing the lineup. … Yankees 5-8 against the NL and 15-16 in interleague games under Girardi. … Cody Ransom on his way from Scranton. No word yet on the corresponding move.

again lucky we still have tomko… no one takes more time to release a piece of crap then yankee management…

berroa and tonko are still on this team.

if damon can play tonnorrow sit mr swisher and play gardner. swisher needs to hit 8th he is a very frustrating player…he does not make enough contact to hit where it matters….

  6. Brandon WILL I AM 1 PEREZ HILTON 0 LOL !

    “Is Berroa finally gone?”

    No the DFA’d Alex.

    Who the hell cares !

And Pete helps to promote and fuel the BS on this blog by posting such crap like this.

    What’s A-Rod supposed to say?

“I just don’t think it’s going to be my year. This team doesn’t have a chance to turn it around.”

  9. Frank from Chatham

The new math is: Cody here = Berroa gone.

  10. John (now in FLA)

Melancon should at least be given a try over Bret Tomko. We know what Bret Tomko brings to the table. We have no clue about Mark.

  11. John

Should we harp on what Arod says when he is slumping or what we never hear from some of these “leaders” on this team to light a fire and kick some tail to motivate someone?

Those that want AROD DFA apparently didn’t watch the beginning of the year with his repacements. Gee, think it is bad watching this lineup hit??? What was it like then? 3 automatic outs every game in a row 7, 8 and 9.

  12. me

It isn’t Pete’s fault that Arod is an ineffective oaf.

  13. John (now in FLA)

If I could punch one person in their man parts it would br bret favre. Then I would tell him that no one cares about him anymore

John it’s a joke, but I’d bet Alex gets DFA’d before Berroa

Why does thinking that Girardi should be fired make a person anything other than reasonable and sagacious?

    ————–

Because it’s not going to happen. This is not the 1980s and The Boss doesn’t run this team anymore.

Besides, firing Girardi is not going to fix the problem. I’m more interested in fixing the problem than changing the window dressing.

  18. John (now in FLA)

Arod is more concerned about Kate Hudson and staying out til 6am with her

  19. Ryan

Pete isn’t making it hard to look for a new beat writer to follow.

  20. Betsy

Phil couldn’t pitch for another 2 or 3 games anyway coming off of 2 innings tonight….. If he has to go instead of CC, how many inning could he go? 4 or 5, if that?

basically when alex signed that contract it was like the yankees signing away the next 10 years of no more championships

  28. G. Love

I think the Girardi/Long hate is misplaced.

Folks, this team was pulling this offensive disappearing act under Torre.

Only difference was they were using the first two months of the season to pull their disappearing act.

Usually by this time, they were starting to hit on all cylinders.

What’s happening right now is tough to stomach as a fan. This team should be winning 2 of 3 regularly but watching this kind of uninspired hitting is just draining.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with people who come in and vent here.

This isn’t the Pollyanna Yankee Fan blog. It’s a Yankee blog.

They are playing terrible right now. If they continue this brand of play for another week the media will be calling for Joe’s head.

The problem is these players are a mess. I don’t particularly like the feast or famine offense this team plays with.

I’d rather see a more balanced team that didn’t have the apparent glass jaw this one does.

They’ll bounce back from this for sure, but with all these games they are giving away the 2nd half of the season will yet again be a sprint.

I just don’t know that some of the horses on this team are capable of the sprint anymore.

    But that’s what they do.

  30. John (now in FLA)

at least the rays lost, and the rangers are losing. Angels are winning though

  31. carl

Jeter you have been hitting into many double plays. It is deeper than that.

  32. John

In reality here’s what we got.

Joba vs. Kawakami – need a win and a good start

Andy vs. Lowe – tough game, but at least they know Lowe

CC vs. Pelfrey – Mets offense and Plefrey has been poor lately

Burnett vs. Redding – even the Yankees at their worst will punish Redding with their lefty bats.

Wang vs. Livian – Livian again should be crushed.

Matchup wise and I do realize they are playing awful, there is no excuse even as bad as they have been to win less than 3 of these games. Win 4 and it’s a start to getting back on track.

  33. TIME FOR #27

Why is cano still batting 5th? he never gets a hit with risp, and why did joe take out wang after 5 innings? he has no idea how this game goes… and why didnt mo pitch a inning today? he hasn’t pitched in years… and if we will have tomorrow a save situation he’ll blow it bec he’ll be rusty… and has joe forgoten that he has bruny in the bullpen? his one strong thing last year was the bullpen but this year he’s really messing it up… WAHHH…….. GIRARDI MUST GO!!! And one last thing if i may… posada chases sh** and throws sh**….

  34. John (now in FLA)

Yeah and Tex always has slows starts. This has been a problem with arod for 2 months now and he is really showing nothing to turn it around

  35. Mr Veeck

The Yankees have become predictable and boring. They are not even interesting anymore.

In other news, The red Sox pounded Lannon and the Nats tonight. The Yankees need to get to the level the Red Sox are at.

Yeah and Tex always has slows starts. This has been a problem with arod for 2 months now and he is really showing nothing to turn it around

    —————

He’s not going to bust out of it overnight by going 5-for-5 with 3 dingers after a couple of days off.

It doesn’t work that way. How long did it take Teixeira to get his mojo back once his wrist healed up?

  40. Rachel

“Hughes is being held back in case he’s needed on Friday”

That is absolutely ridiculous. He hasn’t started in 3 weeks, his arm isn’t built up to start a game. What is the most he can give them 50 pitches?

  41. John

TIME for #27. Can’t agree with you more on Robbie. I have been complaining about him batting 5th for a while now. It has pushed him back into his old bad habbits. He really looked like a new hitter to start the year, consistently taking some pitches, seeing what the pitcher had to offer. He is playing stickball out there, anything thrown he simply tries to hit unless it is well out of reach. When he was focusing on his pitches he looked like he might reach his potential.

  42. John

The way they are using Hughes will get his arm screwed up for sure. Why was relief to starter to relief etc such an issue for Joba, but not Hughes? I always believe Phil being injury prone was a joke, but I certainly wouldn’t put a kid in this spot. This season will take a huge turn for the worse and their future will too if they mess him up with this.

  43. Bronx Jeers

    What is worse?

    A. The Yanks losing 6 games in the standings in 2 weeks

    B. People complaining about the Yanks losing 6 games in the standings in 2 weeks.

    Hint: The answer is A.

How’s everyone doing? Enjoy the game?

Call me crazy, but I think Chien-ming Wang is the best 0-6 pitcher in baseball. Wang vs. Livan on Sunday Night Baseball should be riveting theater. The Innings Eater vs. the Diapers Changer.

In the meantime, I’m actually looking forward to the return of Cody Ranson. I think he will do a fine job. In fact, I have complete certainty.

  46. Betsy

It makes absolutely NO sense what they are doing with Phil. Friday is all of 3 days away……….and he just pitched two innings tonight. John, I agree with you – I hope they don’t go back and forth between starting and relieving with Phil.

  47. TIME FOR #27

And the sad thing is that wang is ganna get blamed for the loos…

  48. Optimus

Pistol Pete is on fire!!! Maybe ARod has been spending too much “quality time” with man-killer Kate Hudson to actually play well. Curse of ARod lives

ARod is the next prime candidate for Bill Simmons’ Ewing Theory. As soon as a teams “best” player leaves, the team becomes great. Also known as the Tiki Barber theory.

  49. yankeenate

I hope they turn it around quick….like the next two nights. I have tickets to the remaining series in Atlanta. Anyone else going to be there?

  50. NumberOnePositivePoster

The Red Sox play the Yankees and kill their spirit, just like the positive posters kill my rational spirit.

  51. Jack

Invite Kate Hudson to the outfield stand and than A-Rod will homer. :)

  52. Nick in SF

I wish I was going to be there, yankeenate. I recommend Daddy Dz BBQ while you’re in town. I prefer it to Fat Matt’s.

  53. Wang IS Taiwan

Arod is a complete dork. He really needs to keep his mouth shut. It does him no favors.

  54. m

I think Phil will be fine for 5 innings. He barely breaks a sweat going 2 as a reliever.

I don’t think we’ll see him though. But that’s good news because you need a healthy dose of Vitamin CC.

People need to stop freaking out about these pitchers.

  55. Boston Dave - OPPC

“As soon as a teams “best” player leaves, the team becomes great.”

    ——–

like when Jordan left to play baseball? Or after Larry Bird retired? I wonder how the Lakers would do if Kobe left.

Or maybe when Tom Brady went down last season? I’m sure the Colts will be fine after Peyton Manning. After Barry Sanders left, those Lions went on quite a tear.

If a theory works 4% of the time, it’s probably not very good. For every “Tiki Barber” situation, there are 1000 examples that didn’t quite work out.

bottom line: Yanks need ARod to pick it up and help get this thing turned around

  56. NumberOnePositivePoster

ARod is to saying something smart as Betsy is to controlling her irrational thought process.

  57. Jill

I don’t really know what else A-Rod is supposed to say. I think he’ll turn it around like he says. The whole team is in a massive slump right now so I don’t think you can just make him the scapegoat. This is still a team with the highest team OPS in the league and it looks like Wang is getting back to form.

Sorry, just trying to be positive. That’s still allowed here, isn’t it?

What could A-Rod have possibly said that wouldn’t have resulted in this type of response? No matter what the question is, Alex can never give the “right answer” to the media/critics. It’s really absurd. If Jeter was going through a slump and said this exact same thing, everyone would be praising his work ethic and upbeat positive attitude. And nobody should dare try and deny that.

  67. Giuseppe Franco

  69. BR

This team has not played well all season regardless of their record, so even if things do turn I would caution being to optimistic.

REASON WHY: The only difference with this offense between now and a few weeks ago when they were winning a ton of games is a few weeks ago the offense did not show up for the first 6 innings of the game. Now, the offense is not showing up for 9 innings.

Alex has an excuse. Ortiz, Vlad Guerrero (1 HR/10 RBI), Giambi, and all the other DH’s? Not so much. Pretty wacky season. Nobody’s really running away. Boston’s pulling away, but they weren’t so hot last season. Tampa was setting the pace.

When Wang was back to the rotation on June 4, Yankees are not Yankees. They totally have 7-10. At first, Yankees lead AL , but now they fall 5.0 behind Boston.

But when A-Rod was back in May, Yankees were like a monster. They could find different ways to win games. In May, Yankees did comeback win or walkoff win. They had longest winning streak from May 13 to May 21 and 1.5 biggest lead in AL .

A-Rod’s back brings Yankees good luck in May. However, what happened to Wang’s back in June? The same situation, but different chemistry.

  92. NumberOnePositivePoster

Jeter has been nothing but a great Yankee, where do you get this idea that it’s cool to dis Jeter? You can have A-Rod. I’ll take Jeter any day of the week. If you take away the baseball achievements, you’ll always end up with a better person than A-Rod.

    ————

Why do people feel that A-Rod is solely to blame when they lose?

Jeter, Posada, and Pettitte don’t have to share the blame because they won rings a decade ago.

A-Rod doesn’t get any credit when they win, but he’s solely to blame when they lose?

    Yeah, that makes sense.

    me,

And the reason the Red Sox were able to pound the awful Nats bullpen…..

Because they made Lannon throw 109 pitches in 6 and 1/3 innings.

On the other hand against the Yankees he threw 108 pitches in 8 1/3 innings.

And please no one bring up that he was dealing throwing strikes so how do expect the Yankees to take pitches and make him work.

Against the Yankees he threw 71 strikes. Against the Red Sox… 69 strikes.

Would some optimist defending the Yankees last week like to tell me again you can not make a pitcher work when he is throwing strikes, because the Red Sox sure did it tonight.

  111. m

    Dennis,

I heard about that. Oberto, Bowen, and another player? Bowen was the “Kobe stopper”. But I won’t miss him and his dirty defense of clipping the legs of players in mid-air.

I was shocked that Ainge tried to trade away Rondo! That sounded like a loopy trade. Though Stuckey & Hamilton are fine, fine players.

I’m not an NBA draft person, but if the Yankees don’t turn things around soon, I might have to dive into it.

The Arod bashing is really ridiculous. The reason the Yanks have not won a World Series since 2000 is because Cashman has consistently be incompetent at his job, not because of Arod.

If Arod is on those teams in the 90s, do you really think they do not win those championships if not one or two more?

Teams win World Series, not players regardless of how good they are or how much they are paid. The guy who should be criticized day in and day out is Brian Cashman, not Arod but we do not hear about him partying habits.

The one that worries me is Posada, he looked totally overmatched today and is hitting 200 for June. The others have various reasons but Posada has always been the offensive glue. I still think the launch pad at YS is a major cause for the general slump. I remember one game where they had six hits – four HRs, two singles. That is beyond abnormal. They started overswinging and wrecked their mechanics. I continue to be amazed at Swisher’s brain cramps in high leverage situations, unprofessional. This is a second generation baseball player. Today’s first pitch swing on a poor pitch was just painful. Looks like the Yankees got skanked for his contract. Damon is breaking down, It’s painful to watch Matsui, Melky is 200 for the month but his at bat approach is much improved from last year. The only positive is Gardner’s development, it’s too soon to tell but he has been putting some good swings on quality pitches. His swings and judgement have really improved, he’s thinking at the plate and it’s good to see.

This team didn’t win squat with Don Mattingly either. They didn’t make the postseason until his final season when they were pushing him out the door.

Is Mattingly the reason why the Yanks didn’t win the 1980s and early 1990s?

I guess so if A-Rod is the one most responsible for this team not winning since his arrival.

BTW, since when is what A-Rod had considered “major surgery”, is a heart transplant major surgery too? Both aren’t the same kind of “major”, as far as I’m concerned. A-Rod elected to have surgery, he came back, well mo-fo produce. If that’s the case then every ballplayer at some point or another has had major surgery. Can we stop with the A-Rod excuses already? A-Rod made Jeter ground into those DPs this week. A-Rod made Posada strike out four times tonight. He made Wang give up three runs in 5.0 IP and Robertson allow the solo shot in the 8th.

Girardi has to work with what he has.

You don’t need to tell Jeter that pulling a low outside slider will result in a DP as happened today. Jeter is the face of the franchise. He’s making 23 mil a year. Try managing that. These are the top paid professionals in the business. What do you say, “Please sir we need a doink to the right side to move up the runners”. The situation is absurd. Torre made his claim to fame managing, by getting out of the way. It worked for a while.

How can these professionals not know how to waste a pitch? How can they not zone pitches? Do they need Youkilis tutoring?

Other than Teix and Damon in the top six, quality at bats are few and far between, whatever the results. Down three they hit a HR, great result – bad at bat. Percentages are higher for a single and you need four runs to win.

I know his struggles reflect the Yankees’ struggles. I understand that. But posts like this really prove some impartiality on your part. When you get shut out, no one, 1 through 9, did their job.

I’m not apologizing for him at all. He’s been horrendous. But everyone deserves criticism. To pick on him in this manner (I know the contract and all the other stuff is why people do it) is just flat out unfair. What the hell else is the guy supposed to say? LMAO.I knew that 35 years of training would have it’s uses someday.

Do the Boston boards that you visit ever get like this anymore? Damned. It’s getting impossible to deal with, anymore.

    Carl,

Nobody criticizes Mo. Half the people don’t care about Andy. Nobody really cares if people talk about Jeter.

But Posada’s a different story. Don’t anyone dare criticize the real “captain”.

  196. ysp

so much love for the red sox on this board. Let’s all go buy houses with wheels on ‘em, wife beater t-shirts and four cases of schlitz.

You guys want to love on Boston and their fans, feel free. But don’t expect every Yankee fan to do so.

As far as I’m concerned, there aren’t enough bad things that can happen to Boston or their team, and I have no desire to see their idiot fans on a Yankees site.

  197. Boston Dave 2.0 - the kinder gentler version

“But Posada’s a different story. Don’t anyone dare criticize the real “captain”.”

    ———-

as long as it’s valid. I didn’t see Posada neglect to run to 1st earlier, but if he didn’t, he’s fair game to get knocked for that.

I think it would be more effective if people “question” some things rather than outright criticize, especially if the ‘evidence’ isn’t too sturdy.

On top of that, the season is 162 games. Short of Albert Pujols, every player stinks is up for a week or two here and there.

  198. Bo Knows

Posada is really looking bad, hope it’s temporary, maybe a hidden injury. He’s always had a good eye at the plate, not today. Catchers at his age – could be trouble. And in that case there’s nothing they can do considering his rep, ego and contract.

  199. AROD fan--newly OPPC

ok the team is playing like garbage and it would appear there are some internal issues, but i still can’t get worked up yet. I watched Francessa the other week when they were still winning, and he happily told some ecstatic guy, “yeah, but you know a slump is around the corner.” it sounded pessimistic at the time, but now it sounds so optimistic and level-headed.

the girardi usig poor judgement re: injuries is a serious concern, but aside from the injuries i think we’ll be ok. if a-rod heals properly and sticks to the re-hab plan, of course he’s goign to have a good year. what is the issue here?

ok, now that i’ve made no sense at all, i’m going to bed. good night everyone!

  200. ray (sox fan)

    ysp,

Against my better judgment I am going to respond to your last post.

You said “so much love for the Sox on this board.” If you had been on this blog for any time at all you would realize that people like Boston Dave and GB7 despise the Sox.

But that does not mean that they don’t like to engage in baseball discussion with fans from other teams. If you don’t care for someone’s perspective you are free not to read their posts.

Of course the point was that basically everybody has slumps. Posada looked good for a while. Now he’s slumping. The law of averages suggests he’ll hit again. I hope the law of injuries doesn’t come into play.

The bullpen still has some kinks, but if they’re still there in a month, Cashman will have a chance to iron them out with a trade or two.

As a Yankee fan – any fan of baseball respects the Sox as a franchise. An impressive display of baseball management in all the facets. For the first time in forever in some things the Yankees have to follow where the Sox lead if they wish to compete. You need at least two to create a rivalry. And at this point the Sox are much more efficiently run. The Yankees can’t buy the championship no mo.

  212. Giuseppe Franco

Boy, that A-Rod sure has a lot of nerve to tell the beatwriters that he thinks he’ll turn it around this season.

    —————–

Going out to dinner with his girlfriend is a felonious offense that illustrates he’s not concentrating on baseball?

Is this even an issue if Teixeira had gone out for dinner with his wife or Jeter had gone out with his girlfriend?

    What is wrong with people?

It’s not like the guy went to a strip joint with a carload of hookers and got into a bar fight which landed him in jail.

It’s amazing how there’s such a double standard here with A-Rod and everyone else on the team.

This is a guy who made news for simply going out and having lunch/dinner by himself at the local country club when he was rehabbing in Colorado.

  240. Joe

YOU PEOPLE SHOULD STOP KILLING AROD AND START BLAMING ALL THIS LOSSES ON JETER TOO. LAST FIVE GAMES HE HAS COME UP IN BIG SPOTS AND HAS DONE NOTHING BUT GROUNDED OUT INTO DP. LAST GAME AGAINST THE NATIONALS BASES LOADED IN THE 8TH, SATURDAY AGAINST THE MARLINS IN THE 8TH 2 ON NO OUTS IN THE OUT, ANOTHER DP. SUNDAY IN THE 7TH, SAME SITUATION SAME RESULT. YESTERDAY IN THE 6TH WITH MATSUI AND GARDER ON, AGAIN ANOTHER DP. YOU JUST CANNOT WIN WITH SO MANY DP’S. AROD IS NOT BATTING BUT AT LEAST HES NOT COSTING YOU GAMES.

The A-Rod headlines and controversy has been minimal this year. It’s all baseball related. Forget dinner with Kate, it’s no big deal.

Like I said, games don’t start at 9 am, if he’s out until 2:30 am, who but some stupid reporters care about it? Well, nobody should care about it, but I continue to be surprised.

  244. Doreen

I find it (very) mildly amusing that this team is having more trouble than it should with some NL teams, given that their manager was a “Manager of the Year” when he managed in said NL. :)

But, didn’t the Yankees also have trouble with the NL during Torre’s last season? Or is my memory getting foggy, each year melding into another??

Do they have games left with NL teams at home (YS), or are they done?

The way the Yankees are built this year, it does really hurt them to lose the DH when playing in NL parks – i.e., Matsui unable to play the field. And it really stinks that Damon is hurt NOW, meaning he can’t really play the field, or if he does, that he’s not playing even at his usual 90% (we know he hasn’t been 100% for a long time now, and I’m not knocking him – he gives 100% of his 90% at all times).

I was leaning toward the Yankees trying to retain Damon’s services for next season, but I’m backing away from that position. I still like him, and I’m sure he’ll be able to have some success going forward. But the Yankees can ill afford any more players who’s playing time is compromised by nagging injuries which affect the quality of play, when they play. He was signed to play CF, and he can’t play there anymore – but that was okay, because he slid easily into left last season and did a decent job defensively there, which was important because Matsui can no longer play there. But this season, he’s not getting to balls easily though the effort is still max. With Swisher playing right most nights due to Nady’s injury, the Yankees outfield is shaky most nights.

So next season, no Matsui and no Damon. I’ll be sad to see them gone because I respect their effort and what they’ve done. But going forward, they are no longer assets to the team. What remains to be seen is how the Yankees will fill those two holes. Will they go with Jackson? Will they try to trade Swisher and/or one of the two of Melky & Gardner? The outfield is a real unsettled area right now.

I think Girardi should juggle the lineup a bit. I almost don’t care in where he puts who, but just do something, even if it IS cosmetic. How could it possibly hurt?

Wang’s outing was encouraging yesterday. With some offense, he might have won – but he didn’t so you can’t dwell on that. However, the fact that he only threw 62 pitches in 5 innings is extremely good. If they weren’t playing in an NL park, he could have possibly given them 7 innings. 3-ish runs over 7 innings is vintage Wang, isn’t it? Let’s see next start where he takes it. I’m excited about that. If Wang is stable, then perhaps Hughes does not have to be “on reserve,” and can be used in different situations. I’m not going to root for someone else to go down so Hughes can start, but I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that he could sub for Joba every now and again, if Joba doesn’t stop being whatever it is he’s being right now. He’s not giving up a lot of runs, but his outings don’t leave you feeling very good, do they?

I do believe this slump will end. I am, though, very surprised it did not end after they beat up on Santana last week. Perhaps it was the “luck” of the schedule – having to go on the road to less-than-familiar parks facing less-than-familiar pitchers. It SHOULDN’T make a difference. But apparently, it did.

The last 2 and a half weeks have been extremely disappointing. I thought this year’s version of the team would escape these particular types of doldrums. I had stated that winning series was all that mattered, not winning streaks. But they stopped doing that. One by one all the positive things they were doing have slipped away – not being shut out, not losing when only giving up 3 runs or less – those kinds of things. Well, I think they’ve pretty much hit rock bottom, so now we find out if they have the resiliency to bounce back up.

  245. Doreen

** Winning series was all that matter TO ME, I should have said.

  246. The Stranger

My theory on Derek Jeter: after seeing how many balls get by him at SS, he figures he’ll just keep hitting balls there himself.

Eventually, he’ll luck into hitting one at a SS with his geriatric range.

  247. Hokiehill

“Didn’t A-Rod say something to the effect of he was going to concentrate on baseball this year after all of the steroid crap and the surgery? Doesn’t seem to be working.”

Because he said he would play better or because the media blew him being out on the town way out of proportion?

So far I haven’t heard ARod talk about anything other than baseball which is great…I imagin he’s not the only Yankee to go out and play a little late on a game night…I just imagine that he got spotted and is an easy headline.

ARod crap aside, I just want to know what a win looks like again. Not sure where the spark to light this team is going to come from but I doubt Ransom is the answer. Not sure that Nady is that spark either but lets hope so.

  248. Boogie Down

    Cody Ransom……now there’s a solution!! sigh.

That’s right, it is Youuuuuuse’s birthday today.
    Happy Birthday to him!

  254. SJ44

Blaming all of this on Arod is absolutely idiotic.

Nobody is hitting. Jeter is back to being a GIDP machine, Cano can’t hit with RISP, Posada has stuck out 8 times in the past week on balls in the dirt, Damon is hurt again, can’t hit, and can’t catch a routine flyball that cost him a game, and Nick Swisher doesn’t have a spot in the order where his weaknesses are exposed.

ALL of that is Arod’s fault too?

He should just shut it down, have the second operation, and call it a season. This way, he’s 100% next season.

David Ortiz hasn’t hit all year and the Red Sox find ways to win every night. This team dosen’t.

Why should Arod be the only guy taking heat for this futility? Last I checked, 24 other guys are in uniform.

If they can’t get it done, it doesn’t matter what Arod does because they won’t win with only 1 guy contributing.

  255. haiku-man

Agreed line up should be rearranged,Damon and Matsui’s contract shouldn’t be renewed.Yankees need to get younger.

If they make it to the WS,playing FUNDAMENTAL BASEBALL is a must with The NL. I say this because the Cards are hot now. If they happen to represent the NL,LaRussa is all about, small ball, and good old fashioned manufacturing of runs.

    Mo hasn’t been used in a week,puzzling.

Wang seems to be well on his way to his old self.Even though we lost, because of No run support.

5 games out in a matter of two weeks wow.

  256. Sox it to Me!

//Heck, even I want the Yanks to win some games and make this an entertaining race. Games won’t be much fun for Boston fans, either, if they don’t have any meaning until the playoffs start.//

Oh we’ll be allright! In fact I get happier and happier every day while the Sox keep winning and the Yanks keep losing!!!!!!

We’ll be just fine up in Boston if this keeps up. Don’t you go worring about us! :) 10 up on the Yanks by July 1st will make the 4th of July weekend just oh so much fun!

  257. The Committee

AROD will hit. He always put up numbers. Minimal spring training, coming off surgery, steroids story – what did you expect.

The Yanks, obviously, are a much better team than the last two weeks would indicate. Strong, deep starting staff, deep line up, and a questionable but improving pen.

Are they a great team? No.

Are they a very good team? Yes.

Can they win it all with this team? I think so.

I think they would improve their chances significantly if they had a credible manager.

  258. BillyBall

Can we all just agree that A-Rod is not a good fit and after this season we should do everything possible to lobby the Yankees to trade/dump him and eat some of the contract. I would trade him for David Wright straight up. Most Yankee fans think I’m nuts and most met fans wouldn’t want A-Rod.

For this season we should shop Melky and another minor league arm for a solid Right Fielder with a strong arm. Not looking for a superstar. Delmon Young’s stock is way down and he plays a decent right field but not sure he would be a fit for two reasons. His numbers are dreadful and his head may not be on right. But there has to be a decent right fielder that can fit into the mix and than we can put Swish on bench. Put Gardner and Austin Jackson in a platoon in a month or so from now. And platoon Damon and Nady in Left Field. Our outfield is awful defensively and is not producing offensively!

  259. BillyBall

    Thoughts?

If you package Melky and a solid arm in minors you can get back a quality non star 28ish Right Fielder. Lets put our demented heads together and think of who we can get back!
