This release from YES:

The YES Network, Cablevision Systems Corp. and MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet company of Major League Baseball, today announced a multi-year agreement that will allow customers who receive the YES Network by subscribing to Cablevision’s Family Cable (expanded basic) level of television service or above – and its Optimum Online high-speed Internet service – to purchase a package of YES’ New York Yankees game telecasts for live in-market online viewing. This agreement will make Yankees on YES live game streaming over broadband the only live in-market streaming product in professional sports to include games with local television rights.

Any eligible Cablevision customer who elects to purchase this package can watch YES’ Yankees telecasts live on his or her computer throughout the entire home broadcasting territory of the New York Yankees, or on laptops or other portable computers using Cablevision’s Optimum WiFi wireless Internet service.

The offering will enable Yankees fans who already watch YES on Cablevision to access a package of Yankees games with enhanced convenience and portability. In addition to the YES Network’s Yankees telecasts, Cablevision customers who also subscribe to the Cablevision broadband package will have the opportunity to receive unprecedented access to YES’ Yankees telecasts via broadband, including over Cablevision’s new
Optimum WiFi wireless Internet service.

The Yankees on YES live game streaming over broadband package, available for a one-time fee of $49.95 for the remainder of the season or $19.95 for any 30-day period, is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 8 at 8:00 p.m. (EDT) with the YES Network’s Yankees-Twins broadcast. All games will be delivered in true high definition, the highest quality live streaming as pioneered by MLBAM this year in its MLB.TV package.

Beginning immediately, eligible Cablevision subscribers can review FAQs for the product and begin purchasing the package on Yankees.com, YESNetwork.com and Optimum.net. Cablevision and MLBAM will implement and manage an authentication process ensuring that only those Cablevision customers who receive the YES Network as part of their cable service and also subscribe to Optimum Online will be able to subscribe to the package.

“We are delighted to partner in this collaborative effort to deliver greater access Yankees fans within their local market,” said Bob DuPuy, president and COO, Major League Baseball. “This agreement represents an important opportunity for Yankees fans to stay connected with their favorite team while providing them the portable flexibility to do so when they cannot be at the ballpark.”

“This is a landmark agreement in that it respects our partners’ core business models while enhancing their new business prospects,” said Tracy Dolgin, president and CEO, the YES Network. “At the same time, Yankees fans have more choices than ever before to follow the team, and there are no extra costs passed on to those who choose not to sign up for the package. Of course, Yankees fans can continue to watch the most storied franchise in sports on the YES Network.”

“This is an important and groundbreaking agreement among YES, Cablevision and MLBAM that greatly benefits Yankee fans,” said Hal Steinbrenner, managing general partner and co-chairman, New York Yankees. “This gives fans the flexibility to watch Yankees games on YES almost anywhere. It is an enormous step forward and I know our fans will jump on the opportunity.”

What, no snarky comment about how this is evidence that the Yankees suck, despite having the 5th best record in baseball?

  2. PruBelongs June 24th, 2009 at 11:45 am

Isn’t this service free for the Rangers games?

  3. A-List June 24th, 2009 at 11:46 am

The game was over and clearly we were not going to score yesterday… no reason for Posada to run out hard.

If it was a close game, then it is inexcusable to not run hard. But when we’re trailing by 3+ runs, then it is fine.

Sure CV owns the team but $50 isn’t worth it unless you spend a lot of time on Metro North platforms.

zell has some of the latest yankee staidum demolition photos:

The Yankees aren’t the first pro sports team to do this.

    Cont. on here…

“He said to Kim Jones he wants to be a Yankee. Now everyone wants him.”

Is that really it ? MY GOD, so I’m gonna waste Melancon or Dunn or Z-Mac for this guy (DEROSA)? yes I know he’s a tri-state born, but give a freaking break !

This is the bad equivalent of WWE pushing John Cena as the next big star. Or Britney Spears giving it up to K-Fed.

  8. PruBelongs June 24th, 2009 at 11:52 am

I was disappointed in Jorge but the ball didn’t get away from the catcher. I didn’t see an interview but I’m sure he felt he didn’t deserve to be on base anyway after the 4th K… not that it’s an excuse but understandable.

  9. Hokiehill June 24th, 2009 at 11:54 am

so you can watch the games on your laptop if you are within the YES network coverage area? what’s the point. just do mlb so you can watch the games everywhere…

  10. Brandon... "Farve 3, NFL FRUSTRATED RETIRE ALREADY FANS 0" June 24th, 2009 at 11:55 am

Billy Boy those pictures hurt. :(

Georgy needs to man up 4 K’s from him is just unacceptable.

  11. Hokiehill June 24th, 2009 at 11:55 am

enough with the Posada didn’t run out the dropped K pitch…at least 50% of players don’t run those out and those that do are not exactly running at 100%…baseball should just do away with the dropped 3rd strike rule anyway…this is a waste of conversation

  12. Hokiehill June 24th, 2009 at 11:56 am

now the 4 K’s was ridiculous…here’s hoping we’ve hit the bottom and can now start on the way back up

  13. PruBelongs June 24th, 2009 at 11:57 am

Blackout restrictions apply on MLB. Which means YES coverage area. You have to be connected to Optimum Wi-Fi if you’re away from home (where you are already paying for the game on TV anyway)… which as far as I know is not a wide coverage area. 880 AM is free and covers a wider area.

Cablevison and the Dolans still s*ck

  16. Hokiehill June 24th, 2009 at 12:14 pm

this is like me getting YES network with Verizon in Virginia, only to discover that they blackout the games…what other purpose would YES really serve?

    I wasn’t aware MLB gives away any trophies in June – whether it’s 1st, 2nd, or 5th.

  18. vb03 June 24th, 2009 at 12:18 pm

I’ve had this function for years now, it’s called a Slingbox.

  19. Premio June 24th, 2009 at 12:18 pm

5th best record with the 1st best roster.
5 games out and tie with Toronto (who has Halliday out and has a fraction of the talent the Yankees have on thier team)

Lets talk Arod. Any surgery takes time and the body needs time to get back to normal, being tired is always a lingering side effect to surgery, so I do not blame Arod that he is struggling right now. I blame Girardi, not because he was trying to play him everyday, but because he keeps him in the 4 spot. WHY put a guy in key RBI spot, why put a guy in a place in the lineup where you need production? Posada, Matsui etc can bat fourth, move Arod and let him contribute where he can. Why increase the guys pressure by batting 4th? It makes no sense strategically for the team, or mentally for Arod. bat him 2nd, put Swisher on the bench.
Girardi needs to take the hit for the fact that if they lose another game in Atlanta then they have lost another series to a team they are FAR and AWAY better than.
Give the job to Pena as interim and lets go for a playoff spot

“5th best?! wow- im really impressed! whats the 5th best record trophy look like?”

Ask the Phillies, they had the 5th best record last year. I hear they’re rather proud of that trophy.

  21. tony June 24th, 2009 at 12:21 pm

I look forward to Girardi being fired so everyone can piss and moan about the next manager.

  22. Philles?? June 24th, 2009 at 12:25 pm

Please……….do not compare the Philles to the NL of last year to the Yankees of the AL this year. Last years Phillies were NOT odds on favorites because they had the best team last year. The Philles were in the top 6 of the NL last year but they were not the best team in the NL.
The Yankees, sorry to say, have the best roster, best players except for maybe Boston who may match up better in the AL. The Yankees have no business being 5th best anywhere with the payroll, roster, etc. Its a joke, and I`m a Yankee fan. 5th best? no not this particular team as its currently constructed.
Which player on the Yankees is playing to his potential? Not many

  23. Girardi June 24th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

who is responsible? its his job to get the team to play for him.
Look across town, Manuel (and I`m no fan of his) is playing without Reyes, Delgado, Beltran, Ollie, Maine, etc and I know they have lost a few lately, they are hanging in. Despite not liking Manuel I have to say that he squeezes the most out of his roster. Cant deny it
Girardi??? huge difference. I do not want Manuel here, but look around.

  24. Wait till they come to OUR house AGAIN June 24th, 2009 at 12:30 pm

Girardi-”Hanging on”? He’s a terrible manager. How difficult is it to “hang on” w/the Phillies collapsing behind you?

At least the Yanks are in a playoff spot right now.

  25. Girardi June 24th, 2009 at 12:38 pm

I would say to be fair, that Manuel gets more out of the Mets than Girardi gets out of the Yanks

  26. Tom B June 24th, 2009 at 12:43 pm

fyi, inresponse to this… MLB.com has unblocked local Yankee games so if you have the mlb.tv package, there are no blackouts for you in NY anymore

  27. GC June 24th, 2009 at 12:59 pm

why would pay for this additional Cablevision “service” when you have HavaTV & Slingbox… both of which can stream your cablebox to your windows mobile phone & any computer worldwide (or in your house or wife) with no monthly surcharge. Plus the added benefit to manage your DVR. The HavaTV-HD boxes are well under $100.

  28. New York - Removed June 24th, 2009 at 1:33 pm

Once again (if I’m reading this correctly) the Yankees snub their Yankee fans removed from the New York area.

I have YES on FiOS, and minus the classic game re-airs, the channel is a joke. Eighty-percent of the time it’s Yankeeography for hours on end.

I’ve seen more Yankee games on my iPhone than YES.

  29. PruBelongs June 24th, 2009 at 1:39 pm

“5th best?! wow- im really impressed! whats the 5th best record trophy look like?”

This is a family friendly blog and I don’t think that should be posted here.

  30. SportsGeek June 24th, 2009 at 2:32 pm

Pete, Thanks for mentioning the service.

BBBUTTTT!!!! All you needed to do was mention it, and point us to the relevant websites and 800 numbers.

I guess I just didn’t like seeing such a long advertisement posing as a blog post, right there in the middle of your blog.

Let them pay for their advertising.. unless they want to offer their services for free.. remember when we could listen to games live over the net?

… just my opinion… (hopefully there are others who feel the same…)

so who does this benefit? people who can’t watch the games since they’re at work?
